Hey Tom still hanging in over here I see. Nice heralds all classics to be sure.Those CN RDC3's were generally set up with the RPO,they were changed over when they went to VIA afterwards.
A GMD 1 for everyone to enjoy.This one is in the former NS&T Merriton Yard in St Catharines On when it was leased to Trillum rail in the late 90's.

Fine looking RDC-3 from Rob! As mentioned at the bar, those units came in two configurations - one seating 40 passengers 'n the other as an RPO with baggage compartment. Don't see those on the rails these days . . .
Surprised, but pleased to see Nick found his way to this lonely Thread - good stuff, as usual from our Chief Chef at the bar!

Hey tom that's a nice one, I have to say though that I liked the green scheme with the dogwood logo on the BC Rail but hey it's just paint Nice to see James and Shane pop in with their comments as well Jame's I too wish I had taken more photo's of the blue smoothside VIA cars,they never did it for me on those early pictrue taking runs I went on in the mid to late 80's. Once I sarted to notice them they were basically gone replaced by the Budd's and the LRC equipment ( not that there is anything wrong with them either )

Yeah, Rob - we at times are definitely at the short-end of the string on this Thread . . . it's had the "disappearing railroad blues" pretty much since inception . . .
I see Shane has popped "in" with a comment or two . . .
James - Guess it's all in the expectations regarding what one expects from RDCs or any other mode of rail transport. After spending many years traveling aboard NY City subways, RDC travel was a luxury! Commuted to 'n from work aboard RDCs in Boston - had a wonderful experience in 1999 up in BC between N. Vancouver 'n Lillooet - then the TRE experience down in Dallas. I'm most pleased with my experiences . . . Can't think of another self-powered rail vehicle that has had the longevity of those Budd creations!

HAve been breezing through and looking so don't despair I do look lol. I really liked that colour scheme of the Illinois Central passenger engines.
Back in the sixties when CN was actually trying to expand passenger service they went on a buying spree picking up used equipment for rental or purchase. I distinctly recall seeing some Illinois Central equipment, on the International Limited a few times. There was quite a hodge podge of stuff showing up in those days I just wish I had been able to take more colour pictures, but I never saw VIA coming till it got here.
Also used to think the RDC's were rather noisy, until my first ride on the Tempo Train. god they were awful, rode rough, and noisy, I bet the newer vans they bought in the sixties rode better.

A classic shot , one I picked up at a train show.Its a last gasp shot of a CP FA2 at Toronto's John Street Yard ( about where the Roger's Centre now Is )shot was dated on the back 1973.Most of CP's FA's and indeed most of the 244 engined Alcos were retired in the mid 70's.

Lets see another Brantford shot this morning.
Shot in 1991 an M630 leading a train through Brantford.
I recognized those houses on Usher street, you know there is a picture in Canadian Steam by David P. Morgan in the chapter on winter scenes, and it shows I think a northern stopped at what looks to me like the west end of the CN platform, where the switch leads to the freight and express building. Those houses appear to be in that picture though it was one of the few he failed to indicate a location on, and it was taken at night.
That German engine looks burly does it not?
As always great pictures of the museum Rob, I went to the site today on somputer that is, and was amazed at how nuch they have grown since I was last there, means I have to go I guess.
I see that Pete's popped in with a couple fine shots so that merrits another post from me.

That was a good book Now remember Tom the secret hand shake and the gremlins stay away I'm glad that you liked the Brantford shot. It's funny those houses on Usher street on the far side of the yard still look the same today.
