About 15 inches of really wet snow.  Still snowing lightly. Windward side of the house, fence, Lurch and anything else with a vertical surface is coated in snow. 3-5 more inches possible today.

Was out shovelling for 3 hours, gotta get cleaned-up and go recover at work.

Doogie is home after losing a few  teeth and a nasty skin tumor. Spent most of last night sleeping on BossHen's lap next to the fireplace.

Mudchicken Nothing is worth taking the risk of losing a life over. Come home tonight in the same condition that you left home this morning in. Safety begins with ME.... cinscocom-west

To:  Jahn Henry out there in Colo - I know you spent many years shoveling coal on those steam engines (smirk), but you really ought to invest in a snowblower.  Driver sez you can still get quite a workout with one, especially if it has a little horsepower.  And when Lurch is sick, you would have a nice slow ride to work.....

Welcome home Ray.  Those IX refunds are the only way we get anything extra.

Quentin - you have a perfect molecatcher machine.  And in between times she can till a garden for you!

Need more coffee.  Hope Joe is enjoying the hammock.  I went in one side and out the other, so giving it a clear berth!

Jen, you're correct....These little dogs will go after anything....no matter what the size.  On the moles....I've never seen any of them yet....and I've deleted quite a few of them over the seasons.  Don't dig them up.

Dashshund doggies, will tackle anything....at least bark at it....This one is so small....Just 10 lbs.  But like all doxies....she has a mind of her own and sneaky....and quick....She can be on your lap, and like a streak of lightning....that nose can swing around an lick one right in the cheek / mouth....But we knew all that beforehand....Had them back a decade or so for 32 years.

It just was, this time.....didn't think we needed another....Overruled.

Not terrible. Wonderful! I wish we had gotten one more big snowstorm here before the end of winter.

We just had our annual Severe Weather Awareness Week test tornado warning here in Nebraska. Now everyone is, supposedly, ready for the real thing.

Ray:  welcome home!  I know you really enjoyed the time with your sister.  If you'd like another sister, I'll be happy to send you mine. Smile,Wink, & Grin

Mookie, Joe and everyone:  grill is hot and raring to go.  Already on the grill, and just about ready to transfer to the serving station:  brats, burgers, cheeseburgers, steaks, pork chops, chicken drumsticks, corn on the cob, and veggie shihkabobs.

There's also:  baked taters, green beans, broccoli w/butter sauce, mac & cheese, cole slaw, potato salad, sliced tomatoes and fried yellow sqash.

Everyone enjoy, and have a nice afternoon.  We are supposed to get to 70 degrees today.

Can you throw some of your snow over to the Wasatch Front? We are extrememly short this winter.Smile Willy, can you help?Smile

MC, I am sorry that Doogie had to lose the teeth, but rejoice that the skin tumor is gone. Is there such a thing as dentures for dogs?

Larry, we went through the sorrow of declining health with our two dogs. Buddy's spleen ruptured and had to be removed in the spring of '03; there was some carcinogenic tissue in it. He left us the following spring, having gone down the last two months of his life.

Ok, Willy....perhaps not terrible, but we certainly need no more this season....Already have 4.5" over our normal for the complete season.  Water table up with plenty of water in the ground.

Yard rolled now.....so will put off yard mowing until tomorrow, as the grass stands back up again.

Afternoon all.

A nice day here. Were setting at 60*F now. Supposed to get a real soaker tomorrow. Looks like ol’ Denver is really getting hammered. A foot of snow! MC, I can only imagine what UP, BNSF, and AMTK have been through this snow season. Our best of wishes to them!

Have a good evening all.

Walt and I have just taken more food off the grills and put on the serving station.  I've also replenished all the side dishes.

Even with mostly cloudy skies today, and hardly any sunshine, we still managed to get to the projected high today of 70 degrees.  Not sure when the rain is to come in, I've not been paying any attention to the news/weather, since it came on about 45 minutes ago.

You all enjoy your supper, have a good evening and take care.

P.S.  Sarah got a call yesterday from CSX:  she is being called back to work!!  After a year and a half, they'll have to be retrained, especially as some things/procedures have changed.  So, she's not sure exactly when she'll be starting back yet.

Congratulations to Sarah, with potential of returning to work....Hopefully, the economy is gaining a bit more strength. Certainly most of us know we do need the recovery to continue to take shape.

Good Thursday morning, everyone.  I hope you all had a good night, last night.  We  are starting out with 56 degrees, going for a high in the low 60s, with the rain coming in.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are ready to go.  On the serving station this morning:  bagels, bear claws and BLTs, along with the regular breakfast menu items.

Does anyone have any requests for lunch/supper menu?  Since tournament play starts up again this afternoon, do you all want to make it a pizza day, or something else?

I know I'll have to take a late nap (like around 7:30, 8:00, so I can stay awake tonight for Kentucky's round at 10:00).  That's usually when I'm getting ready to go night-night.

Mookie, here's your coffee, and I'll go pull our rockers over, so we can watch the trains going by this morning.

Original forecast for this week was mostly sunshine and dry....So far, so good, but now they've entered rain possibility for today, and it's a bit cooler.

A little sun at times this morning, but overcast now with a reasonably bright sky.

Best to all for a good day.

Strange how it is 47 degrees and people say it is chilly. 2 months ago everyone would be saying how warm it is.

And speaking of chilly. Chili would be great for lunch, with those MINIS saltines.

Thanks for the suggestions, Joe and Bob!  Here's the menu for the rest of the day:

1.  BLTs w/reg. fries or curly fries, choice of cole slaw or tossed salad

2.  There's also a couple of pots of chili, with the prerequisite crackers (the chili is mild, so anyone can doctor it up, to suit your preferences, with mild, medium and hot sauces, along with tobasco sauce, too)

And speaking of chili, it's quite chilly here in our house.  We've had the new furnace for right at a month now, and it's decided not to work properly.  The heat was running last night, but today:  nothing.  Walt has checked and checked, can't find out what the problem is.  No heat; fan will work, but only when you move the setting to fan only.  So I called the company who put it in, and someone is supposed to be out sometime this afternoon.  What's that old saying:  From the sublime to the rediculous?

Roy, glad to see you back in here.  Hope you can stay for awhile!

Everyone enjoy, have a good afternoon and take care.

Chili sounded so good I actually had some!

Ms Mook - one of the tank cars I did up the other day had a starring roll in a scenario we did last night at the training center.  There's a (kind of lousy) shot over on the "What's wrong with this picture" thread.

I am just barely creaking through here.  Just got back from grocery shopping - that is always a real "let me show you every ache and pain you ever thought of having" time.

Going to go lay under the hammock - keep falling out of it.

1st must go look at what's playing on the picture show up the street.  Been watching my favorite train cam in the Netherlands and they have some really strange cars on their freight trains.  Very interesting.  They run bare tables a lot; tankers; odd looking tanks and what looks like double ore or metal cars with covers on them - not unlike our coil cars with "lids".  But they are definitely divided in the middle.  Tree have you looked at it?

Tree - very nice.  Pretty good size, too!  Only question - who gets to play with it in the "off-season"?  Anyone we know?  Hmmm?  Shy

If you mean by "play", "maintain," that would be me....

It could have used a good dusting before we did the scenarios, but nobody complained...

Jen, since they moved that video cam at Roanoke....that one is interesting too....Just doesn't have sound.  {That really makes a difference}....Put the Roanoke one on "full screen", and it's really impressive....See lots of coal trains going to the right....believe that's west.  Also quite a few covered grain cars.  Generally 3 engines on the head end.

Evening all......

Has been a "bad day at Black Rock" week here, Monday morning in Fredrick, MD, my 5th wheel assembly failed, dropping the trailer (and the load of beer inside) onto my frame rails.  Spent all day Tuesday at the company shop in Weedsport trying to repair, then outright replacing the whole 5th wheel plate assembly.  On the upside, went to a new (for me) brewery today, they make the "Flying Dog" brand beer.  Only brewery I have been to that had rock music blasting in the warehouse.

Business has picked up a bit here, the industry is forecasting a driver shortage later this year, partly because of the economy, partly because of the new Comprehensive Safety Analysis 2010 that is starting in July, that could possibly remove a lot of drivers from service.  Our company sent out a message yesterday that we are actually turning down business because we do not have enough drivers.

Talked with a driver that now has the new paperless log book that we will be going to soon, and afterwords, am looking forward to working with it, especially after the story he told about the New York DOT officer who thought he would get an easy inspection, only to find out the truck had paperless logs, and passed the truck up.

Well, time for bed, see everyone later.....
