Doug, I'd love to share pictures but I can't find the digital camera. We are still unpacking from our move and it's in a box somewhere! I'll take some shots when I find it.

Good Morning,

More BIG storm headed our way this a.m. so I need to keep moving, so far no hail here but lots of flooding just west of us. When we first moved out to the country I saw two turkey's glide over one of our hills and I couldn't believe the wing span, HUGE. It's almost more fun to watch them run, they can hit 35 mph. It's turkey season here right now so Chief you better be cautious about bringing up those southern feathers to the mid west[:)]

We used to have pheasants in the back yard where I grew up. They blended right in - hard to see. I've never seen a Wild Turkey - except in a bottle ;)

I found the magazine Railway Age on the shelves of DePaul's library. Had a brief item in the April issue that Mark Hemphill - former Trains editior and a real bright fellow I admire a lot - is going to run the Iraq railroad - or I guess consult with those Iraqis running the railroad - replacing a fellow from CSX who wrote a brief article in Trains a while ago. I wish him Godspeed and safety.

Yes, it's hard to get started working this morning. Got home late from teaching. Didn't get enough sleep.

Dr. John, I've always admired those Williams units - would you mind sharing from where you ordered them? Maybe I can convince some close family member to buy them for me for my birthday!

Doug, check out Ma & Pa Junction at mapajunction.com .

You can browse the whole inventory or simply do a search (click on the "conductor" button) for GM&O to find the set. His prices are well below retail and Marty is always very helpful. He's got some Williams items that are hard to find.

Well hello from beautiful Charleston, SC. Actually we are in a hotel in gritty N Charleston - not a vaction spot. Small rail yard and intermodal yard in back of the hotel - a Sheraton no less!

Some great food here in old downtown Charleston. The weather here has been absolutely beatiful - but I am stuck in meetings from 8 am until 6 or 8 pm each day. Then we drive downtown for dinner.

Nice place and is a good place to bring the Mrs. or significant other. Lots of great restaurants and shops and then there is the harbor area.

Will check in if I get another chance. Back to Dallas Friday night. Hope it is a better trip than getting here. Delta was 20 min late leaving DFW. Stuffing their employeeson the plane - then they had too much carry-on - so they started taking it off - one bag at a time! So the end result was we missed our flight to Charleston from Atlanta by 4 minutes. Would they wait? NO. So Delta vouchered us into a fleabag hotel in Atlanta and we got out the next morning. What jerks. No wonder they are struggling financially.

Oh well. Have a great day tomorrow all!

BTW - just caught up on some earlier posts:

Chief - if you come to DFW around July 14th, there is a chance we may be back in town. Not sure yet, but I will know by late June.

Regards,
Roy

Good Morning All,

NE Ohio is at 40 deg. You can guess the rest of the story.

Maybe we will send some of this south just because we can.

Got covered with ticks last night with BB, but she apparently didn't get any thanks to Advantix, so far, the only tic application that actually prevents them from sticking. We found a new rabbit hunting area with loads of rabbits. She ran for hours and I had to physically carry her away she was so so happy.

I've never seen as many rabbits anywhere except for in 1970 when I went railfanning at the Reading yard in Reading Pennsylvania.

They are moving all the soldiers and civilians who do the Army's homepage to Crystal City sometime this month. Looks like I'll be joining them and leaving my digs here at Pentagon, but doing same job. As a bonus, I'll be 20 seconds walk from CSX mainline!

Good morning!

S-Tom, looks like your cold weather is going to make it down to Dixie - it's going to be in the upper 30's tomorrow night and windy. And I'm supposed to play in a golf tournament Sat. AM. Couldn't you send the weather back north where it belongs?!?

Dave, I remember the Beagle I had when I was a kid would also run rabbits til he dropped from exhaustion. I guess it's a Beagle thing.

Have a good day everyone!

John,

I got a few Williams diesels from Ma and Pa. Marty's a great guy. A bit wacko, but pretty cool

Reg. the beagle rabbit thing, it's some kind of crazy turn on for those dogs. Even tho they rarely catch the rabbits they seem to enjoy the chase more than anything else

they aren't content being walked like normal dogs; they need to be hunting to be happy

Roy, should've taken the train ;(

A beautiful cold day here - back to 'normal' for spring. Supposed to go down to 30s - hope it doesn't kill all the flowers.

In the a.m. I have my annual physical and was planning on cutting grass in the afternoon, guess I'll have to do it today and run trains tomorrow afternoon.

Off to State PArks Advisory Board meeting [I'm chair]. Marty at MA & PA is great. LAZ bought two SD90's from me that came from there. Probably get my Santa Fe passenger cars from him when my F-3's ever come in from MTH. [?] Just got a CN caboose from a guy on OGR. Great caboose. Great price. Got to run. God bless all.

Roger,

That normal. Have to do some of the yard work and get ready for planting a garden. Once the hot weather sets in, then will be back inside with the AC on.

Eagles roost on dead trees. You can see him sitting there. Unfortunetly the image pixelates if I blow it up more. He has a 6 ft wingspan. They are really fun to look at. The other picture is sunset taken from a closed trail that runs up the side of the cliff. Both pictures taken last night or two. But in between that I recieved control pads for Marx signals from Robert Grossman. A happy experience. Also got catalogue, must read for Marx fans all kinds of parts and loads. www.trainpartsformarx.com

Cheers,

Chief, With that kind of a layover you have plenty of time for a "Cheese Coney" or maybe a Cincy Chili 4way. Skyline Chili has a place right there in the terminal foodcourt. YumYum !!!! [dinner] [dinner] [dinner]

Hello All: Temp. down in the 40F again, supposed to RAIN for three or four days. Rather than work on the basement I should build an ark. Got the central air in yesterday, finished up the central vac & security system, tomorrow I start to drywall. It will be nice to go back to work to rest. Does anyone know what the Chief does for BPS ?? Does he show people how to put a line on a pole ? or how to use a shooting Iron, or maybe how to roast grits & squirrel over the campfire ? Maybe a few others could elaborate on this one[;)] All have a safe weekend, All those travelling be safe, Kind regards to all Steve

Good morning. Off to Charlotte BPS. Steve, I do this for BPS, Cablea's and now Gander Mountain. For a couple of hundred $$$ plus, I tell you how to charge your boat batteries. [;)] You you have only one of two, maybe for around a hundred. Ask Buckeye. I told him. [:D] Weather is going to be messy so time is not wasted on this trip. SNOHIO for those Yankees. Cold, wet and miserable in Chicago - of course, I'm wearing a t-shirt and without an umbrella. Too much work to do today for a Friday... at least I have a job. Hope it clears before the first Little League game of the season tomorrow. Oh yeah, have to remember it's our anniversary today - and pick up a card and near-dead flowers at the gas station on the way home ;)
