.....Sure appears to be a former depot....and now a possible library.

We have a WINNER!!!!!!! Geeked

Yes, that is the old Denver, Utah and Pacific (DUP) Depot in Lyons, CO and now the local Library.  It's made of the same sandstone that the railroad was hauling out.

Well, since it is a cold, dreary day, how does this sound, for our meal, for the rest of the afternoon and tonight?

1.  Vegetable beef soup w/baked cornbread

2.  Chili (mild and medium hot) w/your choice of saltines or oyster crackers

3.  Walt's grandmother's Italian spaghetti casserole w/garden salad and your choice of garlic Texas toast or Italian breadsticks

Managed to renew my library books online, so all I have to do later is take a quick trip up to the grocery/pharmacy and pick up my meds for the rest of the month.

Everyone have a good afternoon, keep warm and toasty, and see you all later.

Sure don't like to see depot's without tracks.  But better to at least have the building and see it still there in decent shape, and being used.

Sunshine in my east window of our home office here.  But overnight, a dusting of snow....I'm going to call it one half inch, but probably not quite.  Anyway, it is a bit above freezing, and with the sunshine out....doubt, if we'll see any more now.

Friday, may produce a bit more, but that doesn't seem like much coming this way either.

I will add one half inch here to my unofficial snowfall recording for the season.  That would put it, for a total now;  11"   Way down compared to the last few years.

And the heating degree days...Awesome.  Much lower than "normal", and even last year....Haven't figured it, but I'd say 20% {at least}, below....Meaning warmer amb.

Good Wednesday morning everyone.  Temp is 32, 33 degrees, and had snow earlier, but it has gone now.  Streets are just wet, The only slick spots are bridges and overpasses, of course.  But they're not too bad. according to the reports I've heard this morning.

Coffee, juices and all the other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Breakfast is on the warmer bar.

Everyone have a good day, enjoy it, take care and see you all this afternoon.

Well - don't get on the computer all day, and see what I missed?  A belated Happy Anniversary to the happy couple!

Picked up "Sim City Societies" the other day for the computer.  We had the orginal "Sim City" some time back, and it can be addicting.  This version was, too, until the computer locked up.  Apparently the game and something running on the computer don't get along, as the video card was giving me some problems even if the program wasn't running.  So it's getting uninstalled as we speak.

Possible snow near the weekend - which figures, as we're planning a work detail at the RR shop this Saturday.  If anybody wants to help strip the paint of an RS81u, let me know...

Still cold (low twenties to mid-forties) and dry here. I do not recall the numbers for our area, but the precipitation for the current water year is below normal; I trust I will be able to get clean next summer (at the expense of the grass if necessary).

I am sure most of you have seen, in the national news, the horror story that took place in Washington state Sunday. Somehow, I have missed any TV national news of the event in which a man killed himself and his two young sons. He had sent a email to someone saying that he could not live without them, and when a social worker brought them to him for a supervised visit he pulled them into the house, kept the worker out, and set fire to the house.

He, his wife, and two sons had lived in this area until his wife vanished, without trace, a little over two years ago. It was thought this past summer that there were two leads as to where her body could be, but nothing was found. It was learned that both his father and he had unhealthy appetites concerning sexual matters, and the boys were living with their maternal grandparents.

Someone who knew the family has commented that he thought of the boys not so much as sons but as personal possessions, which can give some understanding (but no excuse)--"if I can't have my boys, no one else can."

Our local police chief has said that the matter of the missing wife is not closed.

It is a sad story.

Thank you all for the anniversary wishes.  It has been a pretty good day.  Although, by the time I got home from Produce this morning, I had to go to bed:  was so cold, that I couldn't sleep, for shivering.  Think I have finally warmed up.

Mookie, I did have a slice of chocolate pudding cake, and a few Reece's minis, so I did get some chocolate.  As for the anniversary card from Walt, it had candy wrappers (like the Reece's Peanut Butter Cups come in) printed on the card!  Guess we'll be getting snow coming in sometime by morning.  Not supposed to be much, maybe just a light dusting.  But the breeze is picking up outside, and you don't want to stay outside very long at all.

For supper tonight:  steak, baked taters and garden salad.

Dessert:  chocolate cake, lemon meragne (sp?), pecan pie and peach cobbler.

Everyone have a good evening, and see you all in the morning.

....Now that is a neat photo, and snowplow rig Darren.  But my first thought is how can the horsepower of that rig....and the traction {it would have}, really perform it's duty with any snow of consequence.....?

Happy Anniversary from me too!  Cake Please! Dinner

It's 19F and it's lightly snowing here but should not amount to much.  Nothing new on the D&H Rocky Mountain Empire just slowly loading my Roster Photos into my secondary blog for easy of inventory tracking.  Just finished up uploading my Tank Cars yesterday.  Have yet to do any RRAdventures trips or Trip Reports in 2012 but they will come.  Lets see, what random photo from RRAdventures to pick today...

Ah yes, this seems appropriate for today

Good Tuesday morning everyone.  And wishing my husband, Walt, a Happy Anniversary, on this, our 25th wedding anniversary.

It is cool again this morning, temp is about 32, 33 degrees.  But at least no pesky fog this morning.  Should make it to about 53 degrees again today, with plenty of sunshine, before rain comes back in tomorrow.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the warmer bar this morning:  bacon, sausage, eggs, pancakes and syrup.

Everyone enjoy your morning, take care, and see you all after I get through with Tuesday Produce/Bread-Pastry trucks.

That's D&RGW #044 - Spreader.  Here is info I have on it right now... Idea

Rollins Pass Restoration Association member, Jim Yust, is spearheading the restoration of Denver & Rio Grande Western Spreader 044 (91,000#) which is now located at the Grand County Historical Society Museum in Hot Sulphur Springs. The 'Spreader' had a snow plow blade on the front and pushed with a locomotive engine from the rear. Spreader 044 was a homemade construction in the Rio Grande Western’s Burnham Shops, in Denver during 1918 from a former Rio Grande Western flatcar that was built in 1901. Only three of the Spreaders were built and the one in Hot Sulphur Springs is the only one remaining. It spent most of its operating life based in Helper, Utah, but made many trips over the Moffat Road for service in Denver. Hot Sulphur Springs is a great day trip and seeing the museum and the Spreader. Contact Jim if you are interested in helping on the project or watch for upcoming work days to be posted on our Facebook page.

Looks rather like the collision of a Jordan Spreader and a boxcar...

The light show on my dashboard is gone, to the tune of almost $300.  All the "idiot" lights that had anything to do with the brakes were lit up.  It was one of two components, but I don't know if it was the most expensive one.  Fortunately the dealer had an antilock braking system module in stock, so it's fixed.

Time for a trip to the transfer site with some recycle.

....Good view of the "elderly" snow plow....But the plow seems small for a specially made unit for such duty....Were they thinking the pointy front of the unit was "part of the plow"....Just a bit strange appearing.

Good Morning Railfans!

It's 16F with a hint of sunshine here at Mile High.  So, who won the game yesterday, I'm thinking Betty White of the dog that fetched the beers, the Viper Party was also good.  Our latest snow storm broke a 100+ year old record and my back believes it...

Before I forget for a second time today:  Happy Birthday, Jay Eaton!!  Even though you haven't been in for awhile, that I know of, still wanted to send you bday wishes.  Hope you're having a very good day, and enjoying your birthday to the fullest.  Many happy returns to you, Jay!! Happy B-Day Happy B-Day Happy B-Day Happy B-Day

Here's our Saturday Night Pizza Fest lineup:

01.  Anchovie (with a candle in one of them, for Jay)

02.  Canadian bacon

03.  Cheese

04.  Chicago style

05.  Goetta

06.  Ham & green pepper

07.  Hawaiian

08.  Italian sausage

09.  Pepperoni/mushroom

10.  Supreme

Did manage to find me a different cell phone case this afternoon.  It has a lanyard, so don't think I'll be dropping this one, or it falling out of a pocket, etc.

Everyone have a good afternoon/evening, take care, and see you all tomorrow.

Paula,

Thanks for the greetings.  Had dinner out with family to celebrate.  Unlike so many in the past, this birthday came with fairly nice weather and I didn't think of my long standing wish to have a birthday party someplace poolside with palm trees shading a warm tropical sun.

....The cleaning up in Indianapolis is well underway.  I'm sure there is plenty to clean...

The city must have been inundated with people and activities.  Indy has all the big stuff concentrated right downtown, and not spread out into the fringes.  So downtown, is where it was at...."It" being the excitement, and activities.

Including the state of the art "Lucas Stadium".

A cool morning here, about 29 when I first looked....Some fog, but it cleared pretty quick here.  Sunshine now.  Will reach about 50 degrees today.  Absolutely no snow.

Good morning and peace be with you. 42 and cloudy in Carolina this morning. It is expected to get to 57 with a 20% chance of rain. FB is alive with shouting and gnashing of teeth over the super bowl last night. I actually forgot about it until it was just about over....

The Dalton gang pulled off their first train robbery this day in 1891, just so's yall'll know.

Not much to report this morning, so until later....

Good Monday morning everyone.  Randy, glad to see you were able to make it in here last night.  Good to see you, whenever you can drop by.

A little on the chilly side this morning, with a temp of 31, 32 degrees, some fog in the outlying areas, but I don't detect any in our neighborhood.   Supposed to make it up to about 51 degrees today.  Yesterday's high topped out at 48 degrees F.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  And breakfast is ready and waiting on the warmer bar.

Hope all our friends in Colorado, Nebraska, etc., can start digging out of the snow this morning.  Guess it's a good thing the Super Bowl wasn't played anywhere around there!

Everyone have a good morning, take care, and see you all later.

Randy.....we've been in almost snow free county this Winter season.

My unofficial count here at home total so far is:  10.5"  First tiny flakes seen Nov. 10th...And the temp. is avg. about 20% {heating degree days}, below normal.  {Warmer}....Keep waiting for the big change, but continue to hear weather people saying...."not seeing any big storms, etc..." yet.

And Jen....If one cares to see " a group of people having fun with music"......Check out a dance floor with Polka music.

I come from an area with lots of certain groups of people from European backgrounds....Offspring from parents, and now mostly grandparents, that immigrated to this country...almost a hundred years ago...Mining and steel mills, etc......

I even have some Polka music on my computer here.  But sounds like Chet Atkins and similar were just fine with me....In fact, we've heard quite a bit of C A this afternoon on XM radio.

Walt.....That comic is "Pickles", and it is in our paper.  Love it.
