Larry, Mookie, It's funny you should mention 911 calls. Just 2 days ago we had a AT&T guy come here to the office to repair the phone system and while he was here the cops rolled on us 3 units thick. They said they recieved a 911 call from here. Well nobody called 911 so it must have been caused by whatever the phone guy was doing.

Afterwords the phone guy and I got to talking. He said it's a common occourance with some devices to be programmed to call 911 if the batteries get low. I never heard of that before.

Okey dokey, looks like no one has any meal requests today.  So, after much soul searching, here is what I've come up with for today's menu:

Lunch will be:

1.  open-face roast beef sandwiches w/Mookie's "smashed" taters and beef gravy
2.  tuna salad sandwiches w/your choice of fries or chips
3.  very large garden salad w/melon chunks

I hope the menu meets with everyone's approval.

After being up until about 2 a.m., I'm still trying (unsuccessfully, I might add) to get my eyes totally open.  Feel like I could go back to Sleepy [|)]

Hi Tina and Cannonball - good to see you back!  We are getting a few of the "used to be in here" s back again.

Tree - our 911 hangups are always investigated by the police.  I had one when I first started here - you dial 9 to get out and at that time 112 to get long distance was just going to 1 only.  Oops...sure enough - I had a nice young man standing beside my desk.  I was so Blush [:I]

Went to the dentist yesterday - they sharpened the teef...took the feathers out and said I was so good - would you like a lollipop....Big Smile [:D]  Maybe they were sugar free!

Stayed in my own hammock this morning - The Driver has the day off, so I sleep in a little later.  Now I will have to go like mad to catch up!

Willy - will get you an e-mail later - hopefully today or tomorrow.  Never fear - we can always hide in here! You didn't do anything wrong, but someone will always take potshots at you.  It is simply their point of view, or showing off a point on their head.

Off to finish my coffee - thanx CW and Joe - hmmm Joe=coffee=Joe.....(that's bad even for me!)

Mo...

Good morning, everyone.  We decided to sleep in this morning.  Joe, thanks for getting everything ready this morning!  Really appreciate it!!

Dan, looks like you did a really good job, cleaning up from the hot dogs and smores.

Everyone have a good day, and if there are any food requests for today, PLEASE let me know.

We're doing well. We just adopted a shelter dog. Real sweet dog and well mannered, except for the occasional counter surfing and slipper chewing. She also tries to follow each freight car with her head. Left to right. left to right. left to right. Some of the trains around here can go by pretty fast. I hope she doesn't sprain her neck in the process.

I told our daughter that the dog ate her bagel. But the dog blabbed it was really me. Bagels...good.

Willy, you're fine. I, too, just reread the posts you are unsure about. It's cool. You said nothing inflammatory.

If I can find it, there is an essay on the different types of people you always find on a forum. It is very funny and when you come across the one that describes you best, it can be a bit uncomfortable. It's like a Myers-Briggs test for forum users. The point of this is; don't take too personally what anyone says on the forums unless it is a direct attack or someone spewing hatred and dangerous ideas. For the most part posting on any forum is just cyperspace bragging that my computer is bigger than yours. Some people that post have serious issues. Some post because they seek knowledge. A lot of us post because we seek friendships and understanding; a common ground.

Remember this always, that on this diner, in this crazy world of train watching, there are many of us who want nothing but happiness for you and all the young people who grace us with their enthusiasm, energy and quest for knowledge.

Tree - I have an issue I would like to "fix" with our FD - in the very nicest way, of course....

They go out on every "man down, nature unknown" - w/o sending an officer out first to investigate it.  99% of the time, it is "man down, sleeping it off"....And that requires an engine and and a rescue vehicle - police come usually later to help the man off to a bed somewhere.

This has to be very expensive to send out this much equipment each and every time - and we do seem to have a few....I think I would investigate that.  But then, I would hire more police officers than we have - I think we have way too few for what we need.  But that's another story.

Where is the bearclaw....?

Ended up taking a very long drive in the country - to see if I could find a couple of fiber optic lines...  I found them, and got out of the office for about 4 hours in the process.  Hardly a bad thing.

Tomorrow's bearclaw will be served with a side of fresh cream...

There are places where fire rolls on "9-1-1 hang up" and "9-1-1 abandoned" calls - usually nuisance calls.  Our cops take 'em here.

Unfortunately, you have to respond to what the caller tells you.  We get no end of calls for "fires" that were set intentionally - by the person burning the brush pile, or whatever.  The caller is breezing by in their car, sees smoke and flames, and just knows it's a fire that has to be put out...  I don't want them to not call if it's a real problem, but more often than not, they just never take the time to see what's really burning, and if, indeed, it actually needs to be extinguished.

I could always get my hammer out if you need some backup!  Evil [}:)]

I think I'll bring some firewood out by the firepit tonight so we can have a weenie roast and SMORES if anyone is interested.  I'll light the Tiki Torches and get the fire going in about 45 minutes or so.  I've got dogs, buns, ketchup and mustard.  If you want other toppings I'm sure there's some in the fridge in the Diner.  There's also some chips and potato salad for sides.  Mmmm...I can smell the woodsmoke now.  Just don't douse the fire too early Larry!

Ok, but I just hate to have folks mad at me when I wasn't trying to get anything going. I guess I wasn't as worried about the current state of the thread as I was about the possibility that it will turn into something worse.

For supper tonight, I've fired up the charcoal grill, and have the following on the warmer bar:  steaks, pork chops, hot dogs, hamburgers, brats, corn on the cob and "baked" potatoes, and baked beans.

In the cooler:  garden salad, Jell-O salad, cole slaw, potato salad, and all the desserts listed on today's lunch menu.

Everyone have a great evening!!  Let's all head out to the patio and deck and watch the trains go by!!
