Stopped by the house to change before heading to dinner... I wonder if they will let me take pictures in the restaurant?

Afternoon all!

Fife - welcome back - Dude!

Doug d' G' - In a very small nutshell - Proto 1 is all conventional - IMO was the start of improved sounds and control for toy trains, no speed control so speed is whatever the loco gearing and conventional control units (i.e. Lionel TPCs and Z-4000 conv control with remote capability as you are using) give you. Proto 2 (more sound improvement) and DCS (digital control system) come together and bring a full suite of remote control sound and train control (speed/cruise control with 2-3 SMPH common, station sounds, selectable chuff rate per driver revolution, smoke control, etc.).

Cloudy and raining on and off here. Not a lot of rain at my house - but a lot of thunder, some rain, and consistent drizzle/light showers since about midnight. Probably less than 3/4 inch at my house. If you believed the weather guys last night - we were all going to float away with 5 inches of rain.

Brent - have a nice dinner Dinner [dinner]

Have a great day all!

Regards, Roy

Mornin' All.....

Still a little pooped from yesterday at the museum, busy, busy !

My R.I. E-6's got quite the work-out yesterday. After a bit of a break-in period they spent the better part of the day running a nice passenger consist around. Ran them with both the TPC and a Z-4000 in conventional but they seemed to run rather slow although I did get really good station announcements with the Cab-1/TPC but not very good with the DCS handheld/Z-4000, guess I didn't quite have the touch for the bell & whistle button routine. Later switched over to DCS and made a world of difference with regard to speed and the station sounds control, for what this set cost it is a definite keeper.

Maybe you guys a little more versed in Proto 1 & 2 can shed some lite on the speed thing. I have a couple of P-1 that in conventional you can either crawl or fly using the Cab-1/TPC or MTH Handheld. But this is my first P-2 diesel loco so I have no experience for comparison, is this normal as far as speed is concerned ?

That storm that came thru here on thursday sure played havoc out in the back country. There was so much snow and ice on the roads, plus howling winds, that they had to close down most of the roads as well as I-8. One of the Indian casinos was turned into an evac center when a couple o' hundred cars were stranded from road closures. There was very measurable amounts of snow in places that had rarely if ever had a snow flurry. I guess you could say we were lucky, lots of rain and hail but no snow on the ground, although it did make for a pretty sunrise yesterday before heading out to the museum.

One other comment on the weather, most of these idiots can't drive in good weather and rain makes it worse but it absolutely Boggles the mind what a nightmare it would have been with snow. Shock [:O] Dead [xx(] Grumpy [|(]

GOOD MORNING ALL

Sunny and 20,going to be nice today for Mich. that is. tomorrow everything is forecast, freezing rain,to sleet, to rain ,to sleet,to snow. did you get all that?

Ah little girls,my daughter and friends would rent scary movies for their sleepovers and of course dear ole dad would sneek in and scare them. What scared them the most is I would always tell them I walked around the house in the nude no matter who was here.

There's a big train show today about 40 miles away, so not sure if I am going or not.Its over Kurts way.   Every one enjoy the weekend, although I'm not sure about our sunday.  S.J.

Morning all. Fife, glad to 'see' you back. Laz, that would be a nice curve in 027. I have to look for track like that - haven't seen more than its traditional curves. Brutus, you reminded me of great memories of similar dances with my daughter. She and her two friends stayed over last night. After hours of enjoyable track-work, I watched Animal Planet before midnight. Buckeye, can't wait to see a bridge built to your high standards. Chuck, just missed your dining car. Wink [;)]More fun working on the layout after cleaning the house. Supposed to storm overnight and I'm serving as vid director at church tomorrow. Guess I'll have to finally shave and clean myself up. Good Morning Folks,

Could not sleep in so i have been up since 5:00, made breakfast, read the paper, straightened up the house, working on computer, etc.

Lots of chores to do and also work for online class. Will have to get things finished so I can watch the Daytona 500 tomorrow.

Going out to dinner with friends tonight, so it should be an enjoyable evening.  We get togheter with two other couples that we have known for over 20 years and try to have an evening out the first weekend of the month. Last Friday or the first Friday didn't work due to the Mrs.'s injured foot so it got pushed back to this weekend.

Have a great day.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It's a cold and sunny 17 degrees. Going up to 38 today with sunshine.

Today is a busy day. We have company coming this afternoon. Will be here for supper. Niece and 4 year old son. He likes trains.

I spent a few hours , yesterday, running trains. Cleaned up the room. All ran good. Worked a little on scenery.

Buckeye...You are up early today. I heard you like to mow the grass at sunrise. Great picture.

Dining car has just arrived. Had an unscheduled stop at Roger's Corners and now we can have breakfast. Then it is off to " points west ".

Y'all have a great Saturday.

The owner picked up a collection, mostly 1970's and the majority tankcars, from a collector in south GA this week and got back to the store yesterday.  He had his cargo van and a 12' trailer packed to the roof.  We spent the day unpacking to check the inventory against the list, boxes were prepacked for pick up, and will probably be doing the same today.

The owner is doing a show in Jacksonville next weekend and'll be taking a lot of the stuff with him, a majority of which are tankers, he'll get a nickname as the Tankcar King.

Morning from a cold Stockport -5C overnight high of +4C today. High pressure is holding us in a chilly grip, been this way last 7 days and forecasts the same for the next 7.

Beginning to miss Lionel. But I cannot fill my home with a toy train set, much as I would like to! There is a model railway club just down the road, SWMBO suggests that I go and see what the chances are of someone there being on the same wavelength and joining with me in creating a club layout. You never know? There could be an opportunity to expand interest in Lionel over here.

Footy for the morons today, so I will stay at home, going to make Chicken Jalfrezi and fried rice for our main meal, the boss is out shopping with her friend at Ashton outdoor market. It will help to warm her up when she returns.

Spent two plus hours in the train room and the dining room tonight. The circuit for level 4 quit a couple months ago so spent time trying to find the problem. When I first wired the ZW and 4 power masters I didn't label the wires and cables so a lot was hit and miss. Thought I had everything OK but circuit 4 still didn't want to work. Took the ZW, command base and 4 power masters out to the dining room, wired everything up and of course it worked fine!!! I guess the problem is between the ZW and the track. Will try to figure that out tomorrow.

Couple of cool nights in Jax. 31 the night before last but back up to the low 70's today. I hope the rest of February and March are no worse than this.

Thoughts and prayers to all with special needs right now. Losing family and friends is never easy and; for some of us not so young, we see more of it every year.

Hi guys, in-laws are visiting and severely depleted my cookie supply, might have to forage abroad.  Took my little girl to the Father-daughter dance at school and had a good time.  There is another one for girlscouts on Sunday - woohoo!  Training starts on Tuesday, this time I'm the trainer, so trying to fight off a little anxiety - I'm really sure it will be fine, but I am just have trouble turning it off after running around all week getting stuff ready as some of the folks seem to be in a panic for some reason Sigh [sigh]  Hope to sleep good tonight, though Zzz [zzz]

FiL likes toy trains, so hope to run my newest stuff for him while they are visting - I think he'll get a real kick out of the protosounds on my 19th C train esp!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

There's your real Valentines day, Roy. What a day here! Watched a gaggle of 6 yr olds all day - met a bunch of small fry off their buses when their folks were stuck in traffic  - barely got the middle boy to his drop-off point in time - now have a house full of girls getting ready for some dance - and somehow I fit in work. Another two hours and I'm setting up my track work in the basement - whoops, gotta feed everyone too.

Doug,

Our son is going on a church ski trip with the jr & sr. groupto Colorado over Spring break - 16 hours+. No we will not be chaparoning that one - and my daughter will be on a sr. high school trip to NYC - so me and the missus will have the house all to ourselves for the better part of a week - we all know what that means Evil [}:)]. The perceived scenario has our kids completely grossed out - most excellent!

Brent make sure you buy Lexan not Plexiglass. We use Lexan at work all the time. It is so flexable you can bend it in a break at 90 Deg. Plexiglass will not bend as easy and has a tendancy to get brittle with age. Home Depot sells Lexan.

I found the 1/8" plywood at Fingerle's Hardware Store.  Large local lumber supplier here in Ann Arbor, $20 4'x8' sheet.

Didn't have to soak ot or heat it, worked it around by hand, and added brads as I went along.  I only had a 2' radius to cover.  Are you going with or against the grain?  I found it easier to bend if the grain ran in the direction of the bend.  Maybe try a hot iron without steam.  The moisture might affect the glue holding the plies.

Kurt

I'm not sure.  This stuff is VERY rigid, it may not even be plywood (it could be a sythentic cor with sheer veneer of wood over top).

I may not need the plywood now... here's what I'm thinking...

use plexiglass along the tunnel straights so you can view the trains in the tunnel, then on the curved corners, I can model rock walls... this would provide some interesting options on the second level corners. On one I'm thinking of putting a #38 Water Tower and depot. On the other corner I was thinking a rough hewn tunnel...

Brent, just a thought, but several manufacturers make a New York Susquehanna and Western boxcar in the "Susie Q" scheme.  It might be a nice surprise for the bride.  I have several and you can find them from Lionel, Weaver, Atlas, etc.

Dennis,
Actually I had just that very idea - since the layout will be known as 'The Susieq Falls Scenic Railroad' they would fit in with the theme as well - after I saw the add in OGRR for the LCCA Ontario Northland and Susquehanna Covered Hopper set. I just wish I could get the Susquehanna Hopper by itself!

If you have some time, can you get me the numbers so I can look them up?  I'll be doing some web searches as well.  Thanks for the tip - didn't know there were other 'Susieq' items out there!

Edit - Nevermind I found a few to monitor! Thumbs Up [tup]
