....In line with your spotting a total tanker train Larry, on Saturday here at the restaurant we have right across the highway from the CSX double main, a total tank car train passed west bound....And I couldn't tell either what the content was...But it certainly was all tanks.

Between the ethanol trains and the crude trains, a significant amount of the traffic on the CSX line through NY these days is those black tanks.

What a structure.....and a nice group of photos Walt.  What would a bridge that impressive cost in todays' dollars....It appears like it will stand a hundred years yet.  If the support piers stay solid.

Indiana not having their side complete yet is no surprise to me....Gov. indicated all these years we still have a surplus, etc....and so on...but this is typical of so much here that is not being accomplished.

The new ramp on the Ky. side is really impressive.  Appears like it's even designed to accept vehicles in servce and or emergency.

Thanks for showing it Walt.  Oh...by the way Walt, we too had 70 degrees yesterday, Sat.

Trivia:  Agonized long enough about getting my lawn rolled....So made up my mind to purchase a pull behind tractor...roller yesterday, so now I must get busy...First get it filled with water.  Last Summer's drought...and freeze / thaw cycle over the Winter left it in serious need of rolling.

Quentin, the stories I've seen and heard say that the steel that's to be used for the ramp on the In. side is not up to standards, and will need to be replaced or something. And another reason for the delay was the lighting for the In. side. In. was to put L.E.D. lighting into the handrails.

Yes, the Ramp on the Ky. side was designed for emergency vehicle use, I believe they said it could handle almost all  of the city's fire apparatus.(if necessary.)

Well, weather here was nice today, temps right at 70 degrees so I took a bus/walking trip up to the old Big Four Railroad bridge and walked across it to the Indiana side. Indiana's approach isn't completed, should be by sometime in Aug. They opened up the bridge for pedestrian/bike traffic around the first of the year; just hadn't made it up there until today due to weather, and you fill in the blanks. Will try to attach a few pics. of today's jaunt.

Ramp going up to bridge.

Beginning of bridge

Other people walking, the lines in the center are "supposed" to simulate the old railroad tracks. (rails)

View of the ramp and the Ohio River as I was coming  off  the bridge.

The bridge was built in the 1890s(late) and rebuilt around 1930. The last train across it was a PC train in 1968, the approachs were taken out around 1973,1974. (I moved to Louisville in 1973 and there were still ramps, piers, etc. on the Indiana side then. Most of the stuff on the Lou. side was already gone.)

Hail to the Victors, Valiant!

Even though I live in NY now, I still root for Michigan teams.  Go BLUE!

Guess Michigan will face Louisville Mon. night, after U of L's win over Wichita tonight.

Police, Fire & EMS have been extra busy tonight, guess depending on outcome Mon. night they may be busier!!  I'm not a U of L fan, but it would be nice to keep the Championship team in Ky. for another year. UK last year (2012) U of L this year.

Small train show in Syracuse this weekend, so I ran down to check it out.  It was small.

It's being held at the NYS fairgrounds, which is right next to the CSX "Chicago Line."  As I was arriving a westbound could be heard approaching.  One show attendee had an "ah ****" moment as he discovered said train was all tankers, lead by three BNSF units.  With both ethanol and crude being shipped in long trains of black tankers, it's hard to tell which is which, and I wasn't close enough to catch the placards.

I don't know that he got his phone out in time to get a picture before the train disappeared behind the RR equipment on display at the fairgrounds.

One thing about those trains, though - they're all brand new cars, so there isn't a flat spot to be found.  They are as quiet as a bunch of cars can be, especially rolling on CWR.

As for the show, I picked up a coach, a few piles of ties, some people (with bicycles - I think I'll name one Carl...), and a barn.

70 degrees/sunny/trains.

Life is good!

Saw a train with many, many loaded lumber cars.  Wondering if they were headed to new houses along east coast?

And your thought for today..."A bus station is where a bus stops.  A train station is where a train stops.  On my desk I have a work station..."

Really!  Clown

Good evening everyone.  It has really been a beautiful day.  Nice sunshine, although a bit chilly, w/winds from the south, at 5 to 15 mph.  Tried to stay in the sun as much as possible, just to keep warm.

Our Saturday Night Pizza Fest is now under way, with all the regular list of pizzas, along with your choice of dessert pizzas (apple, cherry & peach), and peanut butter pie w/chocolate.

Everyone have a good evening, take care and see you all later.

The sun showed up bright and early this morning, but he forgot to bring along his companion, warm.  A whole +18F right now.  It's supposed to be much nicer tomorrow, but it's also supposed to rain.  So much for working on the yard, although at this point that's pretty much limited to picking up a few branches and the like.

Commercial train show in Syracuse this weekend.  Might run down today.

Good Saturday morning everyone!  Beautiful sunshine, and temps are mild this morning.  Beginning to see more trees & bushes starting to bud.  And yes, allergies are going haywire, as I've been sneezing for the last 2 1/2 hours.

Joe, thanks for breakfast, and you all have a great day w/the family.

I hope all of you have a fantastic weekend, enjoy the somewhat warmer temps and sunshine.  Take care, and hopefully, I'll be back in later to get the pizza fest ready for this evening.

Evening all.......

Busy day today, went over to my grandparents house and went through all his model railroad items, transported most of it to my house.  Also brought over his layout, which he based off of a project layout done in MR in 1982.  It made it over intact, though we had less than an inch of clearance moving it down the stairs into my basement.  Now, the fun part is cleaning it, and getting everything to work on it again.......

Speaking of Mookinis....

SJ, I saw a picture on Facebook of two kitties basking on beach chairs.  They had their 'kinis on, and each 'kini outfit had four tops!

Joe - 2 questions - how long will Matt be at camp and how do you watch trains w/o him?

Inching up on warmer the rest of this week.  They still tell us not to get out our kini's quite yet....

Not to worry - kini will stay in band-aid box....

.....Most reports are referring to cold but sunny weather....We can add our day very similar.  Too cold for this time of the year....Been running up to 20 plus degrees some days below normal.

However....A warm-up is {they say}, on the way with perhaps touching 70 next week.

My first order of the day was to my dentist this morning, to re do a front tooth that must have been cracked and came apart last evening....I was wondering if it could even be repaired, so later this morning we were out of the dentist...in 1hr...16min....and a brand new temp crown....and looking very good, and no problems at all.  Permanent one in about 2 weeks.  Very happy it could be redone.

No calls for help last night until after I went off duty.

Another sunny day.  And cold.  And windy.  The weatherguessers are promising us higher temps but they're awfully slow in coming.

Of course, all this wind and sun is drying things out nicely, which means we'll probably get to use our new brush truck sooner rather than later, despite a statewide burn ban that's been in effect each spring for four years now.

Which reminds me, I need to update the FD website!
