How well does the juke box work? Going on sixty years ago, I was asked to help a cafe juke box to work better than it was working. The main problem seemed to be grease that covered many of the working parts and hindered their movement.
In the thirties this moring, and we can expect the same for three or four more days. At least we have not had the heavy snow in the valley that Memphis and upcountry South Carolina had on Easter, 25 April, 1941. The mountains are getting several inches.

Good morning. It's Saturday. 66 degrees and clear in Carolina, topping out with 86 and partly clear later. We actually spent a night without the girls throwing a hootenanny in the middle.... Guess the neighbor lady didn't blow her whistle.

Good Saturday morning. Tom, thank you and crew for getting everything moved overnight. Woke up at 4:50 to lightning shining through the bedroom window. Then, heard the thunder. Everything from flood watches to tornado watches has been the norm this morning. It looks like we'll have pretty much continuous rain/tshowers/storms until early Monday morning. The prediction so far, is a total of probably at least 5 inches by Monday morning. (Yuck, yuck, yuck)
Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go. On the serving station this morning: Country fried ham w/red eye gravy, scrambled eggs, sausage, made-from-scratch buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, kiwi, papaya, bananas, bacon and pancakes w/syrup rounding up the selections this morning.
People out at Churchill Downs today definitely need to go for the mudders! They'll be opening the gates at 8 a.m., for the hoards of people to start going in. Two years ago today, on Derby morning, was when I had my anxiety attack, and went to the hospital. Glad I didn't have a repeat of that this morning!

Nice day here so far - but we'll have to see how long it takes that troublesome front to drift east. We could use some rain, though.

After the deluge of last night, skies are clear and sun is out. Missed most of the big stuff, but helped to knock out some of the pollen (sister has allergies). Judging from the watches and warnings out, Louisville may have to build an ark before the weekend is out...
On vacation now for a week and a half, needed after so much time on the road. Hope to work on the layout, but missing box of roadbed I ordered (not sure where it is yet). It's only for the main line, though, maybe I can work around it. Also going to help my dad with a retaining wall project, have to run to Home Depot later to pick up another pallet of retaining wall block (second one this year, and fourth or fifth one overall for house).

Morning all! CW, thanks for breakfast!
Boy what a rain storm we had last evening!Once, a large clap of thunder made the house rattle. It poured all night long, but now it’s just really cloudy, humid and mild. About 66* right now.
We took Grandma out for her birthday this morning. That was really nice, and I enjoyed getting to spend time with her and Mom. We had the best biscuits and gravy too!
We went down by the Norfolk Southern ROW and saw nothing but red all the way down the signal masts. Oh well, maybe another day.

I just peeked from a distance to the rain gauge as I went for the paper this morning and it seemed to be less than a half inch. Front must have passed thru here about 4 am....Lightning and rain. Other than that, that's all we had. Note some leaves down from western neighbor in our yard but no limbs. Still plenty warm. Overcast.
I completely forgot about the mule race in Louisville. I imagine the place is teeming with visitors today. I know that when we have a race in Darlington, it takes in a radius of 20 or more miles, so I can imagine what derby day must be like.

My wife and I went out to a San Antonio Missions baseball game last night. Perfect evening for a ball game. And the Missions beat Midland 5-4 in 10 innings!

Greetings from AZ where it has been cool since Tuesday evening. High in low 60's today.
We went to a cancer benefit dinner last night at the American Legion Post. Wonderful food and very generous participation witrh the fund raising. Makes you feel so good to see an eclectic crowd having a good time for a great cause.
Thanks for the breakfast, Paula although I participated lightly because of over eating last night.
It is Arbor Day. A state holiday here in Nebraska. I only mention it because it seems apropos to sing: to the only "Tree" I know....

Other than that - it is sunny and nice. And BNSF ran all their trains on Thur and Fri and overnite last nite. If they are trying to hide from us, they are going to get fooled cuz won't be long now and we will be able to watch them anytime and any day at the watch site! Wonder how they will get around that one!

Other than the rain today and predicted for tomorrow, the week(s) leading up to Derby have been reasonably nice.....have gotten to see a lot of extra rail activity, including the NS Derby Train and the Amtrak/Brown-Foreman Train......haven't had the chance to see the CSX Train (Sarah did, as it came into Osborn while she was at work) and the R.J. Corman Train. Do know (according to scanner) that they have made it into town this morning.
With the decent weather the last several days, I've managed to put some miles on the bicycle and few pictures through the camera. [Will have a few pictures available on Facebook later]

.....And then some, Tom.....back in 1961 Jean and I stayed 50 mi. away from the track the night before...{already had tickets}, as we were on our way to Florida after the race. Stopped in Smokey Yunick's garage a day or two later and saw them working on the Pontiac he had in that race with Marvin Panch leading....and he ran out of gas with about 2 laps remaining giving the race to Nelson Stacey.
Things were different then.....I was actually under that race car in Smokey's garage on a creeper as a visitor allowed to take a look at it as they had a new engine sitting along side ready to install for the next race.
Well, one pallet of block down, one to go. Dad and I set the whole pallet in the wall today, though we needed to get two loads of sand from town, dad dug the trench just a bit too deep, we wound up with about 8 inches of sand under the blocks. Tomorrow morning, will talk with friends and hammer out a price on the house I'm looking at, then off to Home Depot for another pallet of block, which should get us close to finishing the wall. Then the trick will be placing fill behind the wall, or rather finding enough fill to place behind the wall, since we found out we will not have to remove as much from in front of the wall.
Will take a pepperoni for dinner, then rest for the evening......

Well, Other things happen on "Derby Day" here in Louisville, Ky.; Sarah has been studying Jiu-Jitsu for awhile and it was time she advanced, so she had her "Blue Belt "Test today.........as you can see from the picture, She's a Very Happy Camper (or .............) and earned her Blue Belt.

CW; glad to hear you are done with the rehab excersizes. Sometimes they hurt worse than the ailment. I'm getting over a knee operation { ripped ligament} an out patient procedure. Beautiful day yesterday until it rained while I was out directing traffic at an accident (I'm dry now). Nice out this Sunday morning, but the radar seems to be promising we'll be getting some rain later in the day.
We had a nice luncheon for our RR volunteers. The signal maintainer had a problem to deal with - a telephone wire had apparently moved ever so slightly since last year and was causing the gates at the adjacent crossing to drop repeatedly. That got fixed for the moment, but the gates were out of service when the train left after dinner, so we had to flag the crossing. It was a short train...
Long list of projects for the day (including washing the sheets and getting them out on the line to dry in the fresh air before it rains), so I better get going!

Your comment on 'Muggers Beware" is very good; she just started Jiu-Jitsu just over a year ago, but is a Black Belt in Karate. (we don't spar too much around here, I don't like being on the floor all the time!.......and I have some training also.)
Just checked the rain gauge right after Sarah got on the road for Atlanta; had checked it at 0 Darkthirty and it was showing about 2 and 1/2"; now it's showing just under 4". We had a pretty hefty shower after CW's last post.
Well, I see that CW just got credit for that last post, I was signed in under my screen name, how come it showed up as her posting?! Kalmbach People, when you got new servers, you really didn't take care of all the problems that people have had with this Forum.
......Those are big number in rain gauges....Here, I checked this morning and it shows just .9" for the past 2 days total...! Still warm here and just a very, very fine mist.
Well, I've been busy in the kitchen, preparing our Sunday Dinner:
1. Roast beef w/potatoes & carrots, green beans, whole kernal corn, fresh garden salad and fresh-from-the-oven dinner rolls
2. Pork chop abracadbra, broccoli w/cheese sauce, cauliflower w/butter sauce
As an FYI, we have an anniversary coming up in here Wednesday. Our 6th(?)anniversary of being around here. Amazing that jhhtrainsplanes started this as the Depot Diner and Coffee Shop on my birthday, and made me the chief cook. It just doesn't seem like it's been that long ago.
