Deggesty Is spring weather going to come to Utah? Our mornings are still chilly (in the forties), and we do ahve some rain, though not enough to make certain we will not have to ration water this summer. After many years of letting you see a dog, I at last changed my picture. Last week, Katie took a picture of me while we were eating supper, using her cell phone--but it came out on its side. She tried to turn it--and it still came to me on its side. So, I turned to a picture taken last May when I was visiting old school friends in South Carolina. Next week, Katie and I are going to Bristol, Tenn., to see college classmates, and a few other people--train to Chicago and Memphis, drive across Tennessee and back to Memphis, and then civilized comfort back here.

Johnny, If I had anything to do with the weather, I would send the 70-80 degree temps back your way. (along with the rain that's causing the Spring Summer Allergy season to kick in Full Force here...ACHOO! [about 65 degrees here in the Lou. Metro area right now with light to moderate steady rain, with the chance of some severe stuff later this afternoon, evening. Lots of Thunder & Lightening this morning; got about an 1" of rain then, looking at about another 1-1/2" before it's over.]
Hope you all have Safe and Enjoyable trip!

Good Thursday morning everyone. Cloudy here in Shepherdsville this morning; around 5 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., we were getting rain, and at one point, it was pouring buckets. I could hear it hitting the roof of this mobile home of my brother's. Could have another round later this afternoon, as the cold front moves in. But at least, the weather guessers aren't predicting anything severe.
Everyone have a good day, take care and keep safe.
good morning
mother nature sending more rain today.saw an amtrak heritage unit and some private varnish go west this morning.time to send Matt to school.Larry congrats on the retirement. You know where the corn city is.Time for bed.chores and errands later.

Plan on being in Syracuse on October 15. If you got to Nebrasky, a whole gaggle of other folks would be trying to get there as well.
As of about 7:15 tonight, I handed my gold badge over to my successor after he was officially appointed to the position.
He's been my assistant chief for a couple of years, not to mention having been a member of a couple of other area fire departments, and is pretty much up on everything. I think he'll do fine.
All that changes response-wise, though, is that I won't usually be in charge. We do have a rule that the "first key in the door" is in charge until a ranking officer arrives, so I'll still be running a few scenes, and manpower is always an issue during the day.
There is the possibility of a trip further west this year. I didn't get to Michigan last year, and running on down I-94 to Chicagoland isn't that much of a reach. Don't know as I'll manage to get all the way to Nebrasky.
Then there's the railroad, which is the real time hog "in season." I already know I'm going to be in demand as we lost an engineer last year, another moved out of the area, and another will be scaling back. No rest for the weary...

Sir C: You know that Cincinnati is only about 2 inches from New York. That makes Colorado the extreme west coast and California is in the ocean. But I will forgive you - since you are married to Boss Hen!

In our warped geography (written by east coasters I'm sure), Cincinnati is midwest too.
Tree, hope the newbie knows how lucky he is having sage advice available to him. Have fun watching the newbie sweat the details and responsibilities he didn't see coming.

Yes, indeed! Congratulations, Larry!I hope this will give you a little more time to head to the Midwest (Mookie's version or mine).

The sun is still shining here in Shepherdsville; but about 10, 15 minutes ago, the wind was blowing like crazy. Had a very good breeze blowing in through the screen in the front door. But later on tonight, we have the possibility of some rain/thunderstorms, with a small chance of some severe stuff.
Larry, I second Mookie's congratulations on your second retirement! Will that allow you to go visit kids/grandkids more, along with more volunteer hours on the railroad?
Congrats on your retirement, again, Tree. I think you may have at least 2-3-4 more in your future. But this will free up time for you to fill in with something new. Keep us posted. Maybe a decent cruise line?
Well - Kearney NE - west of us about 130 miles - had straight line hurricane winds. I didn't know NE had hurricanes, but whose to argue with the media. Tore up UNK pretty well. Library out of commission for finals. We had a great rain. At least an inch or maybe a little more and it is still working on something. It is barely above freezing, so it has been wet up to now. Omaha had some baseball sized hail. Something for everyone! What a State!
We were sleeping with the ceiling fan on until last nite. Back to flannel nitey.
Raining here as I type.
Thought we were going to get hammered last night, but all the reds, yellows, and oranges stayed south of us, so all we got was some gentle rain.
Looks like we may be on the northern edge of some heavier weather, but the worst will again stay south of us.
Serving the last hours as fire chief - my successor gets appointed tonight. I've spent almost 12 years of my 35 years in the fire service wearing a white hat. But I'm still an active responder.
Good Morning
Nothing but rain in our forecast here...and it is doing just that. Raindrops keep falling on my head...
Got a whole lot of nothing much going on here today...'cept getting some housecleaning done. That I is doing right now....

breakfast is ready.Time for matt to go to school.Guessers say thunderboomers here too.time for bed.chores later today.
Good Evening
Lotsa rain for us today...downpour after downpour after downpour...then came the t'underin'boomers...with even more rain..and this will continue until Thursday the guessers tell us...obviously rubbing their hands together with glee....
for those under the weather...both literally and figuratively.
tree68 Walt - Michigan got the furthest they've been in quite a few years, and managed to do so without calling a timeout they didn't have again. Louisville certainly earned the top spot. Thunderbumpers through last night, but precious little rain. The thunder was impressive - long, low rolls that seemed to go on forever. Now we've got to see what the next (last?) winter storm brings us. Maybe it'll warm up enough before it gets here and just be a rain event...

They made it That Far, has to count for something.
Good Tuesday morning everyone. Bright sunny sky here in Sheeptown this morning, with temp around 65 degrees. Supposed to make it to 83 or so this afternoon.
Joe, thanks for the breakfast! It really hit the spot this morning, especially the coffee.
Allie and I spent a lot of time out in the backyard yesterday afternoon. She had a little power nap on the bus coming home, so no afternoon nap for her (or me, for that matter)!
Congratulations to the U of L Cardinals Men's Basketball Team on your win last night! Walt, heard on the news about all the commotion last night/early morning just a few blocks north of you. Didn't surprise me at all, since things seem to start in that area. Guess LMPD got some practice for next month's Derby Week hoopla.
Everyone have a great day, take care and see you all later.
mmmmm...I did not post the last coupla days...and I have to play catch up ....mmmmmmm
Dull and dribbly here...we had a few monsoons show up and....my lake is back!!....yep..our shared backyard lake is now in full swing here...we now have the floating dock out there....Today is calling for pretty much the same thing...showers and periods of rain..heavy at times
Not much otherwise to report here....so we be going now...have a good one!!!
rain coming our way.Brother visiting with Dad before he flies home.Back to work tonight.Need to get Matt on the bus.Breakfast is all set.

Well, the University of Louisville men's team just won the National Championship, cars are going by the house honking their horns, have heard several gun shots, police, fire & EMS aren't totally involved yet. (according to scanner.) I guess we have to put up with "sleepless night" tonight, tomorrow, U of L's women's team plays for "All the Marbles". Wondering if it's going to be a 2 night Sleepless Night!
Only good thing about it is that the Men's NCAA National Championship stays in the Commonwealth of Kentucky for another year......U of K won it last year (2012) and U of L wins it this year (2013)
[Sorry Larry, I know you're a Michigan fan.][I'm actually not a U of L fan, U of K yes!...BUT!]
Just an FYI, the Paducah & Louisville Railroad has 2 GP-38-2s painted and lettered for the 2 Ky basketball teams. 1998 for the last time U of K won(before 2012) painted Blue & White & a U of L unit painted Red & Black(numbered 3801)
The P & L Railway came about in 1987-88 bought from the Illinois Central Gulf running from Paducah, Ky to Louisville, Ky. The paint scheme they use was from a model railroader that modelled that line, and named it that for his own model railroad. He's from Lexington, Ky. home of the U of K Wildcats!
I sold the car AFTER I extracted the car from the flood. It finally ended up in East Troy Wis and is currently running.

Randy Stahl Isn't locomutt Well, weather here was nice today, temps right at 70 degrees so I took a bus/walking trip up to the old Big Four Railroad bridge and walked across it to the Indiana side. Indiana's approach isn't completed, should be by sometime in Aug. They opened up the bridge for pedestrian/bike traffic around the first of the year; just hadn't made it up there until today due to weather, and you fill in the blanks. Will try to attach a few pics. of today's jaunt. Ramp going up to bridge. Beginning of bridge Other people walking, the lines in the center are "supposed" to simulate the old railroad tracks. (rails) View of the ramp and the Ohio River as I was coming off the bridge. The bridge was built in the 1890s(late) and rebuilt around 1930. The last train across it was a PC train in 1968, the approachs were taken out around 1973,1974. (I moved to Louisville in 1973 and there were still ramps, piers, etc. on the Indiana side then. Most of the stuff on the Lou. side was already gone.) Isn't that area below where the old KRM was ? If it was it has certainly changed !!! I bought a streetcar many years ago .. when I went down to look at it and claim my prize , only the roof was visible because of flooding. Randy

Randy, that would be in the "general Vicinity" of the original K.R.M., and yes, that area floods a lot! C & O's 2716 might still be running if it hadn't been for the flood waters there/here on the Ohio River; now they have to worry about the Rolling Fork River flooding at New Haven.
[were you able to salvage any of the streetcar, or was it too waterlogged to use?!]
(R.J. Corman now uses that particular line off CSX, (old L & N) there are several industries down there, the major one shipping out stuff is Nugent Sand Company. RJC had a bunch of 100/110 ton gondolas built to ship sand towards Lexington.)
M C:
I understand, M C, that type of aerating machine does a great job. Here, I just had to do something. The terrible drought last Summer cracked open the ground...and then the freezing / thawing late Winter, etc....have played havoc with it. The drought dried out areas to where the {former very pretty grass}, was and we're still in the process of recovering from that too....All of the above makes it rough...
So after purchasing a {compromised size}, pull behind tractor, roller, I went over the complete yard today....25,000 sq. ft. It really is almost too late to roll now, but we're to have off and on rain this week....Suppose the edges of the massive snow storm passing northwest of us....Dakotas, etc...so hopeful, I can get another rolling in after some good soaking rain....{this week yet}.
Quentin
MC - if the forecast I saw on TWC is accurate, you'll want to keep the long johns available, at least for the next few nights...
Sunny and cool here. We're supposed to get rain over the next few day. The NWS says we're behind, and the Great Lakes and St Lawrence River are well below seasonal averages, so I won't complain.
Springtime in the Rockies:
(1) 70 Degrees today, snow tomorrow (thundersnow tonite?)
(2) Nigel caught a snake ( 16" Garter) yesterday and flailed it silly.
(3) Bulbs starting to poke their way out of the dirt and some sign of greening up this last week.
QM: Won't be rolling the yard, but will be aerating it (gotta go rent a swiss cheese machine/ aerator that cuts some deep plugs now and then thatch in June, hoping to keep some water in the soil (pseudo-brick) under the sod.
.....I will be watching when possible, to see if we see an increase of "tanker" trains passing thru here on CSX.
Good Monday morning to everyone! Beautiful sunshine, with a temp of 60+ degrees F., going for a high of 75 this afternoon.
Well, PJ, her son Kaiden and I made it up to Louisville for Church yesterday. After we got out, walked down to the house and saw Walt & Sarah. Enjoyed our time together, and Kaiden really enjoyed being with his Uncle Walt, and listening to his Uncle Walt, telling him about his trains on the layout. That was the first time PJ and Sarah got to meet face to face, even though they "see" each other sometimes on FB. PJ told me she really enjoyed getting to see Sarah. And she really loves Sarah's bed in her bedroom, and seeing her fish tank. I think Kaiden surprised Sarah by actually knowing which fish was what in the tank!
Everything back to normal here at my brother's, getting the girls up for school this morning. 8 1/2 yr. old Shelby is a real pain the neck to get up: "I'm tired, let me sleep a minute longer." Took me 10 minutes to get her up and out of the bed. 4 yr. old Allie, no trouble at all, and even 'beat' Sissy getting dressed.
I hope you all have a great day, take care, keep safe and see you all later.
