Well...we could do garlic cheese bread too.  That would be fine with me.

Okay, we've got two requests for today's menu:

1.  roast, taters, carrots, w/PLENTY of gravy/juices) and garlic cheese bread
2.  Chilli (mild, medium and hot)

Everything will be on the warmer bar, in 30 minutes.  And I'm keeping hot coffee, hot chocolate and hot tea going all day, so everyone can warm themselves up with something hot to drink.

Somebody left the freezer door open!

20 degrees here in Omaha last night and now Hill City, Kansas is reporting heavy snow with a visibility of 1/4 of a mile.

Ever colder temperatures on the way with highs Friday and Saturday in the mid to upper 30s and lows Friday night and Saturday night in the lower to mid teens. The forecasted lows for those two nights would break the record low for each night by about 8 degrees. Now that's cold! Due to the recent warm weather, a lot of early plants and trees are already flowering and now they're getting damaged in the frost. What a spring!

Hey everybody!

I'll take some food from both menus. Some nice spicy  hot chili with carrots and cheese bread for me.  Cup of hot chocoolate sounds good too (even thought it just warmed up out here in Washington).

First I want to apologize for being away for so long. I have been swamped with homework, sports practices, track meets and a serious lack of sleep! I am definitly looking forward to spring break next week. Not having to stay up till midnight working on Calculus homework will be a nice change from the last week or so.

Now for the good news. I recieved my admissions decisions at the end of last week and I have been admitted to Princeton!  It was my top choice along with the United States Coast Guard Academy, but I have decided to go to Princeton.  I can't wait untill this fall.  The other great thing is that my parents said that they might let me take the train across the country this fall instead of taking a plane to get there. Well thats my good news for now. I will try to stop in and visit at the diner every day if I have time.

-emmar (one very happy geek)

Yes we call it the Dinky. Why? Well cause it's dinky! Proud to be the official train geek of Princeton University!

Congratulations emmar!  I'm sure you'll do great things in college and beyond.  Maybe this May we can have a joint Graduation/Admission party as I'm graduating from UW Oshkosh on May 12th.  My best advice is to be open to ideas but have a plan of some sorts and stick to it.  The hoops you'll jump through are merely that: hoops.  The end goal is worth it.

What a worthy topic to respond to for my 1000th post!

Two Thumbs Up [tup] to Emma and Dan!  Emma, congratulations on getting accepted to Princeton:  I know you'll do a great job with your studies there!   And Dan, congratulations on your upcoming graduation from UW Oshkosh!  Also, Dan, congrats on the 1000th post!

To celebrate tonight, I've taken a large sheet cake of chocolate cake out of the freezer, and it's ready for dessert tonight!  Got more roast, chilli, etc. on the warmer bar for supper/din din tonight.

Congratulations to both Emma and Dan!!!

Hmmm... I don't really care for Peeps the way it is. Soak them in chocolate and I would probably get sick.

I'm not a coffeeshop regular, but I dropped in and saw Emmar's post and want to give my congratulations.

My dad, a lifelong TRAINS subscriber and railfan was a Princeton grad.  He'd ride the dinky (the little passenger train that comes on to campus) down to Princeton Jct to watch trains when he had time.

It's not only a great school, but a great place to railfan.

Congrats.

My sister swears by Peeps toasted over a campfire.

We "enjoyed" some winter weather today - started out with black ice on the roads (and a few accidents) and ended up with enough of the white stuff to cover the ground well.  Of course, it was 'lake enhanced' so there's none at my house at all...

The "first call" ambulance crew did a transport to Syracuse early this morning so I had to go nap at the squad (instead of in my cozy waterbed).  Ended up responding to one of those cars off the road - fortunately there were no injuries...  Was late for work, but just in time for a conference call.  Not much snow by the time I got to work, but plenty a short while later, after the conference call.  Sheesh!

Tonight the stars are out in force - and the wind chill is 7 degrees.  At least it's above zero...

Fire meeting tonight - plenty of munchies and liquid refreshments after, so I'll just peek into the cooler to see what looks good....

Hear, hear.  And what a Good Friday it will be.  I'll take some (like 2-3 bowls) oatmeal.
