Had Eggs and Sausage with toast and OJ for breakfast this am. I'm home as I slipped getting things out of the truck last night and twisted my back a little I'll be fine just don't feel up to lugging those heavy carts today.

Morning all!

anjdevil2:  Hang in there.  Hopefully therapy will bring things around.  Sounds like it's not your idea that this is happening.

SJ:  Hope you're getting a BIG bunch of trains! (ur.... I mean refund)

Gearing up for football this Sunday!  I have some cooking to do.  Hot wings are a staple here!  Ham and Prime Rib also on tap.

Eggos sans sandy for breakfast with the girls this morning.

Having problems with Dockside switcher and post war cars.  Seems to be a geometry issue with the couplers.  Keeps pulling the PW wheels off the tracks.  No problem with the modern cars.  The 2338, works just fine with the PW cars.

Good Mornin, Ya'll,

The sun is out and it's a balmy 26.  Perfect weather for the insane drivers to actually see what they are hitting, unless they are busy on the cell or putting on their makeup.

Regarding the snow days, I can't understand why the students aren't picketing, demanding more classroom hours and the elimination of snow days, and standing in line early to get into the buildings.  If I had teachers and administrators like Laz and Mitch, that's what I'd be doing. They miss youse guyz, really.  Whistling

Some back in yesteryear drivel...... the private schools called off school when the heating plant went dead, it was -15, or the snowfall was 15+ inches.  That was about it.   The public schoolers meanwhile usually got the days off, wound up in school past the scheduled year end release dates.   Even though nuclear families were the norm and Mom was backup at home.  And they all got educated.

And I don't recall safety related incidents.  School busses were more of a luxury, so walking to school was the norm.  Opening delays were expected.  Early closings uncommon.  It boggles my mind when schools here were closed yesterday with just a 6 inch snowfall.  If we are living in this type of climate, don't we need to be a little flexible, adapt, and get on with it?  Snow is a fact of life.  Buffalo gets 2-3 times the amount of snow I do.  Do they take triple the time off with snow days?  I think not.  They adapt.

While I am sure we are all aware of the increased risk to the children when the weather is sub par, I don't see an increase in the younger kids staying indoors, a decrease in the high schoolers hitting the malls and hanging out, or the roads empty.  It appeared to me yesterday the the caregivers and kids were all out and about smack dab in the middle of the storm.

Those with younger children AND jobs are put in a precarious position with their employment, and this is probably the worst economic time to be calling in work and taking time off unexpectedly to cover the home front.  Customers don't care what your weather is, they just want their product or service.  Companies are running below lean, and still looking to jettison or swap out the less productive; and when time off is taken without advanced warning.......There won't be a lot of lattitude with the employees.

Hope everyone has power and heat and didn't succumb to the elements.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is 21 degrees. Ice over everything. Going up to 25 today with no more snow due. Roads are in terrible shape. Called the Ohio Highway Patrol, and they said to stay off of Interstate 77. Icy. Hmmmm........

Today is a busy day. Got the car started up and cleaned off. About a quarter of an inch of ice all over it. The woods look like someone painted it with white paint.

A good day to run trains.

Dining car was here and breakfast was as usual.

Y'all have a great Thursday.

Morning all. Guess i missed the forum antics by just puttering around the basement last night instead of logging on or watching Lost. Boxed up a visiting car to send on to Kurt.  Trying to configure the engine house tracks too. Anyway, it was a nice hour 'puttering' whilst listening to some obscure basketball game. No snow here - glad to have missed this one storm. Grey and cold though.

Good Morning,

Refund? of course, all we have is pension and interest earned. If I owed we would file on april 15. A good question I always liked to stump people with when they would talk about how much they were getting back is, ok but how much did you have to pay? Try it, most people don't know. they just know about their refund.

Way back when we had to walk to school uphill both ways in four feet of snow, we started school the day after labor day  and was out by the end of may. Now the schools run into the middle of june because of all the off days.

Overcast and about 15 degrees right now but no new snow yet.

sir james I

Good Morning,

........Way back when we had to walk to school uphill both ways in four feet of snow, we started school the day after labor day  and was out by the end of may. Now the schools run into the middle of june because of all the off days.

TTFN....S.J.

SJ.......many people don't realize that in the old days we did have to walk uphill both ways because the curvature of the Earth in relation to the Earth's position with the Sun changed during the school day.  And we had turned the Earth upside down during the school day with our less than perfect deportment.  Big Smile

Hope you are feeling less sore and drained than I do right now.  The snow and ice that I had to clear by hand last night before the temperatures dropped weighed about 10 pounds per shovelful. Multiply that times the number of shovelfuls, and you get about a zillion pounds moved by hand.  Thank the Lord for snowblowers.

Kurt......sounds like the chow you are serving for the Superbowl makes your place the best venue of choice.  I think Brutus should fire up the Tardis in the daytime hours, pick us all up, and deliver us to your place.  I vote he be elected the designated driver.  Maybe we should all bring trains to run on your layout during the breaks in the action.  And you should hang up a sign that says: "No Reb drawl or grits permitted."

I remember Grand Pop saying he went to school 5 miles each way, up hill, 15 ' snow drifts to 20' and holes in his shoes (kinda reminded me of Washinton in Valley Forge) and was happy to get to his one room school house for a free education, cold and wet.  Just to age my self, I'm 53 and heard this in the very early 70's!!

Therapy was NOT my idea, Kurt.  The wife sorta imposed it on us.  That's ok, buy me more time for an apartment or townhome.  either way, gives me more time.  It's all good.  God is working his magic and in time all will be revealed (and I'm not that religeous, just know a higher power helps!)

Still raining, though it has slowed down a bit.  up to 59 and it was 68 at 0500!!

See ya in a bit!

Afternoon!

Doug:  Can't wait!  Is that magazine we talked about in too?

Jack et al:  Everyone's welcome to tardis on over Sunday!  We always have more than enough!  If everyone brought their train to run we'd all be standing around looking at each other.  There wouldn't be any space to run on my layout.  It's that small.

Wes:  John Deere Car hooked up and pulled out this am, and is heading out on the south bound.  Check your e-mail for the waybill.

I gave you my copy of the article - can't find the mag. I think someone moved it when picking up the basement. Figure it'll show up this month and go along on the next car!

Came in for lunch. Installed a wall mount TV and VCR in the train bldg this morning. Ran the Mark 1 Video "Roarin' Runbys, Super Slips and Start-Ups" while running trains on the layout. Really adds to the running experience.

sir james - I have a pension as well, but no taxes are taken out, so I always owe money. Even before retirement, I had the least amount possible deducted. No sense letting the Gov't use my money interest free. You are right - most people feel if they get money back they aren't paying taxes.

Mornin' Folks.

For the "Super Sunday Grub" I usually try to fit a "munchies/food menu" around the teams playing. My first thought was Primanti Bros style sandwiches but wasn't sure about having to shampoo the entire house after the game. Clown Settling on a pot of chili with all the goodies so they can have chili  or nachos or chili dogs/burgers, maybe some Buffalo Shrimp and veggie appetizers then finish it off with pie & ice cream. Patrick, I let them take it out as the interest rates are so low, no big deal. and I just give it back when summer taxes are due. a revolving door.

A first for me - A pure train question post.

Where can I find O gage box cars 40' or less unpainted or painted with no numbers or lettering. I want to customize them with home made decals.

Thanks,

Good afternoon Y'all!  Well, I was right, was a long case.  Over now and I will be heading to the house in just a few.  Kind of tired.

Fife, No, they didn't have any jeeps.  I have one I had purchased there before, but none this time.  I did pick up two different German tanks.  I figure I can put them on some flat cars like they were war contraband heading for a museum.  At Ft. Benning, we have a National Infantry Museum that has quite an assortment of armament.

Rock, With regard to our earlier discussion, we are on the same page.  Too many lawyers muck up the works.  If they had a law of Looser Pays, you would see a lot less lawsuits and lower rates.  One of our Neuro guys had to leave because he was paying over $400,000.00 for malpractice insurance.  He had to arrange to work at a hospital as an employee so that the hospital's insurance would cover him.  We are now like that.

Regarding snow days.  When I was growing up in NJ, the only time school would be called off is if more than 50% of the teachers were not able to make it in.  Often, they would double up the classes if a particular teacher was not there.

As for teachers whining, yeah, they do it almost as much as doctors!

Well, it is relatively nice out.  Rained last night, but I think it is in the 70s now.  Having looked out the window, I don't see any snow yet.....Oh, that is right, we never get snow.

Rock, I would try either Weaver or Atlas for undecorated cars.  It may be cheaper to find a old scratched up box car and just remove decals and repaint.

The only thing with the Weaver cars is they tend to be a little light and you may have to add some weight. Even so they are pretty decent cars.

Thanks to RT, dougdagroump, cnw1995 and Dennis. Thumbs Up

I found the unpainted box cars. The problem was I didn't know they were called just "undercoated"Dunce. I found the Atlas O reefer for $60, and the Weaver box car for $45. RT thanks for the Weaver stock number. The Weaver box car is perfect, has flat areas for the decals. If the Weaver cars are a little light, we have plenty of rocks in this part of Virginia.Big Smile Finding scratched cars and redoing them is a good idea, since they need painted any way.

WELCOME TO RT'S BAKERY

Evening all hows it going. Got my Nascar Train set in this afternoon I still have the Jimmie Johnson boxcar coming and the Dale earnhardt jr Train set (after I pay for the jr it will come its on hold right now lol) But  that completes it as stated above.

Not to much happening feeling better this evening I was justa little stiff and sore this am so just took it easy today and soaked a couple of times. Feel fine now.

53 now was up to 58 today but dropping to 37 tonight not to bad I guess.

Wife already coming up with ways to use money from tax return's I agree acually its how much I over paid. when I was single I had it figured out about right to where I got back less than $5.00 each year from about 22 to 29 but then I got married and never really figured out how many I should claim durning the year to get close like that again.

Well will talk to you all later
