Good morning, everyone!  Sounds like everyone had a great weekend.  Dan, congratulations again!!

Coffee is on, hot chocolate, hot tea and hot cider are ready, also.  On the warmer bar, you will find:  turkey bacon, sausage, sausage gravy, homemade biscuits, oatmeal, toast, scrambled eggs, beagles for Mookie, and bear claws for Larry.

Everyone have a great day, and does anyone have any requests for lunch and supper, other than Easter Dinner leftovers?

Good morning folks. My family gathered at my sister's place yesterday for a pork roast dinner, which was pretty good. It got up to about 36 degrees here yesterday afternoon, not too bad. We have a threat of a possible couple inches of snow tomorrow afternoon/evening. I've always thought that we could get a lot of snow before the end of April. Right now we have a temperature of 19 degrees.

Yesterday morning when I had gotten home from church, I discovered that my computer's mailbox had been corrupted, and now I can't get into it. So it looks like I will use this as an excuse to change e-mail and internet service providers this week. I've been with earthlink for the last three years and I am not real happy with their software and billing practices.

A few hard boiled eggs for me. I see Bergie has been around this morning, taking out the trash.

Since it seems like just about all of us are on the cool side of the thermometer, I've taken the ham from yesterday, added navy beans, and veggies for soup.  Just took cornbread out of the oven, and both are on the warmer bar.  There are freshly made salads in the fridge and cooler, so help yourselves.  There is plenty of the bunny cake and Dan's cheesecakes left for dessert.

I've cleared everything off the warmer bar from lunch, and now have supper laid out on it:   lasagna w/garlic Texas toast or your choice of garlic bread, tossed salad, and there are plenty of desserts left in the cooler and fridge from the lunch menu.

Joe, there's a plate all ready for you to take to work tonight; it's in the fridge, with your name printed in extra large print.  And there's also a plate with Lance's name on it, if he comes in before he goes to work tonight.  Does anyone else need a plate for work tonight?  If so, there's plenty of to-go containers in storage area, under the counter, so help yourself.

Everyone have a good evening, and take care.

Good evening.

I had an assignment over Easter vacation to ask one of our local meteorologists some interview questions. I decided that CT Thonklin, a good friend of mine and meteorologist at KM3 News in Omaha would be a good person to interview. Here is a photo of me and CT at the news desk:

The interview was a success and now my only assignment over vacation is finished.

It looks like fairly nice weather is coming for this week, but then there could be snow Friday night. If everything works out, there could even be a couple of inches of snow. It will be interesting to see how things pan out.

Slip on a suit and tie, and you would look right at home!

So, where do we read your interview?

It was cool here today - sunny, though.  Even with that, the random flakes kept coming down.  No accumulation, just a few flakes to remind us that winter isn't quite done yet....

Had to hit the cooler for something to substitute for the lasagne (doesn't agree with me).  The toast is always good, though.

Back to work tomorrow.  If I didn't have a bunch of hot projects, I think it would be a good time to take a week off....

Almost time to call it a night.......

I should have pointed out in my original post that I wasn't actually on TV. That photo was taken after the newscast. I asked CT the interview questions before the newscast and then I got to stay in the studio and watch the news before having some photos taken.

Tree - Thanks for the correction. I have always had a tough time figuring out that grammar stuff.

Here are several of the questions I asked, with CT's answers in italics:

1. How much schooling do you need to be a meteorologist?

You need to finish high school and you need to have a Bachelor's degree in meteorology. This requires 4 years of college and that is the bare minimum.

2. In your opinion, what are some of the best meteorology schools that are out there?

That's a hard one. All of them are good and each one specializes in something different. The University of North Dakota does research with radar meteorology. Oklahoma State specializes in mesoscale or severe weather meteorology. If you only want to do TV weather, Mississippi State University offers just a media broadcast program. Iowa State, University of Kansas, and University of Missouri are also good choices.

3. What tools (like computer models) do you use to make a forecast?

Radar, satellite, and surface weather observations are used. Computer models like the GFS (Global Forecast System Model), or NAM (The North American Mesoscale Model) are used frequently. There is no ideal model and there is really no right model. However, The GFS has been the closest recently.

4. Why is it that computer models don't start to really get a good handle on a storm system until it has moved onshore?

A lot of computer models use information from weather balloons and airport observation sites. These data - like temperature, dewpoint, and wind direction - have a fairly dense grid of data along the coast while out at sea there are just a few buoys that can spit out the same information. This means that the models don't really get a lot of data on a system until it has moved ashore.

5. What is your view on global warming?

Before I go on, I am not a climatologist and have not conducted research
on this very hot subject (no pun intended), but I can present to you my
personal opinion on what I've observed and learned in school.  My
opinion is consistent with your views of this topic.

We've only been keeping detailed weather records for a bit over a
century now, although we do have prehistoric evidence of how the weather
behaved long before we erected weather instruments.  I think there are
some people over-reacting about the existence of global warming, but
we'd be fools to deny that it is not happening.

Yes, there have been indications of higher concentrations of carbon
dioxide gas, a constituent gas of the greenhouse effect, that our
society is creating into the atmosphere.  I think the most reasonable
action we can take is to be good stewards of our resources.  I mean, to
research and use alternative energy sources, instead of heavily relying
on fossil fuels.

I acknowledge that we have an incomplete jigsaw puzzle of our atmosphere
and the only way to get more pieces is to simply do more research.  More
research needs to be done to investigate the amounts and kinds of gases
in our atmosphere, atmospheric temperature variations and specific
reasons behind them, remote sensing with satellites to monitor ice at
both poles.

I don't want to buy into either extreme end of the global warming
argument, since I don't have all the facts I need, but I think (again)
the most prudent course of action is to treat our resources as carefully
as possible, until we know for sure that this is a major problem.
Essentially, I'm assuming that global warming exists and is a problem,
but not to the extent that we need to overreact.

This is the most reasonable and well-thought out response to global warming I've ever heard, so I commend CT for actually using his brain while discussing the topic.

There were five other questions that I asked, but I thought these were a pretty good sampling of what I asked.

Good Tuesday morning, all!  Willy, looks like you had a TERRIFIC interview!  Congratulations.  I know everyone on here, including myself, are very proud of you!  Someday, when I'm very old and gray, I'll be able to say I was acquainted with that young man, from the Trains.com forums!!

We have a temp of 35 degrees this morning.  But the downside is, the clouds will build up this afternoon, and rain will be in sometime tonight, probably around midnight.  Supposed to have rain all day tomorrow, possibly very heavy at times, with a slight possibility of thunder.

Coffee is ready, fresh juice is made, and we've got hot tea, hot chocolate and hot cider readily available.

On the warmer bar, you will find the usual assortment of turkey bacon, sausage, etc., with some fresh fruit in the cooler.

Everyone have a good morning, and I'll see you all after I get through with Produce Tuesday.

I am greatful for the rain, we need it around here. Guess that goes with the territory of living in the high desert for a number of years. It's more green here, but still we could use a lot more than what we have been getting. The cold can go away though, even though, my defenition of cold is far away from what the locals call "cold" Anything below 70 degrees here is "Cold", but a lot of us know the real truth to the word now don't we?

A bowl of grits, and a glass og OJ sounds good now...maybe I actually will have that for brakfast

Supposed to really be up an hour and a half from now, but can't sleep, so...blah...here I am

Willy: We are looking at an Albuquerque LOW setting up at the end of this week. Friday could be really sloppy.

Grabbing a 55 gallon drum of Diet Dew and off to the wars. Light rain today and Sand Creek tomorrow if it dries up.

We have 33 degrees here in Sioux Falls, and we are getting moderately heavy snow. And it could turn into rain later this afternoon. Right now we have something less than an inch of snow on the ground.

I was looking at the web site of the Sioux Falls Humane Society last night, am considering eventually adopting a doggie, all of my Colorado cousins have been telling me that I should have a dog, one that has already been housebroken.

I ordered a new book from the History Book Club last week, "Stealing the General", by Russel S. Bonds and it arrived in my mail yesterday afternoon. It should make for some pretty good reading. I might pass it on to Locomutt after I have finished reading it.

Well, looks like I need to bring in another 55 gallon thing of Diet Dew:  I see our favorite mudchicken has been in this morning!  Mudchicken, always glad to keep them in stock for you.  How are you and Boss Hen doing lately?  I don't hear much from your way.

Lunch is ready.  You've got your choices of open-faced roast beef sandwiches, swimming in gravy/juices, w/mashed taters; leftover lasagna from supper last night; ham & potato salad from Sunday; and vegetable beef soup w/cornbread.

Ray, I'm sure Mutt would enjoy borrowing the book, after you are through reading it.

Afternoon everyone.....

Strange weather we will be having here in the next two days, supposed to get six inches of snow tonight, central Wisconsin could get up to a foot of snow.  Too late in the season to be getting this much snow....

I see Cleveland will be using Miller Park over in Milwaukee to make up a few of the four games that got snowed out last week, life imitates art once again (for those who don't remember, Milwaukee stood in for Cleveland in the movie 'Major League').Hope the record doesen't imitate the movie, though.

Will grab some lunch, then quick nap before work. See everyone later......

Last day of Easter vacation and it's rainy outside. It always works like this. School days are beautiful and then the days off are cloudy and dreary.

The latest data suggests that significant snowfall is a good possibility for Friday evening through Saturday morning. I'm not quite sold on that yet, but the chances seem to look fairly high.

Hope everyone has a good afternoon/evening!

Gee, it's been kind of slow in here today.  Seems like it's warming up here, and guess it's warmed up elsewhere as well!

Joe, you're very welcome for the plate for work tonight.  And there's one fixed up for you in the fridge.

On the menu tonight:  spaghetti w/meatballs and plenty of sauce, garlic Texas toast, tossed salads, and for dessert:  your choice of homemade banana pudding, chocolate cake and apple pie.

Not a bad today here in the north of NY.  Still wants to snow, but there's not enough to stick.
