Hi everyone! It has sure been a while hasn't it? Well, just thought I'd drop in and see what was going on. Maybe it won't be another six months before I get to drop in again. Until next time....

Sarah didn't get called by the R.R. to work this evening, so she's been working out in the yard doing a few things. A little creativity in the front flower bed close to our big pine tree.  Thumbs Up

Quentin, is this true?
I heard Ford was going to stop making Mercurys.

Dale:

Perhaps you have seen the news by now.....If not, the report is Ford is reporting it will drop Mercury.  It's amazing over the decades how many times that rumor was around....Finally, it seems to be true.

Question   Tree , do you know which of the Chiefs had a small ( on the ground) event today between STL and CHG. this morn?? The last two cars went astray. No local news on the western front just a small blurb  on HLN. Been busy outside all day, still no news at 6:00pm. MST.

It was a busy weekend on the railroad - unfortunately more for the clean-up/fix-up stuff we did than the passengers (which equalled last's year's opening weekend, though.  We actually annulled our last run on Monday - one couple showed up and we offered a free ride some other time, which they happily accepted.

I even got home early enough to mow the lawn (which really needed it, even if it hasn't rained).

On the way home I encountered a house fire that apparently started with a gas can in the attached garage.  FD was there by the time I happened by and had the fire mostly out.  Still, it looked like it pretty much gutted the house.

Afternoon everyone.....

Not too bad running today, until I got north of Columbus, then traffic and weather picked up.  Had hail on I-271 at about noon or so, and made it to Austinburg, OH, about 10 minutes before the sky opened up.  Bought a small fan that runs off the cigarette lighter plug to circulate air in sleeper, was working fine up until sun came out and it warmed back up again, may have to fire up truck and get it cooled down again.

Should be able to drop this in Weedsport yard tomorrow morning, then find something to get me homeward bound, have a cousin's wedding to go to Friday afternoon, then weekend off to recover.  Should get some more work done on the layout again, may get close to having all track laid and wired by end of weekend if all goes well......

Remember:  All gave some, some gave all.........

Well, I made it back in.  Had to go to the store, and get a few things, especially a couple of my prescriptions.

Here is our Memorial Day Cookout menu:

1.  steaks, burgers, hot dogs, brats

2.  Side dishes:  baked beans, green beans, mac & cheese, corn on the cob, cole slaw, potato salad, red, white & blue decorations on another chocolate sheet cake.

There's plenty of iced tea (sweet and unsweet) and lemonade made up.

As others have said, remember why we are celebrating today, and if you happen to see a Veteran, please remember to give them a Thank You for Serving!

Good Monday morning, and Happy Memorial Day to one and all!

Mookie, thanks for setting the table last night!  You are a dear, and we all love you!

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the serving station this morning:

Pancakes w/your choice of bacon or sausage, and scrambled eggs.  There's blueberry syrup or maple syrup for the pancakes.

I hope the rain holds off (50% chance of showers/storms today), because I plan to grill out for our lunch and supper tonight.  Guys, when we moved, did you all remember the awning for the patio?  I'm having trouble finding it. Confused

Also, I'm getting things ready to start moving into our new 'home' for the next month.  So, it looks like I'll have a very busy day today.

Edit:  Tom, looks like you snuck in on me!  I'm getting things ready to start moving, so just look for the new edition either later tonight, or in the morning.  Thanks for asking!

Everyone enjoy your breakfast, your day, and please remember the real reason we are celebrating today:  our Military Personnel, especially the ones who are currently fighting for freedom, along with the ones who lost their lives fighting for our freedom.

Bob, Happy Memorial Day from another tin can man. USS McCord DD534 1968-70. I have a cap somewhere.

Hello Americans, it's Monday. 69 and partly sunny, calling for mid 80s and more thunderstorms later.

Does anyone else want to handle the move tomorrow, or do you want me to do it?

Everyone have a great day and take care

Tom

Well, since hardly anyone has been in today, we'll just go with the chicken abracadbra for Sunday Dinner.  There are a couple of Crock Pots plugged in on the counter, and if anyone comes in, you can help yourselves.

About a half hour, 45 minutes ago, we got some very loud thunder.  So far as I can tell, we never got a drop of rain.  Just heard another rumble of thunder, and the sun is shining.

Tom, thank you and all our other Vets here on the trainsmag forums, for your service to this country.  Without you all and the ones who have gone before, we would not have the freedoms we have today.

Now and then

Good Sunday morning, everyone.  Randy, hope your tummy feels better soon!

Tom, thanks for taking care of breakfast this morning.  I really appreciate it.  (I would have been in sooner, but I've been busy in my kitchen here at home.  Been browning chicken and putting it into the Crock Pot w/potatoes and onion for our Sunday Dinner.)

Tom, thank you and all our other Vets here on the trainsmag forums, for your service to this country.  Without you all and the ones who have gone before, we would not have the freedoms we have today.

If any of you (and I realize a lot of people are gone to spend the holiday weekend w/family) have any requests for our Sunday Dinner here at the Flat Wheel Cafe/Diner/CS, please let me know.  I'm kind of thinking about grilling out this afternoon, but I want some input from you guys here!

Everyone have a very good morning, and I'll see you all after a bit.

Hello Americans, it's Sunday. 67 and fog in Carolina at present. The boffins guess at 87 for a high and more thunderstorms late in the day.

Since I seem to be the first one here this morning, breakfast is on the bar along with your choice of beverage. Enjoy.

As a navy veteran, I ask each of you to thank those who didn't come back for the freedoms we all share. Without them, things may well have been different.

Everyone take care

Tom

Evening all.....

Well, about 85 here in Jackson, TN, so truck is running, again.  Got to be in Cherokee, AL, at 5am tomorrow, so will be early night here.  Ordered a new exhaust for my pickup yesterday from Banks Engineering, old 2.5 inch to 3 inch is rusted out, replacement is 4 inches from the turbo back.  Should help in the mileage and power departments a bit, sound should stay about the same, so they say.

No pizza for me tonight, having problems with dairy products, so staying away from them for a while.

See everyone later.....

Since Joe and I are the only ones to have been in today, our Satuday Night Pizza Fest is cut down to one extra large of the following:

1.  Cheese w/extra cheese

2.  Hawaiian

3.  Pepperoni/mushroom

4.  Supreme

But, if more people do happen to drop in, there are plenty of labeled pizzas in the freezer.  Just take one out, and pop it into the oven, or the pizza baker, that is under the front counter.

Good Saturday morning, everyone; and Joe, a very special thank you for coming in early and getting breakfast ready this morning!!

We have a temp of 70 degrees this morning, going for a high of 89,90 by 5 p.m.  Our hazy, hot and steamy days are here.  We have about a 20% chance of showers tomorrow evening.  Hope no storms come through, so we can watch the Memorial Day Concert from DC on our local PBS station!  We always enjoy watching that.

Don't know what time Sarah will be in from work.  She had to work 3rd trick last night.  Said on the job she was to work, she could be off at 7 this morning, or work 12 hours.  So guess we'll see her whenever.  As a matter of fact, I hear her pulling in right now!

Everyone have a good day, keep cool, keep safe, and take care.

Quentin, is this true?
I heard Ford was going to stop making Mercurys

......I've not heard of any reports recently of them doing so, but as you may know those rumors surface periodicly.....For years.

I'll keep  my ears up and if I hear any scuttlebut, I'll let you know.....

Dale, Quentin; there's a "Little Blurb" in todays Business Watch in the Louisville Courier-Journal....online:  www.courier-journal.com

According to the article, the CEO and some of the other top people are going to ask the Board to approve a plan to phase out the Mercury brand.

I guess with the two Ford plants in this area, they thought it was something that we needed to know.

Maybe you should always have your birthday on a Friday?

Something cooler than that is that my birthday usually falls on a three-day weekend here in the states, and sometimes on the holiday itself!

So am I in time to get the last piece?  Sorry, been on the road all day.  Now safely hiding at parents' house near Minneapolis.  More fun tomorrow...

EDIT: Oh, and your menu selections were perfect, CW.

Another oh- Met up briefly with Dan and family (wife, kid, parents) at their hotel downtown this morning- all are doing well; they should be well on their way to Kansas.

Brian - Happy B'day!  I will eat your chocolate cake for you.  My gift to you.  No thanks necessary.

Joe - I am heading to hotmail right now.

CW - to go please.  I seem to be in a hurry these past few days.  Must slow down and really retire, soon!
