Well, it's Monday. How can I tell? It's nice and sunny outside - hardly a cloud in the sky. As opposed to the weekend... I can't tell you how enjoyable it is to flag a crossing during a light, misty drizzle... Then again, I was playing on the railroad... Those poor folks we picked up after their trip down the river - they didn't get wet paddling down, they got wet in the downpour that was occuring just as we arrived at the canoe platform to pick them up...
Bearclaw and an orange-and-spice tea, please.
We did have a great weekend - over 200 riders both days. Got to meet the current owner of one of the former stations (I usually mention how nice it looks when I'm narrating - they were impressed...) as well as a woman who used to ride the train on the line to a big summer camp. She even warranted an interview, as that information will be going into the narrative resource book.
I was mildly surprised, however, to learn that our Wednesday "robbery" trains will draw 200+ per train. Whodathunk!?

Morning All,
Dropped my guest off yesterday at DIA, so once again, I should have a little free time to visit the forum and contribute here and there (not that my posts are anything but bandwidth eating banter...but I digress).
Can't stay too long in the DD&CS to read the previous posts at the moment, so I hope you are all well. I'll be sure to do some catching up on lunch and this evening.
I hope you all have a great week, and I'll talk to you later!
TTFN!

Morning all! I'll have some OJ and a bowl of Shredded Wheat w/skim milk, then it's off to the "to-do (been put off way too long!) list". I can't believe that college starts back up again in about two weeks! All things considered I only have two semesters to go until I hit the wall smack under the light at the end of the tunnel! LOL! It will be nice to be done.
Yes I know who Superman and The Lone Ranger are/were. I'm not that naive, just a smart-aleck!

Hmmm...I'm trying to update my avatar, and I looked at my personal information on the site. According to this, I last visited the Forum tomorrow!
If that keeps happening, I guess I'll be stuck for life, and live a long time!

Doesn't help, Larry--still says I last visited here on August 22.
Too bad my stock report doesn't do this, too...

Interesting - I just clicked on my name and it says last time I visited was over a month ago....
On the UP, a Z train is the hottest of the hot--a "premium intermodal" train. The train carries an alphanumeric designation like ZLACS, or several other combinations of letters (the other letters indicate origin and destination--in this example, the train runs from Los Angeles to the Canal Street intermodal facility in Chicago).
BNSF also uses Z for its hottest intermodal freights, but I think it uses three-letter origins and destinations, and maybe a few other modifiers besides.
So, besides the cat (whom everybody loves), what other goofy people (or animals) floated your boat?
We had pizza last night in a fairly new local establishment--I found that the trains are visible from certain tables (one of which I gladly claimed). We shared the place with a group of Red Hat ladies, who fit the stereotype, except for one, who was too young--reminded me of my favorite sister-in-law (who's also too young, but definitely has the attitude!).
Speaking of chicken - broasted, toasted and fried - where is Mudchicken? He flew out of town and no one has seen him since!
NT - if you want a good name - you should find out where Zardoz got his name. Fascinating story! You may have to e-mail him to get him to tell you the story.

Well whats going on here in the diner?? It doesn't look like too much. I was hopeing to see some real action in here, because I am bored sitting here at work, with basiclly nothing to do. Watch as soon as I say something like that the phones will start ringing off the hook. lol
Shippers pay a premium to put their trailers or containers on a Z train because of what are supposed to be faster schedules.
I have my own favorites, former favorites, and least favorite people here--for various reasons--but we won't go into that. Your choices, in my opinion, are great, as long as you include the kitten, too!
Speaking of favorites, look who just came in!
I wanted to delete this post, but couldn't So I'll just have to say something else instead.
Something else instead.
Carl,
If you've got this whole time travel thing down, can you do me a favor and let me know who to pick in my Fantasy Football draft next week? That could be really handy!
So after I dropped my friend at the airport yesterday, I came home, and set about cleaning the house up a bit. As I was doing that, I noticed a nice Supercell building up a little east of town. A cousin of mine came over, and I asked him if he had heard anything about a bad storm out east. He hadn't, and so I just passed it off as another HP (high precipitation) monsoon driven thing that would drop several inches of rain, and maybe even some hail, but not much else.
Lo and behold, about 20 minutes later there's a tornado warning issued for Bennett, and Central Adams county. Doh! Had I trusted my instincts, I'd have been out chasing the storm and encountered a really photogenic land-spout. And since there were no injuries or property damage, I would've been free to feel elated about catching the thing. Sigh.......one of these days I'll actually find and photograph one.
Of course, I have the same luck as Tree and Zardoz. It's a rare occasion when I can find trains, good weather and free time anymore. Oh well...I guess if it were easy, it wouldn't be as much fun, right?

Thought I picked up that the Mudchicken was in the field on the job showing people how to get it done right. Possibly the temporary resting spot is stuck in the 20th Century with dial up only or worse is charging an outrageous fee for access to a high speed connection.
The access fee at the Sheraton on the North side of Indy was $12.00 a day. I'd rather get it free for the price of a cup of fancy coffee.

That's always the first thing! And there is most often a work station off the lobby and other public places to use free, but they have a dress code.
NightrainAFD1987 wrote:Premium Intermodal trains? ...what are those? LOL yeah I feel rather dumb.
The company that uses the "hot" intermodal trains the most is United Parcel Service--these trains are usually trailers mounted on spline cars with all the latest in "hot" power such as GE Dash 9-44CW units (usually 3-4 locomotives on the point). These trains run with near-passenger train priority.
cw will take some of #1 for supper at work tonight.yes ups trains are a top priority.trainmaster in defiance has said you really dont want to be responsible for making one of those late.
