Dan
Blue moon..... oops, guess I should have checked to see if someone had their ears on before yowling....
Dan: Omelette - you will need to boil mine about 20 min so it is like that rubber tire you kicked. I can't do any kind of an even slightly soft egg....
Used to make fried eggs - fry them on low until they were linoleum and then dig out the yolks and feed them to Budz (dog) and eat the whites. Haven't had a good egg since ol' Budz left this world - about 17 years ago!
Off to the garden (Blue Moon.....)

Good Thursday morning, everyone. It's good and muggy here in Louisville this morning. We only have a 20% chance of thunder showers this afternoon, early evening. Everyone wishes it were higher, because the lawns, trees, flowers, and crops need it very much. Heard yesterday that we are having temps the past two weeks, that we don't normally get until at least July 15th.
Dan, thanks for fixing breakfast and getting the coffee, and other beverages going this morning. I went out and took a walk this morning, before it gets too hot and muggy out: that's why I'm just getting in here.
Everyone have a good morning, and I'll be back in a little bit. Think I'll go see if Mookie is still in the garden. I'll take two cups of coffee with me, just in case she is still there.
....That dryness extends up to Muncie here too....So dry....! Although, just this past Monday we were in town for Olive Garden lunch and one of the gals had to go with me {and an umbrella, out to our vehicle}, it was raining so hard. I then pulled up to the entrance to pick up Jean and about 6 miles from there on the city's west side, at our home....Not a drop of rain and none since....
Temps in the 90's these last 2 days here and probably today will be similar....So Paula, if you see any rain shoo it this way too......
Willie....what are you doing out there....{Oh, he's in NY...I believe}.

Not quite yet. We leave very early tomorrow morning. It looks like we may be taking off into some thunderstorms so that will undoubtedly be an exciting experience. Never a dull moment in Omaha.
Hmm... While many people are praying for rain, here in Omaha we're only about three-quarters of an inch away from our wettest May ever. We've had 10.40 inches so far and the record is a little over 11 inches. It looks like we have at least another inch coming for the next couple of days, but will it come before midnight tonight to break that record? Either way, I'll try to send some of it to the people who need it.

Gotta go play "chicken" with the blue hairs, soccermoms and mall rats in the parking lots again....
Woke up to the sounds of the black top on our street being removed. The contractor uses one of those machines that grinds up the black top and dumps it into the haul trucks. One hopes that the resurface will be finished sometime before labor day, otherwise we can expect a lot of dust and mud. I hope they do a very good job on the resurface. At the rate this town fixes streets, ours will have to last about 50 years.
Lot's of railroad type stuff coming up. The UP Operation Lifesaver train will be in Janesville Monday with E-Units at the point. Mark Hemphill shows up at the Northwestern University Transportation Center on Wednesday to talk about trains in Iraq and Rochelle Railroad Days follow on Saturday and Sunday.

You have my sympathies. Here's a hammer if you need one!
Jay - I am scared to death they will redo our street. They will block us off for about 2-3 months if they do! We will have to park on the street behind us, wander through backyards, climb over fences and wander through another yard.
Picture that!
Probably won't be the last time the Driver has stood behind me and boosted......
MC - careful with the blue hairs! They are out looking for polite young chickens to regale with stories!
Happy trip Willy!
Back to the garden and my coffee with CW!
Moo....
Mall rats...
Impossible to raise as pets, (you can't house break them) and taste horrible when you barbeque them....
Don't go good with Gatorade either...

Moo as to climbing trees I thought cats had claws? Think of the going around the block thing as an adventure! A chance to peruse new gardens!
Anyone ever see a tie grinder in operation?
Well, I just finished making more lemonade, and it's in the five gallon drum. Hope it's enough for this afternoon.
Mookie, enjoyed our chat in the garden. Always enjoy talking with you.
For lunch today, we have: tuna salad sandwiches, open-face roast beef sandwiches w/mashed taters and gravy, fries or chips to go with the tuna sandwiches, and BLTs are ready. We've also got some sliced red and yellow tomatoes and lettuce for sandwiches.
Now, after my nice time in the garden, think I'm going to take a short nap. So you all enjoy your lunch and afternoon.
Maybe we can get Mark to come in the Diner, and regale us with his experiences in Iraq. It has been a long while since he's been in here. And maybe he'll bring Tina in with him.

Not up close, but WSOR had one working at Bardwell (jct of Janesville-Fox Lake line with Elkhorn Branch). Converted a massive pile of ties from what I assume was the WSOR's replacement program. The chip pile was hauled off by truck somewhere. Landfill? Given the gunk in the ties, I doubt if the chips are safe to reuse.
I wonder if the machines can handle the rare leftover spike?
I've seen folks use round bale 'grinders' to chip up waste wood. Given the appropriate teeth, I would imagine they'd handle spikes, as well as those metal thingies that they use to hold together marginal ties.
Our local landfill won't take the ash from the co-gen plant here on post. Something about the fact that they include ground-up tires in the mix with the coal.

The reason I asked is that the CN supposedly has one operating in town (heard it from a friend) and I'm gonna go get pics this aft, hopefully will be able to post them later. I just wasn't sure what I might see or hear/etc.
EDIT: THEY JUST CAUGHT THE KIDS WHO ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR SHOOTING OUT ALL THE WINDOWS IN THE AREA! THEY WERE CAUGHT IN THE ACT LAST NIGHT AND SUPPOSEDLY ONE OF THE GROUP CONFESSED! That means I have a good shot at getting restitution for the windows on my truck that got shot out!

If you get some picks start a new thread. We may get more insight from members who don't frequent the diner.

Mookie/anyone else:
That's the 'defect card' thing I was telling you about.
Supper is now on the warmer bar. On tonight's menu: grilled skinless boneless chicken breasts, mashed taters, peas, spinach, and corn. And for anyone who doesn't like green peas or spinach, there's broccoli also on the menu tonight.
Joe, hope the fundraiser tonight is a success!
Lance, there's a container in the fridge, ready for you to take to work tonight.
Message From:The Cook
Hello everyone It has certainly been quite a long time since I've been back to post here on the Trains forums. I had to come back and make an apperence, I MISS THE FOOD!!! I MISS THE COOK....Oh heck I miss everybody.
Anyone here going through a drought (sp)? It is HOTT HOTT HOTT down here in Louisville. We haven't had a good rain storm in quite a while, water levels are starting to get low.
Guess what....guess what... I have FINALLY accomplished my life long dream. I work for the railroad now!! Guess which one? Oh I'm sure my screen name gave it away. Yup CSX.
YES now I get to run 1 to 1 scale trains instead of 1/87th ones!! hehehehe

That's where they put it if there is one.... Notice the little tube next to it.
Sarah! Welcome back! Doubt you'll wander up into my neck of the woods (still CSX territory), but if you do, some advance notice!
I'm about ready to start doing the "official" stuff myself - got the rules and stuff out of the way and will be on the schedule as a "trainman trainee" in July. The training part shouldn't take long - I've been paying attention to operations while working as a car host.
....Congratulations, Sarah....Walt did tell us of your accomplishments to RR employment. Good luck on the adventure.
And yes, still no rain right here at our home site near Muncie...Hot too.
CW, thanks for the plate. I can already taste it.
Sarah, A huge congrats on your accomplishments. When do we get to see some pics of you in action?
Hey, Sarah, welcome back!
Concerning supper, great minds think alike. I just finished cooking our supper here, consisting of charcoal-grilled chicken thighs and steaks, both marinated in Italian dressing.
