Dr's report, no pneumonia [yet]. [:D] Town Board meeting went long. [:(] and now for the best part:
You Know You're From OHIO.....

1. You let your 14-year-old daughter smoke at the
dinner table in front of her kids.

2. The Blue Book value of your truck goes up and down
depending on how much gas is in it.

3. You've been married three times and still have the
same in-laws.

4. You think a woman who is "out of your league" bowls
on a different night.

5. You wonder how service stations keep their rest-rooms
so clean.

6. Someone in your family died right after saying,
"Hey, guys, watch this"

7. You think Dom Perignon is a Mafia leader.

8. Your wife's hairdo was once ruined by a ceiling fan.

9. Your junior prom offered day care.

10. You think the last words of the "Star-spangled
Banner" are "Gentlemen, start your engines."

11. You lit a match in the bathroom and your house
exploded right off its wheels.

12. The Halloween pumpkin on your porch has more teeth
than your spouse.

13. You have to go outside to get something from the
fridge.

14. One of your kids was born on a pool table.

15. You need one more hole punched in your card to get
a freebie at the House of Tattoos.

16. You can't get married to your sweetheart because
there's a law against it.

17. You think loading the dishwasher means getting your
wife drunk.

GOOD NIGHT and GOD BLESS.

Great comeback, Chief. Those Ohioans are sure a strange bunch.

****intermission note******

Today's Washington Post features an entire page of ferroequinarchaology. A teen girl, no less, has explored miles of PRR ROW remains near Bowie Maryland and has taken photos of old track parts, as well as nature scenes, such as sweetgums growing up on the old trackbed.

She researched the area and found that in 1961, a train derailed, killing 6 people. Passengers were on their way to the nearby races and the ones who could walk or hobble, made their way thru 2 miles of snow to the races.

Very interesting piece on a little known topic, even among railfans.

BTW, my old magazine, The Military Engineer, this month featured an article on computer radar tomography which is being used at Ft Steward to place new utility lines and to "see" what they might encounter under the ground.

The imagery spotted old railroad lines buried under the soil.

Mouth watering technology for use ferroequinarchaologists!

One of the benefit's of growing older and pre ordering is that you tend to foreget what you ordered unless it's a high $$$$$ item. Here's a couple of "refreshment" cars that will work right into our layout. I love the color of the popsicle car and how many of you remember the beer bear?

Enjoy--

Those reefers look pretty eye catching

Back to winter here this morning - back in the teens. Nice looking reefers - the popiscle matches the Microbus. I remember Hamms. Wouldn't mind one right now at 845 in the morning...
Roy, you got that French name right, Montewhatever. There's a poster of it in a shop nearby. Saw a weird sight a few days ago I forgot to mention on a run-through BNSF train when I was stopped by the crossing - it had a partially dismantled Pacific on a flatcar. It turns out to be a former FEC engine going to Colorado for (hopefully) reconditioning. It sure was a surprise. I also saw new-logo'd BNSF engines - they look like a semi truck.

Good morning all, hope everyone is doing well.

Chief, first and formost, glad health came out good. Way to go. Jokes were great especially #9. ROTFLMAO

Jon, Hamms made with sky blue waters, the bear, the little indian kid, awesome commercials. Love the popsicle car also, I have 1 in HO but haven't seen the O version before.

Add my 6 year old to your prayers, he goes into surgury tomorrow morning at 6:30 am. Adnoidectomy, and tubes in his ears. The doc said he can't hear out of right ear, but surgury should remove water that is causing problem.

Take care all,

Tim

Thanks Doug, his name is Trevor. He is the main reason I am into trains. He wanted a Thomas the train. I kinda went overboard and bought every part of HO Thomas available. Never saw the O gauge version until later. But he calls it breakable Thomas. He shows his friends and cousins the trains tells them not to touch as its breakable, and then runs it for them.

Thanks again

Really fun day yesterday--After years of good intentions, I finally joined the Gold Coast Rail Road Museum. I have been there numerous times over the years, but I was always hung up with committments to the CAP or Coast Guard Auxiliary. Since those organizations have joined the Department of Homeland Security, I can't do what I have been doing for the last ten years until they give me a National Security background check, and it is taking forever. So the Museum gets me. They had a "Day with Thomas" museum outing over the week end, and are having it again next week end, and were really happy to see me. The museum has a "Thomas" engine that is about half real life locomotive size and has real rolling eyes.

The museum only has one model guy, but the new director is real interested in expanding that, possibly forming a club. He said that some club from up east visited the museum, and he tried to get them to do a show there, but it didn't work out. He didn't remember right off who it was, and he was pretty busy with the detrius of Thomas, so I didn't push it.

Starting the second cup--for some reason, it's never as good as the first cup.

Skyray do you know of a website link to the Gold Coast Museum? - sounds like an interesting place. I had a nice railfan afternoon yesterday - ran into UP 9993 burbling resplendently right next to Main St. on my way home. Still was there on my way in this morning and a pack of N&W gons. Also, Metra 170 'The Village of Winnetka' put a plume of smoke into the sky last night that looked like an Alco as it pushed out of Crystal Lake...

Sure, DougM.

http://www.goldcoast-railroad.org

They have a couple of Pacifics, one in pretty good shape, and one being renovated. They give cab rides in a diesel, I'm ashamed to say that I don't know what kind, and they have a bunch of other stuff, including the Ferdinand Magellan, FDR's Pullman. Only been a member one day.

Good Afternoon all,

NE Ohio is cold at 20 deg and SNOW. And yes Chief, we are sending it south for that list of untruths you posted.

Tim – Hope this go well with the little one.

Doug – how lucky you were to see the UP 9993. Last night as I went by the Collinwood Yards in Cleveland, we saw an older Santa Fe (black in color) and I couldn’t get a good look, but it look like about 10 or more engines all together.

Pick of the Day

all be safe

Hello All: Still cold up here 18F & sunny, supposed to drop to 5F tonight, yesterday was 38F & rain, at least we didn't have to shovel it. Hopefully spring is around the corner looking forward for those Holland bulbs to break through. Tim: thoughts are with your little fellow & your family, they certainly like that Thomas stuff. Kind regards Steve

Tim,

Our family's prayers are with you and your son. Take care and good luck!

I miss the Hamm's bear. A friend that works for BNSF traffic gave me this tidbit. If you had a boxcar full of canned beer and you drank a 6-pack a day, it would take you 76 years to consume it. (hmmmm - it is after 12.....[;)]).

Have a great day all!
Roy

Tim--

You are in our prayers, know what you are going through. 24 years ago our oldest son had tubes, tonsils and adenoids done in one surgery. On the way home he was hearing things that just blew us away, he kept saying what is that? It was well worth the risk, take care.

Gold Coast Museum has a couple of Pacifics. Here is one of them with the boiler front off.

and looking into it at the front end of the fire tubes.

First time I had ever seen a locomotive with its cover off.

Tim, Best wishes for Trevor. [^]
Doug J, Show the new director the San Diego Model Railroad Museum web site, so he/she can see what a group of dedicated individuals can accomplish when given the oppourtunity. Better yet that sounds like a good excuse for a road trip. [:D]

Doug, I wonder if one of these Pacifics was the one I saw numbered 146 or 148 on that flatcar on the BNSF on its way to Colorado to get renovated - I heard it was an FEC machine.

Nope, they've got 153 which is a National Historic Site because was the last train out of Marathon pulling the "Rescue Train" before the 1935 hurricane. It also pulled President Coolidge's train to Miami in 1928. I think that is when he got shot, but I'm not sure. The other one is an FEC also, but it is Number 113. No numbers painted on it yet, but that's who it is.

My resolve weakened and I just ordered a second K-Line Mikado, C&O, to go with the B&O that I've had for about a year. Would have preferred a Hudson or a Berkshire but for the price I'll stick with the Mikado. The pull extremely well and the detail is great. [^]

WINDY HERE 40 MPH winds going to put some bricks in my pockets so I don't blow away. About 27 degrees here. With the wind cill probably in the single digits.

ROY what you say if you start at one end of that beer boxcar and I start at the other end and we drink. Will it take us 38 years to consume that much beer[:D][}:)][:O][;)][*^_^*][:-,][:-,][swg][yeah][:-^][tup]? Maybe less time? If you find that boxcar give me a yell I'll be there to give you a hand?

Laz, if you need bricks to hold that big Yankee body down, it must be a cat 5 hurricane. [:-^][:-^] Sure is truning colder here. Got two NS Beeps in the UPS today. Who knew how to get to the gears on those things????? Took one almost all apart and still could not get to the gears. Was going to lube them. Did get a drop of synthetic on each axle shaft. Later.

In case you missed it...

I ran mine for about 2 hours and noticed a slight "growl" emanating from the worm gears. How many of you expected the bottom cover plate to lift off when you removed those 8 phillips heads screws? HA! It won't. So here's what you do.

Remove the plastic shell.
Remove the single screw holding the circuit board in place
Lift the circuit board to one side and that will expose 3 screws down in the frame
Remove all three screws (the two on the end secure the pickup rollers. The middle one holds the cover plate you're trying to remove.)
Now the cover plate comes right off and you can lube the worm and drive gears with grease.
Reassemble in reverse order.

Mine is super quiet now and I shouldn't have to re-lube it for many more Christmas Holidays. At 12 volts indicated on my LW, it pulls steady and evenly @ 20 SMPH. It really slows down and stays smooth, almost like it has speed control.

The hardest part is removing the shell - just pry the sides away from the tabs, and pull the base free...like I say, easier said than done...but it's certainly doable...

And yes, those 8 phillips head screws must be removed...
Small Layouts are cool! Low post counts are even more cool! NO GRITS in my pot!!!

Doug, I know what you mean. I would like to order a second Mikado, but this time the B&O model. I have the C&O and it is a great engine. Not one complaint from me.

Tim, take care of Trevor and your family. Our thoughts are with you.

It is snowing out.

BTW, has anyone heard from Dr. John? I'm surprised he hasn't shown up again after his move.
