Hank, welcome!  Some of us just stop in for a diversion, and to make conversation with more of the regulars.

I've "adopted" Mookie as my sister, hence some references to "BC"--"Brother Carl".  I understand her forwards and backwards, and she understands me better than nearly everyone else.  I also adopted another regular once as...well, never mind--that got me into a bit of trouble.

I don't eat much here, but drink plenty of CFDMD, and offer answers, innuendos, insinuations, and bad puns in exchange.  Watch for me on the more intelligent threads (see what I mean?).

It was sticky around Chicago today--if we get rain, it will be welcomed.  SJ (AKA Mookie) has promised to send us some of her weather, and I understand she may be getting hit hard tonight.  I would like it if it rained tonight, and cleared out for me to bike to work in the morning.

Today was a "flower day" here.  Every day we don't move the car we put a flower sticker on the calendar, suggesting that we helped the environment a little.  Pat got to the store and delivered a finished quilt on foot, and I biked to work and later to the post office.  Brian...10101010101--can you believe it?

Hey, now there's a notable milestone!  0x555.  My odometer is still stuck where it was a month ago.  It doesn't help any that Joanie has been working in the same building as me alot lately, so we ride together (so that I can drop her at the door).Big Smile [:D]

We had a nice rain this morning, nearly half an inch.  Sounds like maybe more coming tonight.

Brian, my apologies to you for not calling you on MPRCB tonight--when I thought of it, the train had already passed Mechanicsburg a few minutes prior.  Had the two Olympic SD70Ms spliced by UP 3300, the United Way unit.

Don't worry about it, Carl.  I'm "supposed" to be working on projects around the house anyway in preparation for Labor Day weekend.  Joanie would take a dim view to me running off to the SW side of town at this point.  I've got my avatar shot- I'm good until my trip to CA.

Well--its my hope and desire to spread some my intelligence here as well as joy to one another. Whatever that means and pans out--but sure will try my best possible. Net chat is new to me and may stumble some but want to be making friends and get to know others training knowledge as well. Even tho I been an train enthused all my life--there is plenty to learn yet and always will be. But nothing beats the rail hobby!!! It sticks in you forever.  Im glad Im a RAILFAN!!!

Was in the mid 90s here today and sticky.but cooling down for rest weekend, Besides of having my virtual peppers--having sweet and sour tonite. Thank god for a/c would die in this heat. ok gang have a great evening and may be around later in the evening.  Enjoy the nite all.

Mmphf....<~^ - new landlord in trouble already.  Stained new kitchen cupboards for next door, then only cracked a couple of windows and left that side shut up with no ventilation.  We got home and it smelled like someone doused our side with lighter fluid.  Our central AC pulls the smell from that side to our side and we both had headaches by bedtime.  Called and left message, but no return call.

Put Mentholatum under pink nose (Driver) and mine and it helped.  Not a happy unit this morning.

But....more rain about 3 am this morning.  At least at our house.  I am so loving this rain!  And it washes all the birds and squirrels we entertain in the backyard.  Hope someone doesn't decide to ban them!

Tree - anything you can discuss that is keeping you busy?  Go fast and maybe you will have time left over to "train".

I am going to open the fridge for Joe.  Since he is in charge of morning drinks - I need to help out once in awhile.  Oooo - cool!

Then at lunch - let's see.  I will help CW and make party favors for the table..  Oh my mind runs rampant!

Good Thursday morning, everyone!  Sorry about getting in here so late this morning.
Was busy doing some household chores earlier, and I'm just getting in here.

Mookie, thanks for getting the drinks ready for this morning!  Haven't seen Joe in
here, yet.  Please email me on plans for the party favors!!  And we'll plan the lunch
menu, while we're at it, o.k.?

Breakfast this morning:  oatmeal, toast, bacon, and scrambled eggs.

Tip Top of the Morning to You All,

Not a whole lot to report here. Found a couple possible new shots not too far from my house last night. I think they'll need some very specific sky conditions as they'll involve some back-lighting. I could've tried them out on the beer run last night (he actually had a nice set of pumpkins for once...for the past week, it's been a set of H1 SD40-2's, but one was a lease unit that had the "BNSF" on the side spray painted over in a really ugly sort of way). I was helping some friends move some stuff, though, so I didn't have time to grab the shot. Maybe Mother Nature will provide us with the right conditions again tonight, as it looks like I'll have a free evening for a change.

Well, I must be on my way. I hope you all have a great day!

TTFN!

Morning all!  CW I'll take a plate full with the works, I'm pretty hungry.

Got my new camera.  An Olympus D-540 ZOOM 3.2 MP.  We'll see what happens now that I have a working camera.  Maybe some good pictures of the power on the CN mainline.

Nothing new here in Omaha. Dewpoints yesterday evening hit 81 degrees. At one point the temperature was 89 degrees, but the heat index was 106 degrees!

A few sprinkles and a couple of rumbles overnight and that was all for the rain. Another chance this afternoon.

I'll take some toast, bacon and some lemonade, please.

Have a good day!

Hi Willy:  It was the same here yesterday.  But we did get a little water overnight, which was welcome!

You people mention lemonade and I go Confused [%-)]. (no pucker in the smilies!)  That is a drink I have never learned to like!  Manage to drink tea as an adult, but not lemonade....

  On today's lunch menu:

1. meat loaf w/"smashed" taters & gravy, and green beans;
2. sandwiches:  clubs, tuna, pb &j, and we've got the
following salads:  Cobb, veggie, garden, Caesar, taco,
3. grilled chicken.  Have plenty of a variety of tater
chips, also.

Don't worry about the lemonade, Mookie.  I keep it on hand
for those of us who actually like lemonade.  That's why I
also made two gallons of iced tea each day, for the ones
who don't like lemonade.  Also have plenty of soft drinks
and gatorade-like drinks on hand, especially the lemon-lime
drinks.

Mornin' all......

Just saw a wet cat and chicken go by, will sanitize the gatorade containers ASAP.

Ok, now that that's done, welcome denverhank, hope you enjoy it in here, I'm the crazy guy from Madison, WI (AKA the Mad City).  Has been fairly nice here, temps around 80 and low humidity, with the exception of last night and this morning, but supposed to dry out for the weekend.

Work has been interesting, for lack of a better term.  We've been getting done at about 1am all this week, due to dropping units to not get too far ahead of the lines.  We need more people to work, have been having people quit like crazy (Apparently, nobody likes working in the heat at a good clip!).  Also found out yesterday I will be moving within our department, instead of putting tires together, I will get to install them on the suspensions and do finish work on them.  A little less taxing, and I get to use the big electric torque wrench.

I'll be over in a corner booth for a while, will have a glass of orange juice (no pulp, please), as I'm battling a cold.

Willy, my "Dew point" is anywhere from subzero to over 100.  I'll have a glass now, I think!

(Seriously, that's some real humidity.  We had similar stuff last night and today.  Fooled me into thinking it was raining this morning, and I brought the bike home again and took the car to work.  I'm glad I did, because it rained for real on the way home!)

Well, yeehaw, glad we were battened down tight! About one
hour ago:  wind started blowing really good, and and the
rain started pouring.  Mutt said he wished he had the rain
gauge out to measure the rain, but doubts it would have
measured it:  since it was all coming in sideways!!
Haven't really heard what the wind gusts were, but looks
like it was in the neighborhood of 45-50 mph.

When it all started, our outside temp was 92.5, and within
about 5 minutes, had dropped 20 degrees to 72.5.  It's
staying pretty much right there (at least for the time
being.)

Got plenty of meat loaf, smashed taters, etc. left from
lunch for supper tonight.  Guess I'll have to grill some
more chicken, cause that is all gone!!  So, let me know
if anyone wants grilled chicken for supper.

The NWS radio has just let us know that it looks like
round 2 will be starting shortly.

I'm the glad the rain cooled things down in your neck of the woods.

Earlier this morning I said that not much had happened in the weather department last night, but it looks like I was wrong. Our National Weather Service office sent out a survey team to take a look at some storm damage that occurred in the town of Greenwood, Nebraska which is right in between Lincoln and Omaha.

They found that a microburst had occurred. The damage covered a very small area (thus 'micro'burst rather than downburst), but winds were most likely in excess of 100 mph! It almost completely destroyed a small race track located near Greenwood. Ticket booths were destroyed, the bleachers were mangled and the concrete crash fence was uprooted. And worst of all, a severe thunderstorm warning was never issued for that county when the event was happening.

Anyway, just thought I'd pass that along. Good thing it didn't hit Lincoln or a certain cat may have had quite a rough ride! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Just to add a bit to CW's previous post, that storm started right around 3:30,now
at 5:30,the temp is back up to about 80 degrees and round two is approaching
rather quickly. Not sure yet if there's a Lot of damage in the area, mainly the "normal"
tress, limbs, power lines down from the wind;have NOT heard anything that suggests
otherwise. A slight bit of humor here, one of the "weatherguessers" said that the
wind was blowing so hard, that there were "White Caps" on the Ohio River. One of
the "Newscasters" said with the amount of rain and the way the wind was blowing,
there were "White Caps" on the streets also.
As far as rainfall in that approx. hours worth of time, around 1.5-2.5 inches, with
several places recording Hail about 3/4" to an 1" in size.(didn't see that here, thankfully)

Just took a look at the weather radar for the Midwest and I see the remnants of the storm that hit Looville well to the south.  My forecast says scattered T-showers tonite, but I think they are wrong.  Breeze out of the northeast is keeping everything to the west and south.

Forecast low of 56degrees tomorrow night.  Will send some of the cool air down to Kentucky for CW.  I know it has been way to hot in the kitchen.

We had a little rain this afternoon, but it didn't amount to much - just 2/100's here at the house.  It certainly didn't dampen my enthusiasm for a lecture I attended tonight.  Professor Michael Kudish, self-made expert on railroads in the Adirondack Mountains, as well as publisher of several definitive works on the subject, spoke in a small town just a little ways south of me.  The topic was also the subject matter of his latest book - the RRs of the western Adirondacks.

His first book was about 160 pages.  The update was 500, and version 3 would have been around 700, had he not broken it down into 3 separate books.  Google his name if you are interested in the books.  I got a copy tonight, and got it autographed.

I was also mildly surprised when two of my fellow volunteers from the Adirondack Scenic showed up, one all the way from Albany.  She has a drive ahead of her (3+ hours) to get home, and she has to work tomorrow.

And Ms Mook wonders if I have any free time...

I'll be "workin' on the railroad" Saturday, and sellin' chicken on Sunday.

Good thing I have Monday off - have work to do on the bathroom...

Jay,appreciate you all sending some of the cooler weather this way,but could/would you tell
whomever's in charge to send it just a little less forcefully?!Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] The first part of that storm,
the wind and rain was coming from the north, then after it slacked up a bit,the remainder came
in from the northwest.......a bit unusual for here,as most of what we get comes from the west-
southwest.  This was not any worse than we've ever had,but the full force of this one lasted
a little over an hour, instead of the usual 10-15-20 minutes.

They are telling us that today will be a bit cooler,but...we could still have a bit more of the same.Dead [xx(]
CW did say if it does stay a bit cooler, she might get some more baking done.Smile [:)]
