Well, it's 10:18 here in beautiful Aurora and already by my winder thermometer it is a balmy 91F and climbing. My intent is for my morning coffee to be the hottest thing I consume today...period.

To jhh, hope your pooch is doing better today, been there and done that and know it is a real downer for any dog lover like me.  My golden just came in from outside as she is just too hot out there and so would I be if I had to be outside in a fur coat today.

Keep cool and safe folks.

Good Sunday morning, everyone!  Well, it's going to be
another HOT DAY here.  high temp in the 90s, with heat
index right around 100.  You sure can tell the humidity
is up, also, this morning.

Coffee is ready, and juice, iced tea and lemonade are
also freshly made.

On the breakfast bar, you'll find sausage, pancakes, and
some fresh fruit.

Sunday Dinner will be:  country fried steak w/milk gravy,
mashed taters, peas and carrots.

In all  this heat, my brain is kind of fried, so will one
or two of you please give me an idea or two for our supper
menu?

Good Late Evening Folks

Duchess is very sick.  Right now the vet is saying total liver failure.  The count is so high it is off the scale on his machine.  He is more than concerned about her.  She did come home with me and is alert. He gave her a shot, some pills, and a special food for dogs with liver failure.  The next 2 to 5 days will tell us if she lives or not.  He says the liver can heal itself and we are hoping the meds will help it do so.  She is actually eating the special food so there is hope.

You are more than welcome to pray for her and me.  Right now, we need all the help we can get.

No different over here, Carl- 88.2 degrees at 7:43 PM.  We got out and about for a bit today, went and hit a couple of malls.  Managed to time it just right to see a westbound IAIS mixed freight headed out of Coralville with four Geeps leading the way.

I'll take some of #2, please, as usual.

It got as high as 96.5 at work before I left, and the Bug said it was up to 98 locally.  I was "rescued", though I probably could have survived the bike trip home.  We ate our lunch/dinner in the cool '50s comfort of the Elmhurst Portillo's--had cole slaw with broiled burgers (never had their cole slaw before--it's as good as the chocolate cake, in its own way).

Tomorrow may be a repeat of today, both in terms of the weather and the rescue.

Well, it's just about time for our SATURDAY NIGHT
PIZZA FEST.
On the menu tonight:

1.  double cheese
2.  supreme
3.  sausage/pepperoni
4.  pepperoni
5.  goetta
6.  Hawaiian
7.  veggie

As usual, I've made three extra large of each of
the pizzas. So eat all you want.  Any that is left
over, we'll put in the fridge for any late nighters
who come into the DD/CS.

Just got a phone call from Jim (jhh) a little bit ago.
He had to take Duchess to the vet today.  It seems that
she has a problem with her liver, causing jaundice in
her eyes, and they believe that's why she's not been
able to keep any food down.

She had just finished eating 3/4 can of dog food.
And thus far, seems to be keeping it down.
The vet told Jim that her liver should rejuvenate it-
self; it's just going to take some time.

Jim asked that we all remember Duchess in our prayers.
After all, she IS his daughter, albeit four legged
variety.  She means as much to him, as an actual child.

Hot enough to fry an egg on the concrete in my driveway here today...already 90F at 11:35 a.m. and climbing.  A very good day to stay inside and try and keep cool (sure hope my 16 year old A/C holds up again this year!).  Also, keep drinking lots of water or natural fruit juice to keep hydrated on days like this.  No adult beverages as the alchohol is not at all good for you on hot days (or any others...personal comment, sorry), and can actually speed your way towards dehydration.  Stay safe and cool as much as possible.

Just stopping by to say hi and have a glass of ice tea.  Outlook here is three days well into the 90's.  My Trains mag arrived yesterday making for some good reading in the cool quiet of the house.

Weather maps say it is hot everywhere, so be careful out there.

Good Saturday morning, everyone!  It's still very muggy and
sticky here.  Think the rain passed right on over us, cause
I never saw any rain yesterday.

Joe, thanks for putting the coffee on, and making fresh juice
and lemonade.  I've got some tea brewing, and we'll have fresh
iced tea in a little bit.  Both sweetened and unsweetened.

Saturday brunch includes:  bacon, sausage, pancakes, biscuits,
gravy, fried taters, scrambled eggs, grits, and cream of wheat;
along with some fresh cantaloupe and watermelon chunks.

Joe, got two gallons of lemonade ready for your trip to Lima
today.  And Happy 75th Birthday to your mom, and Happy Birthday
to Danny, also! Happy B-Day [bday] Happy B-Day [bday]

Everyone have a great day, and be careful out there, whatever
you have to do today!!

Hey all, thought I'd stop in and break from the heat between shifts.  It's still 80 degrees at 10:45 PM!  YUCK!  At least I can dip in the pool if it gets too hot.  Anyone up for a late (3 AM CST) BS session tonight or tomorrow night?

Did someone mention chocolate cake?  I'll take a late meal, please.  Sorry I haven't been too active here lately- been too distracted by local neighbors in other threads.

Good afternoon, everyone!  Well, the rain is trying to come
into our area.  Not supposed to be anything severe, mostly
some heavy rain.

Hope everyone is ready for our FRIDAY FISH Fry.  The fish
on today's menu:  cod, halibut, perch, and trout.  Also
have plenty of fries, and slaw.

Dessert:  chocolate cake, ice cream, and peach cobbler.

Anyone have any requests for supper tonight?  If it's not
raining, we'll have supper tonight on the balcony. If it's
raining, we'll be on the patio, with the awning covering
us.

Morning all from the Racine County Fair........

Has been warm the last few days here, except for last night at 4pm, had a NASTY storm come through, blew down two trees in the midway, one landed on a tent, luckily nobody inside, the other caught the carnival power lines, was interesting.  I was on my way back to the fairgrounds after running home to get power cord and antenna for scanner, was doing 35 with four-ways on, couldn't see 500 ft in front of me.  Got about an inch of rain in 20 minutes, had 50-60mph winds, and a little hail to top it all off.

Going to be hotter than Satan's kitchen today and the rest of the weekend, I'm hauling ice for five hours this morning at the fair, should be a brisk sales day.  Got mobbed a few times yesterday when I came around, everyone filling up coolers.

Gatorade and squincher tanks are full, should be a big genset coming to the diner shortly to deal with the power issue (if it's still an issue), contractor should be right behind him to hook it all up (poured the pad and installed fuel tank and lines the other day, it's one of those multi-fuel jobs)

Stay cool everyone.
