Another day that started out cool--andthe temperature now is in the mid seventies, We expect lows in the fifties, and the highs will gradually move into the eighties.

As to the girl who was killed by a train yesterday, some clarification was in the morning paper. Unlike most of the TRAX crossings (except in downtown Salt Lake City, where there are no crossing gates), which have both lanes blocked on both sides of the track, this one has only one gate on each side, which blocks traffic in the direction of the traffic. The girl (fifteen years old) was crossing on the other side of the street, against the current of vehicular traffic, so she did not have to walk around a gate. To matters more difficult for pedestrians, there is a sound wall by the track, which blocked her view of the oncoming train. And, the crossing is in a "quiet zone," so the operator is not supposed to sound the horn as the train approaches the crossing.  Altogether, it was a sad event.

Good Afternoon.

It is coming up on 3 PM and we have 70° out. It is a very nice day here, light wind with only a few clouds in the sky.

I don't see anything about the high water situation south of us.

I went out and bought the movie "Unstoppable" with Denzel Washington and Chris Pine. About the runaway train. I've watched it twice now. It is great fun. There is enough real stuff in it to make the imaginary parts believable, and this makes the movie great. A great get away from it all movie.

I think I am going to head out for a walk around the neighbourhood. Everyone have a good day.

Hmm, looks like we have more lurkers today, as only Quentin has been in.  Sad  Since there aren't that many who have been in, I'll forgo starting the Friday Fish Fry until later on this afternoon, for supper-dinnertime.

At 1:12 p.m., EDT, we have a temp of 90 degrees, should rise about 3 degrees more for our high for today.

....Train horn blowing in the distance...One mi. north of us on the NS Frankfort line.  Windows open, and nice breeze coming in. Mid 70's now.

Potential weather today though...

Sounds travel well this morning.  At 11 am, warning horn {tornado}, blew as it always does each Friday morning at that time.  I could even determine the different sound as it rotated.  It's located over at the Club House for this golf course.  Roughly 1/2 mi. distant.

Humidity seems acceptable today, along with slight breeze.

Good Friday morning everyone.  Current temp here in Louisville is about 78 degrees, with fair skies, although it is a bit hazy out.  Going for a high today in the low 90s again.  Went outside last evening and watered the flowers/plants.  The garden bed is a flower bed this year, along with the other two flower beds.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the serving station this morning:  turkey bacon, sausage, eggs, toast and as a special treat:  caramel rolls.

Everyone have a good morning, keep safe, stay cool and take care.  See you all later.

WOW, BBQ Ribs with Baked Potato, and Cheesecake for dessert, sounds great!

We are still bumping along with no 70° plus days yet. They are calling for one tomorrow but I have grown very skeptical of those claims. It is still 64° now, and sunny. It wouldn't be a bad day to have supper outside.

There are reports of one line closure due to high water. It is on the line south of Lethbridge down to the Coutts, AB/Sweetgrass, MT border crossing. This line then continues down to Shelby, MT to join the BNSF northern transcontinental line.

The above explanation demonstrates the importance of the TRAINS Forums. I had always thought the line south of Sweetgrass joined the BNSF at Great Falls, MT. I was participating on a thread about transporting coal to the west coast when it became obvious to me I had to consult a map and revise my knowledge on the subject of the Sweetgrass Sub. It is good to learn something new each day.

For those following on a map the outage is at McNab, the first station north of Warner, AB, the nearest location with an actual population. According to Wikipedia in 2007 there were 383 people there.

Many years ago (almost 50) the wife of the Agent there was one of my Mom's best friends from High School and Nursing School, and the Agent was the person who introduced my parents to each other, while Dad was relieving once as Operator up at Lake Louise, AB

Another cool day--without half-way promised rain out here. Here and there a river or such has broken through the embankment constructed to hold it in, and, night before last, some idiot broke into the enclosure around the switch system for a canal floodgate and opened the floodgate; At least one basement received several feet of water.

All the watercourses are running fast and furiously with cold water, and at least three children have died after falling into one or another. Two died outright, and a third one was pulled out and taken to a hospital, but he was beyond help.

To add to the sad news, yesterday afternoon a girl walked around a crossing gate protecting street and sidewalk traffic from the light rail trains after one train cleared the crossing--and was fatally hit by a train going in the opposite direction. A friend who was with her was able to escape.

We are doing well.

By the way, how do you all like the screened in patio?  Thought it would help us all out, with being able to come outside and eat, or just to enjoy watching the trains come by.

Good morning. 74 and thunder in Carolina at present. The expected high today is 95.

Lessee. It would be nice to have a large rack of baby back ribs with honey barbecue sauce, a loaded baked potato, salad and a large fudge cake or cheesecake for dessert. BTW, thanks for breakfast.

Everyone take care and stay cool.

Tom, your request is answered:  Walt (who said since today is a little bit cooler, he could stand to be out on the patio manning the grill) has grilled the large rack of baby back ribs w/honey barbecue sauce, and I've baked potatoes, made fresh salad and baked a whole sheet cake  pan of fudge cake.  We also have in the way of cheesecake:  strawberry, cherry, chocolate and plain cheesecake for desserts.

....The warm "Summer" weather continues, but not as hot as yesterday at this same time.  81 now.  Possible weather action in our area sometime today.

Radar showed a large elongated stream of weather passing across northern Indiana this morning.  That one, a bit far north to get us.

My first peek at the instrument indicated 75, and that's a bit lower than yesterday.    The peek I saw here yesterday {afternoon}, was 97.3.

Good Thursday morning everyone.  Partly cloudy skies right now, with a temp range of 76 to 79 here in Louisville this morning, going for a high of 93.  We may see some rain Saturday, according to the weather forecast this morning.  We actually need rain, even after all that rain we got 2 and 3 weeks ago.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the serving station this morning:  bagels, bear claws, English muffins, bacon, sausage, eggs.  And yes, the chocolate cake is ready to eat!!

Everyone have a very good morning, keep safe and keep as cool as possible!  Anyone have any ideas for lunch and supper/dinner for later on?  Please help me with some suggestions.

Mookie, Walt says, "Who, Whom, or Whatever?!"  He's surprised he gets the first two letters correct, and doesn't say "Owl".

Chocolate cake just about ready to be taken out of the oven:  Walt says we moved the oven outside!  It's not connected to natural gas, but connected to "natural heat".

For supper tonight, since it is so hot (or warm) depending on where you are:

1.  Garden salad

2.  Caesar salad

Dessert:  cantaloupe, that I just cut up a little bit earlier.

The chocolate cake will be iced after a bit, when it has had time to cool, and will be ready by morning!

We didn't make it to 96 degrees today:  our high was "only 94" for today, but the heat index made it feel like 100 outside.  They (meterologists) say we may see some rain tomorrow, at the least hear sounds of thunder.

Everyone have a good evening, take care, keep cool and see you all in the morning.

Mutt - I read all of them and passed them on to my co-workers.  Sorry.  And still no chocolate cake involved!

Now when I read books, I pass them on to our Saturday breakfast restaurant crew.  There is quite a group of them and they snap those books up like they are gold.  In return, I get really good scrambled hard eggs!  Dinner

I was referring to our grammer - who, whom, and why I can never keep them straight.

So Noted Ms Mookie; however, if you have any "Cat Who" books to exchange for the "Cat Who" books we have, maybe we can workout a deal.

Mookie
Tree - who did you upset?  That's an angry looking storm and one right behind it!

It's unusual for us to get weather from that direction, and when we do, we usually get pounded since the lake doesn't moderate it.

So far my immediate area has just gotten rain, light winds, and a lot of thunder.  A couple of FDs to the north of us are on their third or fourth call, and the Canadian FDs I'm hearing on the scanner are pretty busy, too.

A fellow on a Sailfish got caught on the water to the south of us.  They're working on getting him out now.  At least he had his life jacket on (I always d when I sail).

Edit - the main part of the storm is gone, but I'm still getting hits on the UPS (it clicks if the power sags) and hearing plenty of thunder.

Mutt - I just googled her the other day to see if she was still around.  How ironic.  I will really miss those books - they didn't take much gray matter, but were always entertaining.

Must read slower or hunt for new books.  Just about depleted my supply.  Bought a book on Starkweather but haven't had the ambition to tackle it yet.  (Old people will remember him)  He killed a family just a couple of blocks from my jr. hi while I was in school.  Little close to home for comfort.

Q - it has been in the high 90's past few days, but only in the 80's today.  Rain and cool tomorrow, so will pass it on.  What with AZ on fire and Denver coughing, too bad we can't back it up and send it west.

Tree - who did you upset?  That's an angry looking storm and one right behind it!

Eastern edge of NE and western edge of NE is disappearing under water.  Even big, old Omaha is hyperventilating.

Let the hurricanes begin.  Are we near 2012 yet?

Hoo, boy, looks like we might get rocked.  Pretty angry looking line of weather headed our way, and it's coming out of Ontario, which means the lake won't knock it down a notch.

Could be interesting.

Just a question of when it'll get here.

Well, CW's taking the afternoon off, (and a nap as well) after going to the store to replenish both the Cafe's larder and the one at home; so she put a whole bunch of "Cold Cuts" out for everybody to enjoy on another HOT Summer Day, (and yes, it's not Summer Yet!!)(officially)

Although 90 degrees at this typing and a heat index of about 100 degrees makes me think so.

Mookie, I just found out this morning that one of both of our favorite authers died over this past weekend; Lillian Jackson Braun, author of the "Cat Who" series. I know you like her works as much as CW & I do.

Tom, you reminded me of one car that I had. When I ordered it, I thought I could get by without an air conditioner (I ordered it in November or December), but by the time summer came, I realized that it would be wonderful to have dry cold air blowing into the car. So, the dealer installed an afterthought. Perhaps I should have asked for one with more cooling capacity, because from time to time I would have to turn the compressor off and let air blow through the outlet to melt the ice that had formed and was blocking the air. My air conditioner lost its cool.Smile

I's cooler here today than it was yesterday, and we may have rain tomorrow.

....If nothing unusual occurs today....we will break our temp reading for this date here in Muncie.  That being 91.   Yesterday, I recorded here at home, 96.3....Our instrument seems to parallel along with official sources quite well, so I believe it reflects the actual temp very close.

Early this morning we had 78 degrees at my first peek.  That's warmer than yesterday's start.  I'm looking for it to touch 97 today.  Generally, we gain in the area of 20 degrees during the course of the day.

Again, bright sunshine is what we have again.  Humidity with it too.

Good Wednesday morning everyone.  Hope you all had a very good evening.  Currently, here in Louisville, it is 75 degrees, with partly cloudy skies.  Going for a high of 96 today.  Think I'm going to be staying indoors as much as possible today.

Coffee, juices, and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Have plenty of  Gatorade on tap for anyone who wants some, including mudchicken, along with iced tea, soft drinks (right now, I'm on a Dr. Pepper kick.  Having one or two of them a day.)

On the serving station this morning:  bagels, bear claws, turkey bacon, pork sausage, scrambled eggs, watermelon, cantaloupe, kiwi and papaya.

Everyone please remember to keep plenty of water or other good liquids handy, so you can stay hydrated, especially if you're going to be outside!  You all take care, have a good morning, and see you all later.

Happy B-Day Mud Chicken!!!!!!

I would say if you came to the Louisville area to celebrate, that we wouldn't "roast" you in any harmful way.......but with the current weather forecast and heat index readings, I think 95 degrees with a heat index of around 100 would roast most everybody!

Anyway, hope it's a Great One For You!!
