Not quite. Painting the frame and wheels of your steam locomotive red (the Germans did/do!), now, that is ugly!

Except the Sharknose locos, pretty much every diesel built by Baldwin has been aesthetically challenged. They ranged from homely (VO- series and S- series switchers), to ugly (Centipede/Babyface), to double-ugly (Janus), to fugly (DT-6-6-2000 center cab).

I have seen pictures of FM C-Liners in one of the Canadian passenger schemes, the one with the beaver on the side(?), that I thought looked pretty sharp.Thumbs Up [tup]

Now, FM Erie builts, and ALCO DL109's, those were not as attractive.  In my opinion, the early, boxy U-boats had a look only a mother could love.Dead [xx(]

Ugliness is in the eye of the beholder!

The TEE cars are now in the Netherlands and are slowly being restored. One cab end has been repainted in original TEE colors: red and cream.

I remember back in the 80s MR had one of those on the cover in I think Seaboard colors with an article on how to kitbash one.

It begs the question why you would want to kitbash one.

This poor set is still in North Bay Ontario as a waterfront display piece along with a CP caboose and a railroad consolidation.Even through the graphiti and a couple fires, they intend to at least cosmetically restore them. I took this picture when I was up in North Bay this past summer.

I'm pretty sure that this is one of the RS3's that Penn Central and later Conrail repowered with a EMD engine. The edges of the hood are too round for an RS1 and thecowl on top of long hood was to clear the taller GM powerplant.  Here's one that is pretty ugly too but appears to be a match!

I've read that crews hated these units and as a result most were sold off or scrapped by the early eighties!Big Smile [:D]

Those are E9B units that have had a cab hacked on to turn them into A units.

Not a fan of that ugly locomotive at all.  Most 'spartan' cab locos are equally as 'hesslich' (for you non-German speakers out there 'Ugly!') but I'm going to have to come down on the side of the Wide Nose.  Better for the crew comfort and safety-wise plus it looks more modern, at least to me.  Color of the paint on the loco doesn't matter, much.

LOL you know I'm just pimpin' ya Max!Laugh [(-D]
