WOOOOOO!!!! Was watching the end of a movie and suddenly it was 12 AM. Slept hard. Shoveled sand and rocks into truck and then undloaded in some "mud holes" [one at pond and two at Miss Dorothy's, very old black lady at entrance to pond path]. Big storm flew through. Got three tenths inches of rain in about 2 minutes. Got to set corn back up tomorrow AM. Miss Dorothy lost power and called me. I got the power co. to come fix here problem. She does not live in town limits. Just one of those widow ladies I try to help.
Sturg, saw that one. Thanks for including me in your layout.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a foggy 52 degrees. Going up to 77 today with sunshine. We had a few thunderstorms last night. Quiet after midnight.
Today is less busy. I have to do a few chores around the house and run an errand later. Need to spend some time in the train room. Trains need dusting again.
Dining car is here and it's time for breakfast. Later.
Y'all have a great Tuesday.

Morning!
Took family to Detroit Fireworks/Riverfest carnival last night. Fireworks didn't disappoint. 3-yo was able to go on her first poney ride!
1-1/2 hour just to get on the freeway...Traffic getting to freeway was miserable. We have second thoughts about going again...traffic getting back is just too much. Home about 1:00am.

Good morning all,
IIABSDISEI with temps in the 70s. Went to soccer practice last night for about an hour. Have practice again tonight. Watched part of "Antiques Roadshow" last night, which was a repeat. Surprised me in that they showed some low valued items. Did some more eBaying. Lucas finished his graduation "Thank you" notes, which was a better surprise. Potentially a lot of meetings today. I had the usual fare on the dining car this morning. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,

Morning all. Stormed all night - made all the 'palmetto bugs' come out - I call 'em cockroaches - haven't seen them this big since I lived in downtown Chicago. ;) Also found all the window leaks in this condo. LOL. Sunny today though so will take the youngest and bride back to the beach. I've managed to read through a lot of books - mostly novels - so far - even with having to stand out in the surf with the youngest. But it sure is beautiful - and gas is 'only' $3.89... Can you believe our teens - after sulking for a few days - still sleep 'til noon and mostly lay about the rest of the day watching TV. Nothing different from home, even with opportunities to play tennis, ride bikes, go to a pool, etc. And they eat... I think they've been to the beach once. Only a few more days of this. . .Saw a nice long mixed frieght (ie no containers) pulled by a big CSX GE unit and a little MP15AC moving north through the swamps along I-95...
Jack, I got the air "fixed" last week - a local garage replaced the hose structure that blew off. I notice the compressor groaning still at highway speeds - that can't be good but I'm pretending not to hear it. Hopefully will last the 1,100 miles home this weekend. The Chain of Lakes is quite near to me. It does oscillate up and down - now is very full - no wake, even closed for a few days - with all the rain we've been getting. Crystal Lake isn't part of the Chain though - just a big mile-and-a-half or two hole in the ground left by the glaciers.

Morning all from beautiful Southern Ohio
Sunny and 65. Today is bride's birthday so I am going to try and be good. I will be making a pie for her and I think a picnic is the plan.
RT- Glad the job is going good.
Jim- Utility knives, been there cut that. Most of my construction scars are from utility knives.
Laz- how are the stiches?
To all our left coast buddies, we are going to be around Oxnard and Ontario in the LA area this Thursday and Friday. Any train related things to see?
Take care and may God bless
Jim
HI GIZ,
Nice day again here at 60 this morning. Ran my usual 6 miler but started where I usually end just felt different and needed to look at scenery from a different perspective. Felt good.
Yesterday got my retaining wall built and today got to put a little patio area in next to wall. Wife wants to put bench out there to look at flowers.
JACK, remember pace yourself and take a few breaks.
BRUTUS, DA TARDIS ran great I needed that last nite. Glad you got to me before that big thunderstorm. We recieved about a quarter in o rain.
B GOOD or B GONE,

Good Morning
A sunny start with summer temps. forecast for the week, but we just can't get away from the storm threats.
Kurt,,I'm sure the kids liked the fireworks, and I love watching them but not worth all that you went through for 30 minutes of F.W. of course the kids did other things and they are young and should experience those things. I did not watch, as I said last night the idiot that added music should be tied to one of the big ka-booms.
Well I have another short round trip this morning and then I can goof off as usual.
Enjoy your day,,,,S.J.

Yoddleladie-yoddleladie-yoddle-loo, boys. Partly sunny & 61 here in Stowe, VT. It was smooth sailing all the way up here. Hit my marks with a few miutes to spare each leg. Rolled into the Trapp Family Lodge about 1630. Only trains we saw on the way up was a meet of NS and CP trains just east of Cooperstown, NY, and a Hi-Rail truck in Central Rutland. A little bummed about not seeing any shortline/regionals running around.
Hi-light of the evening was as we were going to dinner, we passed Maria VonTrappe (youngest daughter of the original 7, now 93) in the main hall. But fifey's-wifey was too star-struck and timid to go up and meet her. Oh well, 2 more days.

wife says she would of gone up to meet here in a new york minute. She loves that story and would feel honored to meet her. But she was wondering if you had name right as she thought maria was the step mother but I did some reading on the net and told her there accually were 10 not 7 and the youngest was also marria even thou they didn't have here in the movie.
Sending you a email
Morning. Sweating from vacuming a A/C's house???? Wife gone and Burg is sheding puppies [big chunks of hair even though you brush him]. Now to go set up the corn that blew down. Groundhog moved to shelter as it rained. Wants to stay dry I guess. Burg almost caught him. Looks like corn and rat poison is missing from one hole entrance protected from dogs by some wood]. Hate to get him that way. Rather shoot and kill than let him die slowly.
Off to Tractor Supply and Lowe's later. Then Town Hall. Have a good one.

No music! We actually watched from my Bride's office in the Renaissance Center. Way too loud outside for the 1-yo.
I don't know if you've been to Greektown lately, but it's not the same...Hella's is closed. They were my favorite for stuffed grape leaves, and a flamming plate of cheese... Ooopa! A few other restaurants have left as well. Ended up eating at the Loco Bar, for mexican food. I think the casino is really taking it's toll down there.
Got some much needed rain in the past 24, though it came in violent bursts. Weeds loved it, and the grass greened up nicely. Almost time to mow, though some more t-storms expected today.
Chief....sweating while vacuuming in an A/Ced house? Yup. Too much corn fed beef, Mexican food, or an a/c compressor capacity that is too large, doesn't run long enough to strip out humidity? I ran mine yesterday and the btu capacity is just adequate, so the units run longer. Humidity in the house last night was still 60%. Have you got a digital indoor humidity thingy to check?
RT.....ya gotta love it when a plan comes together as yours has done (so far). Hope wifey is not casting furtive glances at your train room for her own uses. It's time for a pre-emptive strike and drop the subtle seed that you are really going to need that layout more than ever to work off some of the work stress and long hours. A train room sounds more productive to me than a "fill in the blank" room. But that's me.
Kurt.....no pics of the little one and you riding the "range?" No ouzo? I've got some great shots and video of wifey and now 4 yo granddaughter riding together on elephants and camels. The elephants are harder because of their girth.....Mrs. Rock got muscle cramps and subsequently paralyzed in the thighs and groin area from doing unnatural splits, no kidding.
Fife.....glad you took a laptop with you and reported in. On schedule? That would never happen here because my wife insists we stop for potty and food breaks, commencing with the first one about 50 miles out. I've been near Laz' place on Route 81 many times in the 90's, driving back and forth to Carlisle (454 miles one way), and we never made the 7 hour trip without at least 2 stops, none of which was for fuel. Von Trapps' story is truly fascinating, particularly the part after they moved to America. Nice choice of lodging, memorable if for that reason only.
Brent....good news, Susan well enough to go back to work. Bad news, to get that expected surprise, what got done wrong and what didn't get done and piled up on her desk. That can be discouraging if not overwhelming. Hope she takes it easy and has factored in a couple of half days on the return to work's front end. Usually the Doc's firt post op recemmendation which we all tend to ignore.
MikeC.....it warms my heart to see parents who won't let the youngers take a pass when it comes to etiquette and a simple hand-written thank you note. Sad to say that many of the current generation (my kids included) don't seem to to understand that they are not the center of the universe and should take the time to acknowledge a gift, no matter how modest or appreciated, with more than a thank you in person, on the phone, by email, or text message. "Wassup gramma? Tanks for gift. Ralph."
DougM.....my FIL says something went South with one of the islands that "moved" in the Chain of Lakes, Army Corp of Engineers checking. Glad the auto a/c issue didn't set you back. Re the teens' boredom on vacations. They graze all night and watch tv and are then grouchy and non-compliant all day (starting at noon). When they get older, they become more like us and get some mileage out of the vacations they join us in. But by then, they want to direct the choir.....didn't read the "vacation participants manual" that says the parents are the Camp Directors, and they are merely the instruments of our policy. Suggestions taken under advisement.
Jim S/P......I never carve myself up with a utility knife on the big jobs, like removing rooms full of carpeting, cutting it up, and bundling for disposal. It's always the minute jobs where I'm not thinking about what I'm doing and am thinking about the next step. Ouch!!!!!!!
Laz.....I agree with the others, we need an update on your stitches and upcoming tatoo you selected to cover up the scar. I still vote for Chief's avatar or a butterfly. You're advice on interval training to work onesself up to a contiguous run is perfect. Until the joints are lubing themselves (add glucosimine and condroitin supplements) and compliant, leg muscles developed, tendons stretched, and the heart/lung/cardio has a chance to adapt. Many of us don't have the patience to ease back into 'it' after years of a more sedentary existence and wind up back at the Doctor's office with joint issues or worse.
Continued prayers for all those on the mend.
Jack

A parking lot in downtown Detroit is hardly 'the range'...I did get bad cell phone photos, to show the Bride, our exploits, as she 'didn't like the crowds', and stayed in the office with the 1-yo. She requested I take the 1-yo as well...

Good Afternoon Y'all!
Well, it is a slow schedule today, but we make up for it the rest of the week. Started this morning with taking bride and kids to a farm that one of the guys I work with owns. Picked blueberries and blackberries. Time to make some cobbler. Was a great time with the family and it was wonderful seeing the kids enjoy it as much as they did.
Have some prospects for filling the position we have available. I pray it goes quick and we get the right guy in here as a bad one could make for a difficult situation.
Jim, please pass along "Happy Birthday" wishes to your bride. Hope she and you have a great day.
Fife, VT is a pretty state. Lots of wackos, but still very nice. We used to go up there a few times a year when I was a child. Have a friend who was CFO of Ben & Jerry's, had a great house. Enjoy your vacation.
Chief, you are a good person as much as you take care of the widow ladies. Common for farmers to leave the corners of the fields un harvested for the less fortunate around these parts. Just like they did in scripture. Just don't see that in many places anymore.
Well, have some stuff to attend to. Hope everyone has a great night.
God Bless,

GOOD EVENING ALL
I just enjoyed a nice summer day, ran a few errands this morning,I like to do those things early then it's done with. No train running today, took a short walk and this evening I sat on the porch and watched the people go by. So that was it, nothing to report. Have a good one.
Brutus, I went to Kroger they had a sale on Breyers so, I got p-can for you p-con for me,strawberry and more banilla. Are you ready? S.J.
Hi guys,
Catching up from yesterday's posts! Jack, I'm finishing the whole basement, that room will have my future layout in it. Laz, Don and RT, glad you guys made it to the Tardis trip last night. I was running so late, but just set the way-back control to 8PM and it worked like a charm! Kurt, sounds like you had a good time despite that long ride! Doug - my wife Hates those bugs. She lived in Florida for a while and had a few bad experiences. Glad you have the AC again! Jim S-P, yeah, I knew better. It was a rookie mistake, LOL. Okay, that explains the first time! Where are those work gloves? Hey, happy birthday to Mrs. Phish! Sir James, I have to agree on that - they crank up the music way too much. Chewy hates fireworks, though! Auf Wedersehen, Fifey! CSX - good luck on those tables! Dennis, did you say cobbler? Okay, I think I know where the Tardis is going tonight! Sir James, I found Doug on the map, lets grab Kurt, Laz, Don, RT, Chief and anybody else with a rotating beacon shining out the window and head to Georgia!
Waiting for the tarus can't wait to get some of that P-con icecream sir james has. Been basicly a lazy day except for the 4 hours I went in to work. Wife wants to go here there and every where tomorrow ( like we have a million dollars to spend and pay day isn't till friday lol. )
did get some things corrected at work they didn't have me down correctly for time served in the service. I'm supose to earn 8 hours vacation every payday and they were only crediting me for 6. don't sound like much but that would of cost me 52 hours in a year or 6 and 1/2 days of vacation time. Also took in paperwork that stated how much I made (base pay) my 16 years 9 months and 13 days I was in the military. I have to pay back 3% of that to get my retirement thru the V.A.
Good Evening from cool Southern Ohio
Bride had a wonderful birthday. The grandkids were up and we had a great time. We grilled hot dogs and had lemon pie for dessert.
We are leaving for vacation in the morning and will be off line till July 5th. You all take care of each other.
May God bless
Jim.....wife has a wonderful birthday, then a great time with the grandkids, and now you take her on vacation for 10 days. You're making the rest of us look bad. Enjoy!
Howdy All.
Boy the difference a day makes, absolutely gorgeous today. Mid 80's after the mid 100's and even a little bit cooler tomorrow, no a/c all windows and doors open.
Great weekend at the museum, spent a good bit of time talking to a family from Minneapolis, the elder son maybe 7 or 8 ran a couple of my trains using TMCC. He had only used DCS at home, liked it but missed all the options of his DCS.
Chief, Have you heard anything from Big Boy or Big Girl lately ? Hope he is doing well.

So I can't keep my nose out of the pot, but how right you are Sir James, They are at it over here. With musak running through just about everything from the news to wildlife documentaries. The worst offender being the BBC, held as the epiphany of broadcasting standards, what's the point of recording the natural world if some moron plays tasteless garbage across it.
