CW..  Sterno are those small cans of gelled fuel that you light and cook/warm things over.

If you go to a buffet restaurant, sometimes you will see a chaffing dish over the lit sterno cans.

Its 63 and cloudy here in Alamo City.  The fog has lifted, but I don't think we'll see any sun today.

Hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday!  Cowboy

Johnny, glad you all are all right.  Is a sterno stove anything like a propane stove?  I have cooked on one of those in the past.

Here is our Sunday Dinner menu for this afternoon/evening:

1.  Beef roast w/potatoes, carrots and onion, green beans, corn & cornbread.

2.  Fried chicken w/mashed taters, white gravy, broccoli w/cheese sauce, or any of the veggies from #1, along with homemade buttermilk biscuits.

We're supposed to make it up to 39 degrees; just wondering if we'll make it.  Also getting off and on drizzle.

Everyone have a good afternoon, take care and see you all later.

Supper last night was a bit different: I heated it on Sterno stoves, and I ate by candlelight and battery-powered lantern light. We had another weather system move in, with rain, sleet, and then snow, in the early afternoon, and our power went out about 1:30. I called the power company, and was told that it was expected that the power here would be restored by 6:30 (the cause of the failure was not then known). I called again, about 7:00, was told that a utility pole had burned, and the power should be back by 11:00; it came back about 1:30 this morning--the burnt pole must have resisted efforts to get it outSmile. We have plenty of blankets, so I did not get cold (actually, the house cooled only to about the low setpoint of the thermostat).

....29 degrees earlier.  Possible rough weather later today, but I believe we're just on the northern edge of it.

Temps will rise today.

Hope the roads are dry / bare out of the addition here.  Of course they are snow covered back in here, but have been plowed.

Church / S S runs next.   Someplace to find Sunday meal later.

We've been home since Wed.  No point going out with no desire to mess around with the slippery conditions if we didn't have to.

Warm temps today / tomorrow...should work on the bit of snow we do have....Not really that much.

Good Sunday morning everyone.  After another night of going down just after 9 p.m., awoke at 2 something, and couldn't go back to sleep.  Getting kind of tired of this.  But, as it was, I was falling asleep in my chair, trying to watch History Detectives on PBS (KET here in Louisville).  And it was a pretty interesting show last night, too!  The most interesting segment was on Leon Theramon (sp?).   That was really good.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Breakfast of bacon, eggs, sausage, pancakes ready on the warmer bar.

Everyone have a good morning, take care going to Church, work, or rail fanning, whatever you'll be doing this morning.

PS Modelcar. Nice picture of the Costa Concord.

Thx IGN

Thanks, narig01......Such a tragedy.  I thought it was a simple view representing the magnitude of the incident.

Just read a short time ago, another body was found on the submerged part of the ship and having a life vest on.  Believe that's 12 known dead now, with 21 still uncounted for.

Item: The media is still digging into what the Capt. did, etc....But however the ship got to the resting place it is now...I believe saved maybe a thousand or more lives. Perhaps the death toll would have bested the Titanic if it would have turned over {and totally sank}, in the deeper waters just very close to it's exposed side.  {Would that be Port side...}.

Based on my experiences on I-95 (especially south of D.C.), I tend to refer to that highway as a NASCAR track, only with no numbers on the cars...

....Winter appears.  Another inch of snow overnight.  But...tomorrow, we're to see temps near 50 degrees, so that will work on some of it, for sure.....and make a mess too.

No wind, and low 20's now.  A big high pressure in the area, so believe we'll see no more from this system.

Had an email {earlier this afternoon}, from a niece {smart phone}, traveling south, on I-95 south of Wilmington, De., heading for D C, and she indicated they had passed thru several accident sites.

Good Saturday morning everyone.  Well, it looks like we dodged the bullet last night:  our temps range from 32 up to 35 degrees, and streets, etc. are dry  this morning.

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate, hot cider and hot water for hot tea are fresh and ready to go.  On the warmer bar this morning:

bacon, sausage, eggs, pancakes, waffles, syrups, jams, jellies, preserves, biscuits, gravy, grits, toast, kiwi, papaya, pears and apples.  A little bit of everything for your Saturday morning brunch.

Murray, thanks for answering my question.  That is kind of what I figured, but it never hurts to ask a question, does it.

Everyone have a good day, keep warm, take care and see you all back here tonight, for our pizza fest.

Bruce....Back in the late 40's early 50's...I used Atlas brand of tires....One reason was that was the tire Standard Oil Co. stations carried, {my family had an Esso Station}.....and they were good tires with an excellent warranty.

Ah yes...  Atlas tires.  My Mom got them from my neighbor's Esso station in Elizabeth, NJ for her '59 and '63 Pontiacs.

......Don't know why it double posted....Tried to delete...No luck.

Murray..........I've checked out several of the commericals.  Does take a fellow back a ways.  Checked oujt the 1954 Corvette one too.  Chevy screwed up in the early life of the Corvette....They created it, and then almost let it die, because of almost no supply of them....and problems, not soon attended to....and the attitude of the Dealers was less than interested in them...{At least, that was my experience}.  Guess I was lucky I finally did end up with a little later one...The '57.  Think they are still one of the classiest of the Corvette bunch....

People around here might want those studded tires in the morning, if what they are not calling for, does hit us in the morning:  freezing rain.  Would those studded tires work on ice, not just the snow?

CW...not too well if its a freezing rain.  They would be more like ice skates.

Murray, that train is headed by CP 2424 (I think, I can't be sure of the final digit) a heavy Pacific. You can see an Express Boxcar behind the tender, for Storage Mail. That commercial must have been shot around Montreal.

Notice the snow tires are all black walls, in an era when Whitewalls were king. Back then, my Dad would have used Penner Tires. A Canadian only brand out of Winnipeg. He sure hated when they went out of business, because the American brands cost more. With the notable exception of Sears, but they also gave must less mileage. About proportionally less than the full priced tires, so you didn't save anything in the end.

You don't want to know the negative opinions the grown-ups of the time around here had about that VW commercial

So far, during the first 3 days (Tues.-Thurs.) of the Barrett-Jackson Auction on Speed TV, I am only seeing about $200,000-300,000 worth of cars a day I would like to buy. I am definitely going to have to win a lottery.

Our temperature has skyrocketed to only -2°F now. We are supposed to get up to freezing tomorrow, but they are calling for snow as well.

Well, I made it out to the grocery and back home before the 'mess' comes in in about an hour or so.  Our temps are above freezing, so I think we'll probably only see a little bit of rain (hopefully).  Even with the temps above freezing, it feels colder out.  Not much of a breeze/wind, so don't know if they're recording a wind chill or not.

Mookie, sorry to hear about your thumb.  I have a place on my left index finger, from poking myself with scissors/nail clippers, trimming my toe nails the other day.

Our Friday Fish Fry is now on the warmer bar, with all the different kinds of fish, regular side dishes and desserts.

Everyone have a good afternoon, what's lift of it, a good evening, take care, and see you all later.

I miss the kinder gentler days of the winter of my youth, when I had the dexterity to do things better.

You put your boots or galoshes on over your shoes...dug out the driveway, got the car started and warmed up and away you went.

And you drove with confidence because you had Firestone "Town & Country" Snow tires.    And as the old commercial slogan went...  "With Firestone Town & Country Snow Tires...You go...or Firestone pays the tow!"
