Good Morning ( and, for once it is a GOOD morning)

Brent - astute observation - and you are quite correct

Berk - Get over it.  You are better than that.  Trust me (been there, done that, seen it all).

Buckey - Coat & tie AND NEW TIRES??  MUST be a special event...Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Drove home a PT Cruiser 'vert last night and hoped for the best.  It was raining all day and last night as well.  For once my patience has been rewarded, I was trated to a low 70's morning, cool and dry.  The top came off the car and like always, left my XM radio at work.  The short drive to work was nice!  Of course, all H**L broke loose when I got here this AM.

Made Ravioli last night for dinner, was too tired to cook a full blown meal.  Not cooking tonight, have a 6:45 softball game.

Went BACK to Harley dealer yesterday, to match up the coil for the bike (it is a custom ignition, verified that last night).  The parts guy found one that will work with this system, and, true to fashion, it was twice the cost of a stocker.  It should be here tomorrow, and I hope this is the fixBanged Head [banghead].  The good thing is they took the stock one I bought back toward credit on the new one.

Pre-season NHL Hockey Devils 1 Phlyers 4 - Hope this is not an OMEN of the new season

Yankees are out, Giants cruisin'.  NHL opens October 10!!!

We'll see ya later!

All,

I made it to work today.  First time since the surgery on the 16th.  Working remotely is nice.  I got the stitches out yesterday.  Doc says I'm going to be on crutches for 5 more weeks, then months of PT.  Looking forward to it.  I got to see some of the surgery pictures too.  You wouldn't believe all of the stuff they removed, clipped, and drilled while they were in there.  The knees don't feel too bad right now, and I'm not on pain killer.  Maybe I just don't have many feelings down there.  They do get stiff though.  Doc says no running after the rehab.  Really looking forward to York this year too.

Have a great day!
Wes

Morning all. Another beautiful day here. Got the new CTT last night. Norm has quite a layout. Looks like a great read - I will peruse it on my late night commute home after class. Prayers for SPman.

GOOD MORNING

Sunny and 70s today, Dr. appointment at noon time or one or two you know how that goes. No trains yet today but CTT is sitting right here. I put a credit card in my wifes name years ago so she would have a credit summary, also a car loan for the same reason. Now the CC co. has pulled the strings unless its the primary person calling, in the past I would give them the right info and they worked with me. no deal yesterday, so now we have  to call and see if either name can talk about the account. Always something new. TTFN...S.J.

BRENT,

I cut the wires and then resoldered them.  The leads on the motors had shrink wrap on them and didn't want to remove that.  I ran the ABA Sante Fe FT last nite for about a half hour real smooth, no problemo.

We were at Daytona on opening day of bike week last Feb. (just dumb luck on our part) and had a great day.  We had to be in Vero Beach that night so we missed all the after dark debauchery, dang it.  We did get an up close and personal tour of the speedway, we were in the right place at the right time, what a race track----WOW.  We would like to go back and spend at least one night in town, not sure the old heart could handle TWO nights Shock [:O]   Be sure to check Sunday's Photo Fun, there's a pic of Chief's seldom seen bike.

ANJD/Rich.....Isn't Daytona the largest annual gathering in the U.S.?  BTW, thanks to all you train store employees and junkies for all your staunch support in the lionel loyalty thread and my "Why you should pay more at your local train shop" ideas.  It means a lot to me.  Laugh [(-D]

Too many 'parents' have instilled upon their children an 'entitlement' philosophy where you don't have to life a finger to earn a living wage, you don't have to save money to pay for goods and services, and you can just sit back and let the hard working, God fearing, self-respecting, educated, people pay 2/3 their salaries in taxes to support your lazy ***.

You may wonder what got me started... well over the past year I have run into too many kids, and for that matter adults, who are in a service industry - consumer electronics (Best Buy), retail (Wal Mart), fast food (McDonalds, Wendy's, Arby's, Taco Bell), and a few other service industries who simply could care less about the consumer. They stand around talking to friends, chatting on cellphones, texting their friends, talking to co-workers, smoking a cigarette by the store entrance, picking their nose with a fingernail file, basically anything other than doing their job. OH, and when you DO get service they look at you like you are annoying them! Or they tell you 'There isn't anything I can do for you... it's not my job.'  So instead of making sure the local management staff is doing their job and ensuring these dregs are doing their work, the company has to form a 'customer advocacy department' and pay people to answer phone lines to field customer complaints... and rely on customers to take more time out of their day to call them and tell how poor a job they are doing... I have to give BestBuy some credit for realizing they had a problem and doing something about it... you have companies like DirecTV, and electric companies (Duquesne Light Company in Pittsburgh - they closed their offices last Monday following the high wind storms due to an extraordinarily high phone call rate) who simply turn their backs on their customers and treat them worse than the ground they walk on.

Brent,

As someone who works in a retail environment (grocery store), I agree with you on many of those points.   I also hate it when coworkers have their cell out texting people while on the sales floor.  Or when they stand around and only appear to be working.  I work hard to earn my pay, and I simply can't stand around and be useless.  I like my job, and I take pride in making sure that it is done correctly.  The department I am in is under staffed, and I can use all the help I can get.  However, I treat customers the way they treat me.  I do not tolerate the rude treatment some dish out.  Most of the customers are very nice people, but you get that one every once in a while who is not.  I do not believe that the customer is always right either, because they make mistakes just like the employees do.  I also feel that the general public looks down upon anyone in the retail/ fast food industries.  Please do not be offended by this post, as that is not why I wrote it.  I wrote it just to show my view.

I believe Sturgis is the largest mc rally, the last number I heard was 750,000 to 800,000.  That's a lot of tatoo's and Bud Lights.

Buckeye, Don't forget, white sox do not go with a suit & tie. Unless of course you are wearing a good pair of sandals. Aren't new tires a special order or does your local shop normally carry Duesie replacements.

Jack, By accident we, my daughter and I, happened to be there for Bike Week. Shock [:O]Blush [:I] Almost had a crash when this young lady, real looker, walked by wearing not much more than a thong, chaps & boots, and a top the size of a pair of postage stamps. Mischief [:-,]

Jon, They have been advertising the heck out here of a three wheeler called the Spyder. Have you seen this one? Rite along the lines of trainheads, 3railer/wheeler ot 2railer/wheeler. Big Smile [:D]Black Eye [B)]

Doug--

I have seen the Spyder, neat idea but when I get to the point where I need a 3rd wheel I'll sell my bike and get a convertible. I'm not exactly sure why the Spyder is so popular because there are "trikes" out there that IMO look and perform much better. Oh well, different strokes for different folks.

Here's a short video, enjoy.

Jim,
Not offended at all. Thumbs Up [tup] I agree with you that there are a number of people who feel retail/fastfood workers are beneath them, I've seen it myself working fastfood, grocery stores, clothing retailers, and simply walking through the grocery store or waiting for the lady behind the meat counter to slice some deli meat for my Father-In-Law.

My rant was against those that don't take pride in their work and are simply there sucking valuable oxygen from the air and wasting valuable corporate resources that could just as easily have gone to someone else who really NEEDS that money - IMHO if you have time to text while at work then you don't need the job... you may ask what I'm doing typing on a train forum during business hours... well I'm sitting here rebuilding my laptop - that should have been done two days ago, but someone claimed there was nothing wrong with it, yet I couldn't do my job, and low and behold guess what? Rebuilding the danged OS is what it took to fix the problem... so I sat here for two days beating my head against the wall for nothing! (sorry rant over)

I get paid a pretty hefty salary to not know what I'm talking about... Whistling [:-^] Just drives me nuts when I have to spend as much time arguing/defending over the fix as actually performing the fix...

Jim - you're a pretty intelligent person and although I've never met you I have a feeling we'd make pretty decent friends. Smile [:)] As long as you don't like grits! Big Smile [:D]

Jack - Yeah, Sturgis is the right answer.  Bike Week is 2nd, I'm sure.  I've been there twice, and let's just say that Dougnotagrump is correct.  And that might be being OVER dressed for some of them women.  You really can't get in and out of Daytona in a timely manner during that time.

And it has spread to Orlando and Ormond Beach.  Bike-toberfest is just about to that scope as well, just not as many people.  If I can get the HD to run, I'll be there on Thursday the 16th.  Friday, my daughter has to be at the Homecoming Football game, Saturday I have another "off site" car sale, then, after the Homecoming Dance, we'll leave for Orlando for Halloween Horror Nights at Universal, and Monday I'm OFF!! (long weekend).

Brent - I can relate.  I'm paid for my expertise and knowledge and when some "so called" expert tries me, well, lets just say I just keep quiet.  Why open my mouth and prove I'm a fool?

And Jack, I appreciate your purchases from you local train seller.  I work for a LTS and seeing it from his perspective really changed me around.  I went there not because it's cheap, but because of the advice and guidance he gave me.  I know that we aren't schooled in all areas of life and he knows businesses, grocery stores and trains.  Sure, you can pay a little more somewhere else, but where else to you get the personal service and a face that goes with the product.  If I have an issue, he'll either fix it or replace it.  Right there!  Why wait and spend more postage?

Rich.....I can't recall if it was DonB or DougDG that was jumping in and out of their swimming pool wearing a thong when the hot water tank went South.  And we thought things were risque at Daytona! Shock [:O]

Laz....now that El Captan is ultra powered, you must resurrect the "How Many Cars Can Your Train Pull?" thread.  I think with this acquisition you just moved into the top 10.  Glad the fix worked too. Thumbs Up [tup]

Chuck.....it sounds like you are improving.  Good news. Thumbs Up [tup]  Your therapy should be comprised of doing the stairs to play with the trains.

Brent....I hate to say I told you so.  Different company, different people, same problem.  Think of the bright side, you are getting a lot of good practice dealing with  knuckleheads.  Banged Head [banghead]  BTW, re your comments on customers getting treated like dirt by service employees who could care less.  At least when you get home and look in the bag, you have all the food items that you ordered and paid for, right?  Guess you didn't!  Me neither. Laugh [(-D]

Brutus and Buckeye.....fresh rubber on dem vehicles in September?  Don't you know you are supposed to wait until after it snows and you wreck into a tree before you get around to those things?

By this time SPMan should be looking like a sidekick to Captain Jack Sparrow. Pirate [oX)]  Hope all went well with your adventure, SPMan.

MikeC...... 3 day grandchild visits, perish the thought.  Mine doesn't visit.  It's more like she moves in.  Sir James can straighten us out with some advice.  He's got it down to a science. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]  New rallying cry for your soccer team: losing builds character.  Seriously, on that topic, keep the faith.

Wes.....how many pop tops from your youthful beer-drinking days did the docs pull out of your knee? Hope you are feeling better.

SirJames.....the CC company will take calls and answer questions from anyone authorized by the primary card holder.  Don't know if that can be ironed out over the phone or requires wife to fill out and return some written authorization form.  With all of the fraud, theft, etc., you have to be encouraged that they are taking security measures seriously.

It's not only in the retail buisness. How would you like to work with a guy on the SWAT Team who just wants to parade around in his new black uniform in front of his old colleauges till you yell at him it's time to go home. Then he wants to drive like a turtle and talk/text on his phone on the way back to HQ when it's already 10 minutes after you were supose to be thier. Then today my new partner and I respond to a officer chasing a suspect and the police car in front of you pulls over lets you pass and does not even respond to the other officer thas only 5 blocks away. No wonder this city is the way it is.

I also regret to say we lost another police officer today. One of our Highway Patrol Officers was shot and killed this afternoon and his partner wounded in the leg. The scumbag was killed by responding officers so tax money is saved on the trial. I hope everyone can say a prayer for us in Philly cause we need it. This is three officers this year that were murdered in the line of duty.

Rock Island-I wanted to get this in before I forgot. My wife and I called the CC co.this AM using the speaker phone, and took care of the online problem I had last nite. Then (different # for customer service) called them.According to todays info already on file, I am and WAS authorized to access the account. So according to C.S. this morning there was no reason for this guy to refuse in assisting me except for being a rude and obnoxious  jerk.S.J.

Good Evening

Day is done here in the east, well daylite anyway. Kind of a busy day. errands to run, Dr. appointment, perhaps some news there but I would like to wait till tomorrow after blood test results to say much. It appears headaches are not from sinus's. It also appears the big bad C is not part of it. Anyway no train running today and I have not heard from Andy, so I guess nothing going on at the store. Banilla is ready.S.J.

Quick stop by as I am heading to bed.  Had a nice conversation with His Honor, the Chief.  Glad to hear you are doing well and that you can take a little time for yourself and Miss Pam.  Had a long day...again.  Two emergency cases and long hours make me a tired lump of flesh.  I did get the new CTT, but have no time to read it.  Am supposed to have a Parent/Teacher conference tomorrow, but looks like bride will have to go on her own as I have a few more cases to get to.

Tonight is our anniversary and, though I remembered it and got her a card and gift, we did not get to spend much time together.  With that said, I'm heading in to catch up with SWMBO.  We have a baby sitter for the opening of Fireproof on Friday.  Will take her there and then have a nice dinner.  I guess that will have to be our date night.

Sorry to hear of the PO in Philly.  Bad deal.  I don't know the details, but the results are bad enough.

God Bless,

Dennis

PhilaKnight - Being from Central Jersey, I always had the Philly/New York influences.  I was always partial to Philly.  I still remember when they "bombed" (note quotes) those scumbag in the rowhouse.  I figured that was the benchmark for the decline.  Us guys in the red trucks salute youse in the black n whites.  Sucks dude.  Prayers to our brothers in Blue from Philly.

Nice softball game tonight, we lost 10-4.  But not before I broke up a double play, and the 2nd baseman took exception when I slid into him (he was blocking the base). He's half my age and twice my size.  Of course, he jawed, I jawed and left, the ump threw him out of the game and I understand he's out for the season.  Poor sport.  I even tried to talk to him after...too bad for him.

Jack - I think that was Don B---!

Chuck & Sir James - will ya get better already, ha?

See ya 2morrow!

Fairly nice day here today. About 90 with a decent breeze. 90's predicted for the rest of this week.

JimT and Brent - amazing that many places stay in business - everyone thinks they will be the next internet mogul...but do not want to work for it...

Chuck - glad to see you are staying on the mend.

Philly - prayers for you and your brethren.

Hope everyone has a great day tomorrow!

Regards, Roy

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI and MSGLA (short for "my" soccer girls lost again, figure I might as well acronym it before the season ends).  The score was 2-1 and the boys lost 1-0.  Heart breakers both.  The real heart break comes in the following rant:

The Brazilian exchange student I have been tutoring in soccer has been told she can not play in any more games by the "Idiots Hampering Sports Anytime Anywhere" otherwise known as the IHSAA.  They have some stupid rule that overseas students who have completed their home high school program cannot play sports here.  I guess they are afraid our high schools will import thousands of soccer players or other sports players to win ball games.  This is particularly galling in this instance because 1) she never played the game before, 2) she only plays on the JV team, 3) the games do not even count as "real" JV games because they are not the length of time prescribed in the rules by the above mentioned mindless faceless (please feel free to substitute other words starting with the same letters) bureaucrats.  I really can't see why the school does not let her play anyway as what is the worse the a------s can do, have us forfeit all of our non-existent wins??????    A couple of years ago the boys team was awarded a win after one of the teams they lost to had a couple of academically ineligible players, but that was a varsity team.  Whatever happened to the idea of sport being for the kids?????  This just p----s me off big time.  I realize in the grand scheme of things this is just a little bump in the road compared to some of the issues facing some of the people on the pot, but d--n it, here was a kid having the opportunity to do something she was not encouraged to do in her own country and then having the door slammed in her face.  It just creates a vacuum that's all.  Finally suppose the "idiots" were right and schools did "import" or "recruit" other talent.  How long would tax-paying local parents tolerate their kids being "ousted" from teams?  They might accept one or two "ringers" but not an entire squad of "hired guns" winning a title.

End of rant (tell us, Mike, how do you really feel?)

I had the usual fare on the dining car.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Hey guys!  Good Morning !

Chuck, Sure hope the leg is doing better, (I hope).  I know you had some improvement havn't seen you post more on that.  Prayers and wishes!!!!

Philly - ALWAYS sad to loose a policman or fireman, hope the family is getting through it.  More Prayers and thoughts.

Sure the Chief is really busy with the new digs. Maybe he will turn it into a camp, we may all might have to consider relocating there, the way the news is going.

Finally, got my Legacy back online.  I did restore release 1.0, and it seems to run better.  Wonder when they are going to release another update level.  (IMO it sure is a lot easier to download an update rather then wait for a module.)

Got another busy week-end ahead maybe this time it will be worth doing.

I too got my CTT really early this time, don't know how that happened.  I also have a subscription to Trains, sure enjoy that magazine!  It too is very interesting.

Off to work, hope everyone has a great day.

Morning all. Tried to post here last night from my late night train home but obviously it didn't 'take.' Great articles in the latest CTT.

Nice day here again. Looking forward to beginning the day with the Chicago Sun-Times and a cuppa joe.

Pleased to report my middle boy's GF broke up with him last night - a week before the big homecoming dance. I feel sorry for him but am thrilled this'll be one less distraction in his difficult H.S. transition. No more dating 'til he's older. Mike C, we have similar idiocy here too.

Prayers for that trooper's family.
