Good morning, ya'll.  (Chief has me reading some Berlitz book on proper Southern English).

Following my post yesterday about the car wreck near my house, the street was blocked off for nearly an hour.  My son was late for work as a result but didn't explain it to his boss or apologize.  What is it with these kids?  The 63 year old woman at the wheel the "hitting" car passed out at the wheel, diabetic, nasty disease.

Brent.....go clean some toilets and wash wifey's car.  It will make SusieQ smile.  Women cannot become spoiled, at least that's what my wife tells me.  Re the management opportunity, at your age I'd be looking hard at the potential vs the $5,500 and the risk of change.  Your market value with the Masters changes your employer value in the market.  Bennies are no longer chump change.  By the same token, you may want to punt for 6 months or so to see what your current employer will come up with, if gently prodded.  All upside, no matter what you decide.

Jason....continued prayers for your Mom's speedy recovery.

Chief....batching it for a few days?  Stay away from the infamous Rolesville strip clubs and tend to the grits bashers on the Pot.  However, a surprise permit inspection would qualify as "work."

Doug.....Happy B-Day [bday].  Enjoy, you only turn 29 once.  No grits with that b-day pizza?

Don.....are you going to break out your old Metallica t-shirts and drive Chris to the concert?  If you didn't save your t-shirts, I think Chuck or Chief's got some.

MikeC and Laz....watched a Cesar Milan Dog Whisperer rerun on cable and can picture you two out running with the dogs wearing backpacks loaded with Millers.  Light, of course.

MikeC.....doesn't it make you happy when the kids help out with the heavy lifting around the ranch?  Thumbs Up [tup] Lucas.  Now go get the car fixed.  You don't expect him to be seen in public in a crunched vehicle, do you?

Steve.....go borrow an automobile creeper for the under-the-table wiring project.

RT.....re the bankers and the mortgage loan, stay on them and outlast the b_s_a_rds.  Banged Head [banghead]  If you are concerned with trains space, check out Dave Smith's video of his 5' x 9' layout http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mI5SrbCNeKMThumbs Up [tup]  That should keep you busy for a decade or two.

Chuck.....we are waiting to see your "girl pops out of the cake" b-day pics.  Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Fife and Brent.....I thought you guys were pulling for the Red Sox, not the Os.  Sad [:(]

CSXect.....what year is your TransAm?  FIL has a 1983 Daytona 500 Special Edition, only 2500 made.

Dennis....my father was a pcp and surgeon back in the day, and he used to leave the house each morning with "I'm off to stamp out disease, save lives, and all that rot."

Mitch.....congrats and Thumbs Up [tup] on the your son's graduation.  Bet you're proud.  By the way, my wife's "honey do" lists are typed.  If I "lose" it, she just prints out another.Sad [:(]

Laz....isn't Millersburg in the Blue Mountains?  That would make you a mountain man without the beard.

Enjoy the day, ya'll.

Well, case is done and I am heading home.  Got another big one tomorrow.  Jack, I often leave the house, the kids and wife are asleep.....by the time I am finished, they have had a full day and go back to sleep.  Then, I have to come back to the hospital and they haven't known I had been home.  Just part of what I do, but it does get nice when I am done at 11am and get to spend the rest of the day with the family.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DOUG!  Today is your day....spend it well.

Become spoiled? Nope. They are born spoiled. Wink [;)]

That was my thought process on the job front too. However I know my employer won't pony up because this is a G'vt contract and they don't have much wiggle room. The thing is this is the first position of its type that I have seen open up in the 3 years I've been down here. Low level management is hard to come by because they are usually promoting from within the company for these positions.

I'm not counting my chickens yet. Still have to arrange and pass a phone screen.

Been to too many M&T Bank games (Steeler fan) dressed in Purple to discuss. Dressing in Black and Gold during a Ravens game is not good for your health.

Good Morning (Or did I allready say that?)

Made it to the office waiting for a customer who is suppose to be here early, still waiting.

Tried calling Lionel service, they are at lunch.  Seeing if I can find why when I try and do a lash-up with my Big Boy and the Cab Fwd, it turns the ZW xfmr off.  (Heard rumblings there is a problem with the ZW receiving an erroneous "Halt" message.  If I start them independently no problem, just in the lash-up mode.   Hmmm, just thinking been trying this with Legacy on, the lash-up has to be done in TMCC, maybe need to disconnect Legacy and do TMCC with the Cmnd Base and see if it happens then.)

Jack - Sure enjoy your posts, I admire your quick wit!!!!!

Why does the lashup need to be done in TMCC? As long as you have the Legacy chip for the Big Boy loaded and the Generic Steam chip loaded for the Cab Fwd you should be fine. I have my two GP-30s loaded into Legacy with no problems. You just have to run the TMCC engine first and the Legacy engine second because the Legacy cruise can compensate for the difference between TMCC and Legacy. Do NOT run a Legacy engine first and a TMCC engine second, the Legacy engine starts out before the TMCC engine and you will burn out your Legacy motor.

Yep. Timmyodium

There were 38,000 at the game last night. Most likely a smaller crowd today since it is a day game.

Sounds good on the repaint. As soon as I get the Mikado and figure out how to create a decal with a white background I'll stop over and we can redo the Mikado in NPCL! Wink [;)]

Just got an email that my Cruise Commander 'M' is shipping. Thumbs Up [tup] Will be doing that upgrade next week once this week is finished on Monday. (only have to read and post next week for school).

Brent - Interesting !

I actually did have the Legacy engine first, and the TMCC second.  Now the reason for them in TMCC is that since they are not BOTH Legacy, the manual said to run them in TMCC.  Ok, did that per the manual.  And the result as stated before thru the ZW out.

I had some conversations with Marty E, via the other forum.  And he mentioned that it was a problem that had been discussed at the Legacy User Group meeting at the past York.  And, it was acknowledged by Lionel that there was a false 'Halt' command, being sent to the xformer.  And, that they would be looking at what they need to do as a fix.  (Software or Xformer Controller Bd, not known at the time.)

So, I took the engines to our club, and ran the Lashup on the layout there which is powered by a MTH 4000 xformer.  Worked great.  That particular night the Legacy system was not hooked up to the layout, so I actually ran it under DCS, 4.01 !!  Now as a result of my earlier post, I thought about taking Legacy Base off my system at home, and connecting the TMCC Cmnd Base, and using Cab-1, if that would work. ????

Got through to technical support at Lionel, (just a few minutes ago), they said "Yea, as indicated on pg 47 of the revised manual, it is best NOT to intermix Legacy and TMCC engines in a lash-up.  There is some software compatibility problems, and not sure about the resolution.  If and/or When."  Asked about my idea about taking Legacy out of system, he said "Hmmm havn't tried that, don't know if it will work or not.  But it definetly will NOT hurt either engine."

So interesting.............. I will try the TMCC option the next chance I get, and be watching for a "FIX" on the TMCC/Legacy Lash Up capability.  IMHO I would think that that would be a major or at least a significant feature requiring attention.  Gotta be a lotta TMCC engines sitting in basements, that new Legacy owners would want to marry into a Lash up with the newer engines.  (Especially if the problem is only prevelant with the ZW transformer and not the MTH transformer.)

Well stopped by the LTS yesterday to drop off the Allegheny. While there the owner let me take the RS-3 back for further testing. Got her home and she runs a bit better, problem is I have to keep rotating the CAB-2 dial to speed her up. Was reading the ERR site yesterday and it appears their cruise commander is a direct replacement for the K-Line cruise so I may pick one up and give it a try. I was planning on buying one for another engine so if it doesn't fix the K-Line cruise then I can always return the engine. Also was reading the instruction manual for installing and the instructions show installation in a K-Line Allegheny. So when I get the Allegheny back I may go ahead and install one in that too. Could be do a lot of upgrades in the near future! Sigh [sigh]

Brent,

Have you tried doing a "reset" of the speed steps?

How does it perform on a different layout with TMCC ?

My B&O Mike absolutely refuses to do anything but crawl on the club layout but here at home it runs smooth as silk. Signal Issues !!!!! I set mine to 256 speed steps, you do a lot of spinning of the Cab-1 red knob but it eliminated the starting "cruise lurch".

Afternoon all from wet Southern Ohio,

Raining now and looks like it will be fore the next few days.  I just got up and preping for my last nightshift for this week, fresh hot coffee to shake out the cobwebs.  I saw gas was at $3.98!  Diesel $4.49!

Don is this the Water Tower?

I agree, the operating spout does draw a lot of current.  I have it wired off a 190 watt 17B, with other accesories and lights, and with only the lamps operating activate the spout and everyting dims.  There was an article about the Tower blowing lamp bulbs in last months CTT.

Fife- Maybe if some of the list gets done, or start several items.

Dennis- I am looking forward to seeing the film.  We used Facing the Giants as a theme for our youth group one evening.

Check back later

May God bless

Jim,

Yep exactly the same one.  Only the lens on mine has faded to a yellow.  In the process of reinstalling it, (it has been sitting on a shelf for about 15 yrs), and trying to get the wiring figured out.  I managed to break one of the filament leads from the coil.  So in the process of fixing that one, I broke the other one.  Got it fixed too.

Initially, when I first got it installed it on the same circuit as the other lights on the layout.  When I would activate the spout, all the lights would dim except for the one on the tower. It went completly out.  So after I fixed the coil wires, I thought why not put a 4th wire in the tower, and have the lamp and spout independent of one another.  So I have it now that the spout is on an accessory ckt, and as a result have that controlled by the AIU I have in the DCS system.  And the light on the layout light circuit.  Now the light stays on when the spout is lowered.

The only difficulty is that all the rest of the lights in the house dim, when it is activated.  Whistling [:-^] (Joking)

Oh Yeah, it appears to me that the N arrow at the top is pointed in the wrong direction, it should be at about the 7:00 position.

Mine may be a later version as it came with a three wire hookup.  I put the N facing north as the layout lays.  It is a repo decal.  The water tower was the first accesory I aquired, so it is a semental favorite.  I don't have a "Water Tower" button on the console, but use a regular early Flyer PBNO, and run the light off the steet lamp bus

Jack, this is a real Big Boy:

Can you ID this one (hint - it has nothing to do with Battlestar Galactica):

PS - there is some info on this BIG BOY here:

http://www.steamlocomotive.com/bigboy/

Scroll down and you can read about it at the St. Louis Museum of Transportation, it's Locomotive number 4006...  I have to admit though, I think Chief's is bigger!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SUPER-DOUG!!!

0

Laz, I love those 19th tank cars from MTH too!  Sounds like a cool collection to me!

Hey, hang in there Mitch, the light at the end of the tunnel could be a (toy) train! Thumbs Up [tup]

Dennis, Kirk is a good actor, I can't wait to see this one when it hits St. Louis!  Facing the Giants was really excellent, a couple people have asked to borrow it too.

Phone calls and nobody is there - computer somewhere is checking to see if this is a working number and when you are home, building a database for later calls.  What a pain.  Also, that's right, Washington never misses a trick, even bypasses your don't call lists!

Hope you are having a good trip, Marty - always love that Wallace and Gromit pic!

Brent - good luck on that job offer, I am sure you will make a good choice.  I have found I prefer to be an worker bee -- different heartaches than being a boss, that's for sure.

Nice water tower, Jim S-P, what model is that?  I guess I missed an article?

Don, keep us posted on that Legacy thing, interesting problem.

Hey CSX - did that TARDIS sound link work I posted last night?  It works on my computer.  They had some other sounds on that website too!

Pizza and Ice Cream, yummy!

The Water Tower is a 596.

I just received this and I thought I would share it with you:

9 WORDS WOMEN USE

1. Fine : This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.

2. Five Minutes : If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour. Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.

3. Nothing : This is the calm before the storm. This means something, and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing usually end in fine.

4. Go Ahead : This is a dare, not permission. Don't Do It!

5. Loud Sigh : This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about nothing. (Refer back to #3 for the meaning of nothing.)

6. That's Okay : This is one of the most dangerous statements a women can make to a man. That's okay means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.

7. Thanks : A woman is thanking you, do not question, or Faint. Just say you're welcome.

8 . Whatever : Is a women's way of saying drop dead

9. Don't worry about it, I got it : Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking "What's wrong?" For the woman's response refer to #3.

Don,
That is VERY interesting. I've been doing this since my birthday when I got my Legacy GP-30 and haven't had any problems. The TMCC engine's rear motor does whine some for the most part they run fine together.

Doug,
I've tried resetting the stall, resetting the speed steps (32, 100, 256), resetting the engine ID, resetting the base programming to both diesel no flash, diesel with flash... I'll be opening it up and checking the connections in the next few days, and then if they are all OK, then I'll try the ERR CCM

Banged Head [banghead]

OH, yes we tried it at the LTS on their test track, both with and without TMCC... same result.

Brent,

I know this is going to sound stupid, but "What about the High Voltage setting". Start up the loco, press set then boost holding each for one second. Like I said it sounds stupid but I think you have already tried everything else. Sigh [sigh]

Forgot to say "been there, done that", thought either the loco or the transformer was going belly up. Finally after many blue words I discovered that it was the hi-voltage setting keeping it from moving much more than a crawl. Blush [:I]

Hey CSX - hang in there man, it's a job to keep your weight under control.  I got down to 270 and then back up to 300.  Need to get back on the diet.  Doc didn't seem concerned about it, but I am - don't want more health problems down the road.  I need a new Doc, this one isn't very good.

Okay Sir James, warmed up and ready to go!  Kurt should have the kids asleep by now.  Don, Laz, other Doug?  Anybody else want me to pick them up on the way?  The TARDIS makes it easy as pie, LOL.

Happy B-Day [bday]DougHappy B-Day [bday]  It may be the next day but still happy birthday.  Had fun with boat.  Got real windy. Shock [:O]  I caught one fish and buddy caught none.  Did not fish but about 3 hours as his back is out.  Gets some kind of injection at an out patient facility next Monday.

Fife, free trip for you anytime.

Figured out how to play VCR on new HD TV.  Had the DVD going great but had to get the right selection to get VCR to show video.  Was getting sound on one selction but no video.  Got it now.

Off to bed.  Calling for rain some tomorrow. Good night.

Mitch - Haven't seen my neighbor lately. You keeping him busy at the school? (Not sure if the board heard this or not, but my neighbor is building Mitch's school - we found out when Mitch, Fife and JohnF came by after York last month). Hope the hiring gets straightened out, that has to be frustrating. BTW - Two houses for sale on my block! Wink [;)]

Brent - I have not seen much of your neighbor as I have been super busy with other stuff.  Hope to get out to school today.  Staffingis still ongong.  They named my new Assistnt Principla last night.  She starts in July.  She's a great lady I worked few a few years ago.  I couldn't be happier. Enjoy the ballgame.  Have a cold one and a dog on Fifie.  He's such as nice guy I'm sure he wouldn't mind buying a round of dogs and brews for your crew.

Thanks Jack.  We are very proud of him.  Now he has about 10 weeks to finish a last course, his thesis, an internship and then get a JOB .  We want him off of Mom & Dad's payroll.

I have a dermatologist appt. this AM to get the results from the "scraping" they did a few weeks ago.  Hope it is nothing serious. But I had to go after Dad and my brother both had skin cancer stuff in the last few months.

Have a great day.

Morning!? Already?

Thank for picking me up last night guys!  Whatta party.  Good thing Doug only turns 29 a few more times!

Off to Mexico for a wedding tomorrow.  Back in a few days.

Don:  That's OK, in my house, means you better come up with something quick to make up for your stupidity.

Morning all.  Quick stop by as patient is going into the room.  No plans for today after I get done here, so I hope to get on the layout.  Got my corsican ram mount yesterday.  Hung him up on the wall over the TV in the den.  Looks like he is eyeing the buck on the opposite wall.  Anyway, hope it is a good one for everyone.

God Bless,

dennis
