Happy birthday, Joe Happy B-Day. May you have many more, with joy each time! May I have some of your chocolate cake?

We are supposed to get into the eighties along the Wasatch Front today--and the flood watchers are predicting the times when various creeks and rivers will overflow their banks.

Even so, it is not expected that there will be the damage and inconvenience (not enough bridges could be built to cross the various streets that had become rivers) caused by the heavy runoff in the spring of '83.

I finished getting my swamp cooler ready to run today; I hope my neighbors who have not even taken the covers off theirs will not suffer from heat before they get theirs ready.

Joe, that is a good menu for a day like today:  waiting for the rain to come in, in the next hour or so.

Hamburgers are coming off the grill, and we also have grilled corn on the cob to go with the burgers; there is also:  freshly made garden salad, sliced onion and tomatoes to go on the burgers, along with American or cheddar cheese (my choice would be the sharp cheddar:  very tasty!): and the different cheddar cheeses are marked, so you know what you're getting.

There is also two different birthday cakes:

1.  Chocolate cake w/chocolate icing

2.  Yellow cake w/chocolate icing

And plenty of ice cream to go on top of the cake, or on the side in a bowl.

....Again, warm & humid.   Missed "weather" last evening as it passed very close to us.  Perhaps most passed northeast.

Mostly cloudy, but the sun peeks thru some this morning.

Happy Birthday, Joe!

Looks like we're getting what you got yesterday, but earlier in the day, so it won't have the punch.

Looking like a wet weekend, according to the weatherguessers.  Great - I'm on the railroad all weekend (at least Sunday I've got a reserved seat in the cab...).

Good Wednesday morning everyone and. . .

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JOE!!!! Happy B-Day Happy B-Day Happy B-Day Happy B-Day

I'm sorry I forgot to email you, to find out your meal selections for today.  But your can still give me your list, if you are so inclined, and I will work on it for lunch and supper.  I wish you all the best for today, Joe, and hope you have a terrific and Happy Birthday!

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the warmer/serving station this morning:  Blueberry muffins, blueberry pancakes w/syrup, bacon, sausage scrambled eggs and toast, cantaloupe, watermelon, and various other fresh fruits.

This morning we have a current temp of 69 degrees with at least partly cloudy skies.  Everything quiet this morning, no thunder, no lightning, no high winds (which should be in here sometime around 1, 2 p.m. this afternoon).  Have already put in fresh rechargeable batteries in the weather radio, since the display on the radio was blank this morning.

Everyone have a very good morning, take care and see you after a bit.

Hello. 61° right now, and we made it to a high of 72° today. No news is good news when it comes to weather around here today.

But we are still suffering rather unusual effects as an aftermath of the very late thaw we had this spring. There was a very deep frost in the ground this year and that coupled with the spring runoff has produced an extremely high water table. MC and PDNjr have gone on at length on other threads about how that adversely affects the subgrade of an ROW, whether it is rail or road. The county around three sides of Calgary has been faced with an unusual situation. The subgrade under many of their roads has become so soft they do not want to allow traffic on them in case it causes permanent damage. But they are desperately doing what they can to allow farmers to move their tractors and machinery to their fields so they can begin their spring work.

The acreages in some areas around the city have underground electrical services. There seem to be grey boxes at various points to allow access to switches and such. They had a picture of one of these boxes with water halfway up its' side, and the box was askew due to the ground under it being so soft. I was surprised to see that, I didn't think those boxes were that heavy or that the ground could be that soft.

The CPR hasn't been affected by the problem in this area yet, but as you folks no doubt saw on the news, things are still very bad in northern North Dakota and southeastern Saskatchewan.

Looks like we have two more nice days ahead of us here.

Bruce

Good afternoon to all.  Well, no produce truck this morning:  finally heard from Dare to Care at 9:45 that the truck would not be coming today.  And that was when the Bread/Pastry truck was preparing to back into the driveway.  So I was back home just before 10 a.m., and promptly fell asleep.

At 2:13, we are getting rain.  Hear a little bit of thunder, but haven't seen any lightning to speak of.  Hope there isn't any lightning, as I'm sitting here at the computer, watching kids in a pool across the way on the next street over from us, looking west.

Our Tuesday Mexican Fiesta is now on the warmer/serving station, with all the regular items:  tacos, burritos, Spanish rice, etc.

Everyone enjoy, have a good afternoon, and take care.

Sure is an extended difference of weather being reported here this morning.  Ours, well it will be hot and muggy.  First look earlier I noted 71 degrees, so that {in general}, means we'll get to the low 90's today.

Stormy weather here for today is "possible"....

The soybeans and corn are growing like mad now.....It appears quite different from one day to the next.  Warm & humid....I suppose really makes greens grow....Including my {nice}, lawn.  Mowing today, if I can fit it in without rain and when it's cooler this evening.

Must help an elderly neighbor today correct a problem with one of his utilities co's.  Hopefully we can succeed.   {Cable co.}.....We've been trying to get it accomplished now for about 5 days.

Believe at 5 pm today we can look to see what the word is on the situation over in Greece....Finances.  Hopefully the Europeans can devise a plan to prevent them from going into default.

Then the chairman of the Fed. Res. makes a major speech tomorrow on finance matters..........and Pres. Obama to make a major speech on our situation in these "wars".....I'm certainly hoping for good results from all these items....Much of the world is so closely tied together now and bad results there effects us too....Let's hope for the best.

Bruce - we had more Nebraska tornados last nite - pretty good sized ones, too.  About 40 miles west of here.  But the one predictible thing besides not being able to predict the weather, the College World Series was called due to high winds and then torrential rains last nite.  Happens every year.

Rain still here today and only in the 70's the rest of the week.  Must be a cool front from your neighborhood.

Peace be with you. 73 and clear in Carolina, with an expected high approaching 100. It made it to 97 yesterday. Man alive, we need the rain badly. A friend who works for the state forestry dept just got back from a 5 day wildfire in Horry (pronouced oree) county, so it's looking bad for such stuff.

Paula, thanks for breakfast.

Everyone have a great day and stay safe and cool.

Good Tuesday morning everyone.  Very warm and muggy outside, with a temp in the mid 70s.  High today is supposed to be about 91 or so degrees, with rain/storms/some severe weather coming in later this afternoon/evening, through tomorrow.  And at 1:16 p.m. EDT is the official start of summer

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the warmer/serving station this morning:  bacon, sausage, eggs, toast.

Everyone take care, keep as cool as possible, and I'll see you all this afternoon, after Tuesday Produce.

Deggesty

We have gone through spring with hardly any real spring weather. The flood watchers are glad that the weather has remained cool; the farmers have had trouble plowing because it's too wet to plow

That accurately describes the situation here as well. We have had only 3 separate days of plus 70° weather since May 23. There was a story on the news last week saying that just the snow on the mountains that is visible to the west of Calgary is greater than the total annual rainfall for Calgary. And it has hardly started to melt at all.

This could lead to very bad avalanche condition next winter. When there is snowpack carried over from one winter to the next it creates a very unstable base for the new snow. My Dad used to tell of very bad years on the railway when that condition would occur.

As to the situation facing farmers on the prairies, there was another story last week saying that about 20% of Manitoba's crops remain unseeded, and almost as large a number in Saskatchewan. And farmers are now becoming afraid that it is too late to plant and get the crops off before freeze up.

In RR news there has been a washout at Roche Percee, SK on the line between Moose Jaw, SK and the Twin Cities on the "Soo Line". This is 13.1 mi. N of the border at North Portal, ND. It is looking like it could take over a week to get the line reopened. Torrential rains fell on a already high Souris River. This is the same river that is causing trouble down at Minot, ND.

Oh, and that front that caused the tornado in Nebraska on Monday extends all the way up to a point due east of Edmonton, AB on the AB/SK border. That is a big front.

Definitely living in interesting times.

We have gone through spring with hardly any real spring weather. The flood watchers are glad that the weather has remained cool; the farmers have had trouble plowing because it's too wet to plow--may they not suffer greatly because they have not yet been able to get their crops into the ground. Some of the higher altitudes received another two feet or so of snow yesterday; it rained all morning down in the valley.

I went up on the roof this afternoon, and got the outer part of the swamp cooler ready--cover off, water line connected and pan filled, new filters installed, and made sure that the water will be pumped properly over them. The first warm day (we have a promise of ninety degrees Wednesday) I will open the vent on the inside and start blowing cool, water vapor laden air into the house.

Stay comfortable.

Good afternoon.

We are sitting under a Thunderstorm Watch at 63°.

I haven't been around much lately as my schedule has become a bit different. It seems now, the best time for me to post would be between 11 PM and midnight while the 11:00 news is on, but that would be between 1 and 2 AM back east, closer to when CW is getting up and getting breakfast ready. It makes it hard to continue any ongoing conversations, when so many folks would have to wait for the following day to hear my replies.

I have been getting on here on Saturday for Pizza Night fairly regularly, but this past weekend I had some sort of bug and I wasn't feeling well. I'm still not feeling great now which is why I am around to post here. Hopefully I will be out and about tomorrow.

Mookie, enjoyed our time out on the patio this morning with our coffee!  Thanks for keeping me company!

I'm doing something a little different today for our noon and supper meals.  Made some large pot pies:  a couple of beef pot pies, a chicken pot pie and a turkey pot pie.  Hope you all enjoy them.

Have a current temp of 84 degrees, with partly cloudy skies.  The sun was shining a little bit earlier, but has now gone in behind the clouds.  But it is quite humid and muggy outside.

Everyone have a good afternoon, and see you all later.

....About 71 degrees earlier when I first checked.  Now a line of weather {at an angle}, is passing across Indiana.  It's on us now, but so far really nothing severe....Do have some thunder and lightning.  Quite dark now....Have the lights on here in the office / comuter room.

Some rain and hi humidity continues.  Believe tomorrow, the low 90's are being forecast.

So far, we've had enough rain to make things grow.  Corn and soybeans coming up quickly and of course the lawn is flourishing.

Good Monday morning everyone.  We have 70 degrees this morning, and apparently had some rain and thunder around 2 a.m. this morning.  Never heard a thing after I went to bed. High today is supposed to be anywhere from 89 to low 90s.

I hope all you Dads had  great Father's Day yesterday.

Coffee, oj, oj/tangerine, apple, grape, orange/mango juices are freshly made and ready to go.  On the warmer/serving station this morning:  turkey bacon, turkey and pork sausage, scrambled eggs, cantaloupe, watermelon, kiwi, papaya and sliced mango, and toast.

Mookie, how does sitting out in the garden this morning, in our rocking chairs sound?  I'll be out there with morning coffee, if you're interested.

Everyone have a very good morning, and see you all later.

Quentin, warm and muggy here, too.  Not sure what our exact temp is right now.  Been in kitchen cooking and baking all afternoon.  Here is your all's Happy Father's Day menu:

After the rain cleared out, we got the grills going, so here is the menu:

Grilled steaks, pork chops, beef brisket, pork tenderloins, chicken, "grilled" baked taters, "grilled corn on the cob, freshly made garden salad, baked beans, broccoli w/butter sauce, green beans, potato salad, macaroni & cheese.

For Dessert:  fresh from the oven sugar cookies w/whatever flavor ice cream you want; chocolate cake and peach cobbler.

Hope all you Dads have had a terrific Father's Day.

Warm and muggy this morning.  Possible "weather" sometime here today.  Next on the agenda:  Church.  After lunch time, will be our meet with family / friends to have our Sunday meal at Olive Garden.  This is a good one here in Muncie, so we visit it quite often.

Must catch at least some of the Nascar Sprint action this afternoon....Hopefully, at least the last section of it.  Michigan is always a pretty good race, as the track is wide and drivers don't have to fight the track so much as well as the competition.  Hope the weather holds.

Good Sunday morning and HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to all you guys!! Hope you all have a great Father's Day.

Joe, thank you for getting breakfast this morning.  Dang it, you managed to beat me in here this morning:  I was trying to get in here first.

We are under a tornado watch until 11:00 a.m. EDT, and just heard on the weather radio that some counties in Southern Indiana are under a tornado warning.    Do have some thunderstorms headed our way, but not here yet. Right now, just getting some very light rain.

Everyone take care going to Church, work, or morning railfanning.  See you all later.
