And Willy, be sure and wish a Happy Birthday to your Mom!  Are you going to take her out to dinner/supper for her birthday?  Or possibly cook a meal at home for her?

My dad and I took my mom out to eat last night, to the restaurant of her choice.

It's a good thing my mom is pretty forgiving or my dad would be in the doghouse. In the birthday card he gave her, he wished her a happy 68th birthday, which is ten years too many! Oops.

Tom - sorry about the storms. Sometimes things go awry.

Johnny - On our trip to Arizona in May, I noted that the Southwest Chief was almost always given priority over the freight trains. In fact, there were quite a few very well executed overtakes in New Mexico and Arizona.

CW - you hit the jackpot this a.m.  I have always loved (next to chocolate cake) long johns with chocolate and cream filling.  Of course, they give me indigestion, so I can only lick off the frosting and eat the cream filling, but it is the thought that counts!  Chocolate cake never gives me fits of any kind!  Yeah!!

Good morning from Carolina. At present, it is cloudy and 75 degrees, after two thunderstorms last night. The second one woke me up around 4 AM, and then the girls got me up to stay around 5:30. More of the same expected later today.

Paula, thanks for the great breakfast, and everyone have a great day.

Good Friday morning, everyone.  Our current temp is 75 degrees, temp's supposed to get back up in the mid 90s today.

Coffee, juices and other regular morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Everything from milk to the hot water for our hot tea drinkers.

On the serving station, we have the regular bagels and bear claws, to our Friday morning doughnuts, including the chocolate covered, cream filled long johns to the regular glazed doughnuts, along with bacon, sausage, eggs, biscuits & gravy.  And we also have some raspberry danish.

Mookie, which would you like to have this morning, with your coffee?

I hope everyone has a very good morning, keep safe, take care, and I'll see you all later on.  Going to go tackle emails.

Quentin, we had very few delays caused by bad meets (waiting for a freight to show). Most of the meets (and overtakes) with freights were well handled. I never did learn, however, why we sat in Houston, after leaving the station, for about three hours. One freight that we met almost filled the pass track.

39 degrees in Salt Lake this morning, with the rain having ended last night, and up into the sixties by this afternoon.

So much for the weather quacks, Willy. First, they forecast a thunderstorm. Then they changed it to partly clear and no thunder. Guess what came rumbling overhead a coupla hours ago and chased me off the wireless. Phooey!

Noted the evening Indy TV news indicated:  Next 5 days to be 90 or more.

And of course, here....that means humidity too.

Welllll, they've changed the guess to no thunder! Three days without a thunderstorm. What have we done??

Plenty hot, tho. At present 93 and partly cloudy as the sun begins to set.

Everyone have a great evening, and thanks for supper, Paula

cherokee woman

For lunch today, I've fixed some sloppy joes, tuna melt casserole, tater chips to go with the sloppy joes, and we have a nice fresh garden salad.

Well, since I received no requests for anything different tonight, I've replenished the sloppy joes, tuna melt casserole and garden salad, and put out more tater chips on the serving station.

Guess we'll all be in the 3 Hs for the next week, or so, starting tomorrow.  Our official high today was in the mid to upper 80s, but tomorrow, looks like we'll be in the mid to upper 90s.  Yuck, yuck, yuck.

.....Not quite finished with shrub trimming yet....Almost, but it's too hot and humid to continue right now, so hopefully I can finish it up later today when it gets a bit cooler.

.....Item:   The 1929 Ford Tri-motor airplane {to be here to the 20th}, just flew over and I ran outside to see it....Forgot this was the first day for it here at our Muncie airport.

So, we'll head out there tomorrow to see it and hopefully get some photos of it....maybe in action.  Hopefully.   It didn't sound unusual.....just like many old radial engined planes....I was thinking perhaps with the 3 engines, it might have a slightly different sound.  And maybe closer, it does.

Happy Birthday, Adrian!!  If you're around, is there anything special you'd like for supper, and birthday dessert?

Was just out on the front porch, and it doesn't feel too bad.  Believe our high is to be in the low to mid 90s today, with a very slight chance of a popup shower, thunderstorm.

For lunch today, I've fixed some sloppy joes, tuna melt casserole, tater chips to go with the sloppy joes, and we have a nice fresh garden salad.

Do I have any requests for supper tonight, just in case Adrian doesn't make it in?

Johnny.....Your extensive RR trip sounds great....One question.  With todays priorities on the rails, do you find a lot of very slow running due to other trains {freight}, outclassing the Amtrak priority....?

I'm guessing one might run into many situations of being put to the siding, and or slow running.  That which could get boring as compared to nice, enjoying high speed running.....

Good morning all! Thanks for breakfast!

Well the humidity had finaly moved out of our area. I’m thankful for that.Thumbs Up We went riding 4-wheelers last night, and discovered that some of the corn in our area is up to my shoulders! It sure is coming up at quite a clip. I hope to go rail fanning today after dad gets home, but we’ll have to see how he feels. Have a good day all!

Good Thursday morning, everyone.  Well, it looks like you all did quite well, with my being absent yesterday.  I was feeling fairly well yesterday (no aches, pains), so I attacked laundry.  Got bedclothes all washed up, kitchen towels, pot holders, etc., are all clean and ready to mess up again, around here.  By the time I finished, I was too pooped to even think about getting on the computer.

Congratulations to Papa Larry, son, dil, and rest of family on your new addition to the family!!

Also congratulations to Johnny and Ricki on a trip that saw you arrive back home safe and sound!!

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the serving station this morning:  bagels, bear claws, BLTs, sausage, scrambled eggs, biscuits & gravy, cantaloupe, watermelon, kiwi, payaya, seedless grapes (red, white, purple) and blueberries.

And Willy, be sure and wish a Happy Birthday to your Mom!  Are you going to take her out to dinner/supper for her birthday?  Or possibly cook a meal at home for her?

Everyone have a very safe day, and take care.

As much as I love riding the train, I don't think I'll be following in your footsteps anytime soon. That's too many trains even for me!

Willy, my 55 year-old niece told me that she would need a double dose of Vitamin B12 to take the trip. Ah, these frail youth! We did take five weeks and two days for the entire trip.

Hey Brian! Great to hear you are so much better. I'm gonna' eat a banana split in your honor this afternoon.

Go right ahead, I don't do bananas.  Show me a hot fudge sundae, though, and I'll show you an empty dish.

Mookie

Willy:  You are getting a little sloppy.  I saw all the rain in Kansas and some of it dribbled over the state line into Lincoln.  Neatness counts!

Looks to me like what is coming out of the 4 corners (which is where a lot of our bad weather comes from) is going to by-pass us and beat up Kansas (again) and Iowa (again).

Straight west into Wyo/Colo - that will all go north and attack probably northern NE and ......Omaha!  Mischief

And if some little noxious storm does happen to wander into the neighborhood, we will just pull our lid over our bowl and stay out of trouble.  Approve

I'm so frazzled from physics that I can't even see straight, let alone place my thunderstorms neatly!

Woe to the people of Lincoln on the day that their lid fails!

Deggesty

We got back home Monday night after a pleasant trip from Denver on the California Zephyr (cool in Denver--and snow after going under James Peak). It was late arriving in Denver because of high water around Lincoln (not due to Mookie's tears, I hopeSmile. I hope to finish unpacking tomorrow; it takes a while to get through five weeks of mail (mostly catalogs).

We had a great time, seeing old places--living, visiting, schools, relatives and such, and riding trains (CZ, Capitol Service, Coast Starlight, Empire Builder (Portland section), Cardinal, Capitol Limited, Empire Builder (Portland section), Coast Starlight, Sunset Limited, CIty of New Orleans, City of New Orleans, CZ, and CZ).

It was warm here yesterday, and a cold front came in this afternoon so that we will have a day or two of cool weather.

I'm happy to hear your trip was a success! As much as I love riding the train, I don't think I'll be following in your footsteps anytime soon. That's too many trains even for me!

Mookie - That little shower earlier was just a warm-up/test run for the big show I plan to put on tomorrow evening. Evil

Evening all.....

Sitting on the WI/IL state line, tomorrow will be going to New Glarus to unload, then somewhere else afterward.  Right now, listening to a Johnny Dollar marathon on Radio Classics, channel 118 on my Sirius radio.  Have gotten hooked on the old-time radio shows, lot better than the stuff on nowadays.

Congrats, Larry, on the new grandchild.

See everyone later.....

Whatever you do, don't send it this way.  We're trying to dry out after the last week.  Beautiful clear blue sky and 77 degrees here- can't wait to get out of here (work) and enjoy it.

Oh, and congrats, Grandpa Larry!
