Cannonball

the former nyc route between crestline and belfontaine is the csx indy line.It connects with the B&O line at greenwhich ohio(just east of willard). It also connects with the C&O at Marion ohio.It serves the honda plant in marysville ohio. The W&LE use the track from greenwhich to get to there track at New London ohio.Crestline is a former shell of itself. The prr roundhouse is gone.Csx has a small yard there and interchanges with the CF&E(chicago ftwayne and eastern). Also in ansonia RJ corman has a branch line that hooks up with CSX.We really need to get a field trip over to the eastern part of ohio and go exploring.Hope this helps.

Cw thanks for breakfast.the rain has stopped here in nw ohio for now.

stay safe

Good Wednesday morning, everyone.  I hope you all had a very good evening, and everyone is doing all right.  We currently have 57 degrees, with cloudy skies, going for a high in the mid to upper 60s today, with a little bit of sunshine.

It looks like we had a slow night in here.  Everything is cleaned up from supper last night, and I've got the coffee fresh and ready to go, along with our juices, there's hot chocolate, hot water for tea, and the usual soft drinks and iced tea for anyone who doesn't drink coffee or hot tea.

On the serving station this morning:  BLTs , bagels, bear claws, sausage, bacon and scrambled eggs and toast.

Everyone have a great day, and I'll see you all a little later.  Take care.

Question  Joe ; is there much rail traffic from Ansonia to Belfontaine and Crestline ?  I was asked that by another Buceye friend recently.  With the years and mergers , is the rail lines still there ?   Sign - Oops misspelled Buckeye Blush

                                            Respectfully, Cannonball

Thank you, Dan, for the info on when Mt. St. Helens erupted; and thanks also to Bob and Brian for the pictures.

We finally got Tuesday Produce over with.  The truck was late, compared to the last two months.  Had 62 people today, but had several slow helpers, who couldn't get their act together on filling the bags with the produce.  Today we got tomatoes, green sweet peppers, cabbage, celery and potatoes.

So, for tonight, we have meat loaf w/mashed taters & gravy from the meat loaf, green beans, and we'll have a garden salad with the celery, peppers, tomatoes and a little bit of cabbage in with the lettuce.  (We'll have our Mexican Fiesta tomorrow.)

After I got home from Produce, Walt and I caught the bus and went to vote.  So we have done our patriotic duty, until November.

We have very cloudy skies, with a temp of 62.2 degrees (that's from our thermometer).  Everyone enjoy your supper, have a good evening, and take care.

I heard on the news this morning, that today is the (?) anniversary of the eruption of Mt. Saint Helens.  How long ago has that been?  I do not recall them saying how many years (caught the very last of the sound bite).

My family and I were living in Spokane when it blew in 1980. The next morning I measured 4 inches of ash in my driveway. The emergency broadcast system did not work. I was mowing the lawn when I saw the dark cloud coming. I was in Yakima the previous day on business and that company offered to put me up for the night. I would have been stranded for more than a week.

......And I forgot to add....We have a cool morning w/ no wind, and just a fine mist of rain at times.  Was hoping to get a couple of hrs. of dry today to get my lawn attended to, but doesn't look promising.  In fact, I'll stop and go check how wet the grass is right now.....Yep, it's wet....Bummer...I'll need a scythe if I soon can't get to it....

It's about 56 degrees but calm winds, so doesn't feel too bad.  Overcast.

Trivia:  Noted in local paper this morning we'll have 5 {yes five...!}, young females trying for a position in the Indy 500 mi. race this year....Of course the two who have been involved recently and most popular are Danica Patrick and Sarah Fisher....The others, I don't have the names in front of me now.  This is a new record of ladies trying for a position in the famous race.  Janet Guthre back in {I believe}, the 70's was the first to get it started in modern times....Not sure about any further back in the decades.

Quentin, is that your favorite spaghetti/pasta?  I really don't care for the angel hair pasta.  As far as bread sticks go, I usually make sure they have enough moisture in them when I'm making them , and cover them with butter/margarine.  And that's one reason I prefer the Texas toast:  it is never too dry.

Oh yes....We frequent our Olive Garden restaurant here in Muncie quite a bit and I find their Angle Hair spaghetti and meat sauce {ummmm, good}, and we ask for bread sticks minus the garlic and receive them "dry" and with pads of butter for them....That really makes an excellent meal.  Making me hungry just writing about them....

Good Tuesday morning, everyone.  We currently have a temp of 61 degrees, with foggy conditions.  Our high today: 64, so not much of a temperature change today.  Also going to have drizzles, light rain most of the day.

Randy hope you're soon feeling better!

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  And, of course, there's plenty of hot water for our tea drinkers.

On the serving station this morning:  bagels, bear claws, biscuits, sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs and gravy.

I heard on the news this morning, that today is the (?) anniversary of the eruption of Mt. Saint Helens.  How long ago has that been?  I do not recall them saying how many years (caught the very last of the sound bite).

Everyone have a good morning, if you're in the foggy areas, please be careful this morning, and hope most of you will be able to stay dry.

Originally all the colonies from New York south to Georgia extended west to French Territory, but were trimmed to more manageable sections when they proved too big to govern.

Ohio was ready to fight for Toledo until they started dragging cannons through the great black swamp.Michigan got its upper portion kinda as a consolation prize

The ultimate consolation prize is what happened to the state of Georgia. I cannot find the referrence but at one time  Georgia went west all the way to the Mississippi river except for Louisana and Florida. The back room deals and politics fill a whole book. The final outcome creating Alabama and Mississippi had to be decided by the US Supreme court.

Afternoon/evening all......

Has been an interesting last few days, what with me being down with what I thought was food poisoning (it was, kinda), and truck issues (major electrical issues).  Am at the house right now, waiting on repairs.

Well, we've not gotten any rain yet, but it looks like some is on its ways in.  Unfortunately.  I wish it would bypass us!  Sick of all this rain.

The menu for the rest of the day:

1.  Italian spaghetti w/meat balls, garlic Texas toast, garden salad or Caesar salad

Yes, mudchicken, the Reds are in first place in the central division.  Let us hope they can keep it for awhile!

Everyone have a good afternoon, and take care.

CW - we lucked out this year.  We voted by mail and then left town when they had our primary.  That way we didn't have to watch all the insufferable voting returns all nite on tv.

Good Monday morning, everyone.  Justin, you're just growing up!  Girls are starting to interest you more and more.  It's all part of Nature.

We have 61 degrees this moring, and no rain (at least not yet, anyway), going to a high of 69,70 degrees.  Yes, we have a possibility of more rain later this morning.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the serving station this morning:  bagels, bear claws, cantaloupe, watermelon, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, biscuits & sausage gravy.

We have elections tomorrow.  I'm still trying to figure out who I will be voting for.  Will be voting for Louisville Metro Mayor, State Senator, Representative, and some District Court/Division judges.  Oh well, enough of that.

Everyone have a good morning, and take care.

Actually, Ms Mook, all of the one-time "Northwest Territory" (MI, OH, IN, IL, WI and part of MN) is laid out in 36 square mile townships, six miles on a side.

......The grid system, and it's visible on west too.  Even out in the deserts.  But not east of Oh.

Um...Tree....You are forgiven, being that you are a resident in a metes & bounds/colonial ("rock by the river")state. As for your Michigan teacher, we may have to discuss a few things (seance/ouijii board required?)...

The Michigan Principal Meridian (1815) controlled parts of Michigan and Ohio (including the contested portion and the Yoopers are a tad off). Ohio has some townships only five miles square (Fire Lands, and Jefferson wanted TEN). Ohio was the guinea pig test for the public lands system, all kinds of different numbering systems and related nonsense starting in 1785 (Seven Ranges/Ohio Purchase)...Some in Ohio don't have an origin (0,0) or a baseline. I grew up in the Symmes Purchase (no origin) and Joe lives inside the First Principal Meridian.

http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/Visitors/PrincipleMeridiansAndBaselines.html

Mooks may get her bloomers in a bunch (again) , but she and I live in the 6th Principal Meridian. Diningcar and I have spent years trying to figure out what some of those original surveyors did. (ps- The four corners is right where it is supposed to be, the surveyors didn't goof. The media sure got fooled badly on that one)

There are places that the GLO/BLM never got to.

Michigan got its upper portion kinda as a consolation prize

And there's still people complaining about that....  Shock

Actually, Ms Mook, all of the one-time "Northwest Territory" (MI, OH, IN, IL, WI and part of MN) is laid out in 36 square mile townships, six miles on a side.  There are variations, but not a lot.  Each state has a baseline and a meridian, and the townships are officially designated by their relationship to those lines.  I lived in township two north, range 7 east (second township north of the baseline, seventh east of the meridian).

Each township is also broken up into square mile "sections" (640 acres) which are numbered.  These figure into official property descriptions.  After one gets done with the "rock by the river" stuff, your property description might include "in the NW quarter of the SE quarter of section 10 of township 2N, Range 7E.

I'm sure the idea carried further west as the lands were developed.

See - I did learn something in 7th Grade "Michigan History and Government..."

Hi all. I need your help.

I had my first slow dance Friday night. She was so beautiful. The way here eyes sparkled was amazing! For the first time in my life the first ting I think of isn’t a westbound intermodal train making it to LA on time… I feel so weird… What is it?
