Mike - you are right about that! Your turn to drive
Spent the day hanging out with the kids. Daughter is getting over a cold so they couldn't go out and play in the snow. Local roads have not been cleared yet, I guess they are waiting for some reason? I cleared the driveway with my snowblower, through down some ice melter and that was about it for the day Oh, I did get the new CTT today! Still need to read the Feb issue, which just showed up about a week ago I think?
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

RockIsland, I was being a little sarcastic with the socialist medical situation. As I mentioned, it would make my schedule a lot easier, no call, etc. But ethically, it will be tragic. Not sure folks know what they are getting into. As you say, helps for folks who have a minor issue at the emergency room, but if you need surgery, or any specialized procedure, you will be put on a waiting list. There are plenty of examples from our European and Canadian governments. Over 80% of medications prescribed in those countries are considered "obsolete" by American standards. They will limit the access for folks who fall outside the government limits and so we will allow our elderly to suffer and die. When you set limits like this, the government dictates care. They take away options for both doctors and patients alike. Some things, like: say you need a gall bladder operation. Laparoscopically, it will have you released that day, and back to work in 2-3 days. If it was left to the bean counters, it is slightly cheaper to have open surgery. This will require 2-3 days in the hospital and about 1-2 weeks out of work. Government would require your surgeon to do an open procedure.
OK, off my high horse. been real busy last night and today. Have some big cases still to do. Was nice to watch the Fireproof DVD. What is really encouraging is all the stories of marriages saved from the ashes. While we did this for free, the rewards have been eternal.
Just finished downloading a lot of songs for the iTouch. I have quite the eclectic variety. I think if I played it over room speakers, it would drive other people listening nuts! HMMM, depending on the nurses in tomorrow's cases, this could be fun....
Well, gotta run. Hope everyone has a blessed week. Mike, great to see you here. Rich, hang in there.
God Bless,Dennis

Jon, You forgot to mention PA. We are 3 Billion in the hole. The Gov's last speech he said that he will close down some agencies that are no longer serving a purpose, or words to that effect. If that is the case why did it take a recession to get them closed?
Good Evening from Southern Ohio,
It is 31°F and raining turning to ice. The drive home from work wqs lousey, but made it home safe and just finished supper. Taco Lasagna with a Sam Adams.
Rich – Prayers that God’s will be done.
Buckeye – I got your package today
Jack – Do something unexpectantly nice in return, it might start a trend!
Mike C – Glad you’re still posting
Dennis – I worked a plug in the homily for Fireproof!
May God bless
Jim
Well now we are expecting some snow the guessperts said we would not get. A trip to the grocery this morning and a phone chat with Brutus was The highlites of my day. No trains, so no pileups.

Don: It's Alzheimer’s. I bet he doesn't even remember posting the first time.
anjdevil2: I know you say it's for the best, but it's sad to hear of a marriage going south. Prayers for you and your Bride.
Brutus: Nice to hear from you today! I fixed the power problem in the switch. It must be a poor connection. I soldered a feed between the switches, and it solved the problem. I should have removed it, but I just ballasted everything in. I do have another problem switch that I can remove, and repair correctly.
Bride in bed early, already sleeping. Kids too. I don't think they'll notice if I slip out for a bit. Beacon switched on!
I was able to run trains for a bit today! One pile up. I have the bumpers off, and was testing the UCS's, trying to line up the Dockside switcher to uncouple, raised the voltage, hit the uncouple switch a couple of times, and it switched into forward, shooting a gondola down the siding, and across the branch line and onto the floor. Managed to stop the switcher in time.

Software. And I sent a delete. Still not deleted. Heading home. Chamber dinner and awards over. Good night.
PS: got home and had email from CTT forum. Duplicate deleted. HUMMM Yankee software. Might be Town Hall server. Sometimes you type and then the line adds. Think I clicked on post and it sat. Thought I had not clicked and clicked again. What is Don's excuse?

Rich - what Kurt said, hope things work out for the best. Snow continues, 230 schools closed for tomorrow. I'll be going downtown tomorrow, but that's okay - they should have it under control by then, right?
Enjoyed some nice chats with 3 fine guys - Kurt, RT and Sir James (alphabetically ordered!). Phone died as I ran out the battery on one! No problems solved, but RT did promise me some yellow cake with chocolate icing, so let's go!
Jon, Are you going to be taking part in the annual pilgramage to Clear Lake prior to heading down to Key West ?
Got something in the works for SPF, hopefully it will be ready.

The original post was so prolific with the solution for California Budget Issue, (BTW John, $3b is chump change), I'm sure the original message was rerouted by Arnold's Investigative team, and sent to the State Controllers Office. (Whom has been spending a lot of time in Ariz.) And a copy was sent to CTT Forum, which arrived at the same time my secondary post.
Dennis - I too am concerned, and I'm not in the health industry. I have a great concern that you are right about what the future may hold.

Just wanted to stop in and say hello to all. Life should be more normal after today. Have a good one to all.

Buckeye--
I don't know what's wrong but we've dodged this latest storm totally, it's just seasonally chilly here today with negative temps and clear skies. Some folks have all the luck.
Doug--this is the 50th Anniversary of the weekend that the music died at the Surf. It's really been a big deal this year with lots of history of the event in the state paper, very interesting. We used to live just south of Clear Lake and we used to to frequent the Surf, I've played there a few times when we lived up there. Folks from all over the world will be there this weekend with their poodle skirts and white bucks. The whole Dance Party Tour history was chronicled from that winter, what a grind for those guys, long drives nearly every day and more often than not, no heat in the bus. That's why Buddy and the Big Bopper chartered a plane that night---$35.00 a piece for a small aircraft. Very sad.
Jon
So many roads, so little time.
Mornin' boys. HAZARDOUS in the Mid-Atlantic region. If I were to step outside my front door right this instant, I would end up looking like Clark Griswold in Christmas Vacation.
Worked on layout fascia yesterday, cutting and installing more sections of white ice panelling. Perhaps I shouldve modelled summer...
HI GYZ,
Beatiful weather here too, this morning. NO SCHOOL for laz!!!! Gotta break out the sno blower and have some fun. We got 4 inches of the feels like sand, SNO HI O, just a bit colder. I almost want to go outside in bare feet?
Gonna snow blow and play with trains. I already got my 3 mile run in down in the MAN CAVE! Felt good, got another 1 or 2 miles this afternoon?
Stay FROSTY,
laz57
laz - I was wundering why my legs were feeling a little sore...thanks big guy.
Hey, Boys!!
48 up to 78(!) today, sun and clouds (right now, damp & cloudy). Have left over Pork Ribs for dinner (I bar-b-que'd) and fries. That was after our sessoin at therapy (me, Mrs & Princess). Temporary stay of execution, as it were. Gives me time to get some cash together and move some stuff out (sell).
Thanks for the support guys...I have faith that things will work out one way or the other. I'm concerened but not worried. God handles all, just need to let Him guide me along. It's all good. The sun comes up and goes down and like I told my daughter everyday is another opportunity to see the good things. Some good, some bad happens, but life is a great experience and we're fortunate to live in these times. I keep smilin' and glad to see you guys, my family and the smile on my daughter. It really is all good!!!
See ya in a bit - Dennis you're right on the money on the Socialist Health Care, BTW!
I am the monster in your head...And I thought you'd learn by now, It seems you haven't yet.I am the venom in your skin --- Breaking Benjamin
A quick stop by this morning. I know it seems I am on here all the time lately.....I am not really, just tap in between cases and other duties. This is kind of like my "Happy Place", a place of solitude. Probably the happy place of a lot of folks.
I have been reading some of my scenery books as well. Main thing will be trees and a waterfall. Isn't it required that if you go HiRail, you have to have lots of trees and a waterfall? Kind of like living in Florida... you need a Flamingo on the lawn.
Rich, I just said a prayer for both you and your wife. Hope things work out.
May God Bless,Dennis
PS: Jim, thanks for the plug, think it will do great things for so many.
RockIsland, I didn't answer your question, I have a old EM and a N80. I want to make the jump for a digital body, but want to wait for the Image Stabilized body. Konica has one, so I am sure Nikon and Cannon will follow suit, except that they get so much for the IS lenses, they may take a while.
Good morning all,
It is snowing in SE Indiana, so much they even closed the Honda plant for a day (as if they really need the production anyway!). I am staying home as well. New washer and dryer are installed and tested and the "saucy wench" is happy (with the washer and dryer, if not me). Did go to the YMCA last night, but not sure if I will today as I may be shoveling snow for exercise. Spent about 2.5 hours watching a DVD on steam trains the oldest daughter's family gave me for Christmas. There is still some left on it and another DVD as well. I had bran muffins this morning on the dining car for breakfast (courtesy of the "saucy wench"). Good drive in the Tardis last night. Thought I was going to need tire chains for it in a few spots, but it did ok. I hope everyone has a good day. Prayers and thoughts going out to those who need them.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Dennis--
I made a lot of pocket change in college using my SLR for sport's photo's and student shots for the admissions dept. I hated to give up my SLR 7 years ago but I gotta tell you, my Nikon D70s runs circles around the old equipment. Last fall I bought a Panasonic FX100 with a Leica lens so I could have something small that I could take on the bike, it's an AMAZING camera plus it's 12 Mega Pixels, it will match the high end cameras for large prints and all for less than $200. My wife and I still prefer the Nikon but it's nice to have a small back up if we both need a camera. Hard to beat Nikon quality.
Morning. Cloudy, warm and foggy. Misting rain some too. Jon, seasonably cool for Ioway is -10 below. Buckeye, glad its you and not me in all that icey stuff. Fife, hope you don't have to work today. If so, you will be BUSY!!!! Mike C, no GRITS?????? Rich, been there and done that. [kids and I moved to apt. years ago, had to store trains and tear up layout, had no $$$ and had to start over, I am a lot better oof today] Will work out for your good. Just keep the faith. Town Manager had wife walk out on him and three kids [one is girl 5 years old] about a year ago. He is doing real well now.
Time for smoked sausage and GRITS. Later.
Good Morning,
Sunny & warm here in south Florida again, up to 82 yesterday. May cool off again for the weekend.
dougdagrump, which is better; an IOU or unemployment? With my job we are all worried about being the next person on the unemployment line.
Went up to my parents yesterday, had off from work, to help them with their TV set. Stopped at a couple of local hobby shops and found some bad news about the shop in Jupiter FL, My Rose Hobbies is not re-stocking Fastrac by Lionel, say it is a money issue. Sounds like My Rose Hobbies is going out of business, also have a few 20% off signs in windows. The last big hobby shop to bite the dust down here was BT&L Railroad in West Palm Beach. The Depot in Lantana is off in sales as well, had to cut a couple of employees.
Seen the new Williams diesel by Bachman at The Depot yesterday, looks nice but it also looks like it has a plastic gear in the drive train unlike Williams which had all metal gears, also can see wires inside the cab. I think that Bachman has cheapened the quality of the new Williams locomotives. Until I hear more from friends I will not buy the new Williams by Bachman.

Just finished shoveling driveway. Had some snow then freezing rain so there was a crust on top of snow. Wanted to get it off before it got packed down. Had that happen before and it is no fun removing it. Snowing rather steady now and the flakes are good sized. Will have to shovel it again later this afternoon.
Was contacted last Friday by a company I sent a resume to a few weeks ago. They called when we weren't home so they said to call back Monday. I called, got voicemail, left a message (as instructed to do) with all requested information. Haven't heard anything more. Not surprising, with all the layoff announcements on Monday and Tuesday, the candidate pool just got MUCH larger.
P.S. Just called again, left another message.
Good morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a nasty weather day. 32 degrees and raining. Freezing rain. Power was out from 4 am to 7am, this morning. Looks like a big glazed donut outside. Got about 4 inches of snow yesterday. Staying home today.
Maybe I will run trains later. Hope the power doesn't go out again.
Dining car was here and we had breakfast late.
Y'all have a great Wednesday.
Chuck
Greg M,
I don't mean to be sarcastic but anybody hiring right now is almost a contradiction in words! The way people are getting laid off, sort of makes me LOL!
Anyway much success on getting a job!
Morning all. Just a dusting of lake-effect snow here - for once, it missed us. Funny how you get used to highs of only 15, 16, 18. Tired today after my long day and evening. Need more joe to perk up for the rest of the day.. Lotsa interesting stuff in the March CTT. Gave my Feb. issue to my conductor friend. He had his hands full last evening with loud, drunken, young folks on the late train home.

Good Morning
We have 2 inchs of snow, maybe. Not much really and 18 degrees so non of it is going away. This is two winters in a row that we have doubled our "average" and still a long way to go. Wheres the global warming they keep talking about, around here the temps keep getting colder.
As you can tell it's going to be an indoor day so CTT and my trains are waiting.
Dennis the doctors in the Detroit area have a lot of patients from Canada, as they need care and the waiting list in Canada are to long for them to get treatment in time. And with no insurance they have to pay for treatment here. But gives them a chance at living. ...S.J.
I just backed up a page and read about the snow and ice. BE CAREFUL, many moons ago we had an all day rain that turned to snow over nite, bottom line I could not see the ice under the snow. Result=broken knee, cast from my ankle to my yatzee six weeks then rehab. Much better to just take the safe slow but sure way.
Just got done playing in the snow with new snow blower. What fun. I did my driveway and 3 of my neighbors. I had a ball and definitly was a great investment for it is saving my back. Boy did I sweat though, seems like I did my second workout. FIFE hope you felt that too?
