Chief,

They were more than likely some lobbyists, on second thought if they didn't have a bunch of questionable ladies and money falling out of suitcases they were probably just rude people. Members of the House ?????

The thing that really T's me off with ordering from room service besides the hi-prices is the tip is tacked on regardless of the quality of food or service. Angry

Laz - how bout a pic of those two FEF's running the rounds?  Old MIlls, AMber Bock, Sam A's, and Miller Lite (for my buddy Jeff) as well as rootbeer for those who want it!  Tardis is ready, beacons are on and I see Doug, Sir James and RT have already found that special satellite tuner that Marty added for us last year Wink  Kevin left the door open for the coming weekend apparently?  We will get up to 50 on Saturday and then sleet/snow/ice storm for 3 day?  Yuck!  Chief - well done, sir.  Son got a 2nd place ribbon on his logic circuit computer, and that's great because most of the 1st and 2nd places were obviously done by the parents and he did like 95 percent of this except for some wire-stripping.  Okay, Tardis is ready!

 Chief,

Need to be passing around some of the those Southern Manners !  Can't believe how rude people can get.

Sure wish I could understand the logic or thinking of some of the people in decision level positions that would throw away an entire industry, rather than make some concessions.  I think of the agility that this country had 67 years ago, and if we were in that situation now, things would suredly have ended up different.

Things may become real different, remember Hudson, Packard, Kaiser, Oldsmobile, Mercury, et. al..

ErK ErK Erk Errrrrrr, SOMEONE STRANGLE THAT ROOSTER!!!!Banged Head

Morning.  Cold seems worse.  Well, here goes the prescription meds.  Call Dr. and drop in for a visit after I get back home.  The snow retreated from DC.  Some in Merryland.  Raining again.  Good for the cold.  Reb Army captured the President.  Then we saw who it was and let him go.  He mumbled something about wishing he was back in Texas.  Texican First Cav General said the Texicans don't want him either. Laugh  No in the room coffee to get started.  This is the PLAZA.  I'd rather stay in a Holiday Inn.  BTW: had wakeup call for 5:30 AM.  No call but I woke up at 5:30 sharp.  Yanks don't have built in clock.  Biggest problem is most of the staff DOES NOT speal English!!!!!  Later

Morning all!

Chief:  Scenes of rudeness, and I'm more important that you ness, more and more common.

I expected there was some underlying issue...finally comes out.  All this to keep unions out of the foreign factories in their districts.

Interesting to see the 9/11 charity numbers of US Automakers compared to the foreign automakers.  No one comes close to the big 3.

Trying to swing a party for almost 4-yo this weekend at Chuck E. Cheeses...Sent out invitations with pre-school friends a week ago Tuesday, asking for RSVP...Just heard from 2- parents...Yesterday, and they have previous plans, Teacher has been tracking the other two parents.  We may need to Tardis in some children.

Going to try some track weathering today.  I'm going with brushed acrylic, because I don't want to spray in the office.

I personally was against the bailout, but for those who are directly affected by the fallout, I empathize.  Ultimately, I have come to the conclusion that the politicians on both sides of the isle only have their own interest in mind.

Chief, I have a lapel pin from one of the professional organizations I belong to.  Looks just like one of those "Member of Congress" pins that opens doors.  I should have sent it your way.  The only way people in that town seem to acknowledge you is if they think you are of some importance, or have some influence.

Well, we are getting ready for kids to go to school and some shopping.  Hope everyone has a blessed day.

Morning all. Supposed to be super-cold today and then warm up over the weekend. The paper was full of model train layouts and shows open around the area. I know the Illinois Railway Museum is running a Santa train but I can't talk anyone other than the youngest into a venture into the cold wilderness.  Maybe I'll still just take my six year old Wink, you know, just for him of course. Congratulations to your son, Brutus!

I always thought Washington was more of a Southern town - I thought there would  be more 'hail to the Chief' on his state visit.  I built out a great extension to the layout but got a brainstorm overnight so I'll be adjusting it again. I think this is probably my most fun part of the hobby - rethinking the track layout and moving things around. I like having time 'off' though I still end up working. Curse of the computer I guess or more probably not being paid hourly... Big Smile

A friend of mine wanted to get a train like he remembered playing with when he was a kid.  He picked up an old 1654 Scout from an antique, along with a couple of cars and a caboose.  Runs really well.  He got some really old 0-27 track that just wasn't cutting it, so I ended up giving him some MTH realtrax and a transformer so he could set it up quickly around their tree.  His kids love it, and you could tell it was reminding him of when he was young.  I told him that toy trains do that...

I don't know enough about economics and politics to really get involved, but I am smart enough to know that 250,000+ jobs are at stake, which will effect us all.  I also see Honda, Acura, and Toyota's business model seems to work well.  More money goes back to the company and people keep employed.  I don't work for a union, obviously, but from what I have read on here, too much money goes back into employment services.  It's hard to take paycuts, but it hurts more to look for a job that everyone else wants, and can't find.  The weekly call into unemployment services hurts too...

Good morning all,

It is cold again in SE Indiana.  Wife went to a silent auction at the library and brought home two wreaths, one of which had a Polar Express theme to it.  That one stays at home, and the other is a present to a friend.  We went over Christmas lists and I have my marching er... shopping orders for the day.  Not much else to report.  I had the usual fare on the dining car at breakfast and sent it on to "Points East".  I have been reading with interest about the latest Southern invasion of DC.  I am not sure even the Chief could straighten the mess in DC or with Detroit.  State governor announced no pay raises for 2009.  Just thankful I have a good job.  Dennis, your insights into the status of medical care are quite illuminating.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C.

Brutus, the beacon is lit for tonight.  Leave the keys by the dash and I'll drive.  I need the practice for the work at the museum this weekend.

Morning all. Its been awhile.  Hope all are well. Iam not trying to ruffle any feathers so excuse my rant, SoapBox I just had to speak up. I work for GM. Our health insurance is basically non existent. We pay 100% of our doctor visits after the first two visits. What more can you cut from that? Pay a deductible, when I already have to foot the bill to take my kid in for an ear ache. As far as pay goes most of us (union brothers and sisters were willing to give up our job's bank and take a pay cut 5-6 dollars just not half. We heard  through our upper level union that they wanted us to be on a pay scale equal to the new transplants pay scale. 17- 19 an hour. When the old transplants make .50 cents more than us. We already made concessions in our last contract that would make our total compensation rate per hour equall to that of the transplants. Sorry to say I would rather loose it all and fight for something fair. Than basically give up half my pay. Some would say half is better than none well even with half my family and I will still loose all we have. And yes I do live withen my means, I only need 32 hours a week to pay all my bills. Again sorry for the rant but sometimes people need to here the whole story from someone affected by it, rather than from the news media.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is an icy and cold 28 degrees. Roads are bad. Going up to a cold 33 today with snow flurries.

Today is a busy day. I have all kinds of little tasks to do. Finally got the temperature sensor in the heat pump replaced. Looks like that was the problem. I hope.

It looks like our people in Washington would rather play their political party games than work for the people of this country, as they are suppose to. All you hear is Republicians vs. Democrats. This is not good. The outcome could really be a mess SoapBox

Dining car was here for breakfast. Usual menu.

Y'all have a great Friday............... Buckeye....TGIF

GOOD MORNING

I hope those alabama auto workers get a raise because it looks like they may have to support my three kids and their families.

Lite snow and 25 this morning,  warmer sun/mon with rain, and then back to cold again. No plans for today except it's our eat out day. No, no fancy place just family style meals. Have a good day....S.J.

Good morning from the left coast.  Four days of rain showers predicted for Southern California.  I'll believe it when I see it.  Lots of Christmas lunches etc. this week.  Getting fatter by the minute.

Chief, I have'nt stayed in Washington D.C, for years.  All the big cities have those overpriced hotel rooms now for downtown locations.  Actually, maybe $210 is cheaper than some. Those jerks that would not get out of your way must have been from somewhere up North.  I remember the type from the airport in Newark.  rudest people I ever met.  There are many good people from all over.  I should'nt just pick on Northeners.  Where I come from, a jerk is a jerk no matter where you see them.  I used to get that at a place where I used to work where people yelled all the time.  They said, oh don't mind him, he's really a wonderful guy.  I never bought it.  If a guy talks like an idiot and acts like an idiot, he's an idiot in my book.

Good Afternoon everyone. Chief, I heard that they had to evacuate some building in DC.  You didn't have any part in that did you?  Actually, heard it was a welder's torch that had set off smoke detectors.  Kind of slow right now.  Have some cases adding up for Monday, I just hope they wait till then.

Plan is to go home and work on the layout.  Also have to take the Christmas Photo with the kids this afternoon.  It should be fun.  Over the weekend, the church choir is doing a Christmas special on Sunday, but will be practicing on Saturday.  If I don't get called in, I'll be working lights.  At least I get a good seat.

I picked up a plywood blade for the circular saw so I can cut the plexiglass.  It is thick stuff, but I think I can do it well.  I will be using it for the control panel on the layout.  I plan on attaching the switch controls and perhaps the controls for the USC tracks.  I also plan on adding a diagram of the layout under the plexiglass so it shows through and I can use a grease pencil on it.  This way I can wright diverging routes, closed trackage, etc.  I know, overdoing it, but it'd be fun.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

God Bless,
Dennis

 Evening Folks,

Been trying to catch up on posts since I got home a few hours earlier than normal.  Been working some long days.  10 hours is a short day.  I'll be glad for the break.

Still have a ton of decorating and shopping to do. Going to staff Holiday Party tonight and then dinner with friends tomorrow night.  Sunday I will be building a train table for my nephew.  Using FasTrack for a simple loop with a few flea market yard sale cars and a Lionel Steamer.

Take care.

TGIF

USDA will never be the same.

Speaking of ten toes up, a homeowner confronted two armed robbers in his house this week.  The homeowner ordered them out.  As he tells it, they didn't move out the door fast enough and they had guns, so the shotgun that he was holding assisted in their quick exit.

Speaking of trains,  working on a grade crossing with four tracks.

TGIF indeed. It's never a good day when the youngest comes out of kindegarten looking strangely exposed in the zero-degree temps. "Why's your coat open, bud?" 'It broke."  "Broke?"  The zipper pull disintegrated. Spent the afternoon looking for a new coat.  Stores are full of spring stuff. What the hecks with that? Thank goodness I could both find and afford a new one. LOL. Off to dinner with some of the bride's friends...

Good Evening from snowy Southern Ohio

On night shift tonight and the guys are out doing rounds.  Should be a good night.  I finished a re-paint on a refer and caboose and they turned out OK.  I will put them behind the Franklin cars around the tree.

Dennis – Have you ever used a Roto Zip to cut the plexi?  Works good.  Reversing the blade on the saw helps too.  Leave the protective film on until you’ve  made your cuts or tape newspaper on the plexi to protect it from scratches.

Buckeye – TGIF!  Enjoy your weekend.

Kurt – Christmas songs are timeless and kick in memories, add smells of cookies baking and toy train smoke and it is a time machine!

Need to get to work.  I will check back in the wee hours

May God bless

Jim

Doug, if it is a nice jacket, you may be able to have it repaired.  I have done this.

RT, Mitch, thanks for the hints.  I will try, I don't have a Rotozip, but if this doesn't work well, I may get one.

God Bless,

Glad I've got a job.  Good day at work today - we sent out for Thai food which was great and somebody brought in donuts too!  Still not really hungry Shock  Maybe I'll have a little sandwich before bed or something.  Working tomorrow 6 hours and then nothing going on for the rest of the weekend - might get to run trains and also want to put up some drywall, it's been a while.
