...Congratulations to Willy on his TV appearance interview. Sure looks like you will activity seek a carer in the professional weather forecasting field.
I should have pointed out in my original post that I wasn't actually on TV. That photo was taken after the newscast. I asked CT the interview questions before the newscast and then I got to stay in the studio and watch the news before having some photos taken.
Tree - Thanks for the correction. I have always had a tough time figuring out that grammar stuff.
Here are several of the questions I asked, with CT's answers in italics:
1. How much schooling do you need to be a meteorologist?
You need to finish high school and you need to have a Bachelor's degree in meteorology. This requires 4 years of college and that is the bare minimum.
2. In your opinion, what are some of the best meteorology schools that are out there?
That's a hard one. All of them are good and each one specializes in something different. The University of North Dakota does research with radar meteorology. Oklahoma State specializes in mesoscale or severe weather meteorology. If you only want to do TV weather, Mississippi State University offers just a media broadcast program. Iowa State, University of Kansas, and University of Missouri are also good choices.
3. What tools (like computer models) do you use to make a forecast?
Radar, satellite, and surface weather observations are used. Computer models like the GFS (Global Forecast System Model), or NAM (The North American Mesoscale Model) are used frequently. There is no ideal model and there is really no right model. However, The GFS has been the closest recently.
4. Why is it that computer models don't start to really get a good handle on a storm system until it has moved onshore?
A lot of computer models use information from weather balloons and airport observation sites. These data - like temperature, dewpoint, and wind direction - have a fairly dense grid of data along the coast while out at sea there are just a few buoys that can spit out the same information. This means that the models don't really get a lot of data on a system until it has moved ashore.
5. What is your view on global warming?
Before I go on, I am not a climatologist and have not conducted researchon this very hot subject (no pun intended), but I can present to you mypersonal opinion on what I've observed and learned in school. Myopinion is consistent with your views of this topic. We've only been keeping detailed weather records for a bit over acentury now, although we do have prehistoric evidence of how the weatherbehaved long before we erected weather instruments. I think there aresome people over-reacting about the existence of global warming, butwe'd be fools to deny that it is not happening.Yes, there have been indications of higher concentrations of carbondioxide gas, a constituent gas of the greenhouse effect, that oursociety is creating into the atmosphere. I think the most reasonableaction we can take is to be good stewards of our resources. I mean, toresearch and use alternative energy sources, instead of heavily relyingon fossil fuels. I acknowledge that we have an incomplete jigsaw puzzle of our atmosphereand the only way to get more pieces is to simply do more research. Moreresearch needs to be done to investigate the amounts and kinds of gasesin our atmosphere, atmospheric temperature variations and specificreasons behind them, remote sensing with satellites to monitor ice atboth poles.I don't want to buy into either extreme end of the global warmingargument, since I don't have all the facts I need, but I think (again)the most prudent course of action is to treat our resources as carefullyas possible, until we know for sure that this is a major problem.Essentially, I'm assuming that global warming exists and is a problem, but not to the extent that we need to overreact.
This is the most reasonable and well-thought out response to global warming I've ever heard, so I commend CT for actually using his brain while discussing the topic.
There were five other questions that I asked, but I thought these were a pretty good sampling of what I asked.

Minor correction, before you turn in that assignment....
It was cool here today - sunny, though. Even with that, the random flakes kept coming down. No accumulation, just a few flakes to remind us that winter isn't quite done yet....
Had to hit the cooler for something to substitute for the lasagne (doesn't agree with me). The toast is always good, though.
Back to work tomorrow. If I didn't have a bunch of hot projects, I think it would be a good time to take a week off....
Almost time to call it a night.......

So, where do we read your interview?

Good evening.
I had an assignment over Easter vacation to ask one of our local meteorologists some interview questions. I decided that CT Thonklin, a good friend of mine and meteorologist at KM3 News in Omaha would be a good person to interview. Here is a photo of me and CT at the news desk:
The interview was a success and now my only assignment over vacation is finished.
It looks like fairly nice weather is coming for this week, but then there could be snow Friday night. If everything works out, there could even be a couple of inches of snow. It will be interesting to see how things pan out.
I've cleared everything off the warmer bar from lunch, and now have supper laid out on it: lasagna w/garlic Texas toast or your choice of garlic bread, tossed salad, and there are plenty of desserts left in the cooler and fridge from the lunch menu.
Joe, there's a plate all ready for you to take to work tonight; it's in the fridge, with your name printed in extra large print. And there's also a plate with Lance's name on it, if he comes in before he goes to work tonight. Does anyone else need a plate for work tonight? If so, there's plenty of to-go containers in storage area, under the counter, so help yourself.
Everyone have a good evening, and take care.

Good morning folks. My family gathered at my sister's place yesterday for a pork roast dinner, which was pretty good. It got up to about 36 degrees here yesterday afternoon, not too bad. We have a threat of a possible couple inches of snow tomorrow afternoon/evening. I've always thought that we could get a lot of snow before the end of April. Right now we have a temperature of 19 degrees.
Yesterday morning when I had gotten home from church, I discovered that my computer's mailbox had been corrupted, and now I can't get into it. So it looks like I will use this as an excuse to change e-mail and internet service providers this week. I've been with earthlink for the last three years and I am not real happy with their software and billing practices.

Good morning, everyone! Sounds like everyone had a great weekend. Dan, congratulations again!!
Coffee is on, hot chocolate, hot tea and hot cider are ready, also. On the warmer bar, you will find: turkey bacon, sausage, sausage gravy, homemade biscuits, oatmeal, toast, scrambled eggs, beagles for Mookie, and bear claws for Larry.
Everyone have a great day, and does anyone have any requests for lunch and supper, other than Easter Dinner leftovers?

Well, congrats, Dan! Spent the day with my own newlywed couple, attending Easter services, then enjoying dinner and a pleasant afternoon. The only down side was that heavy lake effect snow I encountered on the way south this morning. It had quit by the time I headed back home, though.
I think we might have a "house band," too, to provide the music for the reception. One heck of a horn section...
Congratulations, Dan!!!
Did everyone have a great Easter? I hope so. Today wasn't too bad for my family. We went to spend the afternoon with my grandparents and of course we had a good Easter dinner.
Two more days of vacation and then back to school. The weather looks like it will be kinda-sorta good, but maybe some rain. Oh well.

Dan, thanks for the cheesecake(s)! I have a little bit of strawberry cheesecake in our fridge, that I got yesterday. Going to have to make sure I eat my oatmeal in the morning, just to help with my cholesterol!!
And Dan, I also want to extend my congratulations and best wishes to you and your fiance!! May you both have a long, beautiful, and very loving marriage together. And yes, I imagine JHH will let you rent the DD/CS for the wedding reception.
Well, CW hopes that everyone is enjoying their Dinner today.

Dan, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!
Haven't "spoken" to jhh yet, but I would imagine that the
