You are absolutely right. I could go on and on about the subject, but I won't. I retired from GM, and I get a good pension. I also buy GM.

Since the writers' strike is over, the posts on this forum should be much better.  Smile [:)]

Read through the forum,  Nothing unusual happened while I was gone.  Same old Yankee BS.  BTW: Buckeye does not know anything about cruises.  There WERE big bowls of GRITS every morning. Tongue [:P]  Now to sum up a cruise.  It is wading through tons of cleavage and legs Shock [:O] with the stench of sun tan oil to get to mounds of food Dinner [dinner] and gallons of drink.  Laugh [(-D]  For you guys with a weak heart, do not take a cruise.  All my bird feeders filled and off to feed the deer [who are wondering, "Why doesn't he write?"].  Later

TOYOTA, NOT! American!!!

In today's global economy, we have to be careful how we define "American" companies. For example, for the past ten years (until last August) Dodge was wholly owned by a German company, DaimlerChrysler, which still owns 20% of Chrysler LLC. (Are you sure that Dodge wasn't running a Mercedes engine?) Smile [:)]

In 2006, Dodge sold only 1.3 million vehicles worldwide (not sure how many in the U.S.) while Toyota sold 2.5 million vehicles in the U.S. alone, most of which were made here, as well.

It's funny, while we tend to think of companies such as Lionel as "American" companies, Lionel doesn't have a single manufacturing job in the U.S., and does far more to support the Chinese economy than it does the U.S. economy.

While that "foreign" company, Toyota, has created 35,000 new manufacturing jobs here in the U.S., and pumps about 15.5 billion dollars into the U.S. economy each year.

Morning guys, got up early-ish so I won't have trouble falling asleep tonight and be set back tomorow at work.  Tomorrow starts the training cycle - oh boy!  It will be fine, but lots of stuff to cover.  Will do taxes in a little while, then need to do some work on basement and check front gutter (I think it might be plugged up???).  It was warmish yesterday, but also raining - maybe in the 40's?  Thank God that Kelly got home okay, Doug!  Icy roads are the worst.  I read her blog after your post yesterday.  Hope Dr. John is okay, Roy!  Okay, I will be on later for sure, so all take it easy!

PS - Don, I hear you are singing "Ding Dong, The Switch is Dead?"  Laugh [(-D]  Good luck, I love working on stuff like that, but it can sure be frustrating!

OK... Everyone wake UP !

Heard from the Chief this morning, he's on the way back!!

Will most likely be here soon!  Currently in Fort Lauderdale, waiting for a flight.

Early report.... Mrs. Chief had a great time, enjoyed the cruise.

"The Chief" ate a LOT, used lots of baby oil, and apparently there is a delay in Fort Lauderdale flight.  Something about they were trying to find flights with extra seats on them, (something about expanded girth needed ??)

(Buckeye, Chuck, Laz,Brutus,Fife, Brent, and you others, I suggest you go back and delete all those posts you put up on Saturday.)

edit - Good job on the purge!!

Have a great day

Morning all. Went to bed early last evening. Feel better today. Quiet here in Chicago due to the holiday. Supposed to be sub-freezing all week. Sigh. I like the idea for Brent's book. I would buy a copy. Laz, I till can't get used to speaking about our trains and 'rebooting' in the same sentences. LOL. Got some photos to share in the photo thread.

Laz, when you encountered your troubles were that at start-up or during a regular run? If it was at start-up, I seem to remember this can happen if the shutdown and start-up sequence is not followed to the letter. I believe this was a big discussion at that other forum.

DOUG, was during the run.  Might have to do the reboot but just want to try a few things I just read.  One is about putting Lagacy on after being unplugged and a spike happening when start up.  Going to conduct my own experiment and have the base left on without the handheld in the saddle to see what will happen?  Its going to be hard not playing with trains for a few days?

Laz,
Sure will be tough, but in the long run if you can figure out what happened and avoid it in the future that is a good thing! Saves My 2 cents [2c] on repairs!

Laz, sometimes my computer can't find the wireless router until I reboot, then it is fine?  Maybe some interference from a wireless phone or computer or something?  Doug, glad no damage or injury - that ice can be scary!  Yeah, had a little visit with folks, then let son spend almost all of his birthday money.  Daughter and I had a good time dancing with her friends, but the food wasn't very good at all (as usual).  CSX - big congrats on that weight loss, keep going man!  Dunno guys, but I'm tired.  Think I'll chill out - might be back tonight, but if not TTFN!

WHAT? If I did that it would reduce my train room time! Shock [:O]

FiL gave me about 20 feet of carpet padding to use on the train layout today! Thumbs Up [tup] I think he's got the bug too, but he won't admit it. I asked him today if he would like to set up his trains in his basement. He smiled but did not responde... I think that is a 'YES!' Whistling [:-^]

YO ROCKY,

Legacy is the new systm that Lionel just came out with.  It really is great to control all your engines from a handheld remote.  Still has a few bugs though.  Like everything else it all must be worked out.

CSZect, way to go!  I've got a buddy doing the same drill.  Down 48  and 82 to go.  He's finally using all that exercise equipment he had accumlated over the years and has a partner in crime doing this whole thing with him.  He's psyched as I'll bet you are.

Doug, glad your wife wasn't hurt.  I had a near death experience once, got clipped by a guy taking an interstate exit from the left lane, and I wound up kissing (smacking) a guardrail at speed.  The car was totalled, the state trooper at the scene observed I was alive only because I was belted in, and I hobbled away with a busted up knee (surgery).  Wear dem belts.

I'm worried that Chief is in the ship infirmary with a good looking nurse, telling her he's the President of a railroad.  Worried for the nurse, that is.

Nick, my wife has relatives in Braintree and Chelmsford.  Spent a week on a UK road trip with them.  Got to see some proper English pubs in the hinterlands.  And the history is stunning.

Laz, sorry to hear about the Legacy woes.  I'm a postwar guy.  What's Legacy?

Brent, you should write a book to fund your trains addiction.  Topic: How to get your in-laws to feed you and clean up after you while you watch NASCAR, uninterrupted.  Only thing missing is the dog that fetches beer from the fridge.  Chewey's dew claw issue was probably suffered getting Brutus refills......right Jim?  Dog's teeth punctures beer can.  Dog cleans up the evidence.  Dog staggers, falls down the stairs, and goes on injured reserve.

Brutus, my in-laws love it when we visit because they wind up eating stuff for a week they never try but keep thinking about.  Your folks are probably scheming how to milk this recovery thing AND get the grandkids for visits.  Home run for them.

Jack
