My question was answered - just not here.  Shy

We have 3 state company all day and maybe tomorrow.  Super windy from Kansas and Oklahoma - so they are sending dust and pollen.  And Colorado is sending dirty water.  We are loved!

Heard on the news that we get our drinking water from wells around the Platte River @ Ashland NE (I knew that)  But they test  the water all the way out in western NE and if any pollutants are getting too close, they can switch off the wells and have back up water stored so we won't know the difference.  (I didn't know that)

I believe Omaha gets water from the Mighty Mo, so they don't get well water.

Since I am not a big water drinker, I will do my part to conserve our precious resource!

Beautiful day weather-wise, kinda gloomy events wise, as I helped provide support (traffic, and at our banquet hall) for the funeral for a 23YO young man who died in a traffic accident last weekend.  Many of his family have been involved with the FD.

Hoping to get some more work done on the kitchen roof tomorrow, before heading to the railroad for the weekend.  It's supposed to be a beautiful weekend, and the "leaf peepers" will be out in force - we apparently have over 200 riding our Utica train on Saturday.

For the moment, it's almost time for supper.

Frost on the pumpkin this morning.  Good thing I "winterized" the outdoor plumbing on the camp car at the railroad - it was undoubtedly colder there than here.

High in the 60's today - nice fall weather and warm enough to get some outside work done.

Saturday turned out to be a wonderful day, despite the promises of rain (and a shower as I left my house for the two hour drive).  I did rain to close out the day, but otherwise things were great.

The rain that arrived late Saturday afternoon was over by midnight, but the scattered drizzle lasted all day.  At least there weren't any leaves on the tracks to speak of, and I had no problem keeping our trips on time.

Headed for the TV studio in the AM to recut a commercial...

Spottings in the neighborhood:

Ranger Rick was sitting in a tree, sans hat.  I am not sure if he eats peanuts in shell or birdy seed.  But he seems to be a new neighbor until the traffic gets him.  Maybe I should leave him a reflective vest....?

Robin still sits in the dark at the edge of the feeding area.  Minute Driver heads that way to put out seed, the robin almost climbs up his pant leg.  Maybe Mama never taught him how to dig for worms.

Trackside has been great this weekend.  Saw a very long freight - couldn't count cars since I had to watch it through a loaded southbound coal train.  However, this had car haulers like you wouldn't believe.  I saw all of the big 5 - KCX included and also an old Conrail!  Not only was he pulling a lot of new cars, but he was also really heavy with what looked like iron or steel - I beams, pipes, girders and regular boxcars with who knows what in them.  Everything but coil cars and spine cars.

And then a short nap ensued.  It is quieter watching trains sitting about 25 feet from the rails than it is trying to catch a nap in any park.

Also caught a B40-8 on a local.  He must hide out in the yard.  Nice to see something old once in awhile!  Joe - caught several greenies today.  Such a nice color scheme!  Shy

Morning

Sunday school and church. Yesterday after visiting the cousins we followed the NS(nyc) line. They had a westbound autorack train with a CSX leader.(it was a former conrail engine). Going to be a great week according to the guessers.

Tree - take an umbrella to the train today!

Yep - gonna be that wonderful combination of wet rails and leaves on the tracks.  Could be "interesting."

Ah, breakfast for dinner.

The host of this month's dinner meeting of the county firefighter's association served breakfast (with real maple syrup), a change from the usual.  It was a good meeting, and I'm getting some potential speakers lined up for a training day I put together each February.

Tomorrow is "prepare for a weekend on the railroad" day.

I've seen them washing their trucks with - maybe the water.  It has been so long since we had a good rain, I don't remember.

Amtrak comes thru here in the dark - or is supposed to - normally.  Think 1am west and 4-5 am east is usual.  So everyone that has alerted me that they are coming thru then tell me they slept thru Lincoln and Omaha.

Sigh

And the place where we would park to wave is probably not the safest place to be in the dark.

And remember - we live on the side of a hill.  We send all our rainwater down the rest of the hill right into the fire department!  Actually, all streets run downhill from here and past the fire department for about another 3 blocks north.  Most interesting place in Lincoln when it is icy.

Does the fire department pay you for the water, do you pay to have it disposed, or do you get a special deal if you have a fire?

When I go back home next Thursday night-Friday morning, I expect to be on the north side of the car (the last one on the train) so I would not see you if you did come in to wave at me. I was in the last car this morning, also. It's a long walk to the station, coming into Chicago.

First things first - it was a 4 car, let me repeat that, 4 car train.  Not 125 car train.  Whole 4 cars.  Ruling out a medical emergency, I have no explanation.

BC - glad to have you back in civilization.

The south/north platte rivers will join at North Platte NE.  This is where there will be problems.  Then following the interstate - possibly Grand Island.  Lincoln just finished the "big dig", which will help with any water from our local city dam (big one).  What might find some moisture is Hobson Yard, which is very close to and even crosses Salt Creek.  Depends on how much water is "dumped" before it gets here.  Our creeks have been overhauled to the point they are pretty good at moving the water right on out, so shouldn't be much damage.  Mookieville has a very slight chance of a puddle.  Not much else.

People close to North Platte will have a real thrill watching the water converge and flow east.  Even a small rain when we were there was exciting.

And remember - we live on the side of a hill.  We send all our rainwater down the rest of the hill right into the fire department!  Actually, all streets run downhill from here and past the fire department for about another 3 blocks north.  Most interesting place in Lincoln when it is icy.
