Hey guys, well I'm back - got the big fish for the weekend Big Smile [:D]  It was a catfish, but really only about 4.5 pounds I think.  Mostly, we caught crappie, some bluegills, a striper and some bass that were too small ($75 fish -throw it back!), and had a really good time.  Storms came in Saturday night - thank God for cell phones as we thought it was just getting dark out.

Had a few Blue Moons, a Few Sam Adams, and many Miller Lites - no Old Mills though.  Okay, more than a few Wink [;)]  It was just us guys, so lots of steaks, eggs, bacon, etc.  I thought we were fishing 4 days, so bought a whole year pass for Illinois that cost me about $24.  Didn't fish Thursday night or Sunday morning though.  Friday was the best fishing day as there were a lot of boats out Saturday and I think they scared the fish?  Overall, we had a great trip and some good time just talking with friends and solving the problems of the world while we slaughtered fish Wink [;)]

Wow - tons of posts!  Congrats to Chief, prayers for Chuck, Duke and all who need them.  Banilla ready?  I've got some left overs in the Tardis (picked it up on the way from Lake Mattoon) and some Old Mills for a certain someone!  Kurt - sorry dude, I thought I sent you and email before?

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

HI GIZ,

Busy day here in MILLERSBURG, PA.  Ran a nice 4 miler with dog and wife on ol RR bed.  NIce day for it.  Cut grass, did laundry, did food shopping, took recyclable to storage site.  Thenran trains for awhile, all good NO PILE UPs.

JIM, SKYLINE DRIVE HIKE was great walk and sleep real good nite after nite.  Nice thing about hiking there was that there were stores every so often to get restocked on supplies, food and just a great scenic veiw from there that made it an enjoyable hike.  When we got done, I hitched a ride with an elderly gentleman who took me to the other end of the park to pick up my pickup.

BRUTUS, DA NO OL MILS, musta drank em out on DA LAKE?

  DA BEARS LOOSE AGAIN DA!!!!!

Good Evening All

Brutus, welcome home, I think everyone was afraid to ride in the Tardis with me after last time and the loop-de-loops. No volunteers this time. We had another beautiful day, I just tried to enjoy it. Also watched the Pitiful Det. Lions lose again. They didn't even make a good game of it. So no trains but I liked my day. Start getting ready for Monday...S.J.

Chief, I'm so sorry to hear about the hammer accident.  Please take care of that leg and get it checked out.  Sounds like that could be nasty.  Seems like accidents always happen around our homes.

Rock Island, re the eye problem, cataract surgery is scheduled for Tuesday morning.  Have to be at the hospital at 5:30AM.  Don't think the surgery is until about 8 or 9 o'clock.

I've been looking at all the forums today trying to see some pictures of the Santa Fe 3751 steam engine on excursion duty today with a trip from L.A. to San Diego with 25 private rail cars.  Just a few available so far.  Some on Trainorders.com but you have to be a member to see more than a thumbnail picture.  One site has some YouTube videos but with dial up modem it takes all day to see it.

Ran some trains last night on my layout with grandson.  Always fun with him.  I won't be able to go through my duck unders on the layout after the eye surgery for a while.  They don't want you to bend over from the waist.  I suppose blood rushing to your head puts presure on your eyes.  Maybe I should throw some fastrack on the carpet to run on until I get better but that's bending too.  Oh well, there is always train videos to look at.

Brutus, sounds like you had a good time on the fishing trip.  I envy you guys that have good places to fish.  There are places here in Southern California but everything is either too far or too crowded.  I was spoiled by growing up near the Chesapeake Bay near Norfolk and Portsmouth, Va.  Fishing was usually good.  Great stripper and flounder fishing at different times.  I did a little trout fishing here after I retired but gave up after a while.  Everyone stay safe and have a good coming week.  Ray

Welcome back Brutus,

One step closer to painting layout table, chose valspar colors Parrot Green for surface, Jacolantern orange for trim and legs and shocking blue for lettering and logo.

But before painting I will have to fill in some minor gaps with Durhams water putty easy to work with bought 4lbs

a putty knife and some wood glue all for under $15.00 .

Good evening all,

IIASBSDISEI with temps in the low 80s.  Went to see IU play soccer but lightning delayed the game in the second half and we did not stick around for the finish.  Had a nice visit with Lucas and the younger daughter.  Drove home thru some rain, but none here.  I had toasted cinnamon bread again with cereal on the dining car for breakfast.  I hope everyone has a good day.

SPMan......I will say a prayer for your cataract surgery tomorrow and a great outcome.  I am not an eye Doctor, but I worked for a mega Health care products company for many years that distributed the interocular lens (IOL).  A better mousetrap is a good description.  If a contact lens can be so effective outside/on the eye, why not inside the eye?

The IOL was introduced early to mid 1980s, and the positive surgical outcomes from the outset were nothing short of stunning, in the positive sense.  I am certain your opthalmic surgeon has discussed this stuff thoroughly with you and you have read the internet to death on the procedure, so I am probably not telling you anything you don't already know.  The IOL not only replaces your natural, cataract-coated lens.  It can correct for certain sight deficiencies such as nearsightedness and farsightedness.  Not sure about astigmatism.  Does not correct for reading to the best of my knowledge.

My personal experience with someone that had the procedure is insignificant.....friends, family, and a few acquaintances.  But the outcomes all produced the same post op responses:

"Been wearing glasses for over 65 years and now only need them for reading."

"Why didn't I do this (fill in the number) years ago?"

"The only bad news is how much money I have to spend on some hot shades and reading glasses."

"I was surprised that the whole procedure was so easy.  I worried for nothing."

"The results were stunning from the get go."

You mentioned you have been advised not to go crawling around under the train table for a while after the surgery.  Lifting is out too.  Not sure about other activities Evil [}:)].  We're all pulling for you.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s.  As long as it does not rain, I do not have to mow the grass.  Not much else to report since last night.  Wife rode to work with me so she could go visit other daughter today.  Set her alarm an hour early.  Not much sleep last night.  Three meetings today.  Excitement plus.  I had the regular fare on the dining car this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning,

On my new computer as the old one finally bit the dust friday morning, second computer to crash in less than two months for me, both were old. Screen not in proper focus on new computer.

On to football, Miami beat up on New England yesterday, also beat New England a few years ago right before the playoffs 21 to 0(yes zero! shut out New England that day).

Still having trouble with racoon coming around so I guess I will be building a trash can cage out of pressure treated 2 by 4's over the weekend coming up.

Morning all. Looks like a nice day weather-wise.  The little guy is better with his wasp stings. Jim, the bride's a nurse so she knew what to do - used a credit card to get out the stingers, gave him antihistimines. I'm going to try Jack's methods of eradication. I think there may be a few openings into the nest that I still have to find. Nice memories jogged by your mention of Lime Rock, Jack. Used to go up there with my dad when they were racing cam-am cars.

ogauge and Laz, boy, the Bears sure gave that one away...

Kurt, I would like to see your photos of the old coal building. I've been musing about modeling a covered coaling building to go along with the open platforms I've made. They were found at some British depots with a center track to push coal trucks up and a track on either side, allowing engines could come up on either side of the building.

Picked up a small book on Friday covering the heyday of steam on the Irish Railways.

Glad Brutus is back safe.

GOOD MORNING ALL

A damp but sunny morning, going to the 70s today. I got outside early to get some end of summer garden stuff out for the trash man.  A sad time of the year for me,stuck in the house for the next ten months waiting for spring. Except for the train shows of course. Oh well it's going to happen anyway isn't it.

Enjoy your Monday....S.J.

Lee......we deserved that one.  No one showed up for NE.  The defense got nailed on the exact same play 4 times for 117 yards and I think 4 scores.  One zillion pound behemoth NE nose tackle Vince Wilfork was getting driven back 5 yards off the line of scrimmage.  No one could wrap up a tackle.  The imposed limitations on Cassels eradicated any deep threat, so Moss took the day off.  And the coaching staff, Belechik included, got soundly outcoached.  All this at home no less.  Other than these minor items, the Pats played great and fought valiantly until Miami's first possession was completed.  And the beer vendors had a great day statistically. Thumbs Down [tdn] Disapprove [V] Angry [:(!] Shock [:O] Parcells laughing.  Payback from Pennington, a career game.

Fife.....I did catch your subtle "slam" post after the game was over.  I missed it during the game because I was having trouble hooking up tube from the exhaust pipe on my idling car to the interior of the car, in my closed garage. Big Smile [:D]

Doug:  Sorry, no station...If I remember correctly...This was an elevated section of track where coal was delivered for heating in and around the city...I think.  I'll need to do some research.  I'll stop for pics today, as the eldest is pining for Chuck E. Cheese's.

Hey Good Late Morning...it's another rainy MONDAY

Special offsite sale sold 3 cars, was home by 5, and tried to go for a ride, and the bike died.  I thought I flooded it, replaced the plugs, long story short, have intermittant spark.  Then found out it has a special ignition system ($$$$$$$) by Crane Cams.  The HD replacement isn't even close.....Banged Head [banghead]

Jack - Mrs will not ride with me, even though it was HER idea.  Her riding on her own is out of the question.  My SON, however, wants to learn to ride.  Whence the scoot runs again, we'll persue that.  I'm hoping to get it done by Biketoberfest on 10/16 in Daytona.  Last BIG big run of the year.  Bike Week is very crowded and many nude/partially nude females on the road and in the bars.  Exciting times in Daytona...debauchery at it's best.  Bikes, beers and broads.

Took the little one to see Dark Knight (my 1st, her 4th), was enjoyable, hope for a sequel.  The Batman as he should be - Dark!!!  Has a talk with the princess before and after, having boy trouble, mixed emotions, etc, etc.  Got her through a crying stint about dinner time, thank God Mom wan't home.  Talked her through it, was better by the time Mom got home.

Stayed up late last night to watch the last game at Yankee Stadium.  I was there last in August of 2001.  The Moon was coming up near the World Trade Center on the way home.  That's the last time I saw the Twin Towers in person.

Wished I could've been at the game in person.  The new Stadium looks tremendous, but I'll miss the old one.  A great celebration of past Yankee Heroes and the next generation of Yankee Hall of Fame members.

The train layout is a mess, I have to get wiring up the mainline signals and the 153IR this week and set up the K-Line milk platform.

Angel [angel] - Blueberry, Chief, Duke, Kurt, Sir James, Mitch - Get Well Cards to youze giz..

I'll be in the background, see ya in da funny papers!

We were at Daytona on opening day of bike week last Feb. (just dumb luck on our part) and had a great day.  We had to be in Vero Beach that night so we missed all the after dark debauchery, dang it.  We did get an up close and personal tour of the speedway, we were in the right place at the right time, what a race track----WOW.  We would like to go back and spend at least one night in town, not sure the old heart could handle TWO nights Shock [:O]   Be sure to check Sunday's Photo Fun, there's a pic of Chief's seldom seen bike.

Good Evening from Blueberryhill....

It was a beautiful day today.

I did a little walking today. Leg is still stiff. Can't pick it straight up. Holds my weight and can lift me out of a chair. Much therapy.

Had breakfast this morning and sent the Dining car to "points west ".

No train time. That's starting to get stale.

Hope y'all had a great day.

Durham water putty experiment went well and is easy to use and clean up as well.Durham putty is a powder form and needs to be mixed with water and sets up hard. The key is 3 parts durham to one part water by weight not volume.

Think I will have some neopolitan icecream tonight. Will read the CTT issue I got today, still reading the latest OGR dedicated to O scale narrow gauge trains.

Thanks - good info!

Spent this morning getting new tires and alignment on truck.  Went to get them rotated 2 weeks ago and the front tires were feathered badly.

Going to Sir James for Banilla, so turn on beacons if you want a lift.

48 and nice here again, to get to 73.  Did all the lawns yesterday.  All is good, ran a nice easy 3 miles after school.

I did a polarity change on my Lionel FT unit.  I switched the wires on both motors and Santa Fe FT runs great in reverse.  Now I have a ABA with 4 motors in the consist pulling 6 passenger cars.  Looks GREAT.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s.  I must be a masochist as I am going to watch "my" soccer girls lose again tonight.  Younger daughter's grandson will be here Wednesday night thru Saturday.  Wife is a glutton for punishment.  Visited older daughter and her two kids last night and then went to eat at Fazzoli's.  They have a new chocolate torte dessert that is "food of the gods" good. Definitely Tardis worthy.  I had the regular fare on the dining car as it arrived from "Points East".  I hope eveyone has a good day.

Mornin' Fellas.

Another quick 'hello' from the traffic capital of the USA.

---Begin Soapbox rant---
While driving home yesterday I realized what's been bothering me. I'm sick and tired of people in this country expecting to go to work, do nothing, and get an astronomical salary. Too many 'parents' have instilled upon their children an 'entitlement' philosophy where you don't have to life a finger to earn a living wage, you don't have to save money to pay for goods and services, and you can just sit back and let the hard working, God fearing, self-respecting, educated, people pay 2/3 their salaries in taxes to support your lazy ***.

You may wonder what got me started... well over the past year I have run into too many kids, and for that matter adults, who are in a service industry - consumer electronics (Best Buy), retail (Wal Mart), fast food (McDonalds, Wendy's, Arby's, Taco Bell), and a few other service industries who simply could care less about the consumer. They stand around talking to friends, chatting on cellphones, texting their friends, talking to co-workers, smoking a cigarette by the store entrance, picking their nose with a fingernail file, basically anything other than doing their job. OH, and when you DO get service they look at you like you are annoying them! Or they tell you 'There isn't anything I can do for you... it's not my job.'  So instead of making sure the local management staff is doing their job and ensuring these dregs are doing their work, the company has to form a 'customer advocacy department' and pay people to answer phone lines to field customer complaints... and rely on customers to take more time out of their day to call them and tell how poor a job they are doing... I have to give BestBuy some credit for realizing they had a problem and doing something about it... you have companies like DirecTV, and electric companies (Duquesne Light Company in Pittsburgh - they closed their offices last Monday following the high wind storms due to an extraordinarily high phone call rate) who simply turn their backs on their customers and treat them worse than the ground they walk on.

---End Soapbox rant---

Spoke with SusieQ last night. I've been wanting to get down to the trainroom to do some projects and realized some of them can be done in the kitchen (scenic projects that I can build in the kitchen then put inplace on the layout when they are done) so we can spend time together and she even offered to help on the scenery projects!

Fife - sent email regarding tree manufacturing... SusieQ wants to know if you, Kelly, and Lexi want to come over and build trees? Wink [;)]

Laz - Been following your FT 'project'. Did you have to cut the wires or did you simply have to switch the forward and trailing motor leads on the board?
