Produce went well this morning, even with the rain pouring down.  We only had 54 people, but they were all well behaved.  On the Produce truck this morning:  cabbage, onions, potatoes, Romaine lettuce, strawberries and 1/2 size bottles of lemonade.

Walt and I are getting ready to leave in a couple of hours, to go to our neighbor's visitation.  Like I said in an earlier post, don't think we'll be going to the funeral tomorrow.  We'll just stay home, and keep an eye out on her house and property, watching to make sure there are no intruders.  That's what we did last year, when Aunt Sarah passed away.

Everyone have  a good evening and take care.  Anyone leaving to go out of town for the holiday, please be careful and take care, keeping you and yours safe and sound.

This being the season for turkey, we would all do well to take a look at William Shatner's Fryers Club.

I just realized I should get in here and wish our American readers Happy Thanksgiving before it is too late to catch those in the eastern time zones.

We celebrate Thanksgiving in Canada on the second Monday in October, so folks around here are no doubt glad they don't have to travel tonight or tomorrow. There is a weather warning out for 50-60 mph winds with blowing snow for the whole area between Calgary and the US border. We are along the northern edge of the area affected so they are not saying what to expect here. Some lesser level of unpleasantness, no doubt. 46° now.

There was a 14 car derailment Sunday at Mortlach, SK on CP's mainline. It was a loaded grain train from the Soo Line coming up through Canada on its' way to the US west coast. Portal, ND-Moose Jaw, SK-Dunmore, AB-Lethbridge, AB-Eastport ID. Here is a report from The Moose Jaw Times Herald. It is kind of funny, it makes it sound like the train crew has to clean up their own wreck.Big Smile

Have a happy Thanksgiving.

Ahem.  Thanksgiving.  Family will be scattered, so we will go grocery shopping.  That's our day and we don't vary the routine - (if we do, we will forget to go to the store), then ham sandwiches and paper plates.  I love it.

Oh, and did I mention - 65 degrees and sunny for the day?  I think I will go spread my blanket trackside and enjoy.  Maybe take our sandwiches with us!

Good Wednesday morning.  Well, we had a little bit of excitement this morning, just after 5 a.m.:  lights went out!  According to local power company, some wires across the street were sagging, due to the winds (they weren't that strong).  Our power was restored about 25 minutes ago.  So much fun going around resetting all the clocks.  Not!!

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  And breakfast is ready and on the warmer/serving bar.

I will be spending the day in the kitchen, getting most of the side dishes ready for tomorrow, and keeping an eye out next door.

Everyone have a good day, take care, and see you all later.

Peace be with you. 68 and light rain in Carolina, supposed to get to 74 and partly cloudy later. Saturday, the Thunderchickens take on Clemson and are preparing to whomp them good. This is the game that decides a successful season, no matter how the rest of the year went.

The wife is visiting her Sister for thanksgiving, so the girls and I will feast out of a can. Think of me whilst ye chow down on turkey and dressing! Oh well, I can be thankful without a feast, so it is really immaterial!

The girls got to arguing politics at 0400 and I got a bad scratch on my arm when I got between them. Laci will start a fight at anytime over anything, even without provocation.

Everyone have a great day and turkey day too. Stay warm and safe

Rain (some freezing) overnight, followed by snow this AM.  Hopefully it'll all melt later - I've got shopping to do.

Police, and some fire, are busy with minor accidents.  I heard our town highway crews out earlier, but apparently this first taste of winter for some folks came with the usual forgetting to slow down...

Aside from a couple of pieces of ridgecap, I got the steel roof on the garage.  It's so nice not ot have water coming in at places it isn't supposed to...  If the temps do what's forecast, I'll probably be able to finish up after the holiday weekend.

.....Local weather for us right before the holiday begins, seems to be about seasonable.  Dry and overcast, but bright.  44 degrees.

Tomorrow is to be quite a bit warmer and full sunshine.

Such weather makes holiday time so much more pleasant.  Friday is to be real nice too.  Have a few outdoor items we'll take care of then.

"Mittens" to install on outside faucets for the season.  One area of spouting, must have some "whatever" in it as yesterday we noted it was spilling out over it in this small area.  Single story home, so no great deal to handle.

Wish everyone safe traveling out on the typicially busiest highway travel time of the year.  Many years ago we traveled our 400 mi. on this day back to Pennsylvania, but don't do that currently.

Actually left here early one Thanksgiving morning, and arrived {400 mi.} later at my home for Thanksgiving dinner, about 1 pm.  Wouldn't attempt to do that now.  '62 Impala SS did the task that morning.

Weather can be "iffy" back home this time of the year, but on that occasion, we had good traveling weather.  Dry and sunshine.

Turkey this time will be at Ryan's with our family about 10 mi. from here...Anderson.

We don't get a lot of hail of a size that will make that much noise (fortunately).

I'm not sure you'd be able to pick my house out of the cacaphony anyhow, almost all of the houses around me have steel roofs as well.

Of somewhat greater concern is the fact that the nice, shiny surface sheds snow pretty well, usually in the form of an "avalanche," and without warning.  I don't spend a lot of time under the eaves in the winter, but it's a consideration.

Whew, what a long day I've had.  Think I've just about got the side dishes ready for tomorrow.  When Sarah's turkey is just about through roasting, I'll put on the green beans w/shelled beans on, and either make some mashed taters or do creamed/stewed potatoes (where you boil the potatoes, and thicken the liquid w/corn starch).  Then, after everything is ready, I'll pop the crescent rolls into the oven.  Spent from 10:00 a.m. until 5:15 in the kitchen.  Now, I need to head back into the kitchen, and start washing up my dishes/pans/utensils  that I've messed up this afternoon.

For supper tonight:  Grilled cheese sandwiches and vegetable soup w/salad.

For dessert:  homemade pound cake w/sauce, or Dutch apple pie w/ice cream.

Everyone have a good evening and take care.  See you all in the morning.

Good Thursday morning and. . . HAPPY THANKSGIVING to everyone.

Coffee is ready, as are the juices and other morning beverages.  On the warmer/serving bar this morning:  Hot from the oven cinnamon rolls, bagels and bear claws.  If anyone wants bacon ,sausage, eggs, etc., just let me know and I'll fix them right up.  Figured everyone wouldn't want much breakfast this morning, so they can have plenty of room for the Thanksgiving Feast.

Joe, I'm not sure if Walt has said anything, but:  as we were on our way to our neighbor's visitation Tuesday night, had to take a detour, because. . .  someone hot gotten a tractor/trailer stuck under the 15th St. Overpass.  That is over at the P&L (Paducah & Louisville) Rail yard.

Mookie, sounds like you've had a very good Thanksgiving so far.  Being almost delirious?  This'll make you totally delirious:  The Cafe/Diner's Thanksgiving Dinner is now ready and on the warmer/serving bar:

Turkey, dressing (2 kinds:  cornbread and a mix of cornbread & biscuits), green beans, mashed taters, stewed  potatoes, potato salad, watergate salad, broccoli casserole, cranberry sauce and cranberry relish, corn and crescent rolls.

Desserts:  Pumpkin pie, pecan pie, yellow cake w/caramel icing, chocolate cake w/chocolate icing and  strawberry/rhubarb cobbler

Everyone have a terrific evening, don't get too full from all the bountiful food and take care.

Peace be with you, and happy Thanksgiving!

Well, it turned out to be a feast day anyway. The neighbor across from me brought me a huge plate of food with all the trimmings. It was totally unexpected and really appreciated. I really have a lot to be thankful for.

I had to go into administrator mode last night and this contraption wiped the memory clean of all passwords and a lot of other stuff that I still am finding. Don't think I will do that very often.

Everyone have a great Thanksgiving and stay safe and warm.

Good Friday morning everyone.  I hope you all had a very good Thanksgiving!  We sure did.  Nice and quiet, and Sarah and I had our Thanksgiving dinner ready and on the table by 7:00 p.m.  We were totally stuffed, when we finished eating.  Sarah and I both commented that our bellies felt like they were about to explode.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the warmer bar/serving station this morning:  bacon, sausage, eggs, toast, grapefruit, kiwi and papaya, pineapple slices, bagels and bear claws.

So very glad I'm no longer working at KMart:  they opened up at 5 a.m., which would have meant that if I were working first shift, I'd have had to have been there no later than 4:30 this morning.

Everyone have a good morning, take care and see you all later.

Peace be with you. 44 and sunny in Carolina where the Thunderchiickens are getting ready to whomp an alley cat tomorrow!

There was a blurb on Facebook, but no details about a black Friday free for all at a Walmart somewhere on the west coast. It was from one of the local TV stations so there is some validity I guess. Paula, you are indeed blessed to no longer be part of that rat race! I also note on the local law enforcement booking page that shoplifting arrests were up last night. Folks getting their Christmas stuff together.....

Everyone take care and have a great day
