What - there's a game on?

Actually, I just checked, and there's 9:24 left in the fourth quarter.  Which means they'll actually finish the game in what, an hour and a half?

On the cabin - it's a laser-etched item, and the detail is pretty good - the logs even line up.  There's a bit of a warp in the one-piece roof, but it gives the place a 'lived in' look.  Same with the crooked post on the front porch.

Enhancements will include some chopped firewood on the front porch.

Almost time for my bedtime snack, which means bed can't be far behind.

Evening, everyone.....

Bruce, don't blame you for not watching the game, I'm sitting in my semi, busily having a good time online.....

I have no idea what happened to our January slump, because I have been running the wheels off since Christmas.  Sitting near Cleveland, OH, now, waiting for the distributor to open tomorrow morning so I can unload.  So, went online and ordered some more Wisconsin Central cars, which I'm sure my sister will just love seeing (and anyone who believes that will buy Tennessee beachfront property....)

Had do-it-yourself mac and cheese in the truck tonight, via my lunchbox oven, A.K.A. a Burton oven.  This little gem will cook quite a few things, as Walt knows from last night, I cooked up pork chops in it.  Worked out pretty good, but I don't think I will make that too often, was very rich for my liking....

Quentin, did not get much snow south of Chicago Friday night, what little fell melted in short order.  I certainly am enjoying the snow-free driving conditions this winter, however......

See everyone later....

Indeed it is.  N Scale, actually.  You can just see the tip of a #11 blade on the left side of the picture.

I see I need to paint the underside of the eaves.

This will sit next to the 100 foot (about 7 inches) fire tower I have yet to build up the courage to build.  It's etched brass and each stair and landing is a separate assembly.  The cabin will be where the ranger stays when he/she is working the tower, and will also be surrounded by chain link fence (also etched brass).

The fire tower is actually a pretty fair representation of those that used to populate this area - not big enough to live in, like those out west.

Larry, That is a Very Nice model, I'm sure it will look Very Good on your layout. I dabbled in "N" Scale a bunch of years ago, but my eyes seemed to like "O" Scale better (2-rail)

Found a cartoon the other day, some of you all may have seen it, it doesn't come in our daily paper, we get this one on the internet through Arca-Max.

Larry, that is a great looking cabin. Now if only I had a real one located in a picturesque wooded area with a view of a lake and the CPR mainline. I would have to win a lottery and then I could buy a nice comfy chair to put on the porch and watch the world pass by.

Back in the real world it is 43°, sunny, and a very nice day here.

Hope everybody's favourite team wins the Superbowl, although I will take a pass on watching it myself.

Mookie, I totally agree with you and Cannonball.  What is called 'music' today, is not music in my opinion.

Well, believe it or not, I managed to make it to Church this morning.  Went up to the corner, to St. George's, where I'm at every Tuesday morning.  The heat is out in the Church, so we moved the services over to the gym, where there is heat!  It was a really nice service, although, with the heat blowing right above my head, I did have a little bit of trouble hearing the minister.

For our Sunday Dinner, here is the menu:

1.  Grilled chicken

2.  Leftover pizza from last night

3.  Burgers, cheeseburgers w/garden salad and fries (your choice of regular or curly fries)

Everyone have a good afternoon, and see you all later.

Trust me - I didn't open the door this morning and go frolic in it.  Grumpy

Well, Mudchicken sent it all over here and after it dumped on us, it pretty well disappeared.  We ended up with lots of broken trees (this is how you find out where all those rotten core trees are) and 11 inches of white stuff stuck to the north side of everything.

Jim - so many of those bygone singers were so easy to listen to and even the songs from the 50's and 60's were easy listening or at least fun.  They say that history repeats itself - in that respect, I hope so.  Would have a lot less hearing problems.

Whistling Yeah Ms. Mooks; you are absolutly right  about the " singers?".  The ones that are irritating to me are those who (sing) off key with the National Anthem and forget or make up their own words.  Wonder what became of  Martha Tilton  style or Dinah Shore? Todays screamers sure give audio speakers a work out.Don't forget Andy Williams  or  Bing Crosby.    The music industry is in sad shape.

I expect we'll see Ms Mook's ears peeking out from behind a snowdrift this morning.

Snow in the area - but not here at the house.

Breakfast is out of the way.  Time to mosey down to the local convenience store for the Sunday paper (and an equal amount of advertising inserts).

Good Sunday morning everyone.  Hope you all had a good evening.  Temp is somewhere in the 40s, and so far, it is cloudy, with an occasional light rain.  Should be sunny later on, towards afternoon.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Breakfast is on the warmer bar, including some cold pizza, if that is what you want for breakfast.

Everyone have a good day, and I'll be back later with our Sunday Dinner offerings.

According to the forecast on The Weather Channel last night Ms Mook was "in for it" with estimates of up to a foot of snow for the entire event.  Haven't watched TWC today, so don't know if Mike Bettes is doing reports from Madam LaMook's lanai.

Up here in the north woods, the sun is out and all we've got for snow is leftovers that haven't managed to melt yet.

Strange stuff...

In early 1959 I was anticipating the birth of my younger sister (got to get her card out soon).  That summer we moved into the village from the farmhouse we'd been in for the past few years.  I was able to finish third grade at one school (Miss Bridges) and start fourth grade at the new one.

Music at our house at the time was "middle of the road," usually via WJR in Detroit.  At the time, MoR was Rosemary Clooney, Perry Como, and the like.  It was a couple more years before I discovered rock and roll.

EmbarrassedNot quite, I never did well with Math! I did, however start going to school at age 5 1/2.

Ah - a chicken in an airport.  That should make for some interesting stories.

You know - if you are going to have a snow, this would be a good one.  I don't know how much - it will take at least 2 days for weather service to find a ruler to go measure - but will guess about 7-8 inches.  It is 31 and the snow is very, very wet.  Just barely snow.

Driver shovelled a place for the bird/squirrel seed and it is all water.  For now.

Tree - I was just thinking the other day - how many Perry Como's do we have today?  Some singers today can't sing and really work at not doing so.

Sir C - the most dangerous part besides flying over Lincoln will be the trip home.  Please be careful.  Mudchickens are scarce as.....hen's teeth.

Sitting at the airport at Philadelphia trying to go home. Assume the cat is getting the net ready at Lincoln. When I get back to Denver, hope the diagonal trip across town from "Bagdad on the Prairie" is not too bad, then I can join Lion in the shovelling -out process. I'm told that boss-hen keeps track of the dogs by looking for black tails waving above the snowline.

PDN was nice enought to allow me to encroach on his turf for a while. We've now seen each other take a stab at teaching....I 'll get back to my side of the country now.

Good Morning Railfans!

Finally got shoveled out this morning.  It's still slightly snowing and the yardstick shows 19" here at home.  A few of our foothill cities are reporting in at 4ft!  Should see some melting over the next few days but they say another storm should arrive on Tuesday...

Hamburger and a Diet please and a serious side of fries too...

....Once again, the area seems to reject any snow coming this way.  We do have rain this morning, but it's to get into the low 40's again today, and seems it will stay rain.

No snow here now for some time.  None on the ground.  In fact, our Tulips are up several inches out of the ground.  That's not good, as we all know.  It's too early for that.

Seems the Nebraska mess will be going north of us.  {Thanks Jen}, we really don't need any of it.  As for water table in this area....Snow is not needed to replentish that.  We're getting rain anyway, and that equals almost a 10 to 1 ratio snow vs rain.  Our water table is quite high now as it is.

I don't think this kind of weather can continue all thru our Winter.  February is the snowiest month in this area.  But this certainly is not a normal Winter so far.  If the total snowfall could remain low, perhaps many areas of Indiana that normally floods from too much mosture, might be avoided as Spring returns.  Time will tell.

March can produce snow storms too, but brief in lasting quality.  It can also produce warm temps.  It's a guessing game as to what the remaining season will produce.

Item:  Record crowds were present in downtown Indianapolis last night....Several main streets had to shut down.  Estimates of numbers of people by their local TV news, was "the most ever for such an event".....I heard one figure of 150,000, but for what area I'm not sure.

I know one thing....Lucas Statium will not begin to hold all that care to see this game.  And it is a new, state of the art facility.

Good Saturday morning everyone.  Temps here in Louisville this morning, are in the middle to upper 40s, with very light rain.  Supposed to make a high of around 53 degrees, if I'm remembering what I heard on the news a little bit ago.  And will be raining most of the day, sometimes moderately heavy.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the warmer bar this morning:  Doughnuts, danish, muffins (an assortment of all different flavors, kinds), bacon, eggs, pancakes w/syrup, biscuits, gravy, grits, toast and cinnamon rolls.

Beginning to figure out my new phone.  So far, I'm liking the Pantech Crossover.  Need to find a case, for it though, as the one I have, when I have the phone in it, is not  a snug fit.

Everyone have a good day, take care, and see you all this evening, for our pizza fest.

Good Evening Railfans!

Well, it's been SNOWING! here for about 30+ hours now and will continue through the night.  Would say I have about 12-18" on level snow and might reach 24" by Saturday.  Some cities are reporting nearly 3ft!!!

It hinted at snow today - even showed up on the radar - but it didn't amount to anything.  Looked almost like somebody shook a salt shaker in spots.

We'll see if any of this weather makes its way into the north country.  We can certainly use it.

Busy day today, once I got started.  Replaced two emergency lights at our banquet hall and installed the window and door frames on a log cabin.

Also glazed the windows and doors for the log cabin.  Will probably install them tonight.

Best part is that I can do all the work on the cabin on my kitchen table...

Time for supper.  I'm famished.

It must be a small cabin if you can do all the work on your kitchen table--and hanging the door would be a lot easier than hanging a full sized door.Smile

Where was I in 1959? In a bunch of places. Most of January, I was finishing up my college course, and then I was home through most of the spring, from time to time helping one of our elders do various things such as putting a new shingle roof on a house and painting. I spent about two months of the summer back at the college, painting (and showing some of the boys working on the Building & Ground Crew how you paint the outside edge of gutter on a two-story building--after putting fresh paint on your brush, you straighten up carefully (you are standing on a 2x12 plank that is laid across two window jacks), catch hold of a rafter with one hand, lean out so you can see what you are doing (wouldn't OSHA have ten conniption fits observing such a safe practice), and painting the edge; the boys had painted the bottom of some of the gutter and the rafters and sheathing as far as they had gone, and the B&G superintendent asked me to finish what they had left undone and then paint the rest of the way around the building, with one helper.  The last three and a half months, I was in school at a theological seminary.

Incidentally, while working with the elder, he showed me how to make use of a forty-foot wood extension ladder without any help. I think I astounded some of my co-workers that summer (it was no trouble, once you learned how, especially when it came to putting it together and taking it apart)--and once the college president saw me carrying one of the twenty-foot sections from one place to another--with it standing straight up; he made a comment something to the effect that it took a lot in my middle section to do such a thing. No problem, just keep it balanced, and look out for overhead obstructions.

Cold in the mornings--in the low twenties--warming to the forties in the afternoon. A light snow in the valley yesterday morning which was gone before night. Gusts of wind today, which did not help one's comfort.

Mookie

I was a sophomore in high school and just at the right age to really appreciate what was lost.

We danced to the music, sang to the radio with all 3 and really felt the loss of some very talented people.  All had memorable songs, but Chantilly Lace was a favorite of our group!  And you know, you could actually dance to all that music!  So simple and so good!

As I found out in later years, that really was some of the best music ever. (and YOU could dance to it!)

[although I'm not sure I ever "learned" to dance.]

In my high school and college years what we called "Heavy Metal" then, doesn't hold a candle to today's whatever!

I can't put a finger on exactly what year it was, but that's when music actually died!!

For listening to music, I usually go for the older country, gospel, lots of the 50s, 60s, 70s hits; John Denver, Simon & Garfunkel, Neil Diamond, Gordon Lightfoot , Iron Butterfly  Manhiem Steamroller and quite a few more.

Mookie

Where were you in 1959?

If Memory serves me correctly, I would have been 8 1/2 years old and in the 4th grade at Raceland, Ky., possibly talking to one of my neighbors about things that were going on at C & O's Raceland, Ky Car Shops.(and probably not caring that "Music Had Died".; then)

The day that "Music Died" for me, was Oct. 1997 when John Denver was killed in a plane crash.

Well, my new phone came in this morning; have been working most of the afternoon trying to get used to it, reading the "manual" that came with it, and just piddling around with the phone, entering contacts.  Decided to take a break from it.

Our regular Friday Fish menu is now on the warmer bar.  All the usual types of fish, along with the regular menu of Friday side dishes, and desserts.

Mookie, hope you survive the snow, and that you do not get a whole lot:  just enough to cover the grassy areas.

Everyone have a good evening, and see you all tomorrow.

Bruce - condolences to you.

Q - they think 2-4 overnite for Lincoln and then 6-10 tomorrow all day.  That's why I am really into the "whine".

Don't have to get out until next Thursday, so will sit in front of the puter and ignore all the snowblowers!

We were out yesterday and saw a lot of golfers on a couple of courses.  Only in the 60's, but they were totally oblivious to all but the little white ball.

....Jen, while watching "Joe" and other similar programs this morning....I heard someone say up to 2 ft. of the stuff in Nebraska....!

Don't send that stuff here.....You would spoil the golfers having their time on this golf course...Again today, with shorts on...!

Got two important items taken care of into town today....installed envelopes in the church pews....and renewed our {both Jean and I}, drivers license....and new license plates {stickers}, for our vehicles....Not due until July, but able to do it now in one trip.
