Morning all from cold (34°F) wet Southern Ohio

A lot of the schools were on a delay this morning for black ice, I would rather have snow.  I slept in this morning because I start night shift tonight.  Cheerios and Coffee for breakfast.

Chief -  I’ll pass on the more substantial breakfast you recommend.  My annual physical for work is in a couple of weeks and I don’t want the values to be too bad.  Bride is a RN and goes over the results with a fine tooth comb.

Laz – I like black powder as well.  I bought a .50 CVA percussion from a friend who tried to build it from a kit and had it totally messed up.  I stripped it down and instead of browning the barell I blued it and the stock is blond stained maple.  Different looking but neat I think.

Looking forward to starting the car exchange.  I’ve got the gon all ready to go.  I took a few going away shots.

May God bless

Jim

DOUG, DA BEARS gotta shore up the big D.  Filled  with lots o holes.  But as you said still in first.

JIM, my flintlock is from a Thompson Center kit.  I built it with my class back in 85, when it was still ok to do that kinda stuff in school.

Morning all!  Hope everyone is having a good start to a short week.  I bit under the weather today and hoping to recover quickly as I have a big day of cases tomorrow.

So, I mention to the wife that Lionel has made a Auburn University car.  She wants me to get one for her mother's husband for Christmas!  Isn't it just like a lady to roll her eyes at another package delivered by UPS and tells the kids....It's just another train for daddy!  and now she wants me to order one.  Oh well.  Actually, I did take delivery of a few more pieces of rolling stock.  Got a NYC cattle car with trainsounds (cattle).  Also got a work caboose and some other items.  And after all that, she wants to know what to get me for Christmas!  Maybe a Lionel Hobby Shop?

Welcome back 681!  Also, welcome to some new faces around here.  My schedule is a bit scattered, so not sure of who has recently joined us.  Regardless, it is always a good place to come visit.

God Bless,

Dennis

Hi Chief,  Condolences for the loss of your friend. Sorry you had trouble with the MTH switch.  Sounds like a bummer.  I don't use any of the MTH track or switches.  All I have are engines mainly and a few signals from them.  I have had some problems but no worse than the stories you hear about other companies.  I really like the DCS features so I'm sticking with that.  I know other guys like TMCC with Lionel.  I just don't want two systems.  I use Ross Custom Switches and sold all my old Lionel 072.  I love the Ross.

Dbaker, since the resets did not bring the occilating or flashing headlights back, I need to contact MTH Bob for further discussion but I don't have his E mail address.  Maybe he will see this.

Doesn't say anything about whistle but it does have smoke a Boxcar, gondola with 2 wire reels, and caboose has 60 X 40 fast track and powermax transformerThumbs Down and smoke fluid. Oh I missed a plastic bridge and one 2 sided billboard.

Guess lionel is trying to get out there to other companies.

Evenin' boys.  Had to qualify with the shotgun (yearly) this morning, and shot a 100 (first time in 23 years).  Guess whose target is right next to our second grader's spelling test on the fridge.  Wifey asked how long she has to look at that; howzabout 'til after the boyfriend's stop over...?

Came home and got back to work on Cumberland Viaduct.  So far so good.

 Good evening !

Doug, Did Mom have any influence on that job selection?? Shy

Fife, now I'm not a sportsman but just how big of a target do you use with a shotgun?  I would think it would be rather large.  Score of 100 --  rather good I'd say.

I think So. Cal is going to be making the news again REAL soon!  We have projections of rain coming in real sooon, like late tonight and lasting till Sat.  Suppose to be getting between .5 and 4 inches within the next 2 days.  Of course that will have BIG impacts in the Yorba Linda area, where the fire just rolled thru and took out 120 homes.  Nothing there to protect the others, doesn't look good.  Difficult to hold a mountain back with sandbags.

Had some good news today, picked up a couple of school accounts.  Seems their misfortune is good for our business.  Once we have the account in most cases we have it for long term.  So that is good.

Had some conversations with the leaders of the train club, seems things are changing, slowly but changing.  They asked if I would reconsider, think I might.  Their are more good guys there than difficult ones, and I do miss the commradeship.

Spent some time going through the 2008-2 Lionel catalog today, certainly can see how theyve changed their marketing focus.

Heading out, hope everyone has a great evening.

Don

dbaker - Silhouette; roughly 3 foot tall by 2 foot wide. 2 rounds kneeling, 2 rounds standing from 25 yards; 4 rounds standing from 15 yards, 2 close combat loads from 7 yards.  Oh, and there are time limits thrown in too.  A lot of my cohorts give up their certification because they don't like handling the Remington.  Not me; I don't care what planet you're from, the chamber sound is universal.WinkThumbs Up

Great shooting, Fife!  It's funny, Don, fhere might be something to that - they just got back from that store - together. Wink - they spent the equivalent of a Lionel starter set  - watching the Saints - Packers gives me an idea. Brutus, let's swing by New Orleans tonight - beacon is on!

Back from the lake house.  Got half of it done.  Rest will wait.  Did get the outlet fixed that was the big trouble.  Why previous owner had not fixed, who knows.  Got that done and 8 other outlets went back to work.

Fifey, Frankie shoots 100's a lot.  Only difference is, he shots all the time.  Also has fully automatic .223.  He is on the SRT team [SWAT].  Loves it.  Think it is like Airborne.  They train all the time when not working drugs and etc.  Depending on what is going on, they workout each day of their shift for one hour.  If busy when going on [shift moves to different hours as needed], they workout one hour before going home.  If not busy early, do that before hitting the road.  He had to get permission [not hard to get from his SGT.] to go with me as he was not close enough to respond if called out.  He is on call ALL the time.  If "drugs" does a raid, SRT does the actual raid.  If it is a buy somewhere in a parking lot, they hide in this ratty looking van with ladders on top.  When the drugs guy gives the word, they bail out [three officers on each side of vehicle. one on each side with baseball bat like that takes the windows out ], they extract and do the take down.  Guy tried to run them over the other night.  Ended up damaging 4 cars in parking lot but they got him.  Nice to be young and foolish.  He told me tonight, they would have to give him a 15% raise before he would leave SRT.

Tired and popcorn time.  Later

Dbaker, thanks for the E mail address I needed.  Hope you can reconcile your differences with the club and reach a happy solution for all of you.

Fife, I don't know anything about target shooting with shotgun except maybe skeet shooting.  The only kind I ever fired was an old 12 gauge single barrel, single shot job that my dad bought just before the freeze went on for buying guns at the beginning of WWII.  It sat in the closet until I was old enough to use it.  Dad never fired it and I was the first one that did.  It was full choke.  Went rabbit and squirrel hunting a couple of times with it.  I think my brother finally wound up with it.  It seems like it would be hard to miss a target at close range with bird shot.

Well another night....494 is on and turning Brutus....

Earlier my son put about 50 drops of smoke fluid in the new Christmas Loco.  Needless to say it did not smoke and was a mess.  After taking it apart and cleaning up the mess..it smokes again......

Morning all. Up early as couldn't sleep last night as got a chest cold and every time I start to fall asleep I get woke up having to cough. I did get a little sleep when I went to bed with a bunch of pillows behind me so I could basically sleep sitting up in bed.

I have thermostat set at 70 and I'm freezing so I have a temp but its breaking as it comes and goes.

Waiting for about 6:30 so I can call off from work don't want to take a chance and give it to our patients that we feed.

Probally got it there as it is. But don't want to spread it.

Not much else happening guess I'll go make some breakfast.

Morning all!

Fife:  Nice Shootin' Tex...  uh Fife!  Make sure you tell the BF's that the last 4 rounds were scored with a 3mph lateral moving target.

Brutus:  Nice!

Laz:  Didn't go hunting...never been.  Of all the things my father taught me that wasn't one of them.  No aversion to it, just never had the opportunity to go.

Good morning all,

It is dry and cold in SE Indiana with temps in the 30s.  Was busy all last evening but can not remember doing anything in particular.  Watched a little of "Dancing with the Stars".  Did some eBaying and not much else.  Gas is as low as 1.54 at one place yesterday.  I had the regular fare on the dining car this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mornin' boys.  Mornin' English.  Sliver o' sun and 45 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Chief - Our Tactical Unit is the hardest SOD to get into it.  Many fail, only a few get in.  Our snipers are amazing shots.  Trouble with any SWAT team, it takes on average 45 minutes to get them coordinated and in position to do their thing.  Not too many crisis situations go that long...

Morning.  Had some rain.  Fair now.  Still below normal temp for Nov. but better than yesterday.  Slept gooooooood.  Now got to get breakfast going.  Lazy day.  Will do a Town Hall visit.  Got to get one to the Christmas trees down from attic before Pam gets home this evening.  Do Burg and I will sleep in the "dog house". Laugh

Fifey, hope you don't ever have to use it.  Good shooting though.  Just had two Johnston Co Deputies [neighboring Co] shoot a guy.  Shot him in the head.  They say he shot at them and they retured fire.  Killed his Dalmatian dog too.  Neighbors and friends say he did not shoot.  He did have shotgun in hand but they say he was going upstairs to put it up when deputies came to his door.  Wife had just been transported by EMS [nothing domestic].  Friends say he was an hunter and fisherman and not violent.  Sure hope the shotgun had been fired.  Being investigated by SBI.  Family now is saying they will hire their own investigator.  Sad either way.  You have only a split moment to make that call.  Good luck.

Chief - Hold judgement until all sides are interviewed.  Unfortunately, the PD members are "gagged", so the MEDIA only has the "victim's" friends/family to interview for their "LIVE! LOCAL! LATE BREAKING!" segments

Morning all. Ran trains last night whilst web surfing and watching / listening to our new NASA channel. Watching live space ops is sure dull - one check-list after another. Where's the aliens? Where're the ray guns?

My CPD friends say they never want to fire their weapon because it leads to all sorts of internal meetings, forms, interviews...

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is cold and windy. 28 degrees. Only going up to 34 today, with some snow later. We have no snow on the ground now. Lots of snow up north.

Today is a good day. Feeling well. I have a few things to do around the house and then, I will relax. I need to run trains.

Dining car was here for breakfast and left for " Points West".

Y'all have a great Tuesday.

Good Morning All, Good morning Chief. Wet 34 this morning, we have no snow on the ground but some places nearby do. Tv news said some commutes were  slick this morning. I got into CTT last nite but still have a long way to go, It looks like it went on a diet for the holidays  but I'm sure it will still be a good issue. Out of respect for our forum members who have a VERY dangerous job I will not comment on the shooting, especially since we were not there. Where ever you are have a great day...S.J.

Morning all!  Took some dayquil to make it through the day.  Have a case to do in a short bit.  I hope it doesn't get too involved.  Regardless, looks like a long day.

Fife, have a good friend who retired from SWAT.  Used to get teased by fellow members for always grabbing the 870 Wingmaster.  His response was "I don't have to aim, just point!"  As to snipers, have some friends that do that with spec. ops.  They do drug intervention and "varment control".  One does missions in mid east, but we won't get into those.  Takes a special kind to look into the eyes.  God bless em.

Chief, hope things work out for the PD, but regardless, something they have to live with.  Always a shame when it works out that way.  Funny thing, my pager is the exact opposit numerically from some special page that alerts all swat members in SW Georgia.  Found this out from several folks who have tried to get ahold of me and they get numerous calls from Swat members checking in.  Glad to hear they are out there.....in case.

Well, hope everyone has a blessed day.
