Good early morning from a soggy Dixie. Rained hard all night....I know, had to drive in it a few times on trips to the hospital.
Sir James: Check the latch stud on the door that is having the problem and compare it to the door on the other side. I had a similar problem with my truck....there is a plastic collar that is on the stud. In my case, the plastic crumbled off and made the door so it wouldn't close correctly. They cost between 10 and 15 dollars at the autoparts store and only need a large alan wrench to change.
Hope everyone is having a great day.
God Bless
Dennis

HI GYZ,
32 and rainy here today. BIG NEWs here is I just gotta call and we have our first 2 hr delay, YEA for me!!! I'll take it. It's only rainy here so maybe turn to ice?
Watched my taping of EXTREME TRAINs last nite and thought it was pretty good. Loved the above shots of the UP 844 chugging down DA TRACKs, shoulda had more of that though. I will be running both the black and grey 844s tonite.
Stay FROSTY,

Hey Guys, I'm back for a quick stop. Through a discussion with another forum friend, I learned that I may not have been clear on something. When I mentioned about being disappointed in someone, they are not a member of this forum. It was someone I knew on a professional basis. As mentioned, never put faith in a person, they will let you down.
Otherwise, I don't have any issues with the fine folks here. I think we all have different backgrounds and are in situations that add to the variety of this group. It certainly makes things interesting and enjoyable.
God Bless,
dennis
thanks for the latch tip. Granny has the car as she sends two of the grandsons off to school each morning, but I will check it.

Good morning all,,
It is cold in SE Indiana. Worked on some more Christmas cards last night and paid some bills. Not having much luck on eBay, but then not trying too teribly hard either. Phone kept ringing off the wall. Bought gas for 1.36.9 a gallon yesterday. Could it possibly get below a dollar? Amazing. Brutus, thanks for the comments. They are big trains. I think that is why they are so popular with the kids. Dennis, no offense taken by your comment, and I understand completely on your view of people. Nothing on this earth is completely predictable (except maybe for the Lions losing...and I can say that as I used to be a Lions fan when I cared about American football). Spent some time on Second Life and learned some tidbits about Alaska. I had the usual fare on the dining car for breakfast this morning. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Morning. Stormy here. We are missing most of the bad stuff it seems. Going to leave around noon for DC. Back Sat. Have a good one.

Good Morning all from wet Southern Ohio,
Cheerios and oatmeal raisin cookies for breakfast. I finished the outside decorating yesterday, got a tire for oldest daughter’s van then went to Cincinnati for youngest daughter’s birthday. We had dinner at J Alexanders, pretty good. Youngest now 26!!!! I start night shift tonight so I plan a low key day. I may start decorating inside today, or at least get the boxes out of the basement.
GregM – check out the site usec.com. This is where I work and we are staffing up.
Jon – We have “old” TVs and someone told me not to watch the HD as it will ruin you in a hurry. I am not in a big hurry to go HD. There will be days when the TV does not even come on around here.
Chuck – We were beginning to worry about you. How is the knee? Are you making regular trips to the layout?
SJ – If Dennis’s tip does not work, does the inside and outside latch have the regular resistance or do they “flop and flip”? If flop and flip it may in the linkage. My bet is Dennis is right, with cooler temps things break.
Chief - Be careful in DC
May God bless
Jim
Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a cold and rainy 32 degrees. Everything is freezing. Looks like a big glazed donut outside. Only going up to 36 today.
Today is a busy day. I have a bunch of paperwork to do and odd jobs around the house. Wife is working me, as I am feeling better. Knee is better. I have to keep it exercised. Likes to stiffen up. Tomorrow, I will go downstairs and run trains. For sure.
Dining car was here for breakfast. Cheerios.
Y'all have a great Thursday.
Chuck
Morning all. Cold here - supposed to get far colder tomorrow ... Hear that big whoosing sound? It's all the politicos falling over themselves to distance themselves from our gov'r. Great articles, Mike! Glad to 'see' Brent! Hope those with the crud are feeling better. Working through some conflicts at church - Dennis's post hits home. Glad to have friends here. Worked on layout last night. Pulled up the trolley loop, Experimenting to see what I can do with extending the run around from the yard to the aerodrome. Need to share a photo - if I can get the camera to ever work again... to ask for advice.

Good Morning
Oh boy I'm cold, probably won't feel warm till march. let's see I think thats about six months away. Yep it's six months allright. Wife and car are home now and the door is still latched so I am going to leave it alone till son can look at it saturday. When I messed with it last night it seemed to be the latch itself, when I would push it closed(down) it would pop back up. In other words no "click". Thats the best I can describe it. We have sun today but below freezing till sunday. We have a different kind of church problem like many others i'm sure, money. Due to lost jobs and homes they had to close the K/12 school,, teachers and church secretary laid off probably for good. Pastor is taking some payless paydays but wants to stay. of course his family is getting food and clothes and with the school closed his pay is coming around. I guess plenty of problems for all, one way or another.
S.J.
Afternoon all!
Hey maybe that Senate seat will end up on EBay! Not that you're not doing an excellent job Doug! Cockroaches don't scatter that fast.
Great first dress rehersal! Mics organized, and working. Need to sharpen up some eq's, but audio is up and ready! One more dress rehersal, and 2-shows. I am trying to use some of our babysitter's time to watch the kids while I do sound next week...Hope this works.
Kurt
Yeah Sir James, lots of folks hurting right now. We have been having some discussions at church and the pastor has mentioned during services. If you don't have an income, we know you can't pay. But, God has only asked for the firstfruits (10%) as the tithe. If you have more and pay more, great...it is a blessing to give. We also have a good number of folks who will direct some monies and efforts through the church to help out those in need. Our church is somewhat unique as we have about 80% that also attend Sunday School, and most tithe, which is not the case in many places. We also have a strong outreach to help the community.
Well, it was a tough case this morning. Real sick patient that makes us use the old noggin a bit more. We had a discussion on how the more specialized surgeries used to get referred to large university hospitals. But now, unless the person has good insurance, they are done here. We find ourselves getting patients refused at other institutions here with no money, but we give them the same care as if they were our family. Often, because the surgery is very intense and requires a lot of specialized equipment and supplies, the bill would be better than $250,000.00, but they don't pay a dime. Many of the cases I do these days I had not done since school some 20 years ago. In the end, folks get the same quality care as if they did go to a big university hospital, but don't have to travel that far. After all, we have all trained at the big places.
On the train front, my purchases should be here tomorrow. Wife ought to love this. It just seemed like a great deal, so I bit. I picked up the Disneyland 35th anniversary steam engine for $99 mint. I saw the same locomotive on another auction sell for more than $350. Not sure what I will do with it. Sure is pretty. May just have to find a place on a shelf. Also picked up the holiday music car for $20.
Well, I am going to take a nap before the next case. I'm only working on 3.5 hours of sleep and have another full day left of cases. Hope everyone is having a good one.
Hilariously,Kurt, someone else got that idea first - and there's several on eBay now. Boy, I bought the bride a new digital camera - the box talks about this software CD it comes up, the directions refer to the software - but there's no CD. Back it'll go. Sigh. It's also interesting - far more 'capable' than the one that just broke - but amazingly, even cheaper-built. Sigh.
Thanks Jim, but according to the web site
Will check back again.
Evenin' boys. Soggy & cold in the MASON-DIXON region. The weather is soooo depressing..."How depressing is it?"...so depressing that we can't even muster up troops to thwart back invading forces from the south. Actually thinking of joining the other side to get milder weather...
Sorry to hear you're still looking, Greg.
Just got done taking dog for a sooogggy mile walk. Good thing saw 5 deer two buck in pasture all running having fun. Residential area so can't hunt. Part of the same bunch me and BRO throw and hit with snow balls. Trains later tonite.
Selling a Senate seat on Ebay....What a hoot!!!! But then again, maybe I could trying selling the mayor's position in Roseyville. Nah, it is not worth .
Ran trains last night and have come to the conclusion that a Lionel Docksider's flanges must be just a fraction of a fraction of an inch larger than my other engines. It has trouble going through switches. Non of the other engines have the problem.
I will say one thing foor the Docksider, it puts out a lot of smoke for a small engine. What did Lionel do different this time?
Speaking of trains, did you know that railroads do not allow bicycle/pedestrian paths to cross railroads unless they are part of a guarded highway crossing. They are making the trail developers go under or over for safety reasons.

So the Chief is going to DC? I hope he gets things straightened out down there. Need someone with a little common sense.
That's interesting! Beacon is on Brutus. Hope to work on the layout whilst the bride goes out to a prayer meeting... This is a great time of year - time to work on the layout - obscure Christmas movie on in the background... Oh wait, almost forgot the Bears are on. Brutus, does the Tardis get the NFL Network?
Evening all,
Cooler (38 degrees) and rainy here.
Have just about finished my train control board. The goal is to have the layout operational by Christmas. This table has been a two year project for me, and is finally getting near the running stage! I think even Chief beat me on the construction time.
The most difficult part for me was finding a way to attach the control board to the table in a manner that looks nice but is easy to remove, and doesn't require a degree in cabinet making to make. I ended up making some support arms using two pieces of 1"x4"x32" clear poplar, adding two 1"x4"x6" uprights at the end, and then bolting these to two joists under the table. They are flush mounted against the bottom of the joists so the arms are cantilevered. This way the weight of the control board on the front of the arms presses the back up against the bottom of the joists. These arms can be unbolted if needed. The biggest issue (since I don't have a wood shop) was getting some clean notches cut in the arms so they fit around the "L" girder under the table and the decorative banding board around the table.
Yesterday and today were "finishing" days with several coats of wipe on poly coating. Glad that it was warm enough to open the windows.
Tomorrow the control board will be assembled and then it's time to mount the toggle switches for the blocks and the O22 turnout control levers.

Fife you don't need to to join the other side! Warmer air is arriving shortly.

The Chief in DC? We need him here in Springfield! Birds, would putting a hinge on the control panel work?
WEZ HERE!!!! Rain and floods and more rain. We drove up I 85 to miss the storms going up I 95. We left later than planned so the rains would be ahead of us. We caught them north of Richmond. Horrible drive. Stopped in Fredricksburg and shopped to kill time. Well, we caught the heavy rains again before DC. Thank God for navigation system. High dollar big shot hotel right up from Capital. Have only a couple of channels on the TV and pay for internet service. Rather be at Holiday Inn. Chat later.
Good evening
No news of interest tonite, so just checking in. Have banilla as usual and some chocolate, we will have to see if RT has any goodies. OK Brutus fire up the thingy, S.J.
Watched My Name is EARL. Great show then went down and ran trains for an hour, NO PILE UPs. Had a minor derailment with the Black FEF because of front truck not on track right, but all else ran great. Had some OL MILs tonite on account of weather usually down at WAYNEs for YUENGs and WINGs. Just as good ran trains instead.
cnw1995Birds, would putting a hinge on the control panel work?
Birds, would putting a hinge on the control panel work?
Doug,
I thought about a hinge, but I couldn't come up with a way to attach everything and achieve both the functionality and look I wanted.
I'll put some photos up on Sunday when the board is together.
Wellllll, that's that. Chief has taken the Capitol. But after a couple days of $25 parking garages, I'll bet he'll give it back.
Been working on the layout this evening, planting trees and vines. Haven't run trains in 2 weeks due to viaduct construction...almost done.
Evenin' Fellas.Fife - you should have called. SusieQ was out for the evening at a Sorority Alumna meeting and I could have trucked down to DC for some dinner. Spoke with the invader from the South tonight. Always good to hear from him.Since I didn't have to go fend off the Southern Invasion, I decided to get some work done in the train room...1. Measured, and cut 5 tunnel portals2. Measured and cut new base for a bridge3. Realigned the Gorge tracks - eliminating the steel under girder bridge (it did not turn out nice)4. Realigned the track coming up from the first level - this is going to look much better now5. Measured and cut a new retaining wall/tunnel portal for the transition track6. Rebuilt the abutement for one side of the double pratt truss bridgeI've been doing some of this for about a week now and really like how things are coming along. I haven't been able to run trains for 2 weeks because of the gorge realignment and probably have another week to go before they'll be running again. I'm trying to get one section of the layout completed so I can take some pics for the CPI.
Dear President Lincoln, I believe the Capital is under seige again. A major snowstorm is heading up the coast and should hit Washington. You can be assured that the rascals will be packing up and heading home.
Ran trains, No wrecks tonight. I have a Lionel Lionmaster SD80 and if you want a quality locomotive, this thing has been awesome for the last four years of hard running pulling my pig train.
Had good conversations with Shake and Bake, 88 [Brent] who is working his behind off, and Fifey. A pizza from room sevice [great supreme but high $$] and Coke Zero from machine [could not believe the price, cheaper than at Roseyville convience store]. At $210 plus tax per night, you'd think you'd get better service and amenities. BTW: almost got into with three guys in lobby. They stopped in front of the elevators and blocked us from going by [we had laptop bag and luggage] and stood there talking like we did not exsist. Pam tried to get by and they igonred her. That is when the REB stepped up. They moved. Even Pam did not call me down this time. Time for bed. 7 AM meeting downstairs to go to breakfast at the USDA "South Building". USDA, but we don't have to get up with the rooster. NOW, the rains are moving out fast BUT snow tomorrow by daylight. Breaking News on TV: UAW just screwed the auto manufacturers [as usual] from bailout. Don't give some, do without.
Good night. Sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite.
[don't tell Fifey, he and all you taxpayers are paying for my mileage, room, food, tips, internet service and parking ]
PS: Buckeye, we will use the Metro around town and the 4 Runner [4X4] to get home.
