Ms Mook, perhaps this is what you're looking for?  It's a Leslie Tyfon A-200.

Tree:  You have worked with me in the past and I have listened to all the horns on the website.  This new one that you sent me - the first one wouldn't come thru.  2 and 3 sound pretty close, but a little higher and not as mellow as those old ones.  Being a child, they always looked big, rotund and with a very deep voice.

I also notice that the coast horns always sound higher.  Could be the way they are recorded or where they are recorded?

Not much info out there on old CBQ motors and almost nothing on horns.

But I will be content with what you have given me.  Better than nothing!

There are several models of the single note "blat" horns made by Leslie (including marine versions), as well as other manufacturers.  I found a video on a Leslie A-125 that definitely had a higher pitch.

How they're recorded could make a difference, especially moving vs still.  An approaching train at speed will sound higher due to the doppler effect.

I want to find out what kind of horn was used at the end of the Beach Boy's "Caroline No."  It's very melodic, but could well have just been done on a keyboard.  Sounds realistic enough, though.

I listened to it on You Tube - I don't think I have ever heard this song.  Wikipedia said they used a bass flute.  Haven't heard that either.

Good Friday morning everyone.  Pretty nice outside this morning, and quite pleasant for the time being.  Sun is shining, and one of Kiki's new little kittens is curled up in one of the flower boxes on the porch, fast asleep.  We have seen, but not been able to get close to, a light ash colored kitten, and a darker gray tabby (this is the one curled down in the flower box).  So we have no idea if we have another 2 girls, 2 boys or 1 each.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Breakfast is also ready, and on the warmer bar.  A variety of doughnut, danish and muffins are on the counter.

Going to be getting in the kitchen after a bit, and bake my cake that I'm taking to Church Sunday morning.  It will be a chocolate cake, and will have white icing.  The church we've visited with twice this year, is coming to St. George's Sunday.  To go along with the cake, some people are being salads, some fruit and some punch and/or sodas.

Everyone have a good day, take care, and I'll see you all later this afternoon, when I'll be fixing our Friday Fish Fry, or do you all want a Friday Fish Grill?

Morning All:

A muggy steamy soon to be HOT day here in the ArkLaTex.

I get out of work at 10:00 AM and start my drive home to San Antonio.  Its a 400 mile trip..about 7 hours...Not too bad.   I'm sure the traffic will be heavy and the police will be out in force.

Enjoy your Friday, and have a wonderful (And Safe) Memorial Day Weekend!!

Well, the good news is that a couple of pictures on FB hint that we'll have one of the RS18u's this weekend.  The bad news may be that we won't, that they only used the RS18 to haul everything up to Thendara, leaving us with an F and doing push moves for half of our runs.

Having a road switcher will also mean we'll have to do the runarounds, also a mixed blessing, as I have a couple of folks to check out this weekend, but if it stays fairly warm, will mean just that much more work in the heat.

Another day on the railroad.

Actually, per the Wikipedia article,

The sounds that were lifted for the end of the Pet Sounds album were that of Train #58, "The Owl", speeding through at 70 mph through Edison, California.

Which does beg the question (for our SP experts), of what equipment (and horns) would have been in use on SP in 1963, when the sound effects record from which the cut was lifted was recorded.

TGIF Railfans!!!!!!!

It's currently 50F and windy and they say we will get up to our season norm on low 70's later today.  Weekend forecast looks good but will be working on the Honey Do task list for most of it. Sigh

Let's not forget those this coming holiday is all about; they will be in my thoughts...

Good Saturday morning all.  No local news on yet, but have been out on the front porch, and let me tell you, at 5:15 a.m., it was very warm outside.  So guess it is going to be another hot day.

Very nice picture, Darren!  And yes, Darren, we all need to remember the reason for Memorial Day:  our brave men & women who put their lives on the line each and every day for our Country.

Coffee, juice and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Our Saturday morning brunch is ready and on the warmer bar:  bacon, sausage, eggs, toast, cereal, cantaloupe, watermelon, biscuits, sausage gravy, country fried ham, pancakes, etc.

Everyone have a beautiful, safe day, take care and see you this evening.

Good morning and peace be with you. 0800 and it is 73 and sunny  in Carolina, headed for 89 later today with a chance of thunder. Another disturbance off the coast may turn into a second tropical storm over the weekend. This one may be called Bubba so I am told.....

EDIT: I missed it on this one, Subtropical storm Beryl formed overnight, moving southwest but will swing back to the northeast and will come right over us. Looks like it will be around most of next week.

I have heard that the world's largest Schnabel car will pass through Florence in July going to and returning from Charleston. I sure would like to see that dollbaby and hope the schedule will be made available. With the homeland security mess you never know these days.

Everyone take care and have a great day

....A good holiday weekend to all.  Be safe.  Our normal location for this holiday time would be back in Pennsylvania, but we've had a bit of a detour as most of our friends know on here.

But we have been blessed with so many Prayers, that Jean's recovery and revitalized strength is continuing forward and we will hope to make our trip sometime yet this Summer.

This is noted it might be the hottest day yet, for running the Indy 500.

We're in a string of 90's plus days now until early next week.

Sunshine, heat and humidity.

But we're having a good day....

Did a Quick Google Search and in 63 the Owl would have had F's on the point of it for Power as the Daylight was being pulled by the PA's still so I am thinking whatever Horns the FP-7 had on it and everything I can find says it was the old M5 Nathan series it might have had a bad Bell on it someplace also.

Quentin, if you hadn't mentioned the Indianapolis 500 first, I would have. I think I may have missed watching 2 of the last 20 races, or so. Glad to hear it will be hot, which I presume will mean no precipitation. I hate waiting around for rain delays. Good to hear Jean is getting even better.

Mom moved into her new home on Tuesday. So far, so good. There is always the usual foolishness associated with changing addresses, like getting the phone and Cable TV sorted out, and changing the address for her newspaper. Speaking of which, I was astounded to learn that the main local newspaper here has outsourced handling of their change of address requests. You have to give "props" to the guy that came up with that as a business, but still, what a ridiculous business to be in!Surprise

My brother, sister, and I met last night and the official decision was taken to sell Mom's house. It was quite the momentous decision to make, but it seems all three of us went into the discussion with the same mindset from the start. But of course selling a house has its' own kind of foolishness to contend with.

The CPR strike continues.

Well, our VBS planning is going full steam ahead:  we got a lot more accomplished this afternoon, including a couple of the guys getting the banners up outside, to advertise for VBS, which starts 1 week from Monday:  we'll be meeting this coming Wednesday, and next Saturday.  Next Saturday, we'll be putting everything up in the gym and Church, along with having a mandatory session to be 'certified' on Sexual Misconduct Training, so we all know what conduct is not allowed towards the children and teens.  I believe all the volunteers already know it, but it is something we have to go through.  That will be towards the end of our meeting time next Saturday, after we get the gym actually set up for VBS week.

Quentin, I'm so very glad to hear that Jean is doing so well in her recovery.  You two will be able to make your visit back to PA before you know it.  And I'll still be saying prayers for you two, and for everyone else who needs them.

It has been really hot here this afternoon.  Coming out of the gym, and walking 2 doors to the house, I was sweating like you wouldn't believe.  I was totally glad to get into the house, where it is nice and cool.

Here is our Saturday Night Pizza Fest menu:

01.  Anchovie

02.  Canadian bacon

03.  Cheese

04.  Chicago style

05.  Goetta

06.  Ham & green pepper

07.  Hawaiian

08.  Italian sausage

09.  Pepperoni/mushroom

10.  Supreme

For Dessert we have:  Ice cream sandwiches, drumsticks, Fudgecicles (sp?), Sundaes, ice cream cones, or just plain ole bowls of ice cream.

You all have a good evening, take care, try to stay as cool as possible, and I'll see you all in the morning.

.....Thank you friends....We really have had a good week for Jean.

No comparison to back just 2 weeks ago.

Here, today...Hot, hot, hot....and with humidity.  Big time.  Saw 95.7 this afternoon.

Not sure just what the forecast is for tomorrow, but earlier they seemed to be talking just of extreme high temps for tomorrow's Indy 500.  Maybe even a record high for the date.

Right now...I've been on this computer killing a bit of time, waiting for it to cool off a bit so I can go mow the yard.  It's clear here now and the sun has been beating down all day.

Then we have the Nascar World 600 tomorrow later in the day....So lots of racing tomorrow.

Guess I'll go check what it feels like outside, and see if I might go start mowing....Everyone enjoy the holiday weekend.

Good Sunday morning.  72 degrees here in Louisville at 5:33 a.m., going for a high of 97 degrees this afternoon.  Going to be a hot, hot, hot day.  And you can feel the humidity out.  I'm half way surprised that one of the cats didn't run in the door, when I was coming back inside, from getting the newspaper.

Coffee, juices, Gatorade, lemonade, iced tea are all fresh and ready.  If anyone wants hot tea, have plenty of tea bags and hot water.  On the food bar this morning:  bacon, eggs, toast, cereal and milk.

Everyone have a good morning, take care going to Church, work, rail fanning, whatever/wherever you need to be this morning.  Keep safe, and please remember the true reason we have this holiday this weekend:  all our military men and women, past, present and future.

....77 here this morning at 8 am.  So...we're in for another hot one here along with the high humidity.  But sunshine is in full swing.

We're getting ready to attend our Church Service in about an hour, first since Jean's op.

Looks like the only weather trouble spots are in the southeast coastal area.....and quite a bit of stuff going east above us....and on out towards the northeast.

Everyone be safe out there this holiday travel time....Should be lots of traffic with fuel price modulating a bit.

Joe and everyone else, got plenty of cold liquids on hand:  Gatorade, lemonade, sodas, fruit punch, iced tea (sweet & unsweet.)

Have have a bunch of cold, cold salads made up for this hot hot afternoon. There's also ice cream, and various other variety of ice cream novelty treats.  Anything to stay as cool as possible, right?

At last check, our local temp was 92 degrees (that was about a half hour, 45 minutes ago, when  I first got on the computer).  Can't stand to be outside very long at all, unless it is in the shade, sitting on the porch, in the glider, and only then for about 5, 10 minutes; then it's back inside where it is nice and cool!

Everyone take care, stay as cool as possible, and see you all later.

Get to work tomorrow, 8 straight and 8 at time and a half, so the incentive is there!

Been in the middle 90's all week, might trade Big Q his version of humidity for ours!

Glad to see Jean doing so much better, hope church lifted her spirits.

Went to the National Cemetery today, polished up my parents markers, placed flags, and watched the Scouts cleaning the place up for tomorrow.

Ed, Jean stood up like a real trooper this morning in church, and gave thanks to the Lord for bringing this situation all thru to success.

We've a ways to go yet, but we've had a really good week.  And certainly so much, much better than just 2 weeks ago.  In fact we had our Sunday meal with friends today at Olive Garden.

Yes, I can see you have an incentive to go right to work tomorrow....

And I imagine you really do have humidity down there in swampland, and close to the Gulf.

But this stuff up here in Indiana can get brutal too....My indoor / outdoor instrument showed 96.7 at a bit after 5....and soupy humidity with it.....I didn't see just what that figure was.

Peace be with you. 74 and cloudy in Carolina, neaded for 85 and more clouds later. I watched the storm reports from Channel 4 in Jax on the web for a while last night. When I had an outside antenna years ago, I could get it direct when ch 4 in Charleston signed off for the night.

The boffins allow that beginning Tuesday, Beryl will be here as a depression and we should get torrential rain for a while. That would be welcomed, up to a point anyway.

One of the Folkston railcams went down earlier while I was watching it. Maybe they can get it going soon.

Everyone have a great and safe Memorial day. Remember the sacrifices that keep us free.

Good Monday morning, and Happy Memorial Day (hey, we need a flag emoticon!).  Let all of us remember the true reason we're celebrating today:  to Honor all our military personnel who paid the ultimate price for keeping our country free:  their lives.  If nothing else, look up to Heaven above, and say a Thank You to them all for their sacrifice.   And to all vets who are still with us, whenever you see them, stop and shake their hand, and say "Thank you for serving our Country".  (Actually, we all need to do that each and every day, not just on Memorial Day or Veterans Day.)

Morning beverages are fresh and ready to go, including hot water for hot tea and coffee;  and on the warmer/cooler bar, you'll find a selection of food from bacon, eggs, toast, fresh fruits (including watermelon, cantaloupe), to cinnamon rolls and patriotic cupcakes.

Did anyone catch the National Memorial Day concert up in DC last night on PBS?  Walt and I were watching it, when someone from the Parks Dept. came over the speakers and asked that everyone start calmly leaving, due to severe weather.  So instead of getting to see the rest of this year's concert, they reran last year's concert with B.B. King.

Everyone have a good, safe day today, keep cool and hydrated.

Believe our current temp is 91 degrees at 3:50 p.m.  Very hot outside, but at least we've got a slight cool breeze blowing, so not too awfully bad out.

Here is our menu for this evening:

Grilled hamburgers, cheeseburgers, brats and hot dogs, baked beans, corn on the cob, grilled 'baked' taters, slaw, potato salad, German potato salad, macaroni & cheese and green beans for anyone not wanting baked beans.

Hope everyone is enjoying the day.  Take care and have a good evening.
