I think we could see this trestle out of action for several months as UP decides to replace the whole thing with a concrete trestle. That's how long it will take due to prep work the ground to install the new bridge. We're really fortunate that the fire happened now since we don't have to deal with rain when the new bridge is installed.

A donut or three sounds good this morning, along with a good dose of caffiene.  Busy night last night.  I was at a dinner meeting so missed the initial stuff, but my department led things off with a fully involved house fire.  The frame is still standing, but there's nothing left inside.   Seven people left homeless, and losing just about everything.  Since temperatures dropped yesterday, we had lots of ice-covered hose, too.

After we all got home, another department in the county got called to stand by in the next county over as they had a structure fire, however they never made it there as said department (along with their automatic mutual aid) was dispatched to a garage fire.  As that one was winding down a bit, yet another department (and lots of help) was called to an old factory that was reported as fully involved.  I don't think it was an overly large building, however they were still there this morning, some 7 hours later.

Snow in the forecast for the next few days but Sunday is Chicken Barbeque time!

Shrine Circus is in town again.  Reminds me of a few years ago - Driver was in the car out front waiting for me to get off work.  Suddenly saw a zebra go by.  Then some guy running after it.  Then some students running after both of them.

Our campus is about 4 blocks from the auditorium where the show was being presented that nite.  The zebra was able to make the show that nite!  Big Smile [:D]

I shall be megitating in the garden - smelling the flowers....

EEK! Shock [:O]

There is a MASSIVE railroad trestle fire in Sacramento, CA near the American River as I type this with a huge plume of black smoke from the burning timbers soaked in creasote. It appears the trestle could be a total loss and it could be at least 10-14 days before that line is open again.

Welcome back CW! I missed you!

Here's a little story about why train watching has a tendency to about make me go insane:

There is a BNSF line that goes through Omaha and it goes about 2 blocks away from school and about 2 blocks away from our new house. It only sees about 10 trains each day, so seeing one is a treat. The street we take to get from school to home (Harrison Street) parallels the track the entire way. Yesterday, we got to the intersection of Harrison and 48th streets which is where we turn onto Harrison to head for home. You can see a grade crossing from that spot and my mom asked if I wanted to wait and I said no because she had had a hard day. So, of course the instant we start turning onto Harrison St. the gates start going down. We tried racing the train to the 90th street crossing which is the next closest crossing. Naturally, traffic on Harrison was so bad that the entire train had passed us by the time we got to 90th.

The trains usually fleet on this route with usually 3 trains per fleet and the trains are usually about 15-20 minutes apart. With this in mind, we decided to wait for the next one. We sat around waiting for 25 minutes and nothing else came so we went home. Home is about 2 minutes away from this crossing. The instant we pull into the garage, we hear another train going by! Angry [:(!] To make matters worse, another followed only 15 minutes behind the first. Now, why did the second have to take 30 minutes to arrive, but the third only 15 minutes? If it had been reversed, I would have seen one.

Anyway, that's my rant for the day. I'm sitting in the library at school and it sounds like they're fleeting again, so we'll try again when my mom picks me up. I'll report if I see one or not later this evening.

Sorry about the long post.

Edit: 5:15 PM: Success! After just a 10 minute wait a lovely coal train with nice brand new hoppers came roaring by. It looked like it was probably going at about 60 mph, so it was a very nice treat.

Joe, thanks.  It's good to be back online with all our family/friends (cause that's what you all are to us:  family as well as friends)!

Got a container of beef stew and a small plate of cornbread on the side, all ready for you and waiting in the fridge.

And for everyone else, the stew and cornbread are on the warmer bar, all ready for you to dig in.

Desserts tonight:  mixed fruit Jell-O w/peaches mixed in it, chocolate cake, pecan pie, chocolate pie, apple pie and peach pie.  And there's plenty of ice cream in the fridge.  Several varieties, so help yourself to the flavor of your choice.

Duff, glad to hear the dr. report was very good!!  And thank you for the welcome back.  It's good to be able to be back.

As to the modem problem, we had it fixed yesterday afternoon, then we had thunder and lightning, and it messed everything up!  I was actually on line, and I got knocked off the computer, when lights flicked off, probably between 10 and 20 seconds:  long enough to screw everything up!!  Then, we couldn't get back on.  Finally found out that there was something wrong with the wireless connection also.  But, when Sarah got home from work, she and a very, very good tech support person, got everything figured out, and working properly again.

Welcome back CW, we missed you! tried to take care of things, at least nothing went out of hand while you were away

Today I think I will eat some of those fries that I made yesterday...well, bot really. Those are probably soggy by now. So I will have a fresh plate of them...with a large Pepsi

Went to the doc's office Monday and they said that Sadie had a huge growth spurt. I gained ten pounds since the last time I went in. She obviously got bigger as well...soi they want to do a follow up on me next week. The GD test turned up negative which I am so thankful for. My mom had GD with bith me and my sister, it was amazing that I didn't get it. YAY!!!. Other than that, basically they are saying that I am "Iron Woman" in the office, they have never seen someone so healthy in that office in a while before me. That I guess says something.

Mookie, everything you requested for lunch, is on the warmer bar.  Sorry about being so late getting back in here:  sat down in my chair, and promptly fell fast alseepBlush [:I]  Guess that's what happens when you stay up till around two or a a little later, and wake up at 8:20, right?!?!

Since it's on the cool side today, temperature wise, outside, how about some nice, hot beef stew w/cornbread, for supper tonight?  Heck, I might even make that for our supper tonight, here at home, instead of what I'd intended to fix:  Betty Crocker Hamburger Helper Lasagna.

Everyone have a great afternoon, and stay warm and take care.

I could go for a reuben...and coffee, of course.  I get a little break right now, because our 'technology' has failed.  Always fun when you can't get to any of your computer files on the company server.  Who's up for a game of cards...go fish?

^ - a new voice in the diner!  OK!  I am so glad you are all back.  I had to hunt around for the thread each morning, since it would get buried overnite when you weren't here to bring it back up.

Lunch - I think we should have something very light - like......CHOCOLATE CAKE....

Maybe chef salads, fruit salads, and spinach salads; grilled cheese with bacon inside (yum), BLT's, clubs, hot beef/turkey, and tuna salad!

Then a nap....(might start with a nap, too!)

Delighted Mookie!

Good Thursday morning, everyone!!  I'm baaaaack!!!!  And it sure is good to be back!  Finally got everything going again right around midnight!!  Our DSL modem decided to "kick the bucket" Sunday afternoon, and that's why Mutt and I haven't been around.

On the warmer bar, you will find:  turkey bacon, sausage, grits, homemade buttermilk biscuits and sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, tater tots, oatmeal, toast, bagels (or beagels for Mookie), pancakes and maple syrup.

I want to thank each and everyone of you for stepping up to the plate, and keeping everything running smoothly here in the DD/CS this week.  You all did a great job.  Everything looks clean and everything is in it's place.

Do I have any requests for lunch today?
