Patrick,

I am probably just as guilty as anyone else.  We all kind of live in our own little world.  I make comments everyday and probably 99% do not get a reply.  However, all of us here have been thru some dark times and that is where this place shines.  We support each other.  We have quirks and idiosyncracies that even the long timers do not fully understand.  We do have some people come and go on occasion, but the "regulars" do keep coming back.  Stay with us a while and you will hear stories that I guarantee will capture your attention.  You will hear stories about "my" soccer girls, and a certain Norwegian soccer friend of mine, and the "saucy wench", and Lucas and his adventures, and a passion for the Indy 500 and the IRL that is matched by very few.  You will also see few comments on any of those stories and that is ok as well. You will hear stories about "tidy-whities" and Corvairs and GRITS and Rebs and Yanks and Snohio and snow blowers and the Tardis and our children and grandchildren and in-laws and "outlaws" and movie making and matters of life and death and maybe, just maybe, a comment or two about toy trains.  All this awaits you and I would hate for you to miss it.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

To all on this thread:

I have come to the conclusion that this thread is a "click" of half a dozen people, and anyone outside the "click" is completely ignored. I haven't had a comment, positive or negative, over the last 10 posts. Sorry I invaded your territory. I particularly seem to have offended the "Chief", leader of this group.  Perhaps you should state you are not interested in outsiders contributing to your coffee pot forum. Or perhaps you should define the "Rules" for participating in your thread. No comments from Chief, fife, RT, or any of the rest of the regulars on my Animals on the Rails, "Trains and Locomotives" on RFD-TV, NASCAR, Etc.

The one thing I am appreciative of is the help from RT and others on finding unpainted rolling stock.

I need to find a more friendly forum thread. I expect you all will be happy to here this.

Thats strange ? I said the same thing about a year ago ....

  I mostly read now...

Please excuse an outsider's intrusion.....perhaps one of you gentlemen could make a personal overture, if you are inclined, by using a PM?  I think your responses so far are warm and inclusive, but if I were a frequenter of this thread, I would probably offer the gentleman a personal outreach and say it's just the nature of the thread at times....nothing personal...please stick around and enjoy the banter.

But, I like what you have said, and hopefully this person will cool off? Cool

Good Evening from Blueberryhill....

Cold outside. No snow today. 15 degrees. Sunny.

Patrick L.............I am glad that you joined us here. Sorry that I missed your post on " Animals on the Rails ". Did you post it as a thread, or on the Coffee Pot ??.  Anyway, I missed it. Would you post the item again ?  The business of everyday life, sometimes lets us miss the treasures of the day.

Y'all have a great evening.

Well said, Chuck!

TAXES are DONE!  I am full of pork tenderloin.  Think it's time for a Cold Frosty Adult Beverage and maybe go land on Laz's roof and turn the speakers up ALL THE WAY so he can hear us this time?  Laugh  Pat, you can drive, Mike has dibs though, he was on the roster first!  I'll grab Doug Murphy on the way - we were talking earlier (another fine gentleman on the coffee pot) and also RT is making some cake, I can smell it from here (talked to him today too - another f. g. on the c. p. as you can see).

At the LHS today I found out they don't know when the John Bull will arrive, but he said it will be the day after I have given up all hope it will ever come!  Laugh  I said, yeah - it will probably be the day after that, when I went out and bought something else and then I will have two big bills to present to my bride, lol!    I picked up another Atlas ore car, so now have the set of Ind. Rail ore cars - 1, not the 2's.  Also picked up "another" magazine and oh yeah, the Sir Topham Hatt Gateman Whistling

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Patrick,

I hope that you deide to stick around.  I've thought the same thing that you have in the past, but I found that it was not really the case.  Personally, after reading to catch up with everyone, I can't remember everything that everyone has posted.  As a result, I forget to reply.

RT,

      Happy B-Day

I have learned that I will need to tear down both of my layouts as the sewage line under the basement floor needs to be replaced.  This is not something that I want to do, but I don't have a choice.  I plan to rebuild when the finacial situation allows.

Jim,

Better to tear them down now than after something that requires the the sewer pipe replacement happens. Visualize a holding nose smiley here.

Almost midnite for you Easties so I'll take this oppourtunity to say Happy B-Day to RT.

Jack, Since we will all be basking in warm sunshine and gentle breezes during the big game we can have all the doors and windows open. So should there be any unwanted breezes as a result of the chili unless they are extremely noisey they will more than likely go unoticed, hopefully Shock.

HI GYZ,

Well ran trains tonite for 1.5 hours, all good no problems,NO PILE UPS!!!!  I defrosted my beer refridgerator today.  I forgot to do it last year and this time took out 2, 5 gallon buckets of ice.  Put it outside of course so not to warm up atmosphere?  Rolling Rock Car is awesome!  Just love it.

LAWSON, you want to go somewhere else GO.  All the GYZ here are GREAT!  You have been here since January? Or so?  Bide your time.  Heck, when I started to post here on the pot BUCKEYE was giving me stuff about being a CLEVELAND INDIANS fan.  And he's from OHIO.  and as far as DA CHIEF is concerned, he is one of THEEE BEST AMBASIDORS of DA HOBBY that you can have.  I have met DA CHIEF a few times and he is a true, if I can say it SOUTHERN GENTLEMAN as you can find.  So if this is not your cup o tea go elsewhere.  You might dislike what I say, but if so do like  lots o other GYZ, so get in line.  I'm done now, sorry for my tirant.  But I had to get that off my chest.  Sort a like a bench press?

Doug,

The drain backs up sometimes, but luckily it hasn't caused trouble yet.  The way I see it, this is an opportunity to learn from my mistakes and build a better layout.  My postwar lionel layout is on an old ping pong table, and that will be easy to rebuild.  The other layout is 11x16, so that will be a challenge.

Wooo man.  I am sorrry you feel the way you do.  Nothing like that intended.  I have been extra busy lately.  I have not posted as much as usual as busy.  I even have posted from Town Hall to just say, "Hello" to the "Pot".  I think I have even mentioned that I have been to Culpepper and that my Uncle had a church there or near there [years ago].  I have even replied to you that wife and I use to spend a lot of time in Lexington VA.  As far as RFD-TV, I do not get it here but only at the lake house.  Black sheep, Yanks call me the black sheep of the forum.  I do remember asking you if you watched the cattle auctions on RFD.  In fact, the Time Warner Gov't rep got chewed on the other night at a reception on that very subject.  "Why can't you have RFD-TV when you have all those stupid channels no one likes?"  Her reply was they had looked into it.  Excuses aside.  You are a welcome member of the "Pot".  It is nice to have another REB on here.  One thing, when I "click" on your name, "no bio" comes up.  I check that on every new poster.  My email is available for anyone to contact me.  Send me your number and you will get a call.  Ask these guys.  Of course I do not like to talk much. ShockWhistlingLaugh   You have noticed a comment from fifey about a Roanoke visit this spring or summer.  Lots of good train "stuff" there.  You just might be the one to help us put it together [even though you are farther north].  As I use to travel a lot for Professional Mariner to Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's, I always tried to visit anyone on the fourm that was close by the cities I was visiting.  I've actually driven lots of miles on a rental car from an evernt to visit persons on the forum.  Bass Pro Shops or Cabela's build near you, I will be on your door step.  One of the most proud visits I pulled was the meeting in Harrisburg PA [while working a BPS event].  It will always be known as The Great Grits Caper.  I acted as if I did not know where the restaurant that John F had reserved a table for a luncheon.  The day before, I visited the restaurant [I knew all along where it was] and got the manager to cook up a pot of GRITS [bag I had flown in with my luggage].  SURPRISE to all.

Here we are all happy as a bug in a rug.

Then the GRITS hit the scene. [see the bowls on the table]

Please stick around.  I saw this after my earlier post and had to reply [even at this late hour] and the old Chief is sore and stiff and needing bed time.  Shoot me an email with your number and I will call.  God bless.

So, good night, sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite.

PS: OOPS, my feable mind forgot, Happy B-DayHappy B-Day RT [again].

 Hey All, What's Happenin?

See we got something interesting to talk about.  (I'm going to be serious here a minute)....

Patrick, I know your feeling, well.  I'm not part of the "clique" either.  I've even got mad before at the guys on this forum, and decided not to post anymore.  That lasted a couple of weeks.  I thought I would see if anyone noticed that I wasn't posting.  They didn't.  I don't even know why I came back, but I did.  Actually it happened twice.  But I realized I was the one missing out.  Thought I would throw a couple of comments out as well.

- I remember your conversation regarding RTV, I think you made a comment to me about Nascar, Country Music, Trains and NOT knowing of RTV.  We only have about 125 stations here, and that isn't one of them.  Now if you want something in Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Farce, Spanish, or about 6 other languages, let me know I can get it for you.

- I saw your post regarding the Animals and Rails, I thought that was REAL interesting, and maybe I read into it, but, I thought it was going to be a new REGULAR item to be posted.  That would be tremendous.  I still find it hard to believe that they were naturally black sheep.  I was expecting it to be revealled that they were dyed black.  So don't deprive us of all that info, if there is more.

Back to my normal "friendly" self...

Buckeye and Kurt, You guys should be aware there is an apparent exodus begining to evolve.  I saw 2 Mishigan cars, and 3 Ohizionian cars today,  ALL with U-Haul trailers.  Looked like the Mishigan cars were travelling together.  But the Ohizionian's were in different parts of town.  These trailers they were pulling sure didn't look like they had surf boards in them, they were movin'.

Jon, If you will, would you please see to it that those immigrants that are headed west PLEASE make sure they wash their cars!!  Before they leave Iowa!!  This is California, and we expect to be able to see the color of the car at least!!  We don't allow people to drive around with this whitish tan, smear marks and layed dirt look covering the vehicles.  (These cars and trailers really looked bad, I mean afterall.) --- Thanks Jon for your help on this,  I will see that the state recognizes you for your help, (dont expect cash though, we don't have any, they will send you an IOU.)

Still have on my mind all those replies and comments regarding Patricks post, well I will pass on a few "overall" comments regarding the activities and persons going on here..

First, The participants - We got 2 groups here the posters and readers; The posters think they're smarter than the readers, and the readers just havn't taken the time to show that they aren't....(that's too bad to because if the readers would post more we would all benefit)

Forum Etiquette - Now I'm not in the clique so I don't have authorization for the final say.  But what I am aware is, that most "forum, web" etiquete does not apply.  For example, using bold here isn't yelling, its a tool to use to identify your particular post. (some other observations

- When directing a comment to an individual, put their name (preferrably at the begining) in blue text.

- Feel free to quote another persons post, no problem

- It is NOt necessary to post anything of significance, just the fact that you are having some weather will do fine.

- Whenever ever you get a chance throw a dagger at the Chief, in some form of wit.  That is what he is here for!!  And, he won't understand most of them anyway.  (he speaks sutherin).

- You may have noticed that a number of the guys have this OTTS Certificate on their signature line.  (Ceptin the Chief of course, he is NOT allowed to have one).  These Certificates are awarded by the  Ohio Toy Train Summit, and to get one you need to either attend there meeting, or have significantly slandered, made fun of, humiliated, or just be a real PI da A to the Chief.  (That's how I got mine)

Finally, remember that's its quantity not quality of posts here.  These guys are a bunch of honest, friendly, considerate, old coots.  Not necessarily wise, but certainly helpful and considerate.

By the way, It is IMPOSSIBLE to read one days worth of posts here, and not leave in a better state of mind, than when you got here.

Gotta get going, the neighbors are sponsoring a party tonight.  We are collecting recyclable bottles to buy ammo for the sheriff's dept..

Guess it's Good Mornin, Ya'll,

Went to a Shriners' benefit last night.  Good cause.  Great time.  Chow was top shelf.  Now my wife can't complain I never take her anywhere, especially a place where a suit and an evening gown is standard attire.  She was looking so good I tried to take her home with me, and she went!  Big Smile

RT........Happy B-Day!!!!!!!!  The invitation to your party must have gotten lost in the mail.  Wife had wrapped up all your gifts, but when I didn't get the invitation, I ripped them all open and added them to MY train collection.  Smile,Wink, & Grin

JimT.........can't you rig up some sort of hoist and temporarily suspend the layouts from the ceiling and close to it after covering them in plastic?  Then the concrete can be ripped out, piped replaced, and the re-cement job completed.  If they can pour concrete in a finished crawl space, the head room lost with the suspended trains can't present too much of an inconvenience.

JimSP......prayers for your daughter.  You and we know she will find another, perhaps better job.  More important is that she not take the loss personally.  This is tough one on folks' pride and self image, especially when they know they have been giving 100% and have shown loyalty to the company.  The fact of the matter is that one can't really explain far too many of these decisions.  In many instances, one's compensation/benefits cost to the company are recovered many times over by one's contributions to the organization.  Yet the displaced person sees far less dedicated and productive employees retained.  My wife works in HR and works with employees during RIFs (reductions in force), and even though she is involved in the process from start to finish with the decision makers, the selection process of who stays and who goes baffles her.  Too much subjectivity (stupidity).  It's a wonder that companies survive despite the personnel decisions they make.

Patrick, Ole Timer, njalb1, and anyone feeling left out in this or any Forum.  When people don't know you, they read your posts but don't respond.  Isn't that like everyday life?  I liked what I read and learned in this Forum, and folks would help me out with train issues EVERY time I asked for help.  So I just kept reading and posting.  Like you, I didn't put in a bio and got called on it.  No big deal.  People don't warm up quickly to people who hold their cards too close to the vest.  It just takes time for people to get to know the person behind the posts.  Patience, my friends.

Dennis......when does the new kid start?  You never did respond to my question about what you were doing hanging over the edge of the railing of the choir loft when the ribs let go.

JimDuda......you don't post enough.

Roy.....did you know that the distance from one end of Texas is as much as the distance from your place to DougMs'?

Rich......some of those three way discussions can be quite helpful.  Sometimes it takes the middle person with an arms length perspective to break down some barriers.  Patience and an open mind too.  Prayers.

Lee.....have things settled down with the budget cuts?  You mentioned some knucklehead was making up stories that might spell trouble for you.

Laz......I have no idea how I survived Northern Winters for so many decades without my snowblower.  One day my wife saw me half dead on the couch after shovelling and asked me why I never bought one.  Now if I can just get her to approach my train hobby with the same understanding.  Mine only has 8 hp, but it gets the job done even with the snows we've had over 20".  Dual stage, limited slip dif, 6 forward speeds and 2 in reverse, headlamp and electric start......but sadly no cupholder or hand warming grips.  Beer is my high test beverage of choice, and what I like has expanded over the years.  I have my sipping beers and my guzzling beers.  The second refrigerator in the garage keeps me out of the wife's sacred territory in the kitchen one.  But since variety is the spice of like, I have to agree with Chief that I enjoy something with a little more horsepower when I go out to dinner.

Don......if you are an outsider in this Forum, what does that make me?  Careful now!  Hope your a/c didn't consume your train budget in January.  I was worrying about that every day while I was shoveling snow and listening to the furnace burn up large chunks of my wallet.  Thanks for the Forum etiquette update.  Am I in the geezer category?  Do I get any special dispensation for senility?

DougDG......I was going to bring some sun screen over to your place for the SB game, but it has passed the expiration date on the bottle.  Is that an issue?  Also, what is the proper attire for watching a football game in CA in February?  Do I need to bring my sunglasses?

Jon and Kooljock.....you guys got me to wondering what the record low temps are for your neck of the woods.  I've survived -28 in Rhinelander Wisconsin and fully understand why Northwoods loves his AF trains.  If he went out in that, his thingy would freeze and fall off.  Man, it's brutal North of Wausau in the Winter.

Chief.....Maximus is housebroken!  And he isn't 4 months old yet.

Brutus and Dennis.....having all your train purchases shipped to the house.  Too dangerous.  You guys need a better plan.  Jim, you need to post pics of Chewy in the snow.  All we would see are two eyeballs with a touch of yellow and brown.

Sack time.  Good night, ya'll.

Jack

Good morning EVERYBODYSign - Dots

Cut the dog some slack, coming off night work...and I have never felt the need to comment on everything and anything.  If it interests me, I'll throw a line in.  If a question is something within my sphere of knowledge, I'll try to help.

Folks that show up and say "Look at me" usually don't get it...

BTW, Lawson Farms, I was one of the first to "notice" you.  Made a comment on how Culpepper was fun to say...better go back and read...didn't get my whities in a knot when you didn't reply.

Morning all.  Fifey, sleep tight and don't Super Bowl party.  If you do, you will not stay awake for night duty.  Lazy this morning.  Still a little stiff from all the work I did yesterday.  Old man like me needs to take it easy. Whistling

Patrick [REB gray], cows fed?  Now they say we are going to miss the "bullet" [snohio].  Will have a couple of cold days in the middle of the week but warming again after that.  Use to have to feed the cows extra when it snowed.  Actually, kept them under a big enclose shelter if bad weather.  Did not have a big herd.  When I lived in Southern Wake County, had neighbor with small dairy farm.  I use to get up and help him milk.  Dairy farming is not for me.  It is really confining.

Mornin' Fellas.

Patrick Sign - Welcome to the forum... again. Wink

Like the others have said it takes time to assimilate into the group. I had been a regular poster for some time and for the last 6 - 7 months have been on again off again due to my work schedule and busting my behind on the layout. We are a welcoming group, after the initial welcome we read everything and responde only to that which we have time... if we responded to every post Bergie and OGuageOverlord would be locking this thread everyday.

Rockisland was gone for a few weeks so we sent out a search party to track his forgettful rearend down... we cut him some slack because he's from New England and they're a bit 'slow' up there this time of year due to snow and frigid temps... Kurt hasn't posted in a while, but he's from MeatChickenLand and well we just can't have too few of them around! Wink jk Kurt we Love YOU man! Smile... Buckeye - my wife has a secret love afair with his avatar, but once she met him person she was less than impressed Shock. Fife - well he's fife... the sarcastic one in the whitie tighties (what else can we say about him?). Laz - He's and Ol' Milwakee kinda guy - 'nuf said there. Wink DBaker? Who is that? RT - he's kinda mixed up. Thinks he's from the North and South, kinda blueishgrey around the collar if you ask me? Dennis is the brains of the operation around here, or should that be heart? Brutus - he's our designated driver... every group needs one. CNW - he's our trolley director. Specializes in small motor power, he keeps our egos in check. Chuck - we call on him for good ol' rock-n-roll... everybody needs to take a trip to Blueberry Hill once in awhile. Grayson and Collin are our pride and joy! These young men have chosen to grace our forum with their presence and have grown into very nice gentlemen. Collin seems to have dropped off since he got his drivers license, probably out courting the ladies! Grayson - had as rough a welcome on the forum as anyone could have and now he is viewed quite differently, many people could take a que from him on how to change people's first impressions. JBaker - he's our redheaded step brother from across the great pond... if you need to know about English Brews or Sprits he's your man! SJ - he's the forum knight... tries to keep us in line but everyone knows its the squires who run the joint. Chief - he's from the South - no one listens to him, the verdict is still out on whether he is really Buckeye's long lost brother... Whistling

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RT and many, many more.  I have one coming up soon and I'm trying to decide what to buy myself---maybe a new iTouch or more chrome for the bike or............ or all of the above........ or maybe not.  I know Chief promised me something nice as he has done with Buckeye but I'm not holding my breath.  Actually, we've been saving about all the extra money we have just in case this recession goes longer than expected.  I have heard two reports this week about how long it should last, one said over by July and the other by the end of the year, not sure anyone knows for sure.  Just hoping every can get back to work and stay employed.

LAZ--I'm in total agreement with you, enough said.

Pulling for AZ this afternoon, Curt Warner is a Cedar Rapids, IOWA kid and University of Northern IOWA grad, parents are still in Cedar Rapids.  He made a huge impact this summer when Cedar Rapids was devastated by the flooding, a truly giant person.  Zach Johnson, Masters Golf Champion is also is from Cedar Rapids and they used to play pick up basketball outside as they only lived a few blocks apart.  He also was a big part of the recovery, still much to do but they will get through it without whining or complaining.  The out pouring of volunteer help is incredible.  Even little Parkersburg which suffered through an F4 tornado in late May is about half rebuilt, the town is about 2000 and over half of it was leveled, simply gone.

We have much to be thankful for.

Jon

Jon hope you have better luck with a present from chief than I did with ROCKISLAND I was still asleep when he already reclaimed my presents and put them on his layout. Man 4:17a.m. he says I didn't show so there his. Whistling

So I 'm a blueish grey color am I. Well a certain person seems to lived in Pa and then move south of the border himself.

Just for to clear something up I'm not really a big Nascar fan just the price was right to get the whole series so couldn't resist. lets see they originally retailed for about $1300.00 and got it all for less than $500.00  so not a bad bargain in my book and I can always do some customizing to make it how I want. already think I'll take the shell from the #8 dale jr engine and put it on my GP-9 NYC TMCC engine that has a pul-mor motor with magnatraction so I will have a real good pulling GP-38 engine. Only difference will be that the frams will be black instead of yellow and the NYC will now have a yellow frame don't want to re paint either frame incase I want to switch back for some reason. figure should be able to pul a couple of those expansion pack behind it.

ROCKISLAND,

Hey JACK, I might have to use the sno-blower again on Tueday?  I really like it but don't use the reverse 2 gears.  Kinda slow, so I manhandle it.  I probably will use it when I'm older?  The last time I used it came in after doing 4 driveways I was soaked with sweat.  I guess a great workout and had to replace those electrolite with some frosty beverages.  I'll let you know how the handwarmers are when I use em.

I don't know how I did it but I caught the worst case of the stomach flu I have had in years.   I am finally getting enough strength back to punch the keys again.

Jon....Your'e great at music, but the Steelers are going to win.

RT....HAPPY BIRTHDAY Happy B-Day and all of us that know you, say "Keep Up the GOOD WORK".  BTW, Old Timers hit fifedog many years ago.  You can take that to the bank.

Phish.....Sorry about your daughters plight.  Southern Ohio is a hard place to find a job.  If there is anything I can do up here in Columbus, just let me know.

Chuck.....Glad to see you have power.  Hocking Hills is a mess.

fifedog.....Thank you for the V Day reminder.  Do you think she would like the C&O boxcar or the Wabash Locomotive?

jt...Do you know that sometimes they can fix a broken sewer line without replacing the line.  They install a liner inside the line.  Check the yellow pages.

Shake & Bake.....Of course people from Ohio and Michigan are moving to California.  They want to lower their tax bill.

Rock Island...I'm pretty sure you are an old geezer, but senility has not set in, yet.

Chief.....It must be hard surviving in 20 degree heat. Laugh

Laz & SJ....The way you guys keep track of pileups, I'm starting to assume that in the past they were numerous.

Doug....How can anyone have sinus problems in San Diego?  Does the warm beach sand get stuck in your nose and cause a problem? Laugh

Mike C....Of course Lucas came home from college this weekend.  In the good old days, college kids went to basketball games on Saturdays.  Routs are not basketball games. Whistling

Just got to the Patrick thread, all the guys have said everything that needs said.

Laz....Thank you for reminding me to turn up the heat again this spring concerning your lack of baseball intelligence.

88....I was planning to get Susie-q flowers for V Day.  I'm not so sure now.  My heart is broken.
