Good Thursday morning, everyone!  We're supposed to be
a couple of degrees cooler today; supposed to have rain
tomorrow.  Will have to wait and see how much we get,
and if it's anything severe.  Hope we don't get anything
severe.  That will just make it all the more hotter after
the rain is over.Sad [:(]

Coffee is on, and juice, lemonade and iced tea is made.
Brewed tea here at home yesterday, and drank almost the
whole pitcher by 11 last night.

Breakfast this morning:  maple & brown sugar oatmeal
with toast and bacon.

Going to go to the library in about an hour to pick up
our latest reserved copy of Lilian Jackson Braun's
Cat Who book.  Have had it on reserve since March, and
they're just now getting to my name on the reserve list.
Been so long, I can't even remember the name of the book!!

What do you all want for lunch today?  Should be back in
time to do lunch for everyone.

Mutt and I don't have any feather pillows in the house.
They stuff up my head too much, and I have trouble breath-
ing.  So, we use the hypoallergenic pillows.  And they
need to be replaced with new ones.  They're so flat, you
can't fluff them up anymore.

Same here, both Joanie and I have king-size down-filled pillows.  The poor things are a good 15-20 years old, but still fluff up quite nicely.  One of these days we need to take them to a dry cleaner equipped for it to transfer the innards to new covers.

I think he sleeps in the truck out of safety and speed concerns…its harder to get in the truck, and the truck is faster than most cats!

I have a down filled pillow, great on the neck!

It will go flat also, but it is simple to fluff it up, chunk it in the dryer for about five minutes.

And it shapes itself to your head and neck just right.

Forget that Swedish foam stuff; give me soft and fluffy any ole time!

Sniff!  Obviously you all know a rain dance that I haven't mastered.  We were threatened for two days.  All we got was 4 drops on my arm hanging out of Millie watching a coal train go by.  It was down to 74 with a humidity of 76%.  Yes it was hot (107' at one time earlier) but it was like AZ heat - very dry.  Didn't mind it at all - but then - I am a houseplant and stay inside.

In the blink of an eye, we will be complaining about ice and sub-zero temps.  We need some new material here people.  Let's see - we can't do politics, religion, sex, diets, arguments, .....

I know!

Pillow Talk!  (Is this too close to one of the above no-nos?)

Got a new, cheap bed pillow.   I literally slept like I was on sleeping pills. Will have to buy a couple every few months, since after about a month - they look like Aunt Gert's hanky (flat).  I think a lot of our aches and pains are caused by sleeping on a bad pillow.  Anyone know anything about feather pillows beside the fact they are expensive?  Do they hold their shape or go flat like the rest?

Resident "feathers" may have some enlightenment - or not.  Maybe he just sleeps in his truck!

Off to check out the wildflowers in the garden.  Need some posies for the table.

Went to bed to a lightning show, woke up when the power blinked.  We're just out of a warning, and are getting a soaking.  Temp went down from 84 to 68.  It's back up to 74, so the storm must have moved on.  I suspect it's going to be wet and miserable out there.  Same ol' same ol'.

Well, that was much ado about nuttin'!  The storm more or less broke up as it passed over us, and is now gathering strength again as it moves southeast.

My trusty weather station registered a whole .04" of rain and a wind gust of (brace yourself) 15 mph.

There was enough wind some places to take some trees down - just got back from moving one out of the road.  The Amish who live near there will have cut it into firewood by tomorrow night...  On the way to the tree down, passed a spot with lots of leaves on the ground.  That's an indicator of either a good gust of wind or some hail.

Time to raid the cooler for a bedtime snack.  Freshly wash sheets await!

We had a brief but heavy thunderstrom here about 6pm.  Lightening struck the spire of St Andrews Catholic Church causing a fire and bringing out the troops.  Structure looks OK, but there is probably much smoke and water damage.  Should make the news at 10.

Temps now down to 84.  Humidity is so high a SCUBA would be handy.

Our watch is until midnight.  So far they've gone to the south of us and the north of us (some very close, all within hearing distance), but no drops here yet.  Clouds and lightning were pretty spectacular earlier this evening as I was out on the bike.

Yep Larry, was just watching the Weather Channel, and that line just north of the lake looks really nasty.  Nothing happening here though, it fizzled out and died.  Looks like we might have hope for some rain later tonight, however, as there's a strong storm in SE Nebraska/NW Missouri that appears to be headed this way.

I'll take two of those popsicles!

The ol' weather station here at the house only got up to about 91 today, but the dewpoint has been in the mid-seventies - even the varnish on my kitchen cupboards is sticky!!!

Then there's that line of thunderstorms bearing down on us out of Canada right now.  If it holds together, I might as well get my gear together - we'll be running "thunderstorm" calls tonight (wires and trees down, etc).

Yep - weather radio just blatted.  Svr Tsrtm Watch until 2 am...

Evening All,

The Orange Creamsicles are in the freezer. I made sure to bring lots of them for those of you who haven't  had the pleasure of meeting up with the cold front yet.

Catch you all in the morning!

Hey!  Careful switching that tank car of CFDMD!  Oops, too late--it just burped!

My Bug is currently showing 93 locally, down from 94 a little while ago.  On the way home I passed a time-and-temp thing that read 102.  I had the car today, but will bike to a dinner served in air-conditioned comfort.  SJ and J(ay)--you know the place!  You mountaineers and true Midwesterners (and cheeseheads) can push that front in our direction--how about some rain tonight?

The problem with coffee cups the size of water towers is that the escalation won't end.  You'll have to increase the size of the water proportionately to the increase in the number of 1.6-gallon flushes in the ladies' room.  Texas Ed doesn't come in often--I understand that the Rio Grande has been coffee-colored recently for a reason!

Afternoon everyone......

Still hot here, has been in the low to mid 90's the last few days, cold front is supposed to come through tonight and cool us off and dry us out.  We've been going through Gatorade at work like it's going out of style, had two breaks last night, and knocked off early (we got our work done early, also helped that we dropped about three units due to lack of room on the shop floor).

Never saw a coffee mug THAT big before, never knew they made a 500 gallon coffee mug.  Saw Chris moving it with the forklift, the back end looked a little light when he picked it up.Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]  If Mookie gets a bigger mug, we might have to get a crane in here to place it.  Don't worry about buckling the floor, it's been reinforced for just such an occasion.

Chris, you might want to check all the fluids in your car, you don't want water in any of the oils, it does interesting things to bearings and other metal parts.  It's kinda fun, though, splashing water on other cars.Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]  See everyone later, provided we don't get flooded out.

I'm stayin' for supper!  Big Smile [:D]

Chris and Sir Chix - we didn't get any rain out of that deal.  It got to Seward and vanished!

Jay - we traded heat for humidity.  I can't decide which is worse.  Even in air today, everything feels sticky.  So now we are sorta cool and very sticky.  Ack!

Joe - water tower hmmmm?  Has possibilities.  I could share with Houston Ed - I know he drinks waaaay more coffee than I can/could.

How about some Chicken Cordon Bleu Sandwiches? Breaded Chicken topped off with ham and swiss cheese and a nice honey mustard sauce. We could have a side of fries (for Matt of course) and some delightfully cold cole slaw. For dessert, I'll bring in some orange creamsicles.

Sound OK?

Well, it's just about lunchtime for folks in the ETZ, so will post the
lunch menu:

tuna salad sandwiches
tomato & cottage cheese on a bed of iceburg lettuce
grilled cheese (done in a skillet on the stove (range) top
garden salad
Caesar salad

Desserts today:  Ice Cream, ice cream, ice cream (because
I'm too hot to do any baking).

Anyone have any good suggestions for supper, or shall I make
it a "whatever you want, fix it" night?  I'm open to any and
all suggestions.

Mookie

That dumb "cold" front just doesn't have any legs.  It is hanging about 50-75 miles northeast of our location and the way it is going it might get down here next month.  Even though our house is reasonably good with the AC, the heat and humidity just saps what little ambition I have in the first place.

I will take a glass of ice tea and take a seat at the lurker's table in the back of the diner.  A good day to all.

Morning All,

Not too much to report here. Had some rather strong rains last night. I was kind of glad that I drive a boat. I almost wish I could have been out of my car to get some pictures of it going through some temporary flooding areas (where the storm sewers proved inadequate to handle such heavy rainfall). I think I could have got some great shots of the Cruiser looking like a Coast Guard Cutter cutting through some big sea swells!

Mook, I borrowed one of the forklifts from work this morning. Thought we could handle that coffee cup, but I'm not so sure now. I've never seen a coffee cup as big as a water tower! (Though I have seen a Ketchup Bottle in that size range). You better not let the Chicken see this. I'm sure he'd want one to replace his 55 gallon drum of gatorade! I'm not sure the DD&CS can handle two such beverage vessels!

Jim, Duchess remains in my prayers. Hopefully you, she and the vets can get things turned around soon.

Well....I suppose...Whistling [:-^]Hi Ho, Hi Ho, It's Off to Work I GoWhistling [:-^]...

Good morning, everyone!  At least, I think it's morning.
Couldn't go to sleep until about 1, 1:30 because it was
too hot in the house, and couldn't go to sleep.

Mookie, I've brought in the largest coffee pot I can find.
Hope it's big enough for you!!

Joe, I believe this new coffee pot is almost as large as
the water tower!!

Coffee is on and ready to drink.  Juice, iced tea and
lemonade are also ready, and in the fridge.

Breakfast this morning:  cantaloupe, watermelon, red
seedless grapes, oatmeal and toast.

Going to go find a sprinkler, and stand under it to
cool off.
