Well, I've talked to Carl a couple of times over the past several weeks via e-mail, so that clears up where he is. That just leaves Kevin.

The gates of the arctic are just about ready to open. A low tonight of 0 with wind chills as low as 25 below zero. Highs tomorrow through Monday generally in the single digits above zero (although Sunday could manage the teens) and lows in the single digits below zero (although some double digits below zero can't be ruled out) with wind chills as low as 30 below zero at times. This is what winter is all about. Finally, a taste of some real winter weather, rather than this wimpy stuff we've had so far. Yes!

Dan, welcome back!  Glad you're doing all right.  Sounds like you HAVE been pretty busy.   Chris, thanks for letting us know about Chad.  Now, all we need is to hear from Carl and Kevin, and I think we'll be caught up on all the gang.  Right?!?!

Is that what's been going on with my winter? I accidentally roamed into the freezer and I've been stuck in there for the past two months? I would guess that there are a lot of other Coloradoans who have shared my plight! (This must be a big freezer!)

CW,

I talked to Chad not too long ago. He's been busy at work, and hasn't had a lot of free time. Besides, I'm thinking that his free time might be being spent with a new toy. Wink [;)] Hopefully we'll hear a little bit about that pretty soon.

Did someone say something about people being missing?  I've been doing some training involving loads of exercise.  Can you say 610 lb squat, 1300 lb leg press, and 410 lb bench press?  Plus I've been running 5 miles a day at ~7 min/mile and swimming 2 miles per day.  Takes less than an hour.  Sorry I've been away.  As a token of apology here's some chocolate brownies for everyone!  (Note: the BIG one is for Mook!)

Okay everyone, lunch is on the warmer bar:  Mookie's request of beef sandwiches and turkey sandwiches with mashed taters and the beef and turkey gravies.  There is also fresh garden salad, if anyone would like some.

The snow has moved on eastward, so until the next round comes in later this afternoon, we have overcast skies, and a current temp of 30 degrees.

I know I've already asked about our two Dans, and no one's heard from them.  But has anyone heard from Chad?!?!  Been awhile since we've heard from him.  And where are Kevin & Carl?!   What is happening with all these MIAs around here?!?!?!

Yumm, Cinnamon rolls and coffee!  Gosh, I almost feel sorry for you folks in the east and the midewest with the nasty cold weather.  Willies weather machine must have finally gotten adjusted right as it's nice out west.  Mid 20's for a low and temps are topping out right around 60 degrees in the daytime.  This kind of weather can stay around as long as it likes.

Well, the extreme cold is mostly gone (all the way up to 20 right now), but we got snow in it's place.  The ol' lake effect machine was cranking last night.  I was at a class within the snowbelt - they let us go early as we'd gotten about 3" there in an hour or so.  Slow going until I got a few miles from home - then it was clear roads!  Such is lake effect!

Bearclaw (a little butter and warmed on the grill, please) and some orange-n-spice tea and I'm set.

Good Thursday morning to all!  Ray, thank you for bringing in the cinnamon rolls.  I'm getting one to have with my coffee.  Also, thanks for putting the coffee on and making the juice.

Our temp outside is around 26 degrees, and we have about a half to one inch of snow.  Our local school system is on a two hour delay this morning.  Temps are supposed to get up to the mid 30s, so guess it'll all be gone by tonight.

Mookie, looks like you've picked the lunch menu today:  we'll have some hot beef sandwiches, along with hot turkey sandwiches w/mashed taters & gravy.  There'll be both beef gravy and turkey gravy, to go over the potatoes, so you'll all have your choice of which gravy you want to have.

I'll have it all  ready, around 11:15 EST.  Everyone have a great morning.

Beef/turkey sandwiches with smashed taters for lunch?  Sounds good to me.

Someone needs to remind me to send Willy his bonus for the excellent job he is doing with that weather machine of his.  Captain [4:-)]

Chris - I love the mudchicken shot!  They say we have some grouse around here, but I refuse to go out and part the weeds to look for them!  At least with the real mudchicken, I don't have to part the weeds - usually just open the door to a favorite restaurant and find him.

Think I will have coffee and a warm cinn roll.  Yum....

Did anyone notice - when Willy opened his weather station, the bottom fell out of the temps?  I must ponder that for awhile.

Maybe CW will make some hot beef or hot turkey sandwichs today.  Tongue [:P]  I will personally put a paw print well in all the smashed taters before she puts on gravy. (it's ok - I will clean after each print....!)

Must rest up for all that work.

Good morning everyone!

Well, it looks like I'm the first one to arrive in the Diner here, better turn on some lights.

I'm leaving two pans of fresh cinnamon rolls on the counter here, fresh out of the oven, you folks better grab one while they are still warm.Chef [C=:-)]Dinner [dinner] I've got the coffee brewing and I've mixed up a fresh batch of orange juice.........and I've got the hot chocolate ready too.

It was 4 degrees below 0 when I left my house this morning. It's supposed to get up to about 19 degrees later this afternoon in Sioux Falls, but the weather for this weekend starting tomorrow is supposed to get brutal!

Hey Chris, those last two deserve a "WOW", regardless of where they were taken.  The topic of eagles actually has me wondering if you folks have ESP- I've been hoping to get down by the UP's Cedar River Bridge this weekend and try my luck at getting both a train and an eagle or two in the same picture (when the weather gets this cold, the eagles congregate around the roller dam just downstream from that bridge).

Okay, I've had a nap, and I'm back now, and have supper on the warmer bar:  meat loaf, mac & cheese, mashed taters w/gravy, etc.

Our indoor/outdoor thermometer is showing a current temp out of 30, and the current weather report on the news is showing 28 degrees.  So take your pick, as to the current temps here.  They are saying that we may have snow flurries around midnight, with the snow actually beginning around 4 a.m., with maybe an inch or two accumulation before it "warms" up tomorrow.

Thanks everyone for the kind words on the Eagle Shots. Willy, they're all mine (but sh....don't tell anyone, two were taken at the Phillips Park Zoo in Aurora, IL).

And Mook, I have yet to get a shot of the illusive Coloradoan Mudchicken. However, I've got a close relative. This is a ptarmigan, a member of the grouse family (I think) that lives up in the high country:

I suppose if I photochopped a couple terriers in there, it would actually be pretty close to what a real mudchicken looks like! Laugh [(-D]

Kitty has seen the swallows at Capistrano, the starlings in the trees on main street and the pigeon officials in the yard.  Why not!

We do have a few turkey buzzards that fly around the park about 2 blocks from our house.  Do they count?  If I had some ambition, I would crank up Millie - during nicer weather and drive down to the Mo River and see if the eagles are down there.  It is warm water that comes out of the power plant and I hear the like to hang around there.  But - it is easier to have Chris do all the work and I just sit in my comfy chair and check it all out.

Which brings to mind - Chris - do you have a picture of a mudchicken in a tree?  (I am going to get a nasty e-mail on that one!)

Baby it's cold outside!!!

A whopping 9 degrees outside right now, supposed to get to 17, I doubt that will happen, though.  This weekend is supposed to have highs in the single digits, lows will have the negative sign included.  Willy and Datafever, could I see you both out behind the woodshed, Please?  Need to discuss something with you.......

Thanks for the meatloaf, CW, it was great.  See everyone later......
