Nice sunny morning here in the wilds of northern New York - and a balmy 33 when I went after the mail.

Been busy here, too.  After an FD work detail last night I donned my conductor's garb to represent the railroad at the PBS merchandise auction.  Various businesses underwrite portions of the auction, and last night was the RR's turn.  Did several turns in front of the camera (usually I'm behind it) and handed out a lot of our "Trains Are Good" pins.

Back to the auction again tonight (behind the camera) and then this weekend is our annual rules class - both Saturday and Sunday, as I need to take the air brake class as well.

Big Smile CW; it is always nice to "see" youback or otherwise.  Here on the web , getting here is slow as molasses in January or non existant. The " headshed" doesn't seem to have a fix or care.   ~~~ Now there seems to be a problem for the air show and the fireworks .   Reckon  money or the lack of won't cure a lot .

Keep smiling, it makes folks wonder what yer up to.

....Bright overcast, but dry and a bit on the cool side....but probably not too far below normal, for this date.

Everything growing nicely.  Blossom's out on many trees now.  Of course, grass mowing now, is becoming routine, every few days.

Don't mind that.  Like to be out in this beautiful time of the season....Everything nice and fresh and getting more green ea. day.

A good weekend wish for our posters.

Fifty-nine degrees here at 3:28 p.m. with cloudy skies.  Had some light rain about a couple of hours ago.  Heavier stuff is to be in between 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. tonight, into tomorrow morning.  A couple of more parks are now closed, especially for the "thunder goers" tomorrow.  They won't have their usual places to set up to watch the air show and fireworks this year.  (They can stay home and watch it on TV like we do every year.  Much, much safer!!)

Our Friday Fish Fry is now on the serving station. Here's the menu:

Fish:  Bass, catfish, cod, haddock, halibut, flounder, talapia, crab meat, shrimp, breaded fried oysters.

Side Dishes:  Baked beans, corn on the cob, slaw, hush puppies, fries, fried mushrooms, macaroni & cheese

Desserts:  Chocolate cake w/white icing, yellow cake w/chocolate icing, yellow cake w/caramel icing, pecan pie; and apple, blueberry and cherry cobblers

Hope everyone enjoys your meal, your afternoon, evening, and you all take care and keep safe.

NOTE:  Received a message  on facebook from Tom (grandpaw petibone).  He just got home from being in the hospital the past 34 days.  Hope he continues to improve and will be back with us here soon.

.....I note rail cam, Netherlands has made some changes.  I haven't been on the site for a week or so.  Don't know when the changes were applied.  Believe they have removed access to some of the "other" cams in the area.  I never could get them to settle down to watch them with any accuracy.  Cams 1 & 2 are active, plus...videos from the near crossing.

Good evening everyone. I thought I would drop by for a late supper, and it turned out to be later than I expected. I am again getting server timeouts trying to get onto the TRAINS site.

I was just going to comment about an interesting phenomena outside our building today. It got up to freezing today, but with the Sun riding higher in the sky it warmed up our concrete sidewalk even more. So the snow melted right off of it, but there is so much snow still on the lawn you have this very sharp delineation between grass at the edge of the sidewalk and surprisingly deep snow on the rest of the lawn. Earlier in the spring you would have a much more gradual melt. You don't see this every year.

There are no new flood reports in my area and I see CP has the mainline reopened over at Brandon, MB.

I just got in without too much difficulty to report on some amazing weather info from the 11:00 news.

We have just completed our fifth continuous month of measurable snow cover. Not a record, but not something that happens often either. So far in April we have had 21½" of snow. The record is 26.9", set in 2008, and there is still 7" more forecast for this weekend.

This has created wildlife problems. Birds that remain here over the winter have almost exhausted the exposed food supplies and now there are migratory birds arriving after they left their wintering locations. This has prompted local birders to organize a bird food drive by spreading seeds around.

And there are lakes with fish that normally stay frozen over each winter, and there is enough oxygen in the water for them to survive. But fish and wildlife officials now fear that the lakes are going to be frozen for so long they will find mass fish kills when the ice thaws.

I have heard of the bird food drives before, but this fish problem seems new to me. I will see everyone tomorrow.

Good Saturday morning everyone.  Joe, thanks for taking care of breakfast this morning.  Woke up at 6:15, and Sarah had already left for work.  Mutt is still sleeping.  It took me about 20 minutes to get a browser to open this morning:  otherwise, Joe and I would have been in fixing breakfast at the same time.

We have a current temp of 56 degrees at 7:46 a.m., with light rain (although looking out the front door, we aren't getting anything right now).  The guessers are calling for light rain off and on throughout most of the day.  But it is supposed to be out of here, when the air show starts around 3, 4 p.m.  Temp will down in the low to mid 40s when the fireworks start of 9:30.  They are telling everyone going "down to the river" to bundle up very warmly.

Guess that's about all the news I have this morning.  Everyone have a very good day, keep safe, take care and I'll see you all later on.

Good afternoon. It seems the weatherman may have been over excited when he made his predictions last night. There is light snow falling, but in the city at least, it is melting on the still warmer asphalt and concrete. There are pictures on the local news sites of cars in the ditch, out in the country, only now instead of being stuck in snow they are up to their window lines in water that has drained off the highways.

It is 27°F, with a windchill of 19°, and light snow right now. They are calling for four inches in the next 24-36 hours so we shall see what comes of that. No new local RR news, flood related or otherwise. Everyone have a good evening.

At 6:15, we have a temp of 45, 46 degrees, but with the wind chill, feels like 39 degrees outside.  They have halted the air show, at least for awhile, because the ceiling is too low for some of the planes that are due up next.  But they say the fireworks at 9:30 will be "a go".

Here is our Saturday Night Pizza Fest menu for tonight:

1.  Anchovie

2.  Canadian bacon

3.  Cheese

4.  Chicago style

5.  Goetta

6.  Hawaiian (Larry, will save several slice for you to have after the PBS auction.)

7.  Italian sausage

8.  Pepperoni/mushroom

9.  Supreme

10.  Ham and green pepper

Desserts tonight:

1.  Hot fudge cake

2.  Apple, peach or strawberry cobbler (ice cream is available, if anyone is warm enough to eat ice cream)

Hope you all enjoy, have a good evening, take care and see you in the morning.

Man, it seems the weather is affecting every aspect of people's work and play all over North America.

At least it meant you were able to get back for Saturday night Pizza Night. I will take a Canadian Bacon pizza tonight.

And would you believe I found a live streaming Curling game on the CBC.ca website from Grande Prairie, AB that I have open in a window right now. The time for winning for worldwide fame and glory has passed, they are just playing for lot's of cash tonight.Big Smile

Thanks, CW.

Day One of rules over and done with.  Man, they are serious about this whole cell phone (and electronic device) thing.  And word is there will be a lot of enforcement, too.

Back tomorrow for Air Brakes, then back to the PBS TV station for the last night of their auction.

Monday, watch out!

Good Sunday morning everyone.  43 degrees here in Louisville this morning.  I haven't checked the rain gauge yet to see how much rain we got yesterday.  Guess we'll do that a little bit later this morning.  The guessers say we'll see a high today in the 60s, but we'll also have a good breeze out of the south/southwest.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go:  milk, chocolate milk (hot or cold), tea (hot and iced).  On the serving station this morning:  blueberry muffins, pancakes, sausage patties/links, eggs (fried or scrambled).

Everyone have a good morning, take care going to Church, work, or out doing your weekend rail fanning.

....Church completed.....In a few minutes we're heading to Red Lobster to have lunch with family / friends.

Still some breeze here, and probably a bit below normal temps., but bright sunshine, and almost clear skies....Seems we've had heavy damage and fatilities in several States in the past 24 or so....Terrible.

Weather extremes again {still}....Believe we're getting enough proof we're experiencing {climate}, changes.

Nice Sunday.

I am back after an extended hospital stay and major surgery. My room overlooked the CSX A line but trees blocked the view. At least I was treated to a symphony of CSX and Amtrak thunder on a regular basis.

I am not gonna be too active here until my strength comes back, but wil be monitoring. It is good to be back.

Tom, glad to have you back!  Hope you continue to improve, health wise.

We currently have a temp of 71 degrees, with a nice breeze blowing.  When I went to the grocery about 3 hours ago, the breeze had a bit of a nip to it, but the breeze had warmed up a bit.  Feels real nice outside.

For our Sunday Dinner:

Grilled some steaks, burgers and brats and some corn on the cob.  We also have baked beans, your choice of cole slaw or garden salad, broccoli w/cheese sauce, and baked taters.

When I went to the store, got some 'last minute' things I will be need towards the end of the week (Friday, most likely) for when I start cooking our Easter Dinner:  shelly beans, crescent rolls, etc.  We'll be having turkey, home made dressing, the beans, rolls, and I may even fix some potato salad, so I'll have something I can eat, and will also be fixing mashed taters.

I'm going to have a busy week, what with Tuesday Produce, therapy visits, and cooking for both the Cafe/Diner and home.  Guess after I get through here on the computer, I'll head upstairs, and start on my exercises I can do here at home.

Everyone enjoy your afternoon, have a good one, take care and see you all later.

Glad you are back, Tom.

If you aren't feeling up to typing, just bang on a few keys and we will know it is you.

Full moon today - anyone else feel their tide go in and out?

Still springish - we are 50's and low 60's this week.  Better than 30's, I guess.

Felt like an air traffic controller - napped inbetween trains trackside.  We try not to nap at the same time in case someone approaches the car, but think we overlapped a little today.

Usual coal back and forth and the Boeing train coming in (about 75 cars) and an m-t one heading back out south.  Doing BO setouts, so didn't wait for it.  Saw headend right in front of us, so got the goodies out of that train.

Off to do whatever it is that I do....

Good Monday morning everyone.  Had kind of a rude awakening this morning:  the Civil Defense/Emergency siren was going off this morning, at about 4:50.  There was an ethenol spill at the Marathon plant, not too far away from us.  It was warning everyone to stay inside, just in case.  They just gave the all clear a few minutes ago.

Mookie, glad to see you were able to make it in here last evening!  When you are here, I don't feel like the lone stranger, being the only female around here!

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the serving station this morning, you'll find the usual breakfast menu.

My exercises for my hip are coming along, I think.  There's a couple of them I can't do here at home, so I only do them the 2 days a week I go to Therapy.  Which will be tomorrow and Thursday afternoons.

We have 61 degrees this morning, might see a high of around 80 this afternoon.  But we also have a pretty good chance of rain showers coming in sometime after midnight through tomorrow morning.

Everyone have a very good morning, take care, and I'll see you all later.

Overcast....50ish degrees....just about to head out to breakfast.  Jean wants pancakes.

Tues. is to be our stormy day / night this week.

Would like to mow this afternoon.....Hope it stays dry for me to do so.

Pretty bossoms out now.  And Michigan with 2 to 4" of snow this morning....!!

Allergies seem to be going haywire this morning:  keep sneezing and sneezing.  Oh well, what can you expect, when you have a maple tree in the yard/parking lot next door (which is one of the main culprits right now).

For this afternoon and evening, here is our menu:

1.  Tuna melt casserole

2.  Italian spaghetti w/meatballs, garden salad and your choice of toasted Italian bread or bread sticks

Everyone enjoy your meal, your afternoon and take care.  Will try to be back in later on.

Afternoon all.....

Has been a busy week on the road, combined with battling a head cold, has made life interesting.  Wind in NY, PA, and VA yesterday sucked up a lot of fuel, burned 110 gallons between Baldwinsville, NY and Troutville, VA (by Roanoke), distance is about 570 miles.

Hoping to get home sometime this week to finish moving and doing some remodeling on the house, we are down to just essentials at the apartment, and Marlene has started with wallpaper removal (which is going fast on the first room, old wallpaper was applied over sand texture paint).  Plan is to have the moving done and rooms done by the third or so of May, and some other light fixtures changed (the ones that are the most dated are slated for removal).

See everyone later......

Good Tuesday morning everyone.  Randy, hope you start feeling better soon.  Head colds are as bad as allergies!  I'm fighting a head cold along with my nasal allergies.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Breakfast is on the serving station.

I won't be back in until later this afternoon.  My ride to Therapy is supposed to pick me up around 11:30 this morning, so as soon as I get through with Tuesday Produce, it'll be time to get ready to go again.

At 6:09 a.m., we have a temp in the low 70s, with very light rain outside.  Just enough to make the streets slick.  Everyone have a good morning, take care and take cover, if you're in the storm line and see you all later.

We're sitting at 33 here, waiting for 6"-9" of heavy, wet snow to start falling around 1 PM or so.  Should be a messy week.  Now I'm glad I procrastinated putting the snowblower away!

.....We're overcast here and have had .75" of rain overnight.  Temps. are a bit below normal.  Today we will be in included in a large zone of red on the weather map for severe weather.  Not really looking forward to that.

Extremes certainly has been more the norm in many areas for this Spring season...for that matter, for several seasons looking backwards.

Terrible tragedies as we've seen over this past weekend in many areas.

Glad I got my yard mowed late last evening, as it looks like unsettled weather now most of this week.....And just as I type that, the sun broke thru and in my eastern office window here...but just for a few seconds, as overcast is predominant this morning.

Can't believe all the areas getting snow....at this time of the year....Snow flurries, easy to understand for some areas, but 2 , 6 or more inches of snow in the 3rd week of April....!  Belive that adds to extremes of what we've been seeing in weather.

Our Muncie paper has an article this morning of the University here {Ball State}, and a transportation coalition group for commuter service between Muncie and Indy downtown....They are trying to get Amtrak set up for transportation {this coming Sep}, of passengers to a big game in Indy.....Might have 700 students and others from both Anderson and Muncie....and more if possibly 2 round trips could be arranged.

Railroads, N S & CSX would be involved.  The Commuter Coalition locally, helping to possibly get this accomplished, is trying to establish a schedule of back & forth commuter service, between Muncie and Indy, with a stop in Anderson as well on a daily basis....They have been seeking ways to get interest in this for some time now.  Downtown to intercity milage, roughly 55 - 60 mi.

The double track line that passes east / west thru Muncie & Anderson and on to Indy is a busy high quality route that would be the route used.  Of course it is freight only now.  That is CSX.

Was not always the case....Previously, prior to Amtrak and eariler their were several thru passenger trains servicing Muncie on this line.  Back then It was NYC.

Would be nice to see some movement to accomplish this.  The Indy station is right downtown.  Many comuters travel this route {I-69}, ea. day and during work travel time it is extremely busy....and even saturated at times,,,,We'll be watching.
