Rain...finally. Strapped pontoons on the Scotties last night. Saw rabbits splashing through the yard. Crickets drowned... Mid-90's have been replaced by sixties & seventies - ecstatic!

Good Sticky Morning
Well, another sticky day for us here. 91 feeling like 108 forecast ...going to be an a/c kinda day here...yesterday it got to 95 feeling like 115 so today will seem a little cooler...lol!!
Today is my sister's birthday so we sent her an e-card...the weekend we will be celebrating it at her place....
And, I'm going to have a few gotta dos here before I kick back for the afternoon...

Sheep worked! Very well, in fact! Lots of Muttonhead Carp, obviously. Driver got quite a workout. Heron watched; Mallards watched; so I read the paper and a book. Had to abuse the Driver on way home. He parks and then sets his chair on a flat spot that is always just like an itch - right out of my reach/sight. I can't see him over my right shoulder, so I would have to get out of the car to watch. However, being WOMAN! - I have excellent hearing and can tell when it is fish coming in and Driver falling in.
Last really hot day (already) for a few....and while wondering who was winning the fishing contest, I heard the eastbound Amtrak coming & heading to Omaha and right after that, a freight - going down those same tracks SW and then west on the Hastings NE line. Quiet territory, so if it whistles, it is on the Amtrak line. Life is tough in my land, but I will adjust!
Ma Nature provided the alarm clock, and my FD pager provided the snooze alarm this morning. Pretty good thunderbumper just after dawn, and about an hour later a homeowner in a neighboring district smelled something burning.
The storm didn't bring any storm related calls, and the smell was just that, so we were back in the station in no time.
Time to start assembling my comment package on the Adirondack Rail Corridor. I'd go to a hearing, but I don't really want to have to deal with all the trail fanatics. Better to let someone read my comments in the comfort of their office.

Mookie Hit 100 today, but humidity in 30% range. What odd weather. Weather Wizards are guessing rain in next 24 hours. 30% - now how can that miss!!! They shouldn't even let them mention rain until they have at least 50% chance. Driver sez fishing early in am tomorrow - so I am off to check mah pillow for sheep.

If the crickets are singing here, you can't hear them through their parka's. All of +48F last night at 11 - didn't check overnight.
Survived the train show - talked to lots of past riders, potential riders, and rail supporters. The hearings for the review of the Unit Management Plan for the travel corridor (rail line) start tonight. I probably should attend one or more, but I think I'll spend some time and craft a good written comment. We suspect the trail supporters will be out in force.
I say I survived the show - standing on a concrete floor for several hours does take it's toll...
Now I've got to see if I can put the new show kit into some kind of order for the next user.

The crickets have stopped singing here, for a while, at least, for our daytime temperatures have dropped to the seventies and low eighties. We had welcome rain this morning, and it had stopped by early afternoon.
One evening this past week, I saw sixteen or seventeen quail in the back yard; apparently the two families were joined by another small family. It is amusing to watch them run across the yard when something attracts their attention.
I'm all alone with Holly (labmatian) right now; Katie flew to Atlanta early this afternoon (coming back late to morrow night), and Jackie is at a friend's house. I will survive.

Had to push the humidity out of the way so you could breathe! Pretty tough going.
Did manage a train or two for a few minutes. Freight and coal. Good to see more freight going thru here. Was getting pretty sparse there for awhile. How much coal can you watch? All identical even to the cute little loaf on the top!

saw a couple ns stack trains during lunch today.still no rain but cooler outside.One more day to work.The 765 is over at the CVS railroad in Akron now.Time for chores.
Well our western long period safari is starting Saturday to visit many grandchildren we have not seen. will be looking for many of the freight items that have been posted on various threads. Especially flat wheels and rough track. Will be starting a thread of trip on Passenger subject.
