Actually, on a sadder note, the mother of our playmates from across the road at Irricana is having her funeral this afternoon. She was the first adult I can remember that wasn't related to me. All in all a very sad milestone for me today.

Joe, they would be smart to stay east for a couple of days.  They would run into 6-10 inches of very wet snow if they tried to cross central/western NE today and tomorrow.  So far, just rain and that has stopped, but the goodies begin tonite and all day tomorrow.

Bought extra corn and peanuts for the wildlife and soup and popcorn for the quietlife.  Storm

Well, I have been busy browsing the internet today for a new cell phone:  mine fell out of my pocket yesterday, onto the floor at the grocery store, and will no long work.  Finally found one, and they are now processing the order (or will first thing tomorrow morning).  Should have it Saturday, or Monday at the latest.  Am able to keep my phone #, so that will be a BIG help (won't have to memorize a new phone #!

Supper menu for tonight:

1.  Sauerbraten

2.  Beef and noodle casserole

3.  Fried liver w/carmelized onion

4.  Wiener Schnitzel

Veggies:  Candied sweet potatoes, green beans and ham, fried green tomatoes, buttered lima beans, braised red cabbage, corn, hash brown potatoes, cornbread

Desserts:  Butterscotch pie, lattice-top apple pie, strawberry-rhubard pie, Shoofly cake, Pa. Dutch cruellers and Pa. Dutch yeast doughnuts

Hope everyone has had a good day, enjoy your supper and your evening, take care, and see you in the morning.

Let's see:  Annie Green Springs, Blue Nun, Pinot Grigio, Gerwurztraminer (Sir Chicken - Driver sez that last one should make the asparagus really grow ....Grumpy

They are predicting 6-12 inches of snow Fri-Sat somewhere in Nebraska.  They can't seem to make up their minds just where.  Looks like for sure the SW corner will be buried, but other than that, they can't predict if we will or won't here in the SE corner.  So I am laying in my supply of "whine".....

Bruce - my dad worked when engineers used to wear overalls - you know - "bibbies".  My mother used to starch and iron them as well as his cap since they stayed clean longer.  And he always wore one of his older ties with it.  Then when they relaxed the dress code, he went to wash pants, sport shirt and tie....excitement at our house was on Tuesday when mom had to iron those bibbies and cap, a job she did, but hated every minute of it.  I would sit on a chair and watch her and think it looked kind of fun.  Silly me!

This Just In: Canadian Groundhogs predict early spring. Wiarton (ON) Willie, and Shubenacadie (NS) Sam both didn't see their shadow's. We no longer have an Alberta Groundhog, as our representative Balzac Billy, was involved in a scandal. It seems his owner had been using a stuffed replica with carefully orchestrated photo-ops for several years before being found out. And besides, Groundhogs were never indigenous to Alberta anyway.

It is only 22° and clear now, with a high of 36° later.

We too are in to another nice February day.....Hazy, and early fog, but sun is getting thru at times.  Mod. temps.  Extended weather forecast indicates, pretty decent weather next 7 days...including temps generally in the 40's.

I will not complain about that.

If this continues though, growing things are going to pre emerge believing Spring has arrived, and will really get messed up.

Another very nice day here also, thinking about getting the bike out again today.(have the last 2 days, been in the 60s.)

Quentin, You are quite right about weather/things being "messed up", I'm not sure the Robins around here ever went anywhere during what little bit of actual cold weather we've had. Been seeing bunches of them around our yard for the past several weeks.

Good morning and peace be with you. 63 and cloudy, although there is sun at the moment. We are supposed to get some rain over the next few days, and we can surely use it. We are at a 22" deficit in that dept.

Much hubub at the present. The propane man just made a delivery and rattlled the gate a little while doing it. This upset the girls something awful and they reacted like the mafia or something was out there. If it was a crook tho, I doubt they would make a sound....

Everyone take care and have a great day.

Good Thursday morning everyone.  43 degrees here in Louisville this morning, going for a high today of 59, 60 degrees.  Should be another nice day around here.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Breakfast is ready and on the warmer bar.

Got a nice little rain shower last night.  When I went to bed around 9:30, it was still raining, but everything is dry this morning.  Hope you all had a good day yesterday, and will have  very good day today.  Everyone take care, and see you all later.

Good evening. I thought I would drop by for a late supper.

34° now and it was up to the high forties today. The snow is melting away pretty quickly.

I was up visiting my Mom on Sunday, and then on Monday I had the thought that I am now older than my Dad was when he accepted early retirement. When the Calgary-Edmonton Dayliner (RDC) was discontinued, the CPR was able to downgrade the signaling system from ABS and TT&TO to a system called MBS, a predecessor to OCS (US TWC). The company offered early retirement to the top twelve men on the seniority list so they wouldn't have to layoff the bottom twelve, only to have to retrain men at some point in the future.

When he was offered retirement he was 57 years 8 months old, and he seemed like an old guy then. Now I am one week shy of being 57 years 10 months old. He had planned on retiring at 60, but they offered to pay 80% of his final wage until he was 65, when he would go on full pension. It was too good an offer to pass up and as it turned out he passed away four months shy of his 65th birthday. He was still with it enough at the end to be annoyed that after all those years of paying into the plan, he was never going to collect a single cheque from it.

Over on the Classic Trains homepage is another thing my Mom periodically brings up. Under the heading of "Mix-up on the Ripley Mixed" is a photo of the first diesel engine on a B&O branchline. If you blow the picture up you will notice that the Engineer is wearing a Tie with his Overalls. My Mom always comments on how Engineers had enough respect for their position and the company to wear ties. Now T-shirts and jeans with a baseball cap seems to be the more favoured look. I guess those were the days.

No new RR news, which might mean that CN has been able to lift the slow order on the Fabyan Trestle where the grain cars derailed and fell off a week ago.

Been a busy day around here, what with going to the grocery store this morning.  Had to stock on some food items, both for here and home.

Very nice out, although the sun has gone in behind the clouds.  Current temp is somewhere in the low 60s, with just a touch of a breeze.  Really, really nice for Feb. 1st.

Here is our menu for tonight:

1.  Sloppy joes w/fries and garden salad

2.  Grilled pork chops w/fresh cooked broccoli and garden salad

Everyone, hope you've had a very good day, will have a good evening also, and I'll see you all later on.

Smile Thank you Darren for your effort to post the information on the "trammer".

                                         Respectfully, Cannonball

No Problem Cannonball, when I get to that RRAdventures trip report I was going to need to track down that photo anyway.  I always try to photograph the signs at displays to capture whatever I can about the display since I tend to be about a year behind in trip reports and will forget the details if they are not photographed.

.....Appreciate someone "policing" the "bad, and unwanted" from our activities here on the fourm.....{Darren}.

Our Feb. 1st {how welcome}, is bright partly sunny, and mild here today.

Yesterday, on the golf course behind us, we had golfers, and some had on shorts...!  Jan. 31th...!  There are golfers on this course every month of the year at sometime...regardless of it being Winter part of the time, but that is a bit more doable now.  Min. amounts of snow so far this season, had really brought out quite a few in just passed January.

That is quite a snow plow the engine carries in Darren's photo of the Cumbres &Toltec Scenic Railroad.

It's 27F here and they are talking about some serious white stuff coming our way in the next day or two.  Already had to pull over two SPAMMER posts today so this RR Forum Cop would like his coffee a bit stronger today with maybe a hint of Jack in it please. Coffee

Good Wednesday morning everyone.  Well, we are now into a new month, and a 'short' one at that, at least by a day or two, as this apparently is Leap Year.  Wonder what that ole goundhog will do in the morning.

We are starting off with a temp of 53 degrees this morning, going for a high of 61, two degrees cooler than yesterday.  The rain that came in last evening has left the area, and things are beginning to dry out.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Breakfast is on the warmer bar.

Hope you all have a good morning, take care, and I'll see you all later on.  If anyone has any menu ideas for today, just let me know.

#17 rests today as an outdoor display at the "Western Museum of Mining and Industry" and I will see if I can dig up a photograph on the sign in front of the engine tonight when I'm home.  I took that photo back in July 2010 as part of what I called my "2010: Railfanning South of Town" RRAdventures trip that I will post more about later in a trip report topic here.

OK, rested up from the train show last weekend (drove home Monday and slept a lot after that).  Their gate was almost 23,000 people, and they estimate with passes the total attendance for the weekend was 25,000.  That's a lot of people.  Then, again, it is the biggest RR show in the northeast.

Fixed a problem with the heat at the fire station, so that'll warm up again.

It hit 40-ish here today.  Although there was an inch or two of snow while I was out of town, it's almost all gone (again).  My well is not going to like this come August.

Time for supper.

Good afternoon everyone.  Produce went well this morning.  We had 68 people, and handed out the produce outside this morning.  With a temp in the low 50s, it wouldn't have been bad, if the breeze didn't have a good kick to it.  By the time I got home, just before 10 a.m., my feet felt like ice.  On the truck today:  potatoes, pomegranites, cabbage, and salad mix.

Here is the menu for the rest of the day:  Mexican Fiesta Day:

1.  Burritos (beef, beef & bean, beef burrito deluxe enchilada style

2.  Tacos (soft shell and hard shell)

3.  Taco salad

4.  Chimichangas

5.  Fajitas

Side dishes:  Spanish rice, refried beans, chopped lettuce w/diced tomatoes and bits of onion for anyone who wants them.

Also have plenty of tortilla chips w/picante sauce, salsa and con queso.

Everyone have a good afternoon, take care and see you all later.
