I just wanted to say that anyone who is complaining about the snow should just be thankful that they don't live in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Take a look at the past 12 hours of observations.

And, anyone who is complaining about the cold should just be thankful that they don't live in International Falls, Minnesota.

Take a look at the current temperature and wind chill, as well as today's high and last night's low.
It could be worse folks. Oh, I don't have anything for people who are complaining about ground blizzards, so I guess Chris does have a valid complaint. I know that I would not want to get into one of those on the road.

Got back from a day at my office in the Rockford area about 7pm. Temperature was floating right around -9 for the whole trip back (only about 45 minutes). So tired I'll just have a piece of the desert pie and then sign off for now. Fritz and I are going to do laps. I stretch out of the couch in front of the TV and Fritz lays on my lap. Cover up with a light blanket and watch TV or doze off.
See you later.

Well - Hit a little weather myself today on the way to Utica for the RR membership/board meeting. I was out of the heavy snow early enough, but the wind was blowing directly across the road, resulting in whiteouts (usually brief fortunately) and messy roads. Eventually I got out of that, too.
Good meeting, decent lunch (If you're in Utica, NY, go to Union Station and eat at the "Blue Flag" restaurant) and I took care of some business I had to deal with.
Even caught a train (Amtrak headed west for Niagara Falls, a half hour late). The eastbound due up next was running 3 hours late, per the board.

yes it is cold outside. just got back home from my mom and dads.visibility in spots between van wert and celina on 127 is 0.a few cars were in the ditches. We followed a big rig from 33 north to us 30.soo whats on the pizza menu for tonight??.will take a large mushroom with extra chesse for starters.
.....Lots of variations in weather on here today but most pretty cold. We had 9+ something this morning about 7 am and currently it's 16.7 on my Sharper Image unit....also an atomic clock....{Aren't they great...!}. It and radio controlled wrist watch keep right together second to second.
Came back home in the last hour and it was blowing and snowing so heavy like a blizzard and now the sun is shining {very}, brightly with mostly blue sky. But oh that wind with the low temps is brutal.
Next two or so days indicate it's to give us a bit below "0" each morning. I'll be glad to get through this phase of the stuff.....
Willy can have all of this really cold blast.
Quentin
Well, it sure isn't warming up much here today- my SkyScan Atomic Clock says it's Zero degrees, and my weather station (on a tripod on the roof) says it's -1.3 degrees.
Now if I could just get over this sore throat and clogged sinuses...

Good morning!
The low here was 4 below zero. Looks like the weather machine is working just the way it should be. Datafever, as much as I'm enjoying this cold blast, when it's done I wouldn't mind some upper 60s. Even I have a limit to how much cold air I can put up with.
This is finally going to be a relaxing weekend. For the first time in several weeks there isn't a lot of homework, so I can finally just do nothing, which is what weekends are really meant for.
Hope everyone has a great weekend, and stay warm and safe!
Another beautiful day here in sunny San Jose. Looks like the high will be in the mid to upper 60s.
And for those of you that are not wandering around outside in your short-sleeved shirts:
That car looks like I feel- like it's not going anywhere for quite awhile. Our current temp is -4.2 degrees with a wind chill of -15. We had a low earlier this morning of -5.4. At least it promises to be a nice sunny day- the sun is shining on my monitor right now.
I think the longest trip I will be making today will be to the mailbox by the street.
And a good, COLD Saturday morning to everyone out there!
I will be leaving the warmth of my house within the next two or three hours to work my part time job at Howes Oil Company, and I thank God that where I work is barely two blocks from my front door. This is one of the coldest mornings we have seen in this part of the country in a long time. Currently we have 10 degrees below 0, the wind is blowing out of the west/northwest at 13 mph, leaving us with a wind chill factor of 31 degrees below 0.
I will be taking a thermos of coffee to work with me, and I am hoping that when I get to work this morning, I will not find any frozen plumbing to have to deal with, like I have in the past.
I wish Bergie or someone would create a new smiley face that we can use in our posts, maybe one with a blue face and ice cycles hanging from his ears and his chin.
I hope everyone out there has a good day!

Good Saturday morning to all! Well, so far, we're down to 18 this morning, will be down to about 0 in the morning. For the weekend, our highs will only be in the 20s, with windchills around 0.
Coffee is ready, along with juice, hot chocolate, and hot water for cocoa and tea.
I've fixed a BIG breakfast for everyone this morning: turkey bacon, sausage, sausage gravy w/ homemade buttermilk biscuits (only the best for our friends and patrons here), oatmeal, grits, fried taters, hash browns, tater tots, scrambled eggs, western omelettes, French toast, regular buttered toast fixed in the broiler.
Everyone have a terrific Saturday, stay warm, dry and safe, whatever and wherever you go today.
Sorry, emmar, but it looks like your avatar is not working yet.
But the good news is that you don't have to post a new message to see your avatar. You can just bring up any post you have already made, and changes to your avatar or profile will displayed automatically.
Or you can use the test forum to try things out too.
Or if you need help, just ask. Plenty of friendly, helpful people around.
I hope you guys don't mind me posting this. I wanted to see if my avatar I just set up is working. I have never had one before on any website and I wanted to make sure it is working. I am not real computer literate so please forgive me. I will figure this all out sometime.

Yikes! I better tell everyone out here in Washington to stop complaining about the weather. I just got done with my weather report final in Earth Science class at school and everyone was whining about the 27 degree low I predicted for tonight. After reading everyones posts A little bit of cold is nothing. Heck I think some of you wouldn't even consider this cold.
Well everyone keep warm, dry and safe in the winter storms.
CW, the fish was delicious.
Have a good night, everyone.
Before I leave, I have just enough time to listen to "King of the Road" on the juke.
TO OUR TWO BRIANS: HOPE YOU BOTH FEEL MUCH, MUCH BETTER TOMORROW!!
And to Iowa Brian, glad to hear that son & daughter-in-law are safe and sound. Your son sounds a lot like Mutt: several years ago, we were under a tornado watch, then warning, and he slept through the entire thing. Fotunately, nothing came around our neighborhood, except a lot of rain and thunder & lightning.
Joe, thanks for popping the popcorn!!
And Brian, here's a LARGE bowl of popcorn for you!! And you picked a very good selection on the jukebox!!!
Thanks for the concern, guys. I came home tonight and immediately took two acetaminophen and a nap- now I feel somewhat better. Also called the kids, they're doing just fine- daughter-in-law woke up from a bad dream to the noise of the storm already in progress. Of course, my son slept right through it.
I'll take a big bowl of that popcorn, please.
//plugs a quarter into the jukebox and selects "City Of New Orleans"
Hope you hear from your family soon. out here now, the sun was shining, and it was warm. They say that the cold is gonna come back later in the week.
I'll just take a large Pepsi. Not really hungry tonight
wow
larry thank goodness no one was hurt!!! they are calling for snow to go along with the cold too tommorow.i havent heard anything yet from my family in florida.Brian hope you get better soon.I will make some popcorn for snacking later.good night to stay inside.
joe
Wow - Pulled into town (it's a small town) to the sight of red lights all over the place, and a school bus sitting there with it's "4 ways" on. Stopped at our Social Hall (funeral service tomorrow - spiffing up and preparing food for wake) and found out that a kid took a shot at the bus with a .22. There were kids on the bus, but no one was hurt. Sheesh!
Fish sounds good tonight. Snowing like the dickens, which will make a long ride out of my trip south for a meeting of the board of the railroad tomorrow. Gonna be a long weekend.
CW,
Would love to have some fish, but we are doing some home made chicken noodle soup. The way I have felt today, I am hoping it'll make me feel better. The cold is catching up with me. I am in and out of hot and cold all day, and it takes a toll on you.
Everyone have a great weekend. For everyone in the deep freeze, be very careful out there. They calling for some minus 20 windchills here in the Northern KY area. I can only imagine what it's going to be like up in the plains.
