Morning all. Sunny and warm here today in Chicago. Super-high security at the Federal plaza buildings as I tried to walk by - not sure why. The city is sure planning on a big crowd for tomorrow's election 'event' - I am second-guessing my decision not to cancel my class even though our building is right smack in the middle of things - we'll see who shows up. I voted early last week - waited an hour - because I thought I'd be at work tomorrow from before-to-after the polls closed.  Hope the arm gets better soon, RT. Glad you're feeling a bit better, Doug.

HI GYZ,

Got  a break and I'm eating lunch today.  54 and overcast here too.  Gotta turn over vegtable garden and add compost tonite or patch roof again.

JON, sounds good for bus duty but I'm the ONLY GUY on duty.  I have 7 females that need me.Shock

MITCH,  we still have some birds here and thats why I still enjoy hunting them and refuse to go for turkey.  They make up a good soup and sometime put em on the grill.

GOOD MORNING

I went to the Doc for routine check in this morning. Everything on course. Blood results later this week. I don't expect any problem.

Doug there is a reason for all the police activity, but I can't talk about it on here.

I have my friends new 736 to play with and its waiting for me but I think I will unwind first as my wife dragged me to Kmart as soon as I got home from the Doc. Nice and warm but we had storms overnite that seem to be gone now..Enjoy your monday........S.J.

Heres whats just coming across our tv local news at noon (the station is WIS)

CHAPIN, SC (WIS) - The South Carolina Highway Patrol says two teenagers were hit by a train.

It happened Sunday just before 9pm.

Authorities say 19-year-old Daniel Douglas of Chapin was driving on Lynn McCartha Road, just 15 miles west of Columbia, when he did not yield and collided with a CSX train. He was taken to the hospital.

Joseph Fellers, 18, also from Chapin, was the passenger in the truck.

Right now we do not know the condition of either teenager. We will continue to follow this story and bring you the latest as it comes to us.

What does it take to get this out. Why do people think a train can stop or they can beat a train beats me I gues we'll always have this and its a shame.

Good Mornin', Ya'll,

Tried in vain this weekend to catch up on Forum reading.  Temps in the mornings down in the 20s lately, about 5 weeks early, though we're suppose to have 50s during the daytime this week for serious yardwork.  Leaves are about 2/3 down.

Halloween weather was perfect.  Temps in the pm were in the high 50s, crystal clear, and the stars were out doing their thing.  About 50 little ones kids showed up at the door, but as usual I bought way too much candy.  Whatever will I do with it all? Whistling  Granddaughter dressed up like a princess (appropriate) and was very proud of her gigantic pumpkin I helped carve.  The annual get together at my house was great because everyone pitched in to help out.  Served beef stew with fresh Scala bread.....simple, but it must have been good because everyone was chowing down.  One of the Dads assumed TOT duty at the front door and gave away all my Kit Kats. Banged Head

Stupidly volunteered to clean out the fridge yesterday.  Wife must have known something I didn't.  Big mistake......took forever because "someone" seems to keep spilling anything and everything in there, then only cleans up the places you can see.  When you remove all the shelves and drawers, you find congealed stuff that takes forever to remove.  Wonder if beer is a good solvent for this stuff.

RT.....sounds like too many 12 oz. curls did your arm in.  Switch hands. Whistling

The Ohio chapter of the lame brain leg society seems to be progressing nicely. Thumbs Up

DougDG.....seems that crud is hanging on way too long.  Prayers you lick that thing, in a good way.

Brutus.....glad Chewey is making progress with the baths and the prednisone.  Just when you get that cleared up and remove the cone, the dog will begin the process all over again. Banged Head

Chief.....I thought you folks down South bathed in the lake.  Just watch out for fishing hooks. Whistling

DougM.....sounds like things are settling down and moving in the right direction. Thumbs Up

Laz......I've got to applaud you for your humaneness with the bird escapade. Thumbs Up

Dennis.....your hiring process seems more stringent and selective than the Presidential campaign. Banged Head

Mitch......hope the open house at the school was a big success, though few will truly ever know what it took to make it happen so "smoothly."  Game, set, match Mitch.

Kurt......my wife has the same problem with the Halloween candy.  She sat there last night blaming me while attacking the leftovers.  Should have hidden the leftover candy in the garage beer fridge's freezer because she never looks in there. Big Smile

MikeC.....once you are ordained, does that mean you are in the running for rookie of the year?  We should all pitch in and "help" you write some sermons. Whistling

Rich......so the Harley performed flawlessly for the Orlando trip?  What finally was the problem?

Jon.......you think you've got trouble with deer at night on the highways?  Throw in some 700 pound mooses (Wink) for good measure.....just North of me, it's the drivers who become the trophies.

Brent.....been trying to get the wife to back off on getting rid of MY car and getting something else.  She can't seem to bask in the sunlight of no car payments, no huge depreciation expenses, and low insurance and excise taxes,  She's convinced that we'll walk out of the house one morning and find the car sitting in pieces in the driveway, though I haven't had to put a nickel in repairs for the past year.

Fife......are you wearing your crash helmet when you play driver's ed instructor?  My wife went out only one time with each of our children and then delegated that parental responsibility to me, fifty hours of time behind the wheel for each.  They had to pass my test before they were allowed to take THE test.  "Depends," Valium, and a flack jacket help too.

Loved all the Halloween photos in SPF........thanks guys for sharing.  Buddy of mine who lives in Salem MA. made the huge mistake Friday night leaving work late in Worcester MA and then trying to get home.  Took him 3 hours because of all the Halloween traffic that was backed up for 3 miles in all directions going into Salem for the Haunted Happenings.  The beautiful weather stoked the usual mega attendance over the top.  He should have tried taking a boat and approach Salem from the Atlantic side.

Later, gang.

Actually Jack the carts I tug, pull, and push at work to carry food up and empty dishes back down are the culprit as they are monsters at times to maneuver. Also I don't do 12oz curls anymore basically gave it up about 20 years ago just couldn't see spending all that money just to make me have to get up and go half a dozen times a night lol.

Just got Historic Rail in the mail ( they can keep it most items in there I can get else where for 25% to 50% less than there prices. ) sent them an email asking them to remove me from all there mailing list. 905 of the trains are HO or n scale and the few O gauge are over priced. Hoggwarts express and polar express both at $299.99 and I've been seeing them all over for less than $250.00

Well need to get ready to goto the doctors this afternoon ( check up after the heart cath with my cardiologist) Get to maybe have some answers to the disapearing blockage. Whistling

Afternoon!

Up to 78 today have some wind here (nothing like the gusts of HOT AIR from downtown this AM LaughWhistling) and mostly cloudy.  Had to tear apart and find an object in the vents in a Hyundai this morning (3 hours worth).  Some parents should tell their kids that vents in a car are NOT the piggy bank.  At least they could've deposited move than a penny!!!  Then had to chase a "ghost" problem in a Caravan - of course, found nothing wrong and sent it back to the sales people.

Jack - as for the Harley, we took the company car to O-town, me and my 2 kids (29 & 16), so the Harley is resting comfortably at the dealers.  Tomorrow will be week #2 and no phone call.  I may say something soon, like take it back and/or sell me a DynaGlide for a better price.  Made payment #2 on Friday, so far $700 into the bike + insurance.  Things could get interesting soon on that front.

No real train progress this weekend and Saturday back at the LTS.  Will have to pick up some more Fastrack and another 153IR unit to trigger the crossing gates.  Might be time for more "action" accessories for the layout.  Mrs Devil enjoys the other things that move (other than the trains themselves).

Onward and upward gents....see ya later!

PS: John Bakeer: I see the 5th of November is coming and was wondering if you could enlighten us Colonials about Guy Fawkes day.....I did a little research after seeing V for Vendetta and thought it quite interesting.  Just wondering if it is a "holiday" of sorts, with bonfires, fireworks and such.  Thanks!

Well, we have one more day.  Hope the good guy pulls it out....I'll leave the one up to your thoughts, but I do not believe we should head in a socialist way.  Never has a country taxed its way into prosperity.

God Bless,

Dennis

Don’t worry Dennis, the good guy is going to win tomorrow. WinkBy the way, since 1913, with the ratification of the 16th Amendment to the Constitution, we’ve had a progressive income tax system in this country, whereby the wealthy are expected to pay more in taxes and, in effect, subsidize those with less income. In fact, the first tax rates were set well above the average family income, so that only the very rich payed any income tax.

Now, by your logic, I guess this means the United States has been operating in a "socialist way” for the past 95 years.

Sure has ruined our country, hasn’t it? SmileC’mon, the American people are not fools. They know silly rhetoric when they hear it.

You can call it what you want, but our 95 year history of sharing the wealth has made America the great and successful nation it is today.

Not to get into politics but the right guy will eventually kill the 16th amendment with either a flat tax or fair tax (which I support).  If the "wrong guy" gets in, then we can kiss the middle class good by as all he supports (other than "spread the wealth") is class war fare plain and simple.

OK, the political rant is over and if I understand it correctly there is not to be political discussion on this forum.

Web dudes/dudettes or Bob K.: if this indeed is the case & I have "over run" this rule, feel free to erase the comments as I have NO problem with that decision.

Well all went well at DR.s office today. Infact he took me off of 2 medicines and said the other can go also eventually as I really don't need them but need to back off the medication slowly not to come off everything at once. Smile,Wink, & Grin. He also said everything look fine and was wondering why I needed to see him. Confused I asked about the 2 different heart caths one showing a blockage and one not and asked how one could disappear and he said I can't answer what the other doctor saw or didn't see. I can only answer what this latest report shows. This has wife and I with a lot of questions now as he also asked how long I've been taking all this medication and also did I ever have a heart attack and stuff like that which I told him 2+ years on meds and no on heart attack as I never actually had a heart attack I also asked why I had this defibrillator and he said I don't know why you have it.

Other than that been a very quiet and peacefull day. Not to much going on. Getting ready for dinner and then to bed as have work tomorrow.

Brutus opening the butter pecan tonight. Will turn beacon on once I get out of the shower. Just don't let SJ drive no loop de loops okay?

Rich--I was wondering how you were coming with the HD and then I saw an earlier post about it  still being in the shop, dang....  If you can lean on them REAL hard take a look at the new Road Glide, it's brand new for '09 and if I were to ever buy HD that would be at the top of my list.  I did get in a fantastic ride in this afternoon--about 70 miles and we tied a record high of 76, felt good Approve  I'm never ready for the end of riding season but I do hear the trains calling my name  "dust us off, we are ready" Laugh

Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 70s.  Did leaves in the yard for two hours today.  Had the day off but was on two conference calls this afternoon.  Jack, I am not sure what you meant by "ordained".  Do you have me confused with one of the other regulars?  Dennis, I have to applaud the use of movie profits for building soccer fields.  A worthier endeavor I could not think of.  I am glad I attended the movie if for no other reason. With apologies to Doug M, do as they as do in Chicago and vote early and often tomorrow.  Although politics are not allowed here (and I would be the last one to stir things up in that area), I see no harm in encouraging everyone to vote.  No matter which "side" wins, it will be an historic occasion.  Brutus, fire up the Tardis please.  The beacon is on.  I had the usual fare on the dining car this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

EDW, your argument would have standing if we were only talking about income tax.  When one looks at their taxes, and the amount that has been added since 1913, we pay a lot more taxes of all sorts.  The tax system when first placed was not to subsidize those with less income, it was for the federal government to provide military protection, and for a basic framework of the government institution.  Also, 95 years of "Sharing the wealth" is not what makes this country great and successful, it is the hard working, innovative and entreprenual spirit of most of the people.  It is said that "A democracy cannot stand the test of time, as once the people learn that they can vote themselves benefits from the government, you will eventually have more taking than those paying can afford"......I hope they are wrong.

As in Rich's statement Bob, feel free to delete if I have violated the rules.

Onto some train related items, a nurse who used to work on the heart team and has since transfered to Lifelink came to visit today.  Seems her grandfather who worked for Seaboard Coast Line and then Southern Railways passed away recently. ( yeah, death tax)  anyway, he has a number of books and things from his days on the railroad.  They also have some Lionel trains.  She wants to give everything to me as they want them to go to someone who will appreciate them.  I was humbled.

I also scored a MTH "Rescue 2" car in honor of the FDNY guys who died in 9-11.  I paid more than I would normally pay for a box car, but this one is kind of special....Rich understands.  Anyway, looking forward to getting it.

God Bless,

Dennis

Jon, wasn't it a beautiful day? 70 miles sounds like a great ride. RT, glad you're off some meds. Sounds like your ticker is in better shape. I think Jim 'Stur-fish' is close to being ordained as a deacon.  Congratulations on that 'legacy', Dennis. Can't think of a better steward to care for that Seaboard stuff and those old trains. Let us know what papers and trains you get.

When I voted last Thur, the staff actually reminded each of us - 'now, you can't do this again Tues.' 'Remember you can't vote again.'  LOL - must be the Chicago way. My students are mad at me for not canceling class tomorrow - they're closing most Loop offices at 3.  Dishwasher guy coming out Thur.

Hope to watch some football and run some trains. The middle boy goes back to school tomorrow... Beacon is on!

I vote for no more politics on the coffee pot.  Feelings are easily hurt.

Tardis is ready - gotta make it an early night so I can get up early tomorrow.

Wife's uncle is in the hospital.  He apparently dropped dead, they revived him, and now he's on life support with no real hope.  Everyone is taking it pretty well as he has been very sick for a long time.

Contractor will replace some siding on Wednesday.  Meanwhile, the little darlings apparently paintballed my front porch.  Is this stuff water soluble?

Good evening,

So much for putting tables together for the Christmas layout at the Library.  The guy with the plans never showed up.  We had a nice 45 minute chat and called it a day.  He didn't answer his cell phone either so maybe he had a problem.  We'll see what happens tomorrow evening.

Weather was cloudy most of the day, but cleared up about 2 hours before dark.

Evening all Town Board over.  Voted in an ABC store [State gives Counties rules and then they run the liquor stores].  Some African-American Church resistance.  My Church folks told me, "If I don't want to use it, I don't have to go there."  Actually better than grocery stores and restaurants.  Those sell beer and wine and do not enforce the rules of don't sell to anyone already intoxicated.  You can drink in the gro's parking lot and drink in the restaurant.  ABC, can not consume on their property.  Hours are more restictive than gro and restaurants.

Politics.  Not happy with either person.  Both not good.  Pray the good Lord looks after us, "no matter who wins".

Raining right along.  Nowtime for popcorn and then sleep.  BTW: did get to finish seeing the movie Hitman on MAX Demand.  Think they were trying to "out do" the Bourne movies.

Good night.  Sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite.

I know we aren't suppose to talk politics, but I HAVE learned something in the past day.  I thought you either voted at the polling place, OR by absentee ballot.  Didn't realize it was common place that you could vote early.  Hmmmm guess I'm just under a big rock.

Speaking of voting, they are already talking about concerns with the voting machines and various systems, (John F, you better take a pencil with you).  But they need to turn it over to the credit card companies.  Do you ever see an error on your statement?  And just think of the number of transactions that are processed daily.  Should be resolvable.

Finally,  since some folks (especially here in Calif.) think that "we" set the trends, for the entire nation, thought I would share some of the propositions that are on the ballot this time.

(Summarized for brevity.)

Proposition 1 - High Speed bullet train from SF to LA.  ($10 Billion in bonds)

Proposition 2 - Requires that farm animals have enough room to stretch and lay down, in their coop or pen.  Its the Chicken housing act.

Proposition 3 - $2 Billion Bond act for Childrens Hospital

Proposition 4 - Parental Notiication of Pregnancy

Proposition 5 - Prevents courts from imposing penalties for drug related crimes, provides for rehabilitation programs

Proposition 6 - Reallocate funds from education, transportation, hospitals, to provide addtional funding for prison guards.

Proposition 7 - Requires all energy sources to be renewable, using gov't developed systems.

Proposition 8 - Recognizes Marriage between a man and woman.

Proposition 9 - Establishes victims rights

Proposition 10 - $10 Billion in bonds for state purchase of environmental safe vehicles

Proposition 11- Redistricting of state officials

Proposition 12 - Extends state Veteran Bonds

Please don't think I was trying to express any viewpoint, just thought you might find it interesting some of the things we are voting on.  Some seem rather funny and a couple even ridiculous.

Morning!

RT:  I always scratch my head when the Doc's ask me why I'm here...I've been on the annual check-up for BP for years...on at the same clinics...they have the charts...maybe they should look at them.  Sounds like things are going well healthwise!  Great news!

Dennis:  Very nice, that she remembered you.  Did you ever meet her Grandfather?

Looks like a bit of leway is in order with the big election.  I'm not sure where "politics" starts and ends...maybe with the "right candidate".  Focusing on candidate intentions shouldn't be off limits, but then again, look at what's happening to Joe the plumber.

Don:  You have a proposal saying, I'm paraphrasing, it's not your fault if you commit a crime if you're doped up, so you get less time?  Wha?

Put the trains down, and get out and VOTE!

Mornin' Fellas.

This could be our last 'good' morning for 4 years...

EDW - What Dennis said. I have a quote for you as well, from Ronald Muhlenkamp "You can tax my income, but you can't force me to earn it." When the wealthy (who provide ALL of the jobs in this country) become over burdened with taxes they will either stop hiring, or they will simply close up shop. They do NOT need to work, they have made their money and quite honestly most likely don't need additional income to live. So by remaining in business they are doing you a favor, not themselves. I've grown overly tired of listening to those that feel the wealthy should be punished for working hard and earning a living to support themselves and their families and to provide a lifestyle they desire. You may not desire to live in the lap of luxury, but why do you feel it isn't necessary for anyone else. This country was based upon the pursuit of happiness - not having it handed to you. My wife and I worked our way through college, Master's school, and for her Doctorate school and we are very, very concerned about what Obama and the of the Democratic Congress are going to do to our income. I don't think it is right, just, nor fair that we have worked this hard to only see it TAKEN from our hands and given to someone who is able, but unwilling to work, sits on their rump day-in day-out pops out kid after kid on our dime, etc. I know I know not everyone on welfare mistreats the system... well if ONLY ONE person abuses the system that is one too many.

I'll be visiting a local store in the next few days and it won't be the train store...

Good Morning All

I don't know why none of you guys didn't tell me to vote absentee,I thought about it but didn't do it. I figure if I go just after 9AM the people going to work will be done and hopifully the none workers are still in bed. If I'm lucky then I could drive to Chicago and vote a couple more times. I started yesterday with my visit to the doc. usual things, he talked me into taking a flu shot which I very rarely do, said age was a factor, of course they can only guess about what flu virus we may get this winter and they are not always right. Oh well, its done. Then I ran some trains in the afternoon, talked to Brutus last nite via email and here we are. Enjoy your day...S.J.

Mornin' boy & girls (say, where are the girls?)

I voted last Thursday, so that's that.  On another political note, my Mom is running for borough council in my former hometown.  She's a registered Democrat --- and just that, REGISTERED....Whistling.  So hope Mom gets in, she'll kick some butts...!

The AC Moore is going out of business down the street from me, had a LeMax Twisty Treat store for $15 (didn't buy) and a Church with music and motion for $35 (nope, not this one either).  Got some trees and a Lionel Electric Trains sign (metal) for $23.  Nice looking trees, too!  No bases, just stick into the layout.  I'll try to get to that tonight.  My Devils fell to the Sabres last night 2-0, the Hall of Fame Goalie is injured and did not play.  Lousy effort in the 1st period, showed life in the 2nd & 3rd, but still lost.

There are 8 constitutional amendments on our ballots, safe to say some are suspect, just like Shake n Bake's...

Up to 78 cloudy this AM, alledged sunshine this afternoon.  We'll see about that...

Dennis - Yup, I understand.  After Christmas, I'll be looking (and I'll be home for a week!!)

RT - That is good news!  Just have to wonder what some of those docs think sometimes (no offense, Dennis..)

Later gents - and BTW - I'm done talking politics on this board (for this week at least) Hop eMom wins, that I'll report on!

I am the monster in your head...And I thought you'd learn by now, It seems you haven't yet.
