Hey guys...long time no post to the pot.   Hope everyone is doing OK.  I'm sitting in the hotel lobby here in LA waiting to go to work.  Can't wait ti get home and run some trains.  Was thinking about getting the PM 1225 out the new Lionel catalog but the FEF is mighty appealing.  I don't know which one it will be yet.  Saw some videos of the FEF and it looked pretty sweet.  And considering I saw the real one...

Take care

Morning all....

Boy do I ever have some good customers!  This one guy comes in 3 or 4 times a year, and always wants to talk about cars.  Each time he ends up saying he is going to bring me Nascar tickets so don't buy any including the hospitality booths.  But, the race has usually come and gone and don't see him for a month after.  Then he starts all over again.  Well I can see that he has taken my well being to heart, and spared me the discomfort of going to the race with the possibility of rain.  Its really nice to know that someone is concerned that much about you so as not to promote you getting exposed to inclement weather.  It seems he has spared me the tickets again.

Going to spend the day with the switches, I have 14 done and about 6 to go.  Can really be time consuming, but hopefully soldering the wires will prevent future issues.  Will have to try and post some pics.  Right now just getting them all wired up to the AIU's.  Did some testing last night and so far so good.

Hope everyone has a  great day, its going to be wet here.

Morning all. Just got back from getting the oil changed in the van. The kids and bride are walking around texting each other from different floors in the house. Sigh.

Mike, glad you're OK. That is what matters especially with an event on an Interstate. I remember spinning out on an off-ramp and ending up facing on-coming traffic. Yikes. I'm sorry for the hassles you are going throug post-accident.

Brutus, Amtrak is a fantastic deal between St.L and Chicago. And its fast. The UP has been ugrading their track for 115 mph experiments with state support. Yep, goes into Union Station. Hmmm, road trip to Missouri. We missed all the bad weather for once. The book on the Tallyn  (sp) railway in Wales is a wonderful read.

Buckeye, conceal / carry is legal in OH? I figured it is OK in the South as they have to fight off cougars and mountain lions; no such joy here in Illinois.

Roy, I like your idea for multiple glasses lens. I can just see them spinning with the TMCC controller. LOL.

Hey Chief,

Interesting way of putting it by saying that I have a smart wife!

Wife came home yaesterday and said her car's air conditioning felt like it quit, checked it out this morning and looks like the A.C. needs freon as the site glass has bubbles in it.

Got most of my painting done yesterday in the train room, only part of one wall left to paint.

A really grand day here today! Crisp, sunny, 50's - too nice. Hope it holds up.

Don - sure glad that guy didn't stress you out with those NASCAR tickets - now you do not have to decide who to take, etc., etc.

Watching the NASCAR truck race right now - doesn't look like any rain in sight at this point.

Spoke to the the Chief briefly - he has an update on Dr. John for you that he will post later.

Afternoon!

Radiused corner of layout, and installed a plate truss siding from 2x4.  2x4 is about the same width as the center to center track spacing, and provides area to secure track to top of wood.  Will add some width to the sides in the spring.  Contemplating train storage drawers under the siding.  Wood is wet...so I'll wait a few days before painting.

Maybe Novi Train show tomorrow with eldest daughter.

Date night tonight!  Dinner and a hot tub!  Hubba Hubba.

Doug, we've got concealed carry in Missouri too.  It was going to be a bloodbath when it passed, but then nothing.  One thing I noticed is that in the City of St L, they went against it and won't issue permits.  Crime central.  OTOH, I don't own a gun so it's no big deal for me.  My Dad has a whole collection I'll inherit one day including a broom handle Mouser - I intend to keep that one!

I was thinking you probably have some good train stores and Powells books and stuff there in Chicago, so maybe I would come hook up with you some time this Summer?  If you come here, we can hit Electrictrains and the Kirkwood Hobby Station.  We don't have any really great bookstores around here as far as I know, just Barnes and Noble or Borders.

Got to Electrictrains on Page today, man that store is great!  The guys were really nice and I had my son and his friend with me, who had a great time checking everything out!  Their enthusiasm was really great and tickled all the people there!  We were in a hurry, which was good for me, since I could have spent a lot more money there!

I picked up some more sections of gargraves track and 2 manual Ross switches, a LH and a RH, both regulars (11 degrees).  I also picked up some caboose manual throws.  I will probably upgrade them to remotes later, but there is a newer motor out and I wanted to save that $20 price difference for later and get the better motor then -- it's supposed to be TMCC controlled right out of the box.  When I get started on a big layout in a few months, I might be thinking about going with TMCC or Legacy or DCS then....  We'll see!

I didn't know that these caboose throws don't come with screws or nails?  What ones should I use - anybody know?  Guess I'll have to run to some closer hobby store, what a pity Wink [;)]

No word from Chief yet, so praying for Dr. John and his family and flock.

I found a magazine that I had not seen before called Robot it 99% adds for kits and prebuilt robots Sad [:(] looked at the subcription card and they only come out 4 times a year for about the same as train magizines. I thought 8 or 9 issues was bad but only 4Wow!! [wow]

Hope to be back at work sometime soon so I can get a positive cash flow going again.

Can't wait till warm weather will let me begin construction on layout.

Sorry I did not post about Dr. John.  Talked to him the other day.  East Prattville was hit but his area and the Church was not.  Had a few members that were hit.  Badly damaged a K-Mart and damaged Walmart.  Walmart was back open but he said K-MArt might never open again.  Had a couple of folks still in shelter but most in hotels.  Did not get close to BPS.

Been to Miss Edna's.  Took her a Jerry a big bag of turnips.  Mine are still growing.  Had some as big as a soft ball.  Resting up.  Left eye is reda and watering along with stuffy nose.  Got to be shirt sleeve weather again.  No wonder evreyone is sick.  Right at freezing and then jumps to warm.

Hey guys, I'm NOT in the dog house!  Everything cool here, I even let her work yesterday while I was wiring switches.

BTW, got the switches and AIU ALL wired up.  How many of you are running your switches through DCS???  Its really cool when you select ALL Switches and press the straight button, and you here this click, click, click all over the place.   Its really awesome!

I'm going to break tradition and open the SPF early tonight, and post some pics, by the time I get to it its very late in the day.

Going to be working control panel lights next.

Roy, Little hope for tomorrow's race, it IS raining now.  Started about 45 minutes after the truck race.  The mountains that were in the background I believe was Big Bear, that's the local skiing area.

(Sure Hope Dr. John is OK !!!)

Evening All

OK guys get a coffee and wake up the Chief,he probably took some Nyquil and is sleeping in his chair. I did get to run some trains this afternoon and made some more shelf space by giving my oldest son about 40 volumes of Time/Warner (I think)WW2 books. Got them by mail one at a time years ago, but needed the space and time to pass them on anyway. Of course they are probably worth a good size engine by now. also gave DIL a set of books on gardening.

We had a nice sunny day at about 34 degrees were good till sometime on Monday when that mess on the west coast gets here. I haven't heard from Chewy since the moon turned red, Me thinks she is hiding....S.J.

Good evening all,

First of all, thank you for all the kind comments and good wishes.  I had to drive the rental to Indy for a class.  It was kind of odd going past where the accident occurred, especially with the roads being slick again.  I made it up there and back ok.  Sort of like getting back on the horse after being thrown.

It was so strange how it all happened.  I was driving fairly conservatively and saw flashing lights up ahead.  I realized the road was blocked and touched the brakes to slow down.  Then I realized how slick the road was.  If a van had not been parked in the other lane, I would not have had any damage.  It busted the grill, and the radiator and fan are joined together.  Fortunately, the impact was slow enough the airbags did not go off.  After I stopped and got out, some one tagged me in the rear as well.  It was  a long and eventful day.  I am glad the week is over.  Next week will have to be better.

I had a little different fare for breakfast today.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Sir J, you are close to right.  Different med. Dead [xx(]  LAZ, good question. Wink [;)]  Mike, while drivng in the snow in ID, I got to really feel the antilock brakes on the rental.  The hard pounding on the foot by the brake pedal.  It came to a stop with out locking up.  Hope all sleep well.  Good night all.

Sorry Sir James - wife and kids have been sick and I've been busy getting stuff ready for training every night, so have been lax in my duties.  Chewy is doing fine!  She was a VERY GOOD GIRL today!  Wife had all kinds of families coming over to pick up cookies all day and Chewy was great, guarding the door and not running off - except for once, when the neighbor's cat showed up.  This cat is the bane of Chewy's little life.  It will taunt her from the deck outside.  Well, Chewy was off like a shot!  She got nose to nose with the cat and my wife yelled "Chewy!  Get back in the house!"  Well, she just turned and went inside.  I guess she was showing the cat a little attitude, like - you want a piece of me now?  The cat stood still and did not attack or back off.  I'm really glad that Chewy was obedient and a good girl.

Sorry, we'll bring over some pecan pie, banilla icecream and rootbeer tomorrow as a peace offering!

Good news on Dr. John!

Don, I just made that remark about the doghouse because Kurt was seeking some lebensraum in the livingroom for his train and I was hoping things would go off without a hutch - er, hitch!  Laugh [(-D]

Ok I can understand the Wolverines...They can get a little feisty when provoked...but Lions?  They have been pretty tame around here for years.  Michigan has a CCW permit too.

Brutus:  Revised layout from reverse loop to a siding.  Loop was taking up too much desk space, and looked a little weird.  Still can't figurre out where the new crane is going to go.

HI GIZ,

Well went to ALLENTOWN TRAIN MEET yesterday.  Nice, got there at about 1130 AM and saw that it was crowded but not to bad.  Got a few things I needed like a few LED and some pewter people for my "seedy"part o town.  Mainly cops (FIFE) and a few guys running away from the cops.  NO GIRLS, GIZ.  I also got a nice VW Micro bus for $7.00.  And a guy was selling carboard back drops with industrial images on them.  Got the whole lot 9 for $20.  Not to bad, nothing really got me to excited.  BUDDY and BROTHER scored real good deal with cars, people, and a few engines(dockside switchers) from CHUCK RO for $80.  Afterwards, went to a nice Italian resturante and had a great meal.  Came back here ran trains for DA BOYS.  NO PILE UPS, foe an hour and a half,  then near the  end O NITE when KA BOOM, MAJOR PILE UP!!!!!  My SD40 and FEF caught each other when the DS40 back end caught the fef front end.  Coal cars all over.   GIZ and I laughed, NO MAJOR DAMAGE.  First BIG PILE UP IN A LONG TIME.  And I was soo proud of a good record of running the engines.

O WELL?

Good Morning,

Laz-If you can't take better care of your toys, we may have to put them away for awhile.

Brutus-I know you've been busy with the training,I like your cat story, we had a dog that that was tormented by a squirrel that would run along the top of the fence and then race across the yard, dog right behind.

My wife left me in charge of a giant cooker of chile, not to bright on her part, the sunday school classes are having a theme dinner after church, each class is bringing food found in other countries. Always plenty to eat. Did you ever notice just a spoon of this and that ends up being way more than we should have. And then there is all the pies, cakes, ect.maybe full of chile by then and just have dessert. No I am not double dipping,I just scoop a bowl through the pot.     Chief and others that are ailing, feel better soon,,,,later     S.J.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a beautiful, sunny day. It's only 10 degrees, though. Going up to a hot 38 today. With sunshine.

Had a problem getting into CTT this morning. Finally did. Today is a relaxing day. Nascar race from CA, on this afternoon. Hope it doesn't rain there. Spent about 3 hours in the train room, yesterday. Had the whole layout running. Lots of fun.

Dining car was here and we had breakfast. Then, it left for.............. " points east ".

Y'all have a great Sunday.
