"Dashing through the snow...."Headphones

Ferried some equipment from Thendara to Utica today - including a stretch through 8-10" of lake effect snow.  Made throwing one of our switches a real treat, I can tell you.

Tomorrow we arrange the train and decorate.  Tomorrow night I work the second night of "Polar Express."  I was there tonight as the first trainload boarded.  Lots of exited kids (and some excited parents!).

Time for bed.

Well, our fair weather came to an end this evening. We had several days of sunshine and wind; yesterday I made the second pass over the leaves in the backyard, knowing that it would be cold and windy today, with rain/snow coming this evening. We expect up to three inches of snow in the valley, with more, of course, on the benches and even more up in the mountains. The skiers are happy, but they have to be careful and stay away from unstable snow masses (one man, skiing in more or less back country, has died as the result of an avalanche).

The Gamecocks should have easy pickings tomorrow--but look out for next Saturday!

It's a cold one out tonight. -2°F with a E 7 mph wind giving us a windchill of -15°. But the Relative Humidity is up to 77% so we are really feeling it. Oh, and there is snow falling.

I wasn't out today so I don't have too much to report, and I don't see any local RR news. I did see where CN has signed a deal starting in a couple of years to haul export thermal coal from Hinton, AB out to Price Rupert, BC. It looks like they will be able to move some big trains due to the low grades on their line to the coast.

My compliments the the TRAINS Photo of the Day Editor. The last four images have all been excellent.

Good Saturday morning everyone.  43 degrees here in Louisville this morning.  An hour ago, we were at 44 degrees.  But supposed to get to a high of 63 degrees, but it will be breezy/windy as the day goes along.

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate, hot cider and hot water for hot tea are fresh and ready to go.  On the warmer/serving bar this morning:

Bacon, sausage, pancakes, waffles, scrambled eggs, fresh fruits, bagels, bear claws, grits, cream of wheat, or you can have a bowl of cereal or oatmeal and toast, or biscuits & gravy.

Walt and I watched a very good movie last night:  Bound for Glory, with David Caradine, playing Woody Guthrie.  I really enjoyed watching that movie.  Guess you could say that Woody was the first person to actively campaign for unions, to help the farm workers, who were breaking their backs, trying to make money to feed their families.

Everyone have a very good day, take care, and see you all this evening.

Hi Randy!  Long time - no see.  Glad you stopped in.

A day sitting at home will make you appreciate work even more.  Especially if you watch the tv fare. Sleep

Morning low in our area was 42 degrees.  Overcast, but pretty bright.

Might see low 50s today.  Mostly dry is forecast.  Still have green grass here, non of that white stuff.

Quentin, no white stuff here, either!  And if we did, it sure wouldn't stick, as our temp is in the low to mid 60s, although it is quite cloudy.  Haven't been outside much, as I've been in my kitchen, making up a big batch of biscuit dough, and baking biscuits.  Still need to make some cornbread, so I'll be ready to go in making my homemade dressing/stuffing for Thursday.

Here is our Saturday Night Pizza Fest menu:

1.    Anchovie

2.    Canadian bacon

3.    Cheese

4.    Chicago style

5.    Goetta

6.    Ham & green pepper

7.    Hawaiian

8.    Italian sausage

9.    Pepperoni/mushroom

10.  Supreme

For Dessert tonight, we have:

1.  Peach cobbler w/ice cream

2.  Chocolate cheese cake

Hope everyone has enjoyed their day; take care, and see you all in the morning, probably.

Identical temps as last night. It has stopped snowing and the wind shifted to the south, but the R.H. is up to 84%. Feels even colder now.

No new RR news.

I liked that David Caradine movie about Woody Guthrie. The music is well done whether Caradine sings it or not.

Think I will have a Supreme Pizza tonight.

Good Sunday morning everyone.  It feels nice outside this morning, with a temp of 57 degrees.  We've had a little bit of rain overnight, not a whole lot, just a little bit of light rainfall.  Supposed to get up to about 63 degrees this afternoon, with more rain for the next couple, three days, with mild temps.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the warmer/serving bar this morning:  bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, biscuits & sausage gravy.

Mookie, hope Mr. & Mrs. Mud have a safe trip.  I know they'll have a very good time with you and Driver, and also with their family in the Cincinnati area.

Bruce, I believe that David did sing some of the songs, and did actually hear Woody's voice on some of the songs.  Almost made me want to find the video of Alice's Restaurant and watch it.  Maybe I'll open the door to our entertainment center, and find the tape, and get Walt to put it into the VCR.

Everyone have a very good morning, take care going to Church, work, or traveling to spend the Thanksgiving holiday with family.  See you all this afternoon.

I for one will not be on the road this week except to take one of the girls to the vet on Tuesday. The wife, tho, is going ro stay the week with her sister. I hardly drive anymore, for various reasons, and just enjoy meself at home putering around or messing with the wireless.

Everyone have a great day and stay safe

CW - all is well in the chicken family.  Time was too short as usual, but got some questions answered.  Between traveling and me, Sir Chicken should have slept really well last nite!

It was cold and cloudy yesterday.  A little windy in the dark last nite which require my winter coat.  And mittens.  Blame it on the Dakotas.  And maybe Canada, eh?

Off to wade thru the Sunday ads and find the funnies for breakfast.

Unusual weather....it's warmer still this morning.  57 as I first checked.  Slight wind....Dry.  Indicating we will get into the upper 60's today.

Checked the "heating degree days" with same period last year, and it's very close, even close to "normal".  So in some way, I suppose it's not too strange.

Church is next in a few hours, than Sunday lunch someplace.

Then....See if we can watch the finale Nascar race of the year to determine the championship.  Just 3 points separates, the two front runners...The only two that can take the trophy.  Others are beyond what they could increase even with a win today.

This could be interesting.

MC - you did manage to distract Madam LaMook during Nebraska's visit to the "Big House" in Ann Arbor.  The Wolverines managed to husk some corn there.

As a one-time Great Lake state resident, of course, I was rooting for Michigan while seeing snippets of the game during lunch (between working on getting trains ready for holiday trips).

Gotta head back to the trains soon - one of the Polar Express cars had a light problem (too many strings strung together), so I've got to reconfigure that.

At least the weather is decent today.

Still getting light rain here in Louisville.  Mookie, glad to know the chickens made it to your house safely.  Hopefully, they'll make it the rest of the way safely, as well.

Sunday Dinner menu:

1.  Burgers and cheeseburgers w/fries and garden salad

2.  Beef Pasta w/garden salad, your choice of brussel sprouts or peas & corn

Dessert:

1.  Chocolate cake w/white icing

2.  Apple cake w/cream cheese frosting

Hope everyone can stay dry this afternoon. Think I'm staying inside, and just relaxing.  Should make a trip to the library and pick up a couple of reserved books that are in, but think I'll just get out in the morning and make that trip.  You all take care, have a good afternoon, and enjoy whatever activities you are partaking this afternoon.

Off to wade thru the Sunday ads and find the funnies for breakfast.

That's an odd diet; I prefer shredded wheat (the kind without sugar) and a few slices of peaches, with semi-skimmed (2%) milk.Smile

We did get about two inches of snow Friday night; I let the sun clear it off my driveway Saturday. We were promised a low of about 22 this morning; it was more like 32 when we left for church.

Yes, Tom, I thought those cadets from Charleston were no real match for the Thunderchickens. Did you watch the Vanderbilt-Tennessee game, with its surprise ending?

I'll have to work on a picture of the interior of our Polar train cars.

In the meantime, here's a picture of the locomotive we decorated for this coming weekend's Christmas and Santa Trains (same trainset, different trips):

Happened to meet a FEMA disaster worker this weekend.  She's been working a lot of disasters (she was in Joplin), and is currently (still) working the flooding that occured in NYS as a result of Irene and the subsequent storm.  We invited her to join us on the Polar Express last night, so she could see what we do (and get out of her hotel room for a while).  She very much enjoyed the trip and seeing how we pull it off.

And speaking of PE - we had about the biggest crowd last night that I've dealt with since I started running - hardly an empty seat on the train!  Lots of happy kids and their parents.

I'm home now, and I'm beat.  Time for bed.

Ohhh, Ahhhh, what a beautiful job on the engine, Larry!  I know you came home dog tired last night.  And good Monday morning to everyone.  We're starting out with a temp of 57 degrees, with patchy fog and some leftover rain.  Still  have more rain showers/storms for later in the day.  Possibly some severe weather tomorrow.

Coffee, OJ and other juices and morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Breakfast is ready also and on the warmer/serving bar.

We watched another movie last night:  the newer version of The Stepford Wives with Nicole Kidman and Broderick , dang it, can't remember his last name:  the one who played Ferris Beuler.  Anyway, prefer this version over the original.  Didn't care too much for that one, but this one was pretty good, and had me chuckling a few times.

Hope you all have a good morning, and take care whatever you'll be doing this morning, and see you all later.

Joe, thank you for refreshing my memory on his name!  Also, very sad to hear about Matt's schoolmate.  Please give him my sympathy.  It's always sad to lose someone, and even more so around holidays.  Our next door neighbor passed away Friday.  Her visitation is tomorrow evening, and funeral Wednesday morning.  We are going to the visitation, but I doubt we'll be able to make the funeral.

Tonight's menu:

1.  Leftovers from Sunday Dinner

2.  Tomato soup w/grilled cheese sandwiches and garden salad

We currently have 57 degrees and cloudy skies.  Rain seems to be out for now, at least until the wee hours of the morning.  Then, we may see some heavy downpours around 9 a.m. tomorrow, before the rain clears out around mid day Wednesday.  We did have a little bit of fog here in the city this morning.   Everyone have a good evening and take care.

UmbrellaIt's raining, it's pouring, the old man is snoring; went to bed, bumped his head, couldn't get up in the morning.Umbrella  Good Tuesday morning everyone.  54 degrees and yes, it is raining, raining, raining this morning.  We may have some severe weather and storms later on this afternoon, to deal with, too.

Coffee and juices are freshly made and ready to go.  Along with our other morning beverages, including hot water for hot tea.  Breakfast of toast, oatmeal, bacon, sausage and eggs are ready and on the warmer/serving bar.

OK, finally heard back from my doctor last night.  The word is, I have had a stroke, although it was a mini stroke (not a major stroke, like the optomertist (sp?) said).  Dr. told me to keep taking my Plavix and my bp medicine, keep my bp down.  He wanted me to go on aspirin, and I had to remind him, that I can't take aspirin  due to being allergic to it.  So, I guess this little Indian cant get upset and go on the warpath anymore.  Smile, Wink & Grin

Anyhoo, everyone have  a good morning, stay dry, and I'll see you all later, after I get through with Tuesday Produce.
