NEWS RELEASE FROM ROGER'S CORNERS
Due to strong winds, Roger's Corners is without power. Buckeye is presently walking around with a small candle. It is not lit, as the wind blew it out.
Chuck - isn't Buckeye always walking around with a small unlit candle???
I hear there is woe in Buckeyeland this weekend.
Well our HS team won 10-7 Fri night. Big defensive battle.
Spent most of the weekend trying to change out the ceiling fan in my daughters bedroom and finally succeeded. Required adding a joist/stringer to attach the electrical box and new fan hanger to. The fan was hung by the original owners to a plastic junction box and a steel tie that was meant only for light fixtures, not ceiling fans. Of course the place between the exsiting joists was not easily accessed due to air conditioning ducts and L girder reinforcement beam. This is one of those jobs were one makes 6 trips to Lowes, Home Depot, and Sears since none of those stores carries everything you need (or they are out of stock).
Busy day tomorrow. Hope everyone has a great day tomrrow!
Regards, Roy
72 and breezy here this morning, to get to 77. Was real hot and humid yesterday. Hope to run today after school with dog on old RR bed.
Have a good one,

Good morning all,
The calm after the storm today. Much cooler in SE Indiana. Did some "work" work last night and some Second Life. Drove Lucas' car to work today since it just sits at home. Gas up to 4.15 due to Ike. Wife is taking him to school this morning as it was too windy to drive yesterday. Had streusel and cereal on the dining car this morning. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Good Morning From Blueberryhill....
It is a clear and quiet 72 degrees. Going up to 80 today with some sunshine.
Today is a busy day. I have a bunch of errands to run and the usual chores around the house. We lost a small tree last night due to the winds. Lots of big trees went down in the woods.
Dining car is here and it's time for breakfast.
Y'all have a great Monday.
Chuck
GOOD MORNING,
Just checking in. Overcast with a high of 69. We have some local flooding but in the usual places so thats kind of normal. Actually where I live Saturday was much worse than Ike yesterday. There was a small tornado about thirty miles from here on saturday. No trains yet today, in fact no breakfast yet, so my day has just started. Good luck with yours....S.J.

Happy Monday....
Came in to work and an associate had gotten rear ended in one of my cars....
On Saturday, I repaired 10 (yes 10) MTH ProtoSound Engines. They were all locked up, and since I found the "CHIP", they are unlocked and even sold 2 of them!!! Still have 10 more to unlock.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. MTH engines are really nice IF AND WHEN THEY RUN!!! I unlocked a Western Maryland Challenger. Man, what a nice engine. Fifey, I can see why you like them. Sound is awesome and really runs well.
I ran the C&O Empire Builder set on Saturday, also. This is a $2800 set with Legacy, ZW & @ bricks, 2 O-72 switches, look it up in the Catalog. That whistle gives me chills!! WOW! We ran it on TMCC, I can only imagine what it does with Legacy!! The engine and tender have already been sold from the set....was out of the box 1 day!
Got some quality Harley time on Sunday, went to the HD dealer had a big sale, found nothing I needed for the money I wanted to spend. Need riding boots and gloves. Went to Target, found some nice Mechanix Gloves for $15. SOLD!! Now to find boots (HD boots for $150!! & riding jacket $220, WITH 20% off!!).
Took a snooze in the train room yesterday, it's very comfortable in there with TV and my E-Z chair....
Saw the opening for GMA this AM, looks like an AMTRACK Genesis engine. Couldn't see the exterior of the cars, but it looks nice in there (they started in MASS - HEY JACK! DID you get there? They were in WOOOOSTA!)
Hope youze giz is ok, Roy, I guess you had no problems..., so the storm thing...we can take a breather for a few days (I hope).
OK Thats all that's news from here, have a great day....
Rich

Must be due to the football game in CA this past weekend.
Morning. Hot and humid but changing by night fall. Got trailer decked and ready to go to Lake House. County Comm. meeting this afternoon and Mayor's meeting [free steak] tonight. Have a good one.

Good morning from cool (65°F) overcast Southern Ohio
I pray for physical and material restoration for those who were affected by the storms.
We just had high winds my guess is 50 M.P.H. plus as flags were pegged straight on flag poles. Cincinnati had some damage.
Roy - This is too late for this job, but there is a hanger that is made for ceiling fan retrofits. It collapses to fit through a standard octagon opening then the arms expand driving fasteners into the joists. They work well.
Rich - How about a picture of the HD?
I am off today. Got some laundry done and hung out, and waiting on a call from eldest daughter to go to her place and help clean out the basement. This is going to be ugly. I got a roll back dumpster in the side yard! Till then study for class this Saturday.
May God bless
Jim
Morning all. I am happy to feel a bit better today - think I might've caught whatever sir james has been battling. Saturday saw the most rainfall ever in Chicago - nearly 7 inches - though I'm sure we got a bit less out in Crystal Lake. I've never seen the Des Plaines river higher - as our commuter train passed over, it was almost up to the nice Lionel-type bridge the C&NW used. Noticed not many commuters sitting in the first cab car. It's usually packed with folks who want to be first off.Disappointed in our Bears, Laz... That was quite a hit Charlie Weiss took on the sideline at Notre Dame. They may be the worst, luckiest 2-0 team out there...

DOUG,
Yep DA BEARS should of won. The TE fumbled which led to the Carolina TD. Oh well at least they looked a little better.
Buckeyeland set some type of record for wind. We had winds at 75 mph at Port Columbus with temperatures in the high 80's. The hardwood trees of this area are not built to take this type of wind as are the trees along the hurricane prone coastlines.
One Two million Buckeyes were without power at one time. There was no rain, just wind. Barns have been blown off their foundations. Trailers over turned and trees crushed houses. Power lines were down and sparking.
Traffic signals were still out this morning at 10 am as I made my way to work. The office building has metal trim missing and several small tree branches broken. An outdoor patio across the street is completely destroyed.
We were up at sunrise and did our impression of Paul Bunyan. Several big tree limbs in back yard were down. No school today, but the kids can't play computer games!!!
FYI, due to my fear of fires from candles, they are not used in the Buckeye Mansion. We use a Coleman propane lantern that is thirty years old. Gives off great light. Normally used in winter when power goes out.

Good mornin', ya'll,
Prayers for those caught up in the ravages of Ike. Some who evacuated can't go home yet? And power outages impacting 4.5 million customers. I keep thinking how lucky I am that we in NE don't get the direct brunt of hurricanes here. Can't imagine being forced to make the evacuation decision with two dogs in tow, then worrying about the house (winds and water damage) and it's contents (winds, water, and looters/vandals). I'll take the cold, snow, and ice and all that goes with it.
A few years back we got 144" of snow in one season, seemed like the nearly daily shovelling, snowblowing, and related activities would never end. At least my family, dogs, and house were safe. One storm dumped 37 inches. Coupled with the blowing and drifting from high winds, closed roads, etc......drifts in the front side of the house covered 3/4 of the garage door and 1/2 of the 1/2 story elevated front door (face East, direction of the incoming). And when you have dogs, there is no such thing as waiting until it is over to dig out, so you find yourself out with the snowblower every few hours to keep up where they need to "go." Cars in the driveway......you couldn't even tell they were there, completely covered.
Was horrified at OSU's debacle against USC. But glad to see ND's win over Michigan. There was a time not so long ago when ND was in the top 5-10 every year. Those days are over, perhaps forever. You have to be a student to play for ND. Patriots looking solid if not strong without Brady. Red Sox just 2 games back in the loss collumn to Tampa Bay for the AL East title. Losing, or on the verge of it, adds an encouraging element of humility to spoiled Boston fans, expecting the world every year.
Anyone know where John of John and Julie is hiding out?
Jim/SPMan.......thought you were in the midst of some eye issues. Hope that worked out in your favor.
MikeC......what son Lucas performed last weekend would put the F1 pit crews to shame. Did you get to see him (awake) for more than 15 seconds? You must be proud that he is maintaining his local social obligations even when he is away at school.
Fife......ladders, I don't like them because of serious accidents two neighbors have had with them. But glad to see you came away unscathed from the painting project. How did the bees treat you while you were annoying them? My shutters and eaves are always a favorite "home" for the suckers.
Jon.....this time in New England (late Summer/early Fall) is absolutely stellar for the shorter motorcycle road trips, especially because we are just 120 miles from (South of) serious mountains. If you like beautifully paved winding roads, rising and falling elevation, and stunning Fall foliage, NH is the place you should consider as an alternative to your trips West.
Chief......so this Thursday is the big day for the Lake House. As far as housewarming gifts are concerned, I checked at Lowes and Home Depot and didn't find your name on the gift registry, though you were on the top of the list at the local beverage superstore. With regard to the newest member of your family, beware while you are reclinerizing. My (younger) dog chewed the stems clean off my Varilux lensed glasses this weekend (expensivo) and the optometrist informed me this AM that there are no frames available any more to accommodate the lens size and shape. The glasses were snatched right off the kitchen countertop. This one is going to hurt price wise.
Jim/Brutus.....I have been enjoying your basement project, including the pictures. I could not entertain a similar project without swapping out my heating plant for a larger one.....not enough btu capacity in the existing one.
Sir James.....hope your last Doc visit finally straightened out the sinus issues.
Roy.....re your 6 trips to HD and Lowes to successfully complete the ceiling fan project, I feel your pain. The guys on the home improvement shows complete projects like this in 5 minutes, including the snafu's created by former owners. Yeah, right.
Rich......Worcestershire (Worcester) MA is about 60 miles West of here, but I didn't want to go there for Amtrak's GMA installment this morning and detract from the primary focus, trains. America's Most Wanted has its own followers. Besides, I was tied up dropping Granddaughter off at Kindergarten. Different day. Same issues. This bench player is getting a lot of unexpected playing time.....thought all this was behind me when my kids grew up and started families of their own. At least I got pizza out of it as we watched the Patriots football game at Daughter and SIL's yesterday.
Brent.....just curious, how's the gas mileage and monthly fuel expense treating you with the "new" commute?
DougM.....so Illinois has turned into a tropical rain forest in the past week. It was rain and winds on and off here over the weekend with temps at 77 when I got up this am, perhaps high 80's later today. We are still running the a/c here, either to drop the humidity in the house or to drop both the temp and humidity. My FIL says you guys are getting your money's worth with your sump pumps. Hope all is dry with you, particularly with the lower elevation (basement).
John Bakeer......always good to hear stuff from you across the pond. I listen to the BBC every night just for a change of pace. I can't stomach another second of the U.S. presidential race mudslinging from either side. These two pair couldn't agree on the color of water or asphalt!
Mitch.....one problem I bet you don't have at your new school, parking and a place to drop off/pick up. My Granddaughter's school has neither, though the rennovation of her school looks first class.
Laz.....how is it your temps are so high this time of year? Aren't you kind of in the elevation of the Blue Mountains?
Later Gang,
Jack

Wow ! I didn't realize there was that kind of storm that went through. I thought the state was in mourning over the weekend game.

We were so worried about the pending storms approaching that our miinds were not in the game, so I believe a do over is in order. Let's see, looking at the Farmer's Almanac, December 15th is suposed to be sub-zero with plenty of snow and ice. Let's play again that day in Columbus. No ice skates allowed.
Just found out that a roof of an elementary school gym near my house was ripped off in the winds. My boss is out trying to find ice for his fridge. We still have not had the normal rains that come with huricanes. Doug must have taken all the rain to sell to the Chief.
Chuck....Here's the stats at noon today: Franklin County 60% without power. Noble County 6% without power. I hear that Mansfield is the worst.

I prefer the 14 pt as it comes out bold looking and its easier for the chief to read You know all that reading and all he has to do at all these meetings ( needs to be able to save his eyes for the menu's)
No personally I like it also it is easier to read just I normally forget to click to it and haven't figured out how to get it to do it by its self.
Well I feel like that kid waiting for santa on christmas eve tonight as my NS engine ( from Black Diamond set) and MY chessie Frieght set with the C&O TMCC engine are both due to be here tomorrow evening
These are my first TMCC engines and I already have the track hooked up for TMCC going to be neet just have to learn a few things with them like how to run the 2 mu'ed
Will read directions and learn all that in fact seems I read about that already just need to look at my manuels on TMCC and find it again.
Guess now if I get any extra cash it goes to getting room ready for layout. Then on building bench work and layout
Not much else going on here take care all will let you know when I finally get them

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Good evening everyone! Had a nice trip up to Nashville. Was a good meeting and the trip only took 6.5 hours each way. Family was good on the trip too, which with two young ones, that has bad potential.
Buckeye, glad you made it through the storms OK. Just make sure you watch the carbon monoxide when using that lantern. Make sure it is a well ventillated area. I suppose that would be harder to do in winter when it is cold out.
Chief, hope that you are doing well. How are things going with the lake house? Just think, you will have to build another layout for that house too!
While in Nashville, we stopped at a Barnes and Nobles book store. I picked up several magazines I usually don't get....all train related. One is on British Railroads and this issue has a special on the final days of steam across the pond. Also got a "all scales" model railroad magazine and a few others. Pick up a lot of detail and scenery tips from other scales.
Finally, we have 11 days till the movie comes out. While I have seen it a few times, I am more interested to see what God does with this one. I know that for all our efforts, we could never pull this project off without His intervention. I hope as many here who can, will be able to take it in the first weekend as that sets the stage for the success of the rest of the movie run. If you go to www.fireproofthemovie.com you can look up a theater near you.
Well, I have to get to bed as I am on call and never know when they will page me in next. Hope everyone has a fantastic week ahead.
God Bless,
Dennis

GOOD EVENING ALL,
Just got home from a good meal of ribs at Max & Ermas, # 2 sons birthday dinner. He's the baby at 37 today. No trains today fell asleep on the couch and then played PS2 golf, well the couch was comfy. Have a good tomorrow...S.J
Brutus and gang, A&W and banilla on tap, fire up the thingy.
Evening all!
Interesting game so far between Dallas and Philly. High scores and lots o' mistakes.
Nice and cool here. Have many of the windows open. Good to air the house out after being closed up all summer. Low to mid-80's predicted for rest of week.
My sister and her husband in Houston have been without power since early Sat morning. Falling trees took out many power lines. I assume in the future the local power utility in Houston like the one here in Dallas will take a No Mercy approach to tree trimming around power lines. After several ice storms here in the past left hundreds of thousands without power for up to 3 weeks due to fallen trees - with repairs requiring many crews from neighboring utilities - the Dallas utilities now cut the trees at least 10-12 ft from the lines every couple of years - even if it means topping the tree. Some are cut in a funny "V" if it is right under the line.
Hope everyone has a great day tomorrow.
Same thing here in the St. Louis area, Roy - they are also putting more and more utility lines underground
Thingy is ready, Sir James - gotcha on the scope and away we goooooo!
HI GIZ,
51 here and nice sun rise. To get to 72. Yesterday came home ran a nice 4 miler then did neighbor ladies lawn then my lawn. Took dog for a walk and watched the Monday Nite game and WOW what a game. COWGIRLS won but a great back a forth game. Wish all the NFL games were like this one.
Dintist appoinment today,
later,
Morning all Day off gee it seems strange lol. Went to bed early as tired and woke up late for me 6:30. normally up at 5:00 . Well today is big day think I figured out the lash up setup but probally won't run that way normal but want to know so if I wish to I can will try when I get them just to see if I got it right. Will have to put NS in lead in honor of the chief lol.
Had a thunder storm roll thru last night as I was going to bed they were giving out flash flood warning as some areas around us was getting over an inch of rain in less than an hour.
Well take it east talk to you all later
Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a sunny 58 degrees. Going up to 73 today with sunshine. A little cooler.
Today, I am taking it easy. Right leg is acting up. Old knee injury. So, I will be sitting a lot. Maybe in the train room.
Dining car is here and breakfast is served.
Buckeye is still without power.
Y'all have a great Tuesday.
IIABSDISEI with temps in the 70s. Spent an hour hauling tree limbs to the front of the house last night for trash pickup. Wife took Lucas back to school and visited her sister, our daughter and one of our grandsons. She got home late which gave me an hour or so of quiet time after the weekend. I had a good discussion with the coach of "my" soccer girls. He had some interesting observations, one of which was that the parents don't complain at all as long as all the kids play. I am not quite sure what to make of that comment, but "my" soccer girls will get pounded again tonight. Maybe one of these days they will get tired of losing and show up to play, but I do not think it will be this season. I had streusel and cereal again on the dining car this morning for breakfast. I hope everyone has a good day.
Good morning,
Thought I had a burglar last night but it turned out to be a racoon after my trash can, heard a lot of noise about 11pm. Went outside after noise stopped and found trash can turned over in front of wife's car. This morning I had a big mess to clean up, had lid on with a bungie cord, racoon still managed to open trash can! Took Polaroid photo of racoon at trash can this morning around 7am, so I know what I have ravishing my trash, now how to stop the little guy, don't want to harm the racoon just stop his efforts. Going to Home Depot to find locking trash can or small plastic shed to put trash cans inside.
Going over to friend's house a little later this morning, maybe work on his train layout some.
Also doing another yard project, hooking up more sprinklers, this time to two palm trees.
Lee F.
GOOD MORNING
We have bright sun and 50s going to near 70. Boy that rain made the grass green and I can see it growing..I'll wait and let it dry out some before the cut. No plans for trains today as the noise bothers my head which still is not fixed. Next stop neurologist. Everyone have a good day and play nice.....S.J.
